We Shall Never Surrender - The Devil May Cry 4 Thread - Come on, babes. Let's rock!

Damn. I want a DMC4 avatar now…

Not in fixed cam views though.

I’ll hold the rest of my comments for when I beat the game and the rest of the world gets their hands on it… but yeah, total DMC noob here.

Son of Sparda. I’m only on Mission 4, but so far it’s not that much harder. I’ve noticed them plunking a few more enemies down in the levels though.

Yeah, there were a couple of times that I was annoyed with it too.

You usually lock on to the enemy closest to you. If you don’t like the one the game selected, you can change the lock-on by pushing down on L3.

If you don’t like what you’ve bought so far, you can Cancel All and get your spent Proud Souls back.

I personally don’t have Max-Act yet. I’ve been buying a bunch of stuff before it.

Incidentally, I do wish the game had given us the option to cancel individual skills. Like, I can think of one skill right now that I don’t use much and would gladly cancel, but to do so now I’d have to cancel everything and re-buy all the stuff I do want.

Sadly, I don’t think so. Even if it is better than DMC3, I don’t think its as good as it could have been. I know that 20 missions is the DMC standard, but given the set-up of this game they really should have pushed it to 25-30. You do have to realize that ultimately, this is Nero’s game, and Dante just kind of appears as Capcom says “We know you like him, so here he is.”

Don’t get me wrong though, I do enjoy the game. There’s a lot to like about it. Nero is fun to play as. And some of his buster throws are just sick, especially against bosses. “I’m sick of hearing your bullshit!” THUD! And Dante’s cutscenes are way too good.

Also, if Mission 19 had been in DMC3…it would have surpassed Battletoads as the most insanely difficult thing EVER. When I realized what I had to do I was like “Capcom! WHAT. THE. FUCK!” But I ended up getting through it without dying, and there were only two times where things were kinda hairy.

That might change on Nero Must Die mode though.

Oh? Well I usually cut the camera a little slack anyway as long as it isnt absurd. The cam in DMC never really gave me that “life or death” precision thing.

Did NG Sigma retain the camera fix of the hurricane packs on the original Xbox? People praise that game to the heavens but that camera was just DREADFUL, I ran into the arms of so many surprise attacks on the original I could have sworn the genre was Action/Survival Horror.

run around corner
gets hit in the face with incineration dart

run down hallway
ambushed by white ninjas

I suppose it works for. . ninja gaiden. However I wish I was doing a little more ambushing as opposed to getting ambushed.

Ive spent so much time perfecting IR but I cant rebound indefinitely to save my life. Can someone give me just a bare bones common sense method?

I keep fucking up once i HR > AR TT > jump cancel > demon arm > AR TT . .I cant make it past that

EDIT:::AZRAEL - When you say DMC4 isnt better than DMC3 are you taking in consideration what DMC is in comparison to other games in its genre? In comparison to 3 i dunno . .the backtracking really ruined the experience for me. The end part of the game just started to feel a bit rushed and unplanned. RANDOM. That stage 19 boss. . what??? DMC is still the cream of the crop as far as these hack n slash adventure games go. Story is cool and whatnot but never a selling point in the game to me. The pure action and style are what I love so much and does 4 not seem to give that more so than any other game in the series?

I dunno. Ill save myself until after I get it this week. You have it and i dont so you have more say.

Well, take into account that until recently, I hadn’t been playing very many video games at all. I’d sort of slipped into video game retirement, but getting my PS3 pulled me back into the fold. Anyway, I’d missed out on the entire DMC series; I picked up DMC1 a few months ago, played it for a little while, then kind of forgot about it. Then I saw the TGS DMC4 trailer, which inspired me to go back, finish 1, and then buy and complete DMC3. I actually have not played GOW/NG, so this is coming from a DMC fan who just recently got into the series.

If you didn’t like the backtracking in DMC3…well. As I said before, a little past halfway in the game, Nero bows out and you switch to Dante. I don’t want to give away too many story details, but basically, Nero starts off at The Opera House and works his way through a couple of locations. Then you switch to Dante, who essentially wants to go back to The Opera House. To do so, he goes back in reverse through all the locations Nero went through, which includes the boss fights. Granted, Dante plays differently, and the way he approaches the levels is somewhat different. The bosses though don’t learn any new tricks, as far as I can tell. As a result, Dante’s portion of the game feels short and rushed.

