Bengus - Obviously Capcom’s best & most well known artist, but suprisingly nobody seems to know his real name. Apparently after sometime stopped working with Akiman, and stopped designing characters (for Capcom)

Akiman - Known as more of a character designer than an artist. He’s single handly designed more characters than any other Capcom employee. (His real name is known, but I cant remember it at the moment)

Edayan - ā€œThe next Bengusā€ judging by his art and designs. Edayan has been Capcom’s biggest up and coming artist in the last few years. His real name may be Nayade (Edayan backwards)

I think that just about does it.

Oh Sano, are there any other Capcom artists that have done as much as these three guys? I know Kinu did art for MvC, Cannon Spike, and CvS2, but has she done alot more than that, or does she not even compare with these three guys? Cause the three of them are obviously Capcom’s three leading character deisigners and artists in terms of fighting games.

Akiman and Bengus are definitely the two main Artists. Kinu hasn’t done that much but she’s one of those artists whose work really stands out so I’d say she’s up there with the three or pretty close in terms of greatest. Shoei and Sensei have done lots as well, especially on older games. A personal favorite of mine is Harumaru who hasn’t done that much but has done all that great Strider 2 Art.

  • sniff *

… :frowning:

Beware the new print of Capcom Illustrations that is available on animebooks etc. It’s obviously a pirate copy. Sure, they said that it might be and gave it a slightly lower price, but the quality really suffers. Minor details are hard to see and the general color seems off. If you want it, pay for the original version.

Sieg - Yeah, that’s kind of what I meant when I said it’s hard to find an Original of Capcom Illustrations.

Upon closer inspection of the Three Art Books, I found out Bengus actually did a Character Drawing of older Gouki for SF 3 Second Impact. Also, Kinu Nishimura’s actually been around since SF2 and her body of work is as impressive as the other three so I’d say she’s the other major Capcom Fighting Game Artist. The thing with her is her style has changed so drastically over the years as her old artwork looks a lot like Akiman. Shoei and Sensei have also been around since SF2. I will briefly talk about Shoei and Sensei and then discuss Kinu Nishimura’s works.

Shoei - I’m actually really confused about something. There’s an SFZ3 Group Drawing Capcom Design Works attributes to Shoei. SF Eternal attributes the same drawing to Harumaru, and in SF Eternal other artworks are attributed to Shoei. Capcom Design Works attributes Strider 2’s Character Art to Shoei but it’s well known that was done by Harumaru. Since Capcom Design Works attributes one name of the Artist for all works, (Anything Bengus did past and present is credited to CRMK) I think Harumaru and Shoei are the same exact person, and that SF Eternal attributes the Art to the name the Artist gave at the time. Either that or the two artists have worked very close with each other. I’m leaning towards them being the same artist, however. Darn Capcom Artists changing names, changing Art Styles and not giving us their real names… Anywho, over the major stuff he’s done, he did all the Artwork for Cadilac And Dinosaurs, majority of art for Strider 1, (also did work on Strider 2, if he is in fact Harumaru he did almost all the art ) one group drawing of CVS1, lots of SF2 Art, Knights of the Round Art, one SF3 Chun-Li Drawing and one drawing of Varth Operation Thunder Storm.

Sensei - Sensei is Capcom’s Main Mecha Artist. If the game has Mecha, Sensei was involved. He’s done all artwork for The Punisher, lots of SF2 Artwork, along with Tsuyou Mecha Designs of Cyberbots, by himself Mecha Designs for Powered Gear and he’s the main artist behind Tech Romancer.

KINU NISHIMURA -

SF2 (Lots of Artwork, all drawings of the characters for SF2 Championship Edition and SF2 New Challengers Turbo)
SF3 (Alongside Akiman another Main Character Designer)
POWERED GEAR (All Character Artwork. Sensei provided the Mecha Art.)
KING OF DRAGONS (Main)
CYBERBOTS (All Character Artwork. Tsuyou and Sensei provided the Mecha Art)
CANNON SPIKE (All Artwork Minus one Bengus Drawing)
DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS SHADOW OVER MYSTARA (Main)
CVS1 an CVS2 (Capcom Style Version of all Characters, Kyo and Sakura in a Neo Geo Pocket Battle Pic)
RS2 (My mistake earlier. All Artwork except for one Group Pic drawn by Kinu Nishimura was done by Edayan)

Oh and TAS, in case you misunderstood what I said (sorry for not being more clear) Edayan has only one Drawing for SF2 New Challengers. Ryu and Chun-Li with the new Challengers is one drawing. It’s on the cover of the USA PS1 Version of SF2 New Challengers and New Challengers Turbo.

