I was loosing a lot against Seth until I started using FP as AA :).
Funny thing is, Fuudo won his set pretty much on focus backdash. Can’t do that with Cody LOL!
THIS x100000!! I cannot stress on how much this is important in Viper’s match up. After I realized this point a few months ago, I’ve become much better in this match up. MOST Vipers will just try to keep you in the corner so always block in the way that doesn’t take you back to the corner. I’ve even told the local C.Viper players here that they really have to mix this up sometimes because it’s clear they just want to take you back to the corner then U1 (or TK, etc.)
Ok, so with AE Version 2010 coming out. These matchup will need a COMPLETE overhaul Cody Players. Lets make it happen.
I actually did that a few times unintentionally, I’ll try recording BK’s in training and mess around with it.
Otherwise, thanks for the help. This guy(who is from this site btw) stated outright that his Viper wasn’t that good, but with the stuff they were catching me with, I was thinking this was going to be a good matchup to train for. He was good with the rest of the characters he was using, so I think I need to just improve generally before I can try going against those effectively.
whooa time traveling!
I don’t think his matchup will change a major degree. if any, mostly due to the nerfs on the other side. but time will tell.
I mean 2012 lol, I’ve still secretly been playing just been hella busy. Zukuu, PM all the matchup notes and stuff you have and found and I can Update these matchups ASAP.
Is there anything that Cody can do after blocking a blockstring by Ibuki? Seems like the only way to get damage is to fish for jabs.
during the block string you can Zonk between the st.jab and st. forward
Well that’ll help. Even at option-select.com and youtube top Cody vs Ibuki matches boil down to Cody blocking 80% of the time and trying to get lucky with crouching jabs to get any momentum at all.
Guys, what OS do u use against backdashers? Not on jump ins but after a c.LP for example? Against characters with good backdashes like Chun/Rose/Makoto/Gen, I found out that s.HK is a really good tool. Against those with a poor backdash(Ryu etc.) a sweep is sufficient but also OS f+HK works!! I think this is really good :O.
I always use s.lk xx MK/LK Ruffian. But I really like your idead of f.hk, since there’s more reward in it if the meaty lands (cr.lp). I’ll definetly implement that in my game. I can see I’ll get a lot of cr.lp xx HK Ruffians going from down to f+HK lol. Scrubby hands…scrubby hands.
I never liked s.LK OS LK/MK Ruffian since if they don’t backdash and you hit them with the s.LK, its hard to continue that combo ;(. And regarding the HK Ruffian… I got that by mistake as OS while trying to do s.LP OS f+HK today… that was too funny I couldn’t do it again cause I have no idea how I did it in the first place.
I’ll try to post a video showing this OS against some characters just to demonstrate. I think F+HK will really be effective, especially if you are ready to do a MK or HK ruffian on reaction! great damage off of a simple backdash from your opponent :O.
How do you guys tolerate fighting people that are just grabbing the WHOLE fight? It gets me extremely irritated, and I sort of just do whatever during the match when the opponent just continues to tic grab, empty jump grab, grab the world, etc.
It only happens with people who know how to destroy Cody, which is to knock him down. Its really hard fighting someone who you know is constantly just trying to grab. I don’t know how to handle this pressure, especially since its not easy to see or read. Its not as simple as “if you know hes trying to grab you have to be prepared to tech grab” or whatever. The opponent is mixing up his/her pressure as well.
The last couple of fights I had today were just like this. Its really frustrating and I just end up doing stupid crap because i’m so annoyed. After fighting a round like this, next round i’m more than certain to start jumping, throwing, doing reversals, etc because of the damn opponent just grabbing.
Any tips guys? I really don’t know how to deal with this random pressure.
ex cu make them choke on their throw attemps. ex zonk works aswell. use small frametaps like c.lp, c.lp to beat out throws. also, teching is quite effective
Fei Long is a 9-1 matchup right?
Cause everything cody does Feilong does better
there is no 9-1 mu in the game. fei long is top tier for a reason, what makes him so good is that he has literally no bad matchup and can do well against everyone, but he IS beatable. imo cody is one of the characters that can handle fei long well compared to most of the cast.
I personally think Cody does better vs Fei then quite a few people in the cast, however I still think that the matchup is in Fei’s favour.
Cody can effectively punish rekkas with Cr.lk which forces Fei players to have to play the match cautiously, especially since zonk and Nj.hp can be used on reaction to shut down Fei’s other options like chicken wings. Using rocks and focus attacks from meduim range are great for baiting Fei’s to jump in or focus attacks, but this should not be overused since it’s very easy to guess wrong in that type of situation and get punished.Cody also has a meaty setup where you can jump at him (j.hk) close to the ground then follow up with cr.hp, this stuffs close enough to everything he has on wake up and is easy to do after back throws.
This, I also really like the Cody v. Fei matchup, and rarely lose to Fei, either with Cody, or Chun. Only Fei I’ve had that really gave me trouble in AE was Laugh, and in Super, Sir Kyo on XBL did to my Chun.
Someone please help me with the Ken matchup, everytime I get knocked down I get Ken safe jumping with lk,lp and starting block string, then a kara-throw, then again again and again, what can I do ?
