Since the topic is " what game requires the most Technical Ability???" and not , which game is the most technical (which is what it has been so far, you guys might wanna rule out guilty gear and marvel.
Would i be wrong in saying that you need more technical ability to play Super Turbo at high level than Marvel or GG at high level even though the game itself is less technical?
This is not a jab at Marvel or GG, just some food for thought, to add something different into the mix.
But seriously, wasn’t Jeff Scheffer or whatever talking about how he could srk a Blanka ball on reaction at match start, and how Tomo was better than he was? The OG Street Fighter 2 crew had ridiculous execution.
You totally misread what i said. Yes its not very technical, but you still got to have a high technical ability to play o.sagat properly. If your just spamming tiger shots at a higher level, you’ll soon get exposed and killed.
Fly/Unfly
Infinites
Guard Break
Assists
Tigerknee
Guard Cancel
Counters
Snapout
Super xx Special
DHC
THC
Flying Screen
Jump/S. Jump priorities
Throwing
Tech roll
Projectile continuation with super activation
5-way option on attacking a character (front hi/lo, back hi/lo, throw)
The beautiful thing about Marvel is how all of these things are mixed together. Like seeing Duc guard cancel HSF to tigernee AHVB. Or seeing mags GC HSF to HG xx Proton Cannon. Or seeing Mike Z counter HSF to Juggy Headcrush. 3 different ways to escape HSF…Using Fly/Unfly to guard break…Throwing into Assist into infinite…Tigernee grenade xx AHVB…Snapout to assist kill…Snapout to Guard break…Assist hitting in non-rollable FS mode…60% block damage/100% assist kill from a THC. Throw in the fact there are 56 characters with 3 different assists…For anyone doing the math, that’s 4,741,632 possible teams. Granted, team Gief isn’t going to win against team Spiral, but it isn’t about who wins, it’s about what’s possible.
It’s just filled with so much tiny stuff as well…Like how certain things connect by doing a special or DHC. Blackheart’s j.s, j.forward xx judgement day does not connect, but DHC after the first demon comes out and it does connect. Throwing an assist in the way of shockwave so that Cable can AHVB. Technically speaking, MvC2 is such a beautiful game. Not taking away anything from GG, but assists just add so much to MvC2.
I dunno, tbh - I’ve seen a lot of hi-lvl ST and GG action and more often than not, the matches are pretty even right to the end.
In ST you need good knowledge of all the characters ups and downs, where your comfort zone is, your best AA, etc…and it’s different for pretty much everybody. You don’t have much in the way of options, so you end up taking more risks - have to be 100% commited…no time for second guesses. It only gets harder the more you get into it because the match-ups end up being plain gay.
In GG it’s almost the same only you have the broad system to contend with too. You have a lot of freedom of movement, a nice array of offensive and defensive options and no characters have similar gameplay patterns so every fight has to be learned thoroughly - your reactions and execution also need to be in tip-top shape at a hi-lvl too. The match-ups in this game are different in this game though…I feel that the matches are harder in the early stages of playing and once you’re playing at a hi-lvl with an equally skilled opponent the matches arent too bad and it comes down to the player. That’s just how I feel about the match-up side of things.
ST good game to play alongside GG. Both are completely different in terms of playstyles but are strikingly similar when it comes to the level of tactics, reactions and execution. I can’t really rate one game over the other =/ playing both games can keep you sharp.
Why do Melee players say this kind of crap?
Seriously, this can be said about any game!
If people had perfect execution:
MvC2 would be a “whoever gets hit first, loses” and thats that.
3S would have more low tier characters up in top tournaments (ever seen those random Q and Elena combo vids with those humanly impossible too do combos. There fuckin’ powerful, ill give you that much)
Guilty Gear, you would be seeing alot of “glitch-type” mix-ups.
KoF 11… do I need to say anything? This game is all about execution.
GG for sure. There are more Defesive and ofesive sub systems then any other game.
Every Character has diffent sizes and weights. One combo will work for one and not the other. Also ther is parrying, autoguards, just defencing, great high low, many cross ups, teching and not teching game play, resets, air resets, counter hits, unblockables, a real backdash game play, DA attacks, combo breakers to stop the flow of action unlike MVC2, baiting combo breakers, many many ways to use meter other then poping off a super or making a move hit more times, reverals, jump cancles, jump instals,no universal lanchers or dial up combos and much more. RC and FRCs are more then just for more damage. they are to fix mistake that might would be counter attacked, or to add to mix up game play.
and one other key thing that make is sick is the hit boxes of some anamation in the game, I.E bakens foot hops of the ground after she stops running, and and some low attacks will not hit her. With Anji I can do a 5p and hit an crounching Slayer but if his head is bobbing a bit on another frame Iwill miss him. And in Gg every character is unique, well aside from Sol and Ky, I.E bridget and Eddie with there control of pets or tools, Anji counters as he attacks but Baiken counters as she blocks. and so on.
items put more luck into a game, you could very well just land right next to a pokeball or a bobomb, and control of space becomes wonky. for example you may want to push your opponent torwards and edge but then that denies you easy access to an item that just randomly drops, or simply makes it easier for your opponent to grab an item.
sure, lots of competitive games play out on luck, but if you had the option of reducing the severity of luck when money is on the line, would you?
That is what makes the game fun so called “tournament” smash has to be the most boring shit ever. They took what was meant as a party game(yes nintendo released it as a party game) and butchered it into a very boring and pointless “fighting games”.
MVC2, where do i begin? So many ways to play, so many different dynamics within, almost limitless team-up options, etc. Gotta be playing for YEARS to learn and get the hang of it all.
And 3rd strike? The whole parrying system. Like the chun-li vs ken parry fight, how the hell…
Marvels cast is more of a mix and match type character selection. each duo or trio will add layers and while taking some away that other characters provide.
guilty gears only knock against it, it’s all set in stone, your moveset is locked in place(until the next update)
