play brawl or quit.
Thing is…there’s an SD card trick that allows you to play B+ without hacking your Wii, I believe.
Anyway, B+ isn’t intended to be Melee 2.0. It’s meant to take Brawl and revise it to improve the game itself in terms of balance and mechanics.
This is misleading. Somewhat true but misleading.
Giza seriously seems to be the only person here that knows what he is talking about. I agree with everything he says.
I read this whole thread and found all of the opinions quite interesting…
Melee: Melee is to smash what PS2 is to main stream gaming, if it wasn’t for Melee smash would still be this very unknown fighting game that EVERYONE overlooked – So far it still is widely played, but due to the large amount of tech skill needed in high level play…many do not play it and prefer Brawl (in a competitive standpoint) – This game is very skill oriented than all three of the games (I’m mentioning) and so far the most balanced of the three(which is a long shot, since the top and high tiers are the ones winning tourneys still, along with minor mid tier characters :D)
Original Brawl: This game…was built purely for a party, the maker (Sakurai) said himself this game was not built for competitive play and therefore made it the way it is – hopefully to drain the interest of all the old lovers of the competitive standpoint of the game [pre-release] (which for the most part it did) I enjoy this game with buddies but no longer as a competitive game – Since this release smash has lost some respect as a fighting game in the eyes of fighting game scenes across the country (sadface)
Brawl+: This is new and still unfinished, so to determine the outcome of this game is difficult BECAUSE it is in working progress. I enjoy this game to a good extend has noticed this is (as of now) a very well balanced game…you can play your favorite character and actually place well or even win, without the worry of losing due to pure character strength (I.E. a MK who only knows what to do out of a short-hopped tornado/Snakes ridiculous tilts that require only minor spacing, which anyone can space well with just a round or two)
A good example of a balanced game would be BlazBlue, right now one of the best BB players (Mike Z) plays the bottom most character [last I checked] Iron Tager and yet can still go and place well and flat out win with his favorite character, not because he’s THE character to win with – in Brawl the best two in the nation is M2K(MK) and Ally(Snake) both their mains being the top two characters in the game – M2K plays MK because even he admits that MK is bar none the best character in the game with very minor weaknesses and extremely high priority in a very [over]useful move – It took a lot of work to get EVO to put smash on the line up the “right” way with no items and by our competitive rules.
IMO – Brawl+ will never replace a company made smash, but I do hope it gets a little more light shined on it then it has all ready and at least becomes something that will put smash a step closer to the prime days of Melee where it was about the competition, fun, and friendships…and more less about the money involved – All in all the games balance is coming along very well
As for me, I used to be a Meleeist that gave any other smash game that wasn’t Melee no chance and now I know everyone and everything deserves a chance, even a modded game – Just a little FYI, Brawl+ is not that hard to get…a couple bucks for an SD Card and SD Card Reader…once you get that your ready to roll!!!
This whole post is just opinion and not meant to anger or offend anyone – I’m just putting it out there IMO
Smash: the only fighting game in existence where fans have actually hacked the game’s code just to make it more ‘balanced’ I now expect people to start hacking SFIV Sagat, 3s Chunli and Gen’ei Jin to make them more balanced, as well(no disrespect meant)
Anyone who’s played Melee for a while and then played Brawl+ for at least a month will tell you that Brawl+ is NOT a Melee 2.0.
It’s easier to compare Brawl/64 with B+ than Melee with B+.
Also, now it’s me and giza that know a thing or two about B+, me more than him.
BBrawl doesn’t even have a shot. It really only changed one character and the rest of the changes are laughable at best. HF back in the 90’s did a better job of rebalancing the cast than BBrawl.
If Smash had a dev studio that cared about it’s competitive community we wouldn’t have to go to such lengths.
Like 98% of Brawl+ haters just don’t like it because it’s a mod rather than based on how it plays.
Look, Brawl is bull shit and Brawl+ is fun.
This is the kind of talk that gets us in trouble with random Brawlites.
Brawl is not shit.
Its COMPETITIVE aspect is.
Brawl+ was made to improve on THAT competitive aspect, but still keep the fun of Brawl. Nothing in Brawl+ was changed except physics, hitstun, hitlag, individual character speedups/slowdowns/damage/knockback changes, some stages were slowed or frozen, ledge lag, death boundaries, dead frames, and the Character select. (Pff, I under analyzed that, but it’s a nice compilation) There are also some things like the Infinite Replay code and No limit replays.
Hell, I don’t like Melee. I just don’t. I hate Brawl even more. But Brawl+ got me hooked fast.
