I would say vs rufus you should never use the slide since it always gets stuffed.

Close to Rufus: nj.hp( don’t abuse this or they will u1 or messiah you on reaction) st.lp,far mp

Medium range against Rufus: s.hp, s.hk, hk.ruffian, st.mk

Long range against Rufus: rocks

Also I would recommend using u1 since u2 serves very little purpose in this match up. With U1 you can at least FADC into it after a hk ruffian.

They can’t because Cody’s forward dash keeps him ducked at startup. If you try this with other members of the cast you’ll eat the mixup. Also, cody has one of the faster, higher dash range dashes in the game making this possible.

If you can’t get in on akuma, you need to throw better rocks and punish fireballs with zonk/crack kick. It’s not a terrible matchup by any means which is why you don’t see sasaki losing to tokido too often.

I read this a while back and it works wonders for me. Bum rush the F*K out of Rufus from the start of the match until he has one bar. Rufus’s get out of jail free card is his ex jesus kick. Most Rufus players wont expect you to rush them down first, or just try to rush you until they get that meter.

Once I get the life lead I zone him out as best as possible, and if I notice he has no bars, bum rush again.

Beware of NJ or badly timed cross ups, snake strike usually shuts that down for me.

On safe jumps, you can OS EX Messiah with Bingo (I don’t recall if it has to be EX though…I don’t play against Rufus at all lol). Both will wiff but you recover faster and are able to punish.

I like to bait ex messiah on wake up and give him a jb.hk.

Really need some tips on the Seth match up. After sparring with someone in endless, I just couldn’t react quick enough to the holes in his mix ups. The worst part is, I got some troll mail after I left. Damn people ruin the online community.

c.mk slides under his fireballs. hk ruffian beats his wall dive into dive kick, bait for that with fake rocks. neutral jump to counter tandem friendly opponents.

Does anyone have good footage of Cody getting through a shoto fireball junglegym? I know what I have to do but I really have to see it done to grasp it.

Does anyone find Yang WAY harder to fight than Yun? I feel I can setup a good counterhit better with Yun than I can with Yang, Yang is like a surgeon. He strikes when it’s gonna hit or when he’s not gonna get hit back, I can’t ever just crack him open

What’s the best way I can punish Cammy wake up when I block it? Seems like she backs away too far.

I’m having lots of trouble vs Vega. His pokes (e.g. cr.lp, cr.mp, cr.mk) are keeping me at bay, the only thing I can use to really keep up with them is st.mp. I can use zonk to beat them all together, but that can be baited, and is pretty unsafe. I can OS his backdash obviously, but his flips are a different story, and I let him go at stupid points because of it.

Anything you guys have would be great, because I’m having a tough time on this one.

Is there an os for deejays wake up? When I knock him down should I just only do safe jumps cause when I try to cause pressure he’ll do his ex move all the time.

after ex ruffian there is a 4frame safe jump setup. other then that, bait and punish him.
against his lk jackknife, you can do any crouching attack to avoid it (c.hp for instance).

Pick the knife up if you can, and throw rocks outside of jump distance. EX Zonk(EX CU works well too) him a few times to get him to stop sticking out pokes, and once you get a knockdown, rush that shit down. Vega has ass reversals, so he’s pretty free on wakeup. Watch out for walk up kara throw in footsie range. Kara throw can happen from surprisingly far away.

How do you keep the pressure on a shoto. They can shoryu a crossup on reaction and if I try to bait a shoryu i run the risk of them getting away from me if they don’t. I score a knockdown then im stuck chasing them for another 20 seconds

don’t chase them. just throw rocks and build meter. wiggling forward, focus dashing trough a hadoken and punishing them, jump over a hadoken, ex ruffian trhough. focus dash through a hadoken, zonking the second does also gives you the ability to deal with hadoken spammer. but, no one forces you to be the aggressor. if they want to sit it out, you can do aswell. in particular when you’ve a life lead. patience is a bless.

It’s important to condition the opponent when you’re dealing with a shoto. Frametraps get shutdown by DP, so stick to tick throws and pokes until you feel you’re in control of the pace. Them DPing your cross ups shouldn’t be a problem most of the time as jumping repeatedly in pressure is a bad idea to begin with, particularly for Cody who lacks ambiguous jump-ins. Summarily, don’t feel the need to rush down against shotos if you’re at an advantage already. One mashed DP into ultra can ruin the match.
