WARNING! CAPCOM FANBOY RANT!
No SF2 Revival endings? That really sucks.
Sadly, being the SF Fanatic I am I’ll still buy it… It’s not like I’ll have a new SF Game to buy for a LOOOONG time. Capcom says we’ll get SF4 2007 - 2008, but knowing them we won’t get squat and have to wait another 20 years for SF4…
Well, I hear the new remixed Tracks are good at least.
I mean, it’s like Capcom stopped rehashing SF2 and went on to make other games that never reached SF2’s popularity. There biggest success stories were SFZ3, CVS1 and CVS2, that include the entire original cast of SF2. (Though, in Japan SF3 Third Strike has a strong following. Methinks they know better since it’s hands down the greatest fighting game ever created). Anyway, Capcom will make buckets of Money with this new version of SF2, I dare say more than they will with a new SF4, and most of the people who will buy it stopped playing SF after SF2 and won’t give two craps about Revival’s endings that tie into SFZ.
Capcom was trying to make a brand spanking new Fighting Game this year. What happened? People trashed it, even though all they saw was like a not even finished 18% Beta. Not to mention, every first 3D Fighting game sucks because of all the debugging that’s required. Once all the hard work is done, they can just build on it for a Sequel. See how incredibly bad Virtua Fighter 1, Tekken 1, Soul Blade 1 are, and see how great those series are now with upgrades and sequels. Heck, even 2D games go through this, I know SVC2 will own SVC1 just like CVS2 owns CVS1, but no one wanted to give CFAS a chance. The public gave Capcom a message loud and clear. No one wants anything new so the only game we are getting for SF’s 15th Anniversary is yet another rehash of SF2.
So, the question remains, how come Capcom just doesn’t reuse the entire SF2 cast for SF4? Here’s the thing. Disregarding side games like the SFZ Series that’s not a Tourney, each new SF game throws the previous game’s storyline to the winds and introduces new characters. It’s what the series is, and is the source of it’s popularity in Japan, so you can’t expect Capcom to cater to everyone else except Japan and rehash the SF2 Cast yet again. It is what seperates it from KOF, where 90% of the cast returns in every single Game. I mean, if you think about it, it’s rather silly that so many of the same people compete in KOF every year and are fozen in time many of them STILL in High School, Kyo and Iori STILL can’t resolve their Rivalry even though they see each other every year and every unrequited love match in KOF still has not been resolved. Oh, I love KOF, just not as much as SF.
But no SF2 Rivival endings does really suck.