Brawl+ doesn’t ruin Brawl in any way. And if you think it does, it doesn’t.
Brawl+ isn’t Mugen, it isn’t freeballing, and it isn’t Melee 2.0. If you want to really know what Brawl+ is about, don’t make comments such as “if they want a game like Melee go play Melee.” or “Brawl+ is just a melee wannabe.” before you even LOOK at the game. Much less TOUCH it.
Problem with the community is people aren’t scared to move on to a new GAME, which could possibly suck worse than the old one, but are scared to move on to something that could’ve been made better/worse by the COMMUNITY that PLAYS the game. If it isn’t an official game, they won’t play it. Their expectations could be high. They could be fickle. Or they might not even like it anyway. But then another thing; it’s casted away before it’s tried.
Though there are plenty of people that would love to take in something the community tried to make of the official game that was released, and enjoy it. Tournaments, smashfests, events like Beyond the Limit 2! and Long Live Hitstun!, both MAIN Brawl+ events.
I advise you try, or even look at what Brawl+ has to offer before you turn it away.
And no, Brawl+ only requires you to put a few files on your SD card. Nothing more, nothing less. =/ it takes less than 5 minutes to install. And there’s no INSTALLATION to begin with.
Brawl+ RC1 is shit. That is all.
…what they do?
Look, anything can be competitive. Sometimes, competitive games come out of easy game. Starcraft is an easy RTS, yet is is played competitively more then any other RTS. You can have competitive Mario Party if you had enough people get together for tournaments.
What I hate is the fact that people think it needs to be changed because a few characters dominate. Marvel vs Capcom has 56 characters and about 8 are viable. Did they ever try to hack the game back? A lot of fighting games have been unbalanced. So now Brawl is some special case?
I agree with you totally. Yeah, Brawl+ makes it more competitive and sensible, but won’t replace the main game. Seems cool, but I just don’t have a overwhelming desire to really play it as the people I play with locally just play the standard game, its a work in progress, and isn’t technically “official”.
All the banter about Brawl vs. Melee is true. I was much more deadly in Melee. I could go immortal 2 on 1 in melee against some average players. Now it’s a little more of a chore  My brother, who has mastered the Knee of Justice was pissed at some of the nerfing done. Since the Wii is a more party oriented console, I can see why the changes were made and I can deal with them. Like you said SmashChu, why is it needed to hack a game to make it feel better when a lot of other fighters have a very similar issue?
I can’t take Brawl+ seriously cause it’s a mod. It can be anything a hacker could want it to be. Not everyone’s modified Brawl plays or even looks the same. Some versions could have Sonic having both speed and power (the latter being the one thing every fan wanted for him) making him a dominant and rather broken character, which is not a problem for Sonic mainers. I’ve even seen versions of Brawl with characters having new and/or additional properties on moves, such as electricity or even freezing ability. Characters not meant to hit hard, hit harder; Characters not meant to move fast, move faster. Players are making changes they see fit to the game, and for some, for no other reason other then making their favorite character(s) better.
You can call it Brawl+, but I prefer to think of it as Super Smash Brother Brawl: Rainbow Edition
i think brawl+ is so much fun when played with friends.
They didn’t focus enough on testing and ended up making a load of bad changes. Ness was pretty much straight broken in it. Luckily the brawl+ team went through major changes because of all of the negligence made by now former members. A new set is up now, and its far superior.
Brawl+ was more about making a unique game. If you go a beef with someone then it seems to be with Balanced Brawl.
I don’t think it ever was trying to replace brawl. The best most of the backroom had been hoping for was being able to make it be a popular thing to have side tournaments for during tournaments for either melee or brawl. So far it is actually accomplishing this in certain parts of the USA.
Its almost like how most people can’t agree on ruleset for the normal game, right? Am I the only person who remembers the events leading up to Evo 2008?
Brawl+ stays pretty strict with what the rules are in the set when they make it out of nightlies. You are referring to people using Project Smashattack stuff and equating it to a version of brawl+. This is not a fair comparison. Brawl+ keeps a well defined set. If you change a .pac files yourself then you are not playing an official version of brawl+. You can change the .pac files without having the brawl+ stuff running. It is certainly not a part of brawl+.
You want RC1 or Brawl-. Brawl+ near gold is a well thought out modification with a lot of testing done on it.
Nope. Everyone agreed on the rule set save for some who got so set in their ways.
You missed the point.
Disregard this
Essentially the whole smash community disagreed with the EVO2008 items ruleset, not just “some” as you claim.