Special Thanks to Puar over at MMCAFE. SVC Endings!

http://www.confusticated.com/svc_frames.html

now this is just plan silly.

There’s a real player movie file with all the SvC endings somewhere on the net, but it needs real player. If you want the dialogue, Gavok wrote an ending dialogue FAQ for SvC at gamefaqs.com.

Juni and Juli don’t talk like robots. Even SNK chooses to ignore that aspect of their personality :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah but Akuma beating Akuma just seems silly as does Mr Karate beating Mr. Karate

TiamatRoar - Yeah, I saw that site but I don’t have real player… thanks for letting us know where to find the Dialog!

Dan’s ending - Hilarious!
Chun-Li - It’s cool seeing her in Metro City, but her ending’s depressing… I like her CVS 2 ending better. No art, but at least it’s upbeat
Ryu - His ending’s funny because it’s so consistant! He’s always walking off into the sunset! LOL!
Mike Bison - Ruling Shadowloo! That’s a Riot!

I was writting out movelists (for my games/stories) and anways here’s Ryu’s move list (but its just it just his major/outstanding moves)

RYU

Hadouken - Fireball (SF1)
Shakunettsu Hadouken - Firery Hadouken
Shoryuken - Rising Dragon Fist (SF1)
Tatsumaki Senpukyaku - Hurrican Kick (SF1)
Sakotsuwari - Downward Punch
Kyubi Kauduki - Two Punch (the first two hits of the Shin Shoryuken)
Seichuu Nidan Tsuki - Foward Elbow (SFA3)
Jordan Sokutou Geri - Foward Kick (SF3)

Shinku Hadouken - Super Fireball
Dejin Hadouken - Charge Fireball (SF3)
Shin Shoryuken - Super Rising Dragon Fist
Shinku Tatsumaki Senpukyaku - Super Hurricane Kick

(I put the first game the move appears in next the names, but didnt know the first appearence of some moves)

So far I guess this is Ryu’s compete Canon move list (ot counting his minor moves)

Sadly though no version of Ryu has all these moves at the sametime (cept some MUGEN versions)

But then again, who says Ryu never changes? (gameplay wise)

If Ryu had ALL those moves, he’d be dangerously close to being broken in the game.

Speaking of the endings, I found most quite interesting. Balrog probably did try to rule Shadaloo like that after Bison. I don’t see why Sagat would be offered the leadership though. He does say that Balrog should have it. However, Sagat even being close to Shadaloo at this point contradicts SF canon. Unless they’re desperate for anyone who ever was in the organization.

Chun-Li rides in the car with Edi E. Little does she know… in general, SvC isn’t very flattering to Chun-Li. Constant thigh jokes and her being a raving lunatic hellbent on putting everyone in prison. I think Ryu and Ken are the only ones she doesn’t hate.

ā€œLeaperā€ as a ā€œmisspellingā€ of Ripper actually makes more sense. Leaper and Hopper. When Geese says ā€œjumpā€, they leap and hop. How high?

Mai doesn’t recognize Hokutomaru, which implies that she’s not his sister by blood. However, since she is so close to his master, it’s very likely that he’ll refer to her as his ā€œbig sisterā€ five years later.

I wonder what silly Japanese phrase ā€œoodly doodly coolā€ is supposed to represent… I know Yuri has speech problems (yoyutchi!) but this is just silly.

Iori goes into Orochi mode in his ending, hunts down USA Team in his Orochi ending and attacks Kyo in his ending. Also, I guess Ken did turn Violent for a while during this game but returns to normal. All in the ā€œcanonā€ of the game.

Judging by character comments (I haven’t read all), it should take place in 2002 or 2003 for the KoF characters and right after SSF2T for the SF characters. Bison is supposed to be dead, just like Geese and Goenitz. Akuma, Terry and Chizuru respectively are surprised to see them alive. However, we see a young Hokutomaru and Joe (not Andy) invites Terry to the next KoF and we know he did invite Terry to KoF2003 (and Terry brought Tizoc instead of Andy). We also see May-Lee in Kim’s dojo… then again we see Kizuna Encounters characters outside it… Anyway, it can’t be around 1996 since Geese wasn’t dead then.

