I think its got some reasonable credibility. Since the guy is a master of somewhere around 6 characters and probably knows most if not all the cast.
has it been confirmed or denied whether RH Ruffian hits crouching now?
vs. Rose
Rose cannot absorb or reflect your fireballs, so feel free to stone her to death if she lets you. Once she realizes she needs to make a move, do your best to mix in fake rocks into your arsenal to keep her afraid of jumping in. Once she’s up in yo white boy grill (you don’t want her to be), just block. Soul spiral is safe 90% of the time, but it leaves her out of range for a throw (in other words, don’t press buttons in this situation). Once the Rose realizes you aren’t falling for her silly safe pressure, she’ll probably try to play footsies. Rose’s pokes are super quick. While yours are nothing to scoff at, they aren’t quite as godlike. You’re gonna need Excalibur to win in footsies vs Rose, so pick it up ASAP.
Once you get a knockdown, Option Select the HELL out of her backdash (st. lk OS Ex.ruffian). After you’ve trained her not to backdash, she has 2 reversals: EX. soul throw and EX. soul spiral. She needs 3 bars to make ex soul spiral safe if you’re in her face (you should be). ex. soul throw can be safe jumped (event hubs says 6f startup) and punished on reaction.
If she has U2 stocked during her wakeup, stay the fuck back and throw crack rocks at her. In AE a meaty EX slide on her wake up should theoretically beat her U2.
If you block a slide (rose’s df. mk), Don’t try to punish unless it hit really deep. Your best option in this situation is to do a late OS cr. tech.
I would highly suggest finding a rose sparring partner. She has some very tricky U2 cross up setups, which I have no idea how to block.
Hi,
I was wondering how can you tell what safe jump is actually against which reversals through frame date?
I hear that Cody’s back grab safe jump is safe against 4 frame reversals and up. But how can you tell?
Also does anyone have any insight to the Yun and Yang matchup?
As someone said earlier, cr. LP does seem to stuff the dive kick but I need go into training mode and properly find the timing.
EVERYTHING stuffs yun/yang dive kicks. the hit box of their move is verry deeply within a HUGE hurtbox. you just don’t want to get counter hit. I usually go for c.mp tech or c.hp tech vs rufius, this should work on the twins evern better. s.lp is your favorite stuffing tool tho.

as for safe jumps. u can tell by simply testing it. go to training mode and record cody to do a backthrow, instant forward jump and j.hk into block for a few secs. u just mash any reversal of 5 frames etc and you’ll see what happens. Tho, take note that a few characters have different wake up speed. Adon will get you any day, but u can reversal cammy and sagat due to their slower wake up.
Has cody’s punishers changed now that he has a better crack kick? I assume lvl 3, f+hk, f+hk, hk rk, ex cu in corner might work as an example? Anything else to note? I know you can’t do hk rk, f+hk, u1 but has anybody tested rh rk, f+hk, rh rk fadc u1 instead? I thought i remember doing rh rk after a connected crack kick but can’t test till later this week.
nah the only move w/juggle point high enough to follow 2 crack kicks is excu(or the u2 dust)
& u1 is a jp1 move so it can only follow a single crack kick or hkruffian in any given combo(& def not both)
So Zuku im looking at you give me the new lowdown for the AE stuff. Since I have been able to get AE yet,.
in regards to matchups? that has time yet to tell. Overall I think cody jumped quite a bit in the tier list, due to the other cast being toned down for the most part. twins give new trouble (but they give that to nearly the whole cast), fei is as strong as ever. zangief matchup is way better now, tho. guile and rose are easier aswell. cammy is meh. lose of instant dive kick simply changed her pressure game, but I think she’s still very strong with her new stuff. oni and evil ryu are bearable. but didn’t played any experienced one so far. gouki is still our worst mu, imo.
for cody’s AE changes simply visit this thread SSF4 Cody Arcade Changes I’ve collected everything there.
Confirming that st.LP ist best against the divekicks. In pressure situations use cr.MP/cr.HP crouchtech…
Against Yun 3/4 screen is your sweet spot for zoning. Throw rocks mixed with fake rocks to make them think twice about using shoulder to go through them. If they try to dive kick over them, the new range on your mk. ruffian will punish all day on reaction.
