We Shall Never Surrender - The Devil May Cry 4 Thread - Come on, babes. Let's rock!

A few quick questions Azrael (or to anyone else who has the game):

  1. Does Nero have the ability to quickly change melee weapons with the R2/Right Trigger like Dante?
  2. How does Nero play with the Yamato?
  3. Is it hard to purchase things? Are the amount of proud souls needed hard to come by?
  4. Are you liking the game so far?

wait wait… I thought you were suppose to pick up the art book when you get the game… Fucking christ if they’re out so help me god…

Yeah, i called my gamestop and they said the same thing. You guys who got it early are lucky!

so long as you have your reciept of reservation, you can pick it up from any of the franchisee, i hear.

oh thank god. thanks guys, good shit. I lost the reciept (like I always do) ,but ima make those bitches look in the computer ( once again, like I always do ).

What REALLY sucks is I have to wait for my 360 to comeback from getting repaired, so im not gonna be able to play it for the first two weeks i have it:sad:

The GS i pre-ordered at said they aren’t giving them out till the game is released and only to people that pre-ordered.

damn that’s too bad. My friend and I just went to GS where he pre-ordered. They gave it to him

edit: personally the artbook is meh. It’s nice that it’s free, but when you look at it you can also realize why it’s free—cheap binding and print. The book looks like a copy of a print. At least it’s a pre-order bonus…rather than a DVD pre order bonus

For Pandora…

Gatling Gun: In the air, Square
Bowgun Missile: On the ground, Square
Bazooka: Hold Square on the ground, press left to right 3 times
Laser Cannon: After you transformed into the Bazooka, do a 720
Boomerang: While in Swordmaster Style, press back+Circle
Pandora’s Box flash: While in Swordmaster, press forward+Circle
Missile Battery: While in Swordmaster, press Circle

Not that with every successful hit of the gatling, bowgun and bazooka, your Disaster Gauge goes up. This makes the Laser, Boomerang, Flash and Missiles more powerful.

i.e. If your gauge is full when you use Boomerang and you hold Circle after you throw it out, the boomerang will home in on enemies until the gauge runs out. If your gauge is full when you use the missile battery, pressing circle will unleash your entire silo instead of just one missile.

As for Nero’s past… read the instruction book and it gives you more info on him.

That sounds pretty complicated to use. Is the weapon good to use on bosses? Or does the combinations needed to perform most of features make it too unreliable.

Also, do you think you can take a crack at my questions on the top page?

How is that IR/IE (instant reving/instant exceed) technique coming along for everyone? Just a little practice in the untimed mission and I’m feeling really confident about how consistently I can pull this off. If anyone cares about my half-assed observations* (T=triangle)*::

  • The 1st slash . .EASY! Piece of cake.

-The 2nd slash IR/IE timing is AS SOON AS NERO SWINGS THE BLADE TO HIS REAR

-The 3rd slash in the delayed combo T…T…T, the one with nero makes two awesome looking 360 degree slashes, the IR/IE timing is AFTER THE FIRST REVOLUTION.

-The 3rd slash (non delayed combo) TTT IR/IE timing is MIDSWING!

-The 4th slash in the delayed combo T…T…T…T the IR/IE timing is MIDSWING!

-The 4th slash (non delayed combo) TTTT IR/IE timing is as soon as the blade slams into the ground

-The 5th slash in the delayed combo T…T…T…T…T the IR/IE timing is MIDSWING

-Streak and High Roller IR/IE timing are slightly delayed instead of tapping L2 the moment of impact its more like the moment directly AFTER. In the case of streak … once Nero whips his arm outward completely with the fanning slash. High roller is exactly when Nero’s bent arm is completely over his head.

-I find that its easiest to just practice the single slashes before you try to chain together the IR/IE combos since the rev-ed up slashes come out a little faster and have a different timing and/or animation.

