This show is dumb on so many levels but I am still enjoying it for that.
what about G4?
G4/Tech TV died a long time ago.
Spoilers on who won if anyone cares
Who won
Spoiler
Seems like Yaz won since he commented on Facebook that the Ultimate Gamer would arrive at the J!NX PAX party
How can they know considering the finals takes place live in september? The most you could know is who is in the final 2
Yeah, now it’s just a watered down Spike TV…what a damn shame.
Lol fail on my part then. Thought they filmed everything already.
Iunno what to think of this season. I just don’t give a dayum. I “watch” to look at the co-host chick but other than that meh
lol yep same here and to see J. Wong. That about it.
this shit is bad with a capital b
The trend hits even them.
History Channel Abandons History in Favor of Ratings - Associated Content - associatedcontent.com
“The History Channel (or “History,” since it hipped up its name this spring) has been in a none-too-subtle transition since 2007 … changes pertain to one goal–shifting the viewership to a much younger audience … A&E went from featuring a mix of fine arts, documentaries, and original literary screen adaptations to a pastiche of reality series shamelessly pandering to the lowest common denominator.”
Discovery Channel Rediscovers Itself
“Since becoming Discovery’s chief three years ago, Root has helped pull the nature channel out of a ratings slump with shows featuring, in no particular order, people battling nature, people living in prison, people saving the planet, and so on … Root likes to say that Discovery shows must equally educate and entertain. But entertainment rarely takes a back seat. Which is why Root hung on to MythBusters. It features a motley crew of geeky special-effects masters, who, among other things, test food for its flatulence-inducing, um, qualities.”
Point is, EVERYONE is doing stuff like reality TV nowadays. And they do that because that is what people are tuning into. The majority of the TV audience prefer gimmicks and brainless entertainment over anything informational or requiring some thought. And the “gaming channel” G4 is not immune. You know what one of the most popular shows on G4 is? Ninja Warrior. Now, I’m not hating on it, but that’s not exactly gaming-specific programming.
You do realize there are a grand total of TWO gaming shows on G4 now? G4 stopped being about gaming a LOOOOOONNNNNG time ago. Now it’s just a wannabe Spike TV. Ironically, Spike TV has Gametrailers with more helpful info. Only time G4 is actually useful for gaming is when E3 rolls around…oh how I miss the old G4.
the shit on the history channel? that show is garbage, it’s all about ice truckers.
i am disappointed about this episode…how can the deciding factor be a shootout with the COMPUTER?? that’s like going by judgment in 3s…they should have just done more sessions until someone scores.
Yea, it’s like porn but the gaming sucks.
The format of the show isn’t the worst thing in the world, it’s just that for crowning the “best all-around gamer” the sheer amount of judged gaming is pathetically low. Because the show insists on “Isolation challenges” and makes them take turns and play only one at a time, seems like the show producers wanted to spend as little time shooting and forced the video game challenge be a mere couple of minutes per person per episode. It’s not like people here are demanding something like an Evo stream, because they could still edit down, say, a 30-minute gaming session to a mere 3-4 or so and reserve the rest of the show time for the ridiculous real-life challenges and the hammed up drama among the remaining players. The only really good thing about the reality TV parts is that it gives me reason to want to root against guys like AJ and RyBu, so I guess the show is doing something right.
I’m somewhat surprised that SyFy thought they would get a lot smaller viewership for an 11pm (ET) Thursday night program on their network if they stuck more to showing gaming and stayed away from the reality crap. Never knew the average SyFy viewer had such discriminating tastes…
lmao… top shot is beastly (cause i have a gun an shoot myself)… IRT aint cuttin it this year… i was a fan first 2 seasons… now its zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
anyway if justin gets eliminated… im done even tuning in.
“Why aren’t there videogame shows? OMG, why!”
Videogame show starts.
“LOL SUX SO MUCH OH WOW!”
Instead of sending feedback, writing contructive reviews, gamers write a hundred posts a week hating on it and making fun of it.
One of two things happen:
a) Show becomes even more mainstream to try and stay alive.
b) Show is cancelled.
“Why aren’t there videogame shows? OMG, why!”
It’s amazing how gamers in general don’t understand even the most basic shit.
You think everyone making WCG UG loves videogames? You think everyone making the Resident Evil movies does it because they love Resident Evil? No! Someone had to see the potential, then get financing, then convince the financers it would make money, then do market analysis, then change shit to convince the studio, then change more shit to convince the channel, then there was more polling and hiring people to do the job and so on and on. You think the female host goves a shit about games? The only people that gve a shit are the male host, whomever came up with the concept and whoever is the WCG liaison on the show. That’s real life! There isn’t some hidden army of videogame fans working on television that will magically get together from across the country and ignore basic rules of entertainment and media just to please the few thousand gamers actually watching the show on SyFy.
How about goddamn Mysthbusters? You can bet your ass 90% of the people working in Mythbusters don’t give a fuck about science, and you can bet your ass 90% of the audience doesn’t either!
YES, THAT MEANS YOU!
You watch shows that do exactly the same as WCG UG, and you love it!
Newsflash: i’ve heard with my own ears teachers saying their experiments were ridiculous and that wasn’t solid science. I’ve seen threads with dozens of people saying the same shit.
Some scientists/students/teachers see it as a way of making science look fun (i have one biologist friends that say “it isn’t very good, but it’s fun”). The stuck-up, narrow-minded ones will keep whining about it like little cunts.
Which one are you?
The stuck-up, narrow-minded gamer that doesn’t understand how the world works, or the game that sees it as a (necessary) way of making gaming look fun?
This season they got Nintendo involved (Sony already has the god-awful, 100% gaming-free “The Tester” show), they have a PC game, they tried to pick more people that actually go to tourneys. It’s not much, but if they keep doing it year by year, maybe by season 4 they’ll hav a nice balance between what tv needs and what gaming needs. Obviously, they can only pick contestants that actually go to the auditions, they can’t just kidnap Fatality and put him on the show.
Add the fact it’s a tv show that needs millions of viewers to stay on the air, and i’m personally more than fine with the whole thing. It’s funny seeing how people act thwne they’re locked in a house with strangers, there’s a nerd falling in love with an animu chick, there’s people doing funny real-life versions of videogames and there’s gaming presented in a way that isn’t boring like watching a Youtube video of NHL 2010.
Hell, i’m pretty happy with it.
Maybe it was AJ, maybe it wasn’t. Maybe AJ knows, maybe he doesn’t. But just to show how much you fail:
a) AJ plays Street Fighter. Like, i don’t know, 2 million people.
b) AJ is part of the gaming community. Forums, youtube, etc.
c) He’s friends with Rachel, kid. They hang out and even make youtube videos together. Rachel is still on the show. Hell, i bet he still talks with others on the show too.
So… STFU if you don’t know what you’re tlaking about.
Dayum lol
the pentagon was almost a square.
