Question, guys… what do you do when someone is rushing you and locking you down when using Cody? I have a hard time getting people off of me when I use him.
You block, tech and anti air is what you do. Relying on bingo in a rush down situation will often get u punished. Just calmly try to figure out the mix-up, fish for a knockdown then switch sides.

I think he is referring to her long range pokes. c.hp xx ex rocks can counterhit her far s.hk and far s.hp quite well. also, on reaction you can punish her pokes aswell as her kioken.
Chun li’s c.hk, s.hk, s.hp and s.mp can all be counterhit quite easily by c.hp and f+mp. C.lp x 3, c.hp; cl.mp, c.hp and f+mp, sweep all work particularly well. Also, u can u2 flipkick easily on reaction. Zukuu beat me to it.
I see gtorinnguru use toward strong into sweep constantly. He can visually ch hit confirm it consistently which is what I’m working on currently.
I got myself into the habit of comboing CH t.MP into sweep on reaction (if I don’t have ultra available). Unfortunately, now I’m trying to unlearn that habit and relearn using c.HP xx HP CU on reaction to CH t.MPs. It’s way better than sweep.
Problem with c.HP after CH f.MP is that there’s a certain range where it will whiff whereas, with sweep you can hit from max range.

Yeah that could be used but it’s not specific to the CH f.MP as it can be done from a non CH. Hunter was talking about CH f.MP -> c.HP -> HP CU being ‘way’ better than CH f.MP -> Sweep.
I don’t particularly agree though as an untechable knockdown will allow for more pressure in certain matchups or just ending the c.HP in LK Ruffian. If you want damage then ending in HP CU or HK Ruffian is obviously the best option.

It works but it’s quite difficult and unreliable really. cl.MP, f.MP, CH cl.HP and the others are much better.

It is a bit hard to figure it out when you are being destroyed by Chun that is a league above you(my Cody is at 6k, friend’s Chun is around 15k).

Yeah, there’s a point where c.HP wont reach and c.HK will, but it’s a very small range. c.HP has some pretty nice range.
Also, about the untechable vs techable thing, like the other thread where we’re talking about OS U2, I’m going to make a video showing some tricks about HP CU where you can take advantage of their wakeup in a very strong manner.
In terms of the “strength” of the pressure you get after both kinds of knockdowns:
Even though it’s not 100% guaranteed like an untechable knockdown, I’d rather take the max damage/stun (which is significantly more) followed by a 95% “strong” pressure situation over sacrificing damage/stun followed by the 100% “strong” pressure.
Of course, this is completely preference, and also completely depends on the matchup and situation. But I’m talking about in general situations here where these kinds of factors are insignificant.
Yeah it definately depends on the matchup for example, it doesn’t make too much of a difference to end in a techable or untechable vs Ryu but against Dhalsim, Sagat or Guile it’s better to end in an untechable so you’re in their face and you can start pressuring them.

I’m fixing some of the matchups turning them into offensive and defensive concepts. Ill keep them simple with basic ideas and concepts unless someone else has a good write up. I’ll add it to it. Until AE when I make the AE Cody thread.

Edited Cammy ,Hakan, Juri, Rose, Ryu, Rufus. Some more than others but I feel like I need to get some info moving with these characters. Anyone have any good info for these let me know. I’m going to go into the lab a bit. Gonna clean up Akuma info and going to get new concepts in there, and put more stuff into Adon.
I’ll help a bit with Rose since you know…I run Rose.
She can OS Cody on wakeup with j.HP>U1/U2/slide if you do regular or EX Zonk. Pretty sure she can also use neutral j.HP as a OS for those same options too.
Since she can’t reflect rocks, you have somewhat of an advantage in the fireball war. She can throw sparks, but Cody recovers quicker than all her sparks that aren’t EX or FADCed granted you’re spacing them right.
IMO it’s a pretty even match. Whoever does better and/or knows the character more ends up winning. They both have ass wakeup games but Rose at least has U2 for a wakeup reversal (in super) and also for the “get off me” option. Cody at least has EX Ruffian, Zonk/EX Zonk and U2 to get rid of orbs. If you don’t feel confident challenging the orbs, just block, take the chip, and watch for throws or crossups. Better to get thrown and reset the situation than lose even more health for pushing a button. Watch for drill frame traps and U2 and overall it’s a pretty even match.
for Rufus dive kick pressure, he’s got HK Ruffian, s.HP, cl.HK, s.HK, cr.HP, and IIRC cr.MP also works. I dunno what he can OS with it though as I haven’t played enough Rufus players to even bother trying.
b+MP stops EX jesus kick clean from about sweep distance.
j.HK done early beats Rufus’s dumb j.HK. It’ll stop him from trying to fish for j.HK>EX Snake Strike whenever you jump towards him that isn’t after a knockdown.
Helps to pick the knife up in the Rufus match. Another answer for dive kicks (s.MP and s.HP with the knife.)