But yeah, Ive came to the conclusion that … .IR/IE is better used for practicality and less for style (even though the end result is flashy)

Theres more crap I have to say about this, but in the meantime I’ll just leave it be.

EDIT: I forgot about slashs 6 in the delayed combo, but chances are if you can get to the timing of 1-5 youre good to go. And I think I read somewhere that the timing gets more and more strict as you continue to IR/IE, that is UNTRUE! The frames are very forgiving.

oops, in my previous post it should be Gunslinger mode, not Swordmaster mode. The commands are still the same though.

Note that I’m still only a few missions in on Son of Sparda, but sort of a final impression so far - while DMC4 is a good game, it fails to set the bar from DMC3 as high as it could have. Its disappointing/frustrating because there are several areas where, if Capcom had just done a little more, would have made the game a lot better. You can feel that the game has been watered down a bit to appeal to gamers unfamiliar with the DMC series.

So while that is disappointing, it is still a good game.

I’ve just started on Bloody Palace, and that’s a lot of fun. Just smashing demons as they come.

So far, the primary way I’ve been using it is, if the ground is swarmed, then just jump up/launch, and take out enemies one-by-one in the air. If the one I’m working on dies on me, just grab another one and pull them up.

With Nero, I like mid-air fighting anyway. I probably spend 70% of the time in the air. I don’t even have Enemy Step yet.

Nero never switches weapons. See below.

As far as I’ve seen, Yamato only comes out when Nero’s DT’ed. The way it works is - Nero attacks normally, and the DT shadow attacks in tandem with him. There is an ability where you can attack together with the Red Queen and Yamato, but again this is only while DT’ed.

I dunno what the rule for acquiring Proud Souls are, but the rate at which you get them seems pretty decent. Lets you gradually buy things, or save up and buy the bigger skills at first.

It’s actually nice having the items separate from the skills, so you don’t have to sacrifice getting a new ability for, say, a green star. …Although I’ve barely bought/used items, green stars come in handy sometimes but I haven’t had a real need for anything else. You also get penalized for using items in your mission ranking.

Yeah. Like I said above, its not as great as it could be - you can tell they’re trying to bring new fans into the series - but that’s not to say its not a good game.

Thanks!

Yeah, I figured it was Gunslinger because I accidentally found the missile battery. I still was having no luck getting boomerang to come out though.

What difficulty are you on now?

I can’t wait for the general release of this game to check if people have the same criticisms that I do. I have a big problem with the camera, the combat tracking (ie. hitting the right target) and the level design (the stages are enormous for no reason and it takes you forever to run from A to B… not feeling any of the puzzles either… basically, if I’m not fighting I’m not happy). Being a DMC noob, I dunno if I should chalk it up to ‘well that’s DMC!’ or if this game is indeed lacking a bit in quality…

Also I might start my game over because the Proud Souls I’ve collected can’t buy anything… I have 3000 PSs to divvy up for skills, and the Max-Act alone (lets you fill 3 EX stocks at once by doing Instant Exceed) costs 5000…

That’s just DMC for you.

Bout to play my copy now. Can’t wait! American Version of course. Been waiting for this for a while:lovin:

Who’d you have to pay off to get the american version a few days early?

Yeah, there’s a lot of sections where you run around a huge area for no reason other than getting a look at an impressive locale and making the game a little bit longer to play.

And the puzzles were never really stimulating at all. They’re just there, to add something aside from combat and so anyone who doesn’t like non stop fighting can’t complain about it.

It’s not that I only expected pure action, but I’ve played adventure and action games that handled level design better. I’m just REALLY impressed by the combat and kind of disappointed in the exploration. But if that’s the norm for the series…

Yeah.

The gripes are more so from the people who arent exactly familiar with the series I think its safe to say. Good or bad, it still seems that those who have played from the very beginning really can see firsthand how far the game has come and appreciate the little things here and there…

I think this blows DMC3 out the water.

And why are there camera complaints? Tapping R3 instantly switches the camera to the view Nero/Dante is facing.