The story is good, I’m just a little peeved that the ONE thing EVERYBODY wanted to know doesn’t really get addressed. I can only guess they’re saving it for DMC5: Nero’s Awakening or something.

Action wise…I really came to love the mid-combo weapon-switching aspect of DMC3. Nero doesn’t switch weapons, so in a sense it feels a little disappointing. That’s not to say Nero doesn’t have his own bag of tricks. As I’ve been saying, Nero can just live in the air, which is actually really cool. I was playing Bloody Palace, and I was completely surrounded by enemies so I did the following -

IR Slash, IR Slash, High Roller, (IR Slash, IR Slash, Roulette, Snatch, Buster Throw (current enemy dies), Snatch (new enemy), IR Slash, IR Slash, Roulette, Air Hike, IR Slash, IR Slash, IR EX Split), EX Streak.

Everything in the ( ) happens in mid-air. I was thinking about this today when I realized - OMG, that’s fucking awesome.

With Dante, I don’t feel that his weapons flow as nicely as they did in DMC3, compared to Cerberus and A&R. But I will admit that I haven’t quite gotten the hang of Lucifer yet, as well as style-switching. Now that I know how to bring out Boomerang with Pandora’s Box, I need to go back and play as Dante some more.

DMC4 Collector’s Edition in a few days woot woot! I got a white Japanese PS3Dualshock 3 joystick a little while ago. Anyway, it rumbles with the DMC4 demo so I got to check how it’s gonna be like in the main game. Feels good! Can’t wait 'til Wednesday!

Just to clarify, when I say I get tracking problems, I just miss the target I intend to hit. I whiff Streaks a lot.

I know what you mean completely. Since my ps2 broke in 06 I was in a major slump. I think the last new game I played was God Of War 2. But two days into having a PS3 Ive thrown myself back into gaming hardcore.

In respects to backtracking. . going in the reverse order isnt half as bad as DMC3 mission13-19. That was just sickening. From here to there then back here then back to there, get on the temperance wagon 3 times . . teleport back to the strip club in mission 3 . .ridiculous.

Um you can… just select the purchased skill again and it’ll ask you if you want to refund the Proud Souls for that one skill. lol

^Really? Did not realize that. :razzy: Thanks! I’m probably going to refund the mid-air dash attack, don’t use that one much.

Well, DMC3 only had one location - Temen-ni-gru, and the street leading up to it. In that regard, DMC4 has much more varied locations. The jungle is quite different as a DMC locale, so much so that even my girlfriend noticed it. But yeah, you’re still heading backwards.

Did I say before that I love the DMC4 cutscenes? Because I frickin’ love the DMC4 cutscenes. Remember the still-shot of Dante checking out some demon’s ass? He really does check out the demon’s ass. The scene where Dante gets Lucifer is hilarious too. As is Gloria making Nero embarrased. Not to mention that Lady and Trish are especially, um, bouncy. :bgrin:

Also, I want a copy of “Two Handgun” magazine now.

I’ve been really psyched for DMC4 for some time, but now all this talk is making me want the game even more… like right now.

Oh man, just gotta wait till the end of week if I want it.

I’m hearing SoS mode is the optimal DMC4 experience and seems like it should be the normal difficulty for DMC3 vets. Is this true?

What kind of continue system does the game have? Can you change from yellow to gold?

Devil Hunter mode is cool so far… These English voices sound bad compared to JP voices though lol! But at least I can understand what they’re saying.

Argh, it’s Monday. So close…

heh…just before the game gets here I can’t play in my own room until for another two weeks

damn it

Maybe Azrael has warned you of having to install this game before you play it. 4.9gb of space is needed and it takes about 20 minutes but gives you back stories on all the previous DMCs. Enjoying it so far but only at level 3…

There are no JPN voice overs.

 I was thinking that too.

So has the Devil Bringer’s “get over here” been tweaked in the real game? Seems kind of retarded in the demo…

Tomorow is the glorious day for the American release. God I think i might fail my class. I have 2 projects to do and a few hw assignments that are due. I’m gonna be too busy playing dmc4 to work on my school work…