Ohhh, just found Gavok’s dialogue FAQ. Some of this might be interesting even for canon FAQs. Time to comment:

Chun-Li has most likely heard of Akuma through Ryu or Ken, probably not through Interpol.

Akuma vs Kim: "There is no good or evil to strength! I seek only pure power!"
Good example of his philosophy.

Bison implies that Akuma killed him earlier.

Akuma implies that his victory will put his ā€œevilā€ opponents in the Netherworld. Maybe someone killed by Shungokusatsu (which mostly affects evil characters) stays in hell?

Ryu and Akuma certainly met in A2.

Akuma thinks Violent Ken is in Satsui mode.

Ciel: "He’s Akuma, ancient assassin from Japan’s middle ages. Beware, though… His abilities go beyond my data."
Eh eh eh?

Kim is a prude.

Athena sure takes her job seriously. Many fighters just want to leave but she insists on fighting them.

Chun-Li is… ā€œthick-leggedā€, a future ā€œugly hagā€, a ā€œcackling harpyā€, a ā€œcackling henā€, has ā€œchunky legsā€, ā€œreally rippedā€ā€¦

Balrog knows Guile. After all, Guile beat his boss.

Ken vs Balrog: "Hey, ya bum! Preparing for another Vegas loss!"
Did Ken defeat Balrog in the tournament? Balrog vs Violent Ken also shows that they’ve met.

Ryu recognizes Balrog and apparently manages to block one of his heavy punches.

Ryu and Terry both come off as friendly guys, willing to give anyone a good fight.

Apparently Chun-Li put Choi in jail to begin with in the SvC universe.

Choi definitely has a complex for his height. He even considers giving up crime to let Dhalsim make him taller.

Choi makes fun of Kim, sometimes acting like him against Balrog and Bison. ā€œEvil I do not forgive. Just a joke, buddy boy.ā€

Mai and Ryo know Choi, but Terry apparently doesn’t.

Choi knows Takuma.

Dhalsim and Chun-Li seem to have met and are very friendly. Same with Chun and Guile, Ryu and Ken.

Chun-Li can carry a tune.

Chun-Li doesn’t seem happy with her legs.

Kim knows what he’s doing (harboring criminals) is illegal, but wants to do it for the good of justice.

If this is after SSF2T, Chun-Li didn’t reach Bison. She should know that he has already been killed.

Chun-Li doesn’t want to arrest Sagat, but she thinks he knows where Bison is.

Chun-Li has heard of Terry.

Demitri vs Dan: "You will not serve me? Your strength eternally… Strength… Ah, let’s
forget it."
LOL!

Dan doesn’t know Dhalsim, Guile… but he knows Ken and Ryu (from A2?)

Dan has a gut.

Dan vs Mr Karate: "No, you can’t be. My father’s dead! You imposter! You dare play with my
damaged psyche."
Indeed.

Mai and Hokutomaru were never sister and brother.
Basically, it was a funny joke. In Japan, younger ppl will call older women either Oneesan(usually used for girls 16~25) or Obasan(26~40). Since MOTW takes place in 2008, Mai should be considered an Obasan since she’s like over 30. But basically, Mai is forcing Hokutomaru to call her Oneesan. It’s a common joke in Japan

ok TAS , i don’t remember what happen when , TAS actually said snowstorm got possessed by demon ??

Wha…?

Thnx for the list BBC, but there’s one move missing, ā€œKuzuryu Reppaā€ which is a combination of the three supers you listed.

ARIKA first created the move, then SNK/Playmore used it SvC, and now Capcom probaly considers it a canon move, considering they’ll just steal whatever fans and themsleves think look good, that ARIKA created (move wise)

But yeah, I think what you listed is his complete canon move list, you can usualy find all the moves in guides on GameFAQs (thats where I got all Ryu’s moves from)

Ill try and put up a Sakura list soon, and who knows, maybe we could end up going back and fourth with move lists till we get them all done, then Tiamat could make a Canon move list section in the Plot Guide, or whatever.

Darn SVC mispotraying Chun-Li. CVS2 Dialogs are WAAAYYYY better. Even old SNK’s SVC for the Neo Geo Pocket Dialogs are WAAAYYYY better. Playmore’s on crack. It’s no wonder why SVC is missing from the Super Battle Opera 2 Arcade Tournament and CVS2 is not, them Playmore punks!

I’ll still buy SVC for PS2 though… Ryu and Chun-Li in any new game is good I suppose.
