Sebastian, Caesar, Mike and Yaz are skinny?
the only girl on this show that is close to boner worthy is rachel
excluding hannah of course…
No one would watch a show featuring people who have no fame whatsoever to them. At least bringing in a handful of pro gamers in the mix can generate interest in the show because people would want to see the pros compete outside their comfort zones.
I’ll make up an example. Ask yourself this … Which sounds more interesting to you?
A) A show featuring pro sports athletes (Tiger Woods, Peyton Manning, Kobe Bryant, Derek Jeter, Roger Federer, etc.) competing in contests featuring a wide range of sports.
B) A show featuring a bunch of random “casual” or “semi-pro” sports athletes competing in contests featuring a wide range of sports.
Would you seriously pick (B) over (A)? Regardless of if either show turns out to be trash? Personally, I’d love to see Peyton trip and fall on a tennis court, or Kobe miss the golf ball 5 times at a driving range, or Federer try to shoot a basketball in the wrong hoop, etc! It would be EPIC LULZ!
also is faye a tranny?
i think she is and that is why she’s always wearing the scarf to hide her adams apple
wow, really? You really think any of these “pro gamers” had name recognition from 99% of the viewing audience?
Screw you excluding Hannah. Hannah and J. Wong is why I watch the show.
No, I don’t. Not even close to that! Take the example for what it’s worth … as an example.
Having a handful of legit “pro” gamers on the show is better than having just a bunch of random unknown casual gamers on the show, regardless of exactly how much of the viewing audience knows them going into it. It presents a more appealing package for the mainstream viewer. The mainstream viewer may go “Oh cool, this guy Justin Wong is the #1 SF player in the US!”, or “Oh cool, this girl Vanessa is the first ever female gamer to be drafted to a pro team!”, etc., etc., etc. They might even google them to find out more about them.
The fact is gamers with established status in competitive gaming are more marketable to the mainstream audience than a bunch of unknown casual gamers would be. That was the only point I was aiming to get across with my post. If you are trying to see or divert otherwise, then you are just trolling.
I’m sure he wasn’t discounting Hannah. He was implying she’s automatic!
First of all no one is really “watching it” now as it is anyway. None of these have “fame” as you claim. If a person don’t play video games like the majority of this country, most wouldn’t know whom they are or even care. I’ve stated that they should have allowed casual no namers in this since they are playing against the computer throughout most of the show with the exception to the gauntlet. And the way how some of the matches look since “they were out of their comfort zone” it was very sad.
You can’t compare pro athletes to “pro gamers”. I must have missed that Justin was on the cover of GQ magazine or anyone of the women appearing in Vogue. To add there is an option B that just happens to be similar and it is called “Pros vs Joes”. A great show actually. Yes they are playing against retired players but it is still funny seeing a random guy falling off his ass against an pro athlete.
it was funny though how that one chick was like you just mad cause i still your boyfriend and you are still in love with him admit it
gotta take some balls to do that on day 1 when you will be living with her for a while
Who reeeeeeeeeeeeally cares about this?
As you see from this thread, a couple ppl care for it but just for Hannah, and mostly J. Wong.
J. Wong at a reality show is something to watch I guess if you are bored.
Also I hate how this show is more about the drama than the games but I guess that is reality shows for ya.
if you don’t care about it why even open up the thread and comment?
i need to know if faye is a tranny or not so that is why i am here and i don’t need you getting off topic
So you’ve stated you’re opinion. Cool. But you can’t make the claim that no one is watching it unless you got some proof of terribad ratings to go with that. So I’ll reiterate the point. “Pro” gamers are marketable. Period. This, and this alone, makes them a valuable asset to have on a show like this. They don’t need to be as famous as pro athletes to have value over a cast of all unknowns. And whether it is your opinion that this show would be better with all unknowns, or whether you find “Pros vs Joes” to be more entertaining, you are getting beside the point (and “Pros vs Joes” still goes right along with what I’m saying about having “Pros” on the show).
Pro gamers have more TV value than casual unknown gamers. Pro athletes have more TV value than casual unknown semi-athletes. That is all.
