We Shall Never Surrender - The Devil May Cry 4 Thread - Come on, babes. Let's rock!

Tomorrow’s the shipping date. Which means it should be in stores on Wednesday.

Sometimes a game might hit the store on that same Tuesday but it’s pretty rare. Just don’t be shocked if it isn’t there, you’ll get it the next day.

Explain…

Im confused.

IGN’s reviews are up. They gave it an 8.7 for both the PS3 and 360 versions. The biggest flaw in the game they seemed to imply (which seems to be consistent with what other people have said) is the repetitive level design (i.e. having to back track Nero’s stages as Dante). Another very minor issue was the camera, but this was only a problem a few times. Another issue was how it felt like the game was pretty much all Nero with Dante thrown in as fanservice, which also seems to be consistent with what other people have been saying about the game… and Trish and Lady (and Lady’s yummy boobs) are thrown in as afterthoughts.

Their review seemed balanced and unbiased to me, and it seemed to be somewhat consistent with what some of you guys have said to so far that have played the JP version. I just wish the 360 version allowed you to install files to reduce load times.

Im not going to press this too much because its like beating a dead horse. .

But do you remember the interview with the producers of the games and they said the shortcomings of DMC3 included some of the tedious backtracking?

If its such a problem now why wasnt it enough to stop the average score of DMC3 from being a solid 9? Granted that Dante starts where Nero ends, and then ends where Nero begins … but you remember Temin-Ni-Gru. It was running around in circles! Literally. The stage where you had to activate the various dials near the “subterranean lake” to turn the building around so you could get the 3 red fragments to activate the demon elevator. Ridiculous!

With all that said, I believe the producers kept that in mind going into DMC4, so the “backtracking” still seems more meaningful. You are running backwards constantly instead of backwards and forwards. Instead of going back to stage 14 in stage 16 and then going back to stage 3 in stage 17 . .like in DMC3.

Whatever! lol

Can someone who has beaten it on Devil Hunter on PS3 upload their save file so I can play on Son of Sparda my first time through?

can you go back and play the whole game with dante or nero?

Well the action/story/bosses/combos/characters/glory got it a 9. But the subterranean lake… ugh. I hated that. I messed up there a couple of times. Backtracking back to Mission 2/3. That’s just bad but it did make sense. It’s better than ACTUALLY going through the entire place and back through Cereberus’s stage. Just a little walking and a portal.

Theres a mission select mode. You can go back to any mission you want. But it can be only played with the character you used originally.

GT review - 8.6

They spent damn near the whole review complaining, and then they slap an 8.6 at the end.

GameTrailers is still cool though, and I kinda agree with some of the stuff they said(backtracking, dodgy camera, stupid puzzles like that board game you gotta do 4 times).

Um, yeah. So guys, remember when I said Son of Sparda wasn’t that hard. I was so very wrong. Time means nothing now - enemies that didn’t appear until later in the game are showing up now. You’ll be running through an area and think “What the fuck?! There weren’t enemies here before!” There are now. “What the fuck?! There wasn’t a sub-boss here before!” There is now. And now that you’ve got more abilities unlocked…all I can say is…

HELL FUCKING YES.

DMC4 starts on SoS. DH is just a warm-up. Seriously. Thinking about my battles yesterday still makes me a little giddy. This game just got 3x better.

Yep. See above.

The continue system is sort of a semi-nerfed Gold from DMC3. There are checkpoints throughout the level…so if you die and choose Continue Mission, you get to start from the last checkpoint. I don’t know how the checkpoints are determined, but it seems like halfway through the level + right before a boss. So if you die at a boss, you can jump right back into the fight. Your level ranking though is penalized for using continues. Gold orbs, just like in DMC3, will have you kick back up on the spot where you died.

Awesome.

I agree… All this simi negative talk about the game made my 6 month dmc errection go soft… But, news of a challengeing mode is deffinately uplifting:nunchuck: Uhh! 2 more days…

Cool, so you can get right back in a boss fight if they kick your ass.

Good… because I like getting instant payback on an opponent.

If I seemed negative about the game…I just wanted to warn you guys about some of the aspects that might be disappointing. I know I personally had a lot of high expectations for the game, and sometimes when you don’t get what you want you tend to be let-down, instead of enjoying what you got.

Take, for example, the story. I like the story. A little cheesy, sure, but most love stories are. When the final credits rolled, I was like "WTF?! They didn’t explain who Nero was! " And so I felt disappointed that the one thing I wanted to know wasn’t addressed, and didn’t really appreciate the story. At that time.

So, just know in what areas the game does and doesn’t deliver before you go into it and hopefully you’ll enjoy it better. And if you’re a DMC vet, just play through Devil Hunter for the story/get a feel of the game and characters, and then clear your calendar for when you get to play as Son of Sparda.

Mm, the ass-kicking is back. I love it.

Fuck reviews.

Are there still secret missions?

Yes! You know in the demo when you walk past this fountain thing, and there’s what looks like a poster with the Order of the Sword’s mark on it? That’s a secret mission. …Don’t worry, I’m not spoiling anything, the game will actually point this out to you.

The missions are pretty-well hidden, but the game has a…um…unique way of letting you find them. Also, there are missions that are Dante/Nero specific.

Also, why do these reviewers keep saying that the Exceed system isn’t necessary. Trust me - when you finish off one demon in the air, and you find yourself coming back down to a horde of demons who want nothing more than your blood…YOU ARE GOING TO WANT TO HAVE AN EX MOVE AVAILABLE. They also drive up your style points big time.

Also, the infamous board game - if you like fighting your ass off, it’s not that bad. I actually got through it without dying. At least, on Devil Hunter anyway. I’m sure SoS is going to be a different story.

Reviewers are dipshits, that’s why. Yeah, okay. Combos aren’t necessary in games like Street Fighter either, but you will lose without them.

Also, for those who didn’t like the aspect of the 30 minute PS3 HD install…

So, there you go. The slideshow’s kinda cool too, so grab a sandwich and wait for the show.

:u: Are the load times really bad without installing or something? From all this reading about the load times it sounds like it takes hours to load a stage.
