What does cody have to punish blocked headbutts from honda? all i know of is U2 when he’s in the corner

I think if you block it standing you can MK Ruffian kick it? Correct me if I am wrong.

I think ex ruffian aswell as mk ruffian can punish them all aside from lp and ex headbutt.

But do you need to block standing?

Don’t think so but it’s easier to do if you’re standing.

I don’t understand everybody’s problem with Akuma. I play a fairly good one who places top 3 in locals and does respectfully at majors and it’s all about patience and recognizing opportunities. You can use U1 or U2 and both have their strengths.

U1, you basically get ultra off any bad s.rh the gouki threw and you get reversal ex bingo fadc into ultra when he’s fishing for c.mp counterhits into sweep. If you use U2, you get free reversal off blocked sweep or bad fireballs and you can kill with any ex bingo if akuma is low life.

When you get downed by akuma, it’s very important to keep in mind what type of knockdown he got. If he downed you untechable you’re forced to block. If he does a demon flip you watch out for a few things. If it’s a dive kick it’s pretty easy to see cause he does it high in the air. If it’s the throw, you can anti-air with c.mp (this is sasaki’s escape method). If it’s the palm, you’re pretty unlucky cause differentiating between the palm and throw is hard so usually better off just guessing to c.mp.

Now against air tatsu’s, you OS block them. you block normal for the jump-in until the very last split second to which you block crossup. Tokido referred to this in his blog and it blocks both mix-ups for you.

Against techable knockdowns, this is where cody is unlike anybody else in the game. He has the potential to sand or dash forward. If the akuma demon flips right after the techable knockdown, you should instantly dash forward upon wakeup and u avoid all three mix-ups and recovery before or equal to the akuma depending on the followup’s timing. Doing this you can avoid techable knockdown mixup from akuma and potentially get a combo in or at least put yourself in a perfect 50/50 which is good odds for cody.

The last thing to keep in mind with cody is how good ex ruffian is. If you sense a back jump air fireball depending on spacing, you can potentially ex rk through it and get a combo or sweep. At worst, provided you don’t fuck it up, you end up in akuma’s face which is where you wanna be.

Sometimes if you feel the akuma is predictable, go for a cross-up situation after knocking him down when you sense a teleport and you get a free ex rk to punish back teleport. Ultra 2 is a good punisher as well.

The last thing you wanna do against akuma is jump over air fireballs that leave you close to him because he just baited you into a mix-up situation for him. You gotta pick and choose your method on getting in and avoid potential traps he sets up for you. If akuma throws fireball traps expecting to AA you with far fierce, stick j.hk out early to trade it in your favor.

I think if any match-up is a real bitch, it’s ibuki and ken. These two characters pose potential nightmares for cody due to their better pokes and relatively safe pressure. If anybody has a way to avoid kunai mix-up or ken mix-up after connected ex tatsu, i’m all ears. Lilsicx666, norcals best ken just fucks my cody up. It was a pretty easy match-up as honda but not for cody :(.

What you completely missed in your entire write up there is even getting in on Akuma. He’s never gonna knock you down because he has no reason to even get that close to you. He will zone you all day with air fireballs and normal fireballs

don’t get the bolded part. what makes cody special that no other character can simply dash forward aswell?

s.hk is actually pretty decent vs dudley. in particular vs his duck when against stones.

Yo real talk, what the FUCK do you do vs Rufus. I just got ran out the park by one. I was cr.mk under dive kicks but i’d just get mixedup as soon as he landed. I couldn’t get a second to breathe

c.mp + c.lp + c.lk. even just trading with dive kick is in your advantage.

can’t see how trading c.lp/c.lk is in favor for you tho, dive kick does 60(?) damage. in fact, c.lk doesn’t work at all lol

lol my bad. werid notation. yeah that works to a degree. c.hp OS vs higher divekicks, but s.lp still prevail as best anti divekick tool.

It’s not all about damage with trades, trading with a dive kick keeps the opponent out of your face.

I’dnt advice a -40damage trade in that frequent just to get some momentum. while that statement is basically true to some degree I’dn’t say it’s a good idea vs dive kicks persé. he’s right about c.mp damage trade tho, nets a +10 damage.