Take JWong for example. His TV value is clear right now JUST going by all the people here saying they are watching BECAUSE of JWong and as soon as he is gone, they stop watching. Why would these same people watch the show if all it had was a bunch of unknowns?
I am saying so because people are talking about ‘girls aren’t that hot’ and ‘why these guys so skinny’ - this is a gamer event, what else do you expect? Guys are mostly going to be skinny and not giving two shits about the girls and the girls are OK at best. Straight from the gym and into WCG pimpin’ ho’s? Blatantly. The media is just catering for the nerds the best way the can. If you were in it for the games, then you would not care about the fluff.
Nobody “knows” who Justin Wong is, either. Stop deluding yourselves. Nobody outside of gaming forums know who he is, hell, even the average gamer has no idea who he is. It’s not a matter of being “famous”.
While i’m pretty sure the producers would love to have every person on the cast be on the level of Fatality, they can only hire people that actually go to the casting calls. The reasons for them to hire people who are/were a part of CGS, WCG, MLG, etc are obvious to anyone with a brain:
1) Their names are recognizable to people that actually go to specific forums and spread the word, which is good for WCG awareness
Here, we have people recognizing Faye and Justin. The show even gets front page here every time an episode shows up on Hulu. At a WCG forum, people will recognize the Fifa dude. At CGS and DOA forums, people will recognize Chosen, Vanessa, Kat. Rachel on PMS and VVV forums… And so on for each and every cast member. Google them if you don’t believe me. Every forum remotelly tied to them has an ongoing thread just like this, and they have their favorites just like Justin here. That is no coincidence, it’s by design.
2) The fact they have history with gaming makes them “googleable”, which is also good for WCG awareness
The casual audience, who knows nothing about pro gaming, will see someone they like on the show and google their names. Swoozie and Starslayer got thousands and thousands of fans/followers/Youtube/Facebook friends out of season 1 because of just that. Starslayer went to Australia, Japan, got work for half a dozen gaming-related products (she’s even in two videogames) and even showed up the other day on CNBC (front page of SRK, too).
Now every time they see a tweet from Rachel or Faye or whatever, they think of WCG. Instant brand awareness.
2.1) People like that are already babbling on Twitter/Facebook/Myspace/Youtube land, before even getting chosen for the show, which is… (you guessed it) good for WCG awareness
If a “likeable” CGS/WCG/MLG gamer that fit the nerd stereotype had gone to the auditions, i’m positive they wouldn’t have gone with AJ. But AJ plays rythmn games at small tourneys and is all over Youtube, so… he fit their bill.
SyFy actually bragged about the show doing well. Go read some press releases. They even renewed the show for season 2 with a bigger budget than season 1 (season 1 already being bigger than their average reality show - go watch some of their stuff and compare).
Seriously, stop writing out of your ass. You have no fucking idea of what you’re talking about.
Three of the guys are overweight. Only one is “skinny”.
most reality shows operate without celebrities or people of any kind of notoriety so the idea that this show of all shows “needs” celebrities is kinda dumb. most reality shows strive off intergender drama/politics, if i had to make the perfect “gamer” show it would involve gamers (pro or otherwise) having to teach non-pro chicks how to play games and compete in pairs or something.
I agree.
These gamers have value for the show, regardless of what someone may think of the show itself.
I am mostly talking on the grand scale.
Gotta be chicks, huh? lol
And while, yes, most reality shows do operate with people of no notoriety, they also involve concepts more corny, more ridiculous, and therefore, more “entertaining” to the mainstream viewer than seeing people play video games. The mainstream viewer likely sees gaming as lame (likely why CGS failed), so WCGUG2’s strat is to reel them in with the real life challenges gimmicks and hopefully retain them by having “pro” gamers featured in these real life challenge gimmicks.
you can probably count on one hand the amount of TV shows that don’t have a good number of broads in it. even more so for reality shows. if you want a popular mainstream show then you need to have chicks on it, the more the better and not just so guys will be like “omg she’s hot!” but girls bring in girls and of course drama. alternatively you could just show more actual gameplay (a la madden nation).