Cheers for that Zukuu.
The OS seems to work nicely, I still have the habit of throwing out b. MP when a Yun or Yang jumps and then I get eaten by a dive kick.
Also while zoning with the rocks against the twins, st. LK seems to work wonders shut down medium range dive kicks.
In my relatively scrubby matches against Oni, I’ve found that C.MK has proven effective at killing random slash attempts. I beat out both regular and EX versions with it, so I’ve started throwing’em out occasionally when approaching. Of course, doing’em up close runs a HIGH risk of being counterhit, but it feels like it’s a good idea to do’em outside of Oni’s normal range. Anyone have thoughts about that?
I like c.lk more vs oni. you can even Buffer-OS into criminal/ruffian the whole time to catch him, if he trys any badly spaced random slashes.
Does anyone have anti twins technology to share? Particularly Yun. What’s the best normals you guys use to AA? Crouch fierce is unfortunately too slow, and I tried crouch teching with it for a while, but I was too open for counterhits and any half decent Yun will capitalize on it when they see me doing it. cr.mp is okay, but now it’s two frames more than cr.lk =(. For far dive kicks s.lp works well and also b.mp, though that one trade more often than I’d like (which is weird, since for normal jumpins it’s so godlike it almost never trades).
Also, does Cody have any response for HK Upkicks? Any way to option select that? Nothing makes me more angry than seeing a Yun fly away unpunished…
i try to use only hk ruffian since i’ve sort of trained myself to react to all jumpins/divekicks with it for max damage. i tried using st lp today on a few good twin players and it worked great, beating it clean almost always, so i’d go with that also.
no idea on HK upkicks, i’m having enough trouble with the lk version since it recovers so quickly and i cant punish it for max damage. i’d say try to bait it out with a fake f mp on their wake up and go for a lk ruffian, thats what i do. take what you can get you know?
So I was wondering… Is someone going to do something about the original post? A lot of empty space there, as well as a broken link to the Dictator matchup!
delay stone can put yun in some serious timing issues with ex lunge. hold it for a bit and then THROW IT RIGHT INTO THEIR FACE FOR REAL SOVIET DAMAGE! kinda works if you get to know their habit of throwing them out, when u mix them with normal rocks and fake ones.
Hello Cody players! I recently picked up Metro City’s premier outlaw defender and have been having issues figuring out his offense approach (I’m generally a Zangief player which makes this switch feel like a major handicap on my part without an unblockable throw…) in a majority of Cody’s matchups. Naturally I figured I could get some help from the wonderful SRK Cody aficionados.
My main areas of difficulty arise in a few areas:
- Timing Cody’s anti-air normals to hit consistently (back.mp, st.hk, st.hp) against the twins and shoto characters who are jump happy, I’m not sure if I should be throwing them out early or waiting…
- Escaping from knockdown to crossup/neutral jump shenanigans (this is somewhat related to the first problem)
- Dealing with cr.lp spamming to stuff Cody’s normals (mainly from shoto characters and the twins).
I’m definitely having other growing pains learning Cody, but the above have proved to be the biggest issues for me. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
- Cody’s b.mp is pretty quick (compared to his other AAs) and lasts pretty long too. Just make sure you don’t hit it too late and you should be fine. As for his st. hk, it needs to be done pretty early, but you can just stick it out there every now and then to catch a poke and a jump-in (yay). I’d be careful any closer than half screen though. st. hp I don’t find myself using that much to be honest.
- Block and tech. Cody isn’t like Gief. He WILL get pressured on wake-up. Sometimes if the opponent is just reckless you can catch them with a hk. ruffian or dash under their crossup. Be careful with EX zonk and don’t rely on it too much. Getting out of pressure is a learning process.
- These are my favorite kinds of players. Catch them with f.mp > cr. lk/cr. lp frame traps and watch them eat those juicy combos. Another thing you can do (albeit trickier) is backdash and sweep their jabs. Your best bet is to just frame trap the hell out of them.
Check this out if you haven’t already. It’s a great introduction to Cody.
