If they mistime the flip there are often instances where you can forward dash under Akuma, this often takes people by surprise allowing you to go for throw/bnb.

Crouch mp can beat the daemon flip throw but can be difficult to time.

@Richaud That’s good advice, but generally, try to give advice under the assumption that the opponent makes no mistakes. That makes your advice like follows: “You can’t forward dash under the demon flip ever” and “When timed meaty, cr.mp will not beat demon flip”

In that case just follow Eternal’s advice and stay in the vortex :wink:

I appreciate what you’re sating Ostkatten, but other than the options I mentioned there aren’t many of note except block.

Any advice on the Sakura matchup? It seems like I can’t jump in on her at all and my normals get beat by her tatsu’s and her cr.mk into shoryu.

St.hk is good when she tatsus to get in. st.lk and cr.lp and good pokes against her cr.mk. Also don’t jump in against her. her AA is amazing. Cody does well in the ground game against sakura

I wouldn’t rush down anyone with cody. he’s not that kind of character. Zone her out with bad stone and aa properly to force her to play the ground game. If she has no meter, you can easily safe jump off of anything like heavy CU, just walk forward one frame and jump (only against quick rise). off of back throw, OS an EX Zonk from a jump in and it will beat all of her wakeup options.

Any advice for the Oni matchup? I always get blown up and I never know what to do. It seems like if I’m reckless, I do better than I do when I turtle.

Oni is a pretty standard match-up. Stay neutral until you have a chance to get your momentum going. You have the normals to keep up with his footsies and his fireball is terrible, so if he even attempts trying to zone you, it’s an easy EX Ruffian Kick.

His f+HP is easy to stuff/whiff punish with cr. MP xx Special and st. MP. Know how to block what, know how to punish what, etc. Oni has a lot of gimmicks and resets. I’m sure you know this by now. I don’t know much Oni specific tech, but again, the match is pretty straight forward.

Pretty much this. There is no reason to go in on Sakura unless you have a knockdown situation in front of you. If she’s meterless, just go to town. If she has meter. Use meaties. She needs to come to you. You are fine in the neutral game vs her. Unfortunately, she can be a pain in the ass to keep out.

When Sakura has you down, just be patient. Don’t tech or stand tech unless you think the throw is coming. Let Sakura throw you before you let her land a full tatsu combo.

His f.hp is -9 on block so you can punish it on block with ultra. Also oni really struggles against characters with good focus attacks like fei and cody, so try and shut down some of his options with it. If you are losing against his gimmicks, there are a few good tutorial on youtube to beat it. Also remember that s.hp - cr.mp xx hk.ruffian will not work on him.

On an unrelated note: cr.mk is godlike in avoiding blanka’s ex rainbow ball. I used to use b.mp because it would either aa it or come out as f.mp and avoid it by moving him forward. Cr.mk seems a lot more consistent though

Any tips on fighting Rose? I always get zoned out by her, and when I do get a chance to get in, her cr.mp and her slide stuffs me every time.

In this match you have to focus on getting rose to the corner, her backdash is very hard to deal with as Cody when mid screen.
In the neutral game buffer jabs to deal with her far reaching normals and once you convince her that she cant spam them stay just out of slide range so you can whiff punish that.
Cr.mk under fireballs, Cody can go even with her in the fireball game but be aware of her building a lot more meter than you. Her fireballs have a lot of recovery so if she’s throwing loads try and land a big jump in.
Zonk through spirals, you can do it on reaction when cancelled from normals.
I don’t think you can OS her backdash without meter for ex rk, so you might have to focus on reading backdashes until you get that meter.
Alot of Rose players like to backdash/focus backdash so try and be aware of their habits.
One thing I have trouble with in this match-up is her weird floaty jump, she can get very ambiguous jump ins on a KD… and sometimes for some reason make my back mp whiff completely when it looks like it should hit.

OS clsLK or OS Sweep after a 4F safe jump beats everything.

MK Ruffian can catch Rose’s backdash as well.

I don’t think it will connect if you OS it off backthrow or s.lk. Better using EX RK if you can because it catches her in airborne frames and you get the free juggle afterwards.

I’m looking to have a general discussion about the Abel match-up. Dos and Don’ts, approach, frame traps, etc, etc, etc.

I’ve just been getting my ass handed to me by the same 2 Abel players every time I run into them and clearly I’m doing something or everything wrong. Sometimes the match feels unwinnable, but it’s even isn’t it?

In which matchups should I use U1? Currently I only use it in the rufus MU to punish ex.messiah, any other good uses for it? Or maybe matchups where U2 is kinda useless?
