Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

QUOTE: “What if Ryu and Chun Li hooked up and had a kid”

Sano would be the only one on this Thread happy!

Seriously, twice in Manga history have I seen two characters have kids when it was long thought they had nothing to do with women. Once was with Kujo Jotaro of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. His daughter shows up in the sixth chapter. JoJo had a kid? Woman have thrown themselves at this guy and he could care less. That was a shocker.

Another time was Raoh from Fist of the North Star, who ironically his son was called “Ryu.” When the heck did this guy have a kid? I thought he only loved Yuria? I forget her name, but Ryuhaku’s daughter practically threw herself at the guy and her turned her down. It was an even bigger shocker when his kid showed up!

So, in closing, if Street Fighter does indeed do the future jump like Sam Sho and Fatal Fury, I think it would be the biggest shock of all if Ryu’s kid showed up! Methinks Capcom would never let it be Chun-Li or Sakura’s kid. Perhaps Gouken’s Daughter? YEAH RIGHT FAT CHANCE!

I was thinking about something.

Alot people/fans/players say there should be a game that there should be a SF game that happens between SFA3 and SF2, and a game that happens between SF2 and SF3, but why or how?

I mean I see the/a reason for the one between SFA3 and SF2 (to wrap up some loose ends) but not one between SF2 and SF3 (although they could do a more complete version of SF3 perhaps)

I myself am in the process of designing 9 (thats right nine) SF games, and the thought occured to me as I was doing some work on the games.

I’ll seperate this, in case you care here are the SF games (Im doing)

Street Fighter Zero (tenative name)
Street Fighter (remake)
Street Fighter Alpha (reamke of SFA2)
Street Fighter Alpha 2 (remake of SFA3)
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 2 (remake)
Street Fighter 3 (remake)
Street Fighter Neo
Street Fighter Gaiden

Street Fighter Zero - Comes from a concept that someone on here on SRK came up with. It takes place years before SF1 and the main chars are Gouken and Akuma. Other characters would include a younger cockier Charile, Muai Thai champion Sagat, a young aspiring Adon, Go Hibiki, Gen, Retsu, Oro, a younger pre-dictator Bison, and Chun Li’s father. The cast is basicly only those characters who are mainly fighters who like to fight and care about fighting. Ryu and Ken are absent from the cast (for the first time, because they are too young)

Street Fighter (remake) - Self explanitory really. Only change is that Joe has been replaced by Cody (makes more sense, since nobody remembers or cares about Joe, plus it wouldnt affect the Canon too much)

Street Fighter Alpha (reamke) - Just a remake of SFA1 and SFA2, but it does not feature all the same characters. It only features characters that are sensable and have a point being in the storyline (meaning nobody like Dhalsim would be in it)

Street Fighter Alpha 2 (remake) - Really just a remake of SFA3, but like the above only includes the characters sensable to the storyline like the 12 Dolls would be added to the cast (even though its only “sensable” chars the cast is still quite large)

Street Fighter Alpha 3 - The game that combines the cast of the SFA remakes and SF2 (that havnt been featured thus far) and the storyline that wraps up what happens between SFA2 (remake) and SF2.

Street Fighter 2 (remake) - Really no change at all, except storyline wise everything is made clearer (like who won the tournament, and what happens to all the chars after the tournament, and down the road)

Street Fighter 3 (remake) - Basicly takes the little storyline all the SF3 games, and meshes them together, more details and plot are given to make a more sensable storylines for the cast & plot.

Street Fighter Neo - My own game which alot people here are familar with. Takes place in the somewhat distant future of SF would be the gyst of it (see sig for more)

Street Fighter Gaiden - The “what if?” game/storyline that I was trying to come up with in my earlier post.

Well thats all, I might end up doing SF4 to make it an even 10

Fei Longs SSF2 ending is translated incorrectly into English. Capcom USA added in a bunch of references to “The Great One and his son” that were not originally there.

Heres a summary of what actually happened in the Japanese version:
A director, impressed with what he just saw, approaches Fei-Long and wants him to star in his movie.
Fei-Long says, "I thought you understood.
What I want to do is not acting, it’s real fighting."
The director offers him as much money as he wants, but Fei-Long just jumps away.
Twenty years after Hong Kong’s greatest action star has faded from the screen, three million students practice “Hitenryuu Kung Fu” (translated from Japanese as “Flying Heaven Style Kung Fu”) in front of the originator’s memorial statue.
Some are doing so today.
Their teacher’s name is — [Fei-Long never mentions “The Great One and his son” (Bruce and Brandon Lee), and the director never says anything about “re-dizzy combos”. Fei-long is not among the students].

Many of the SF2 endings were translated incorrectly into English.

For example:
Blanka’s ending: In the US version, Blanka’s mother says that he was lost when his plane crashed in Brazil when he was a baby.
In the Japanese version there is no explanation of how, when, or where mother and son were separated.
Since the anklets she gave to Jimmy BEFORE they were separated still fit him, he was probably not supposed to be a baby when he was lost.

  • Chun-Li’s ending: Chun-Li refers to Vega’s organization as “the organization of evil” in the Japanese version.
In the US version, she calls it “Bison’s drug”.
This was probably supposed to be “drug ring”, as the word “ring” was added in later versions of the game.
There is no mention of drugs in the Japanese version.
  • Dhalsim’s ending: Dhalsim says that the photograph is of him a long time ago.
In the US version, he says it is him “in his past life”.
Since only three years had passed, he obviously didn’t actually mean that he had died and been reincarnated since the photograph had been taken.
  • Guile’s ending:
In the US version, Guile asks “Bison” if he remembers: him (Guile), him and “Charlie”, and Cambodia.
“Bison” says he remembers, and that Guile was not the runt he was then.
None of this is said in the Japanese version.
In the US version, after his wife “Jane” stops Guile from killing “Bison”, she says that killing him won’t bring “Charlie” back, only make Guile a murderer, just like Bison.
In the Japanese version, Julia only says that killing Vega won’t bring Nash back.
She does not say that it would make him a murderer.

Heres a little Final Fight 1 trivia:
Poison is taken from the 80s glam rock group (of the same name) in which the singer used to wear a similar hat to the girl in the game.
Abigail is an album of Merciful Fate, whose singer (King Diamond) resembles the character in the game.
Sodom is a famous German trash metal band born in the 80s.
The enemy character Two P appears in “Forgotten Worlds” as the second player (“Two P” for 2P, “player 2”).
Axl and Slash are obviously parodies as well, being from the band “Guns N’ Roses”.
The Japanese version has an additional scene that shows Jessica in underwear on the TV.
This scene was changed in the U.S. version so that Jessica was wearing a red dress.

Here’s some SFA2 trivia:
The sumo wrestler “Fujinoyama” that Sodom challenges in his ending had so much of a resemblance to E. Honda that Capcom, for Alpha 3, changed it to E. Honda.
The Australian prairie stage where Sagat fights Ryu is based on the opening scene of the animated “Street Fighter II Movie”, in which Ryu and Sagat fight in a prairie during a thunderstorm.

Here are some:

What if Zangief’s name was in fact Vodka Gorblavesky?
What if Rival Schools & Project Justice did in fact have some impact on the SF storyline?
What if Cody never got arrested?
What if Bison possessed Rose’s body after SFA3?
What if Dee Jay & Fei Long did a buddy comedy in the SF universe in the vein of Rush Hour?
What if it was as successful as Rush Hour was?
What if Hugo & Birdie created a tag-team for wrestling?
And they appeared in Saturday Night Slammasters?

Capcom USA would have changed his name since it would sound too racist to them. And one of three name changes would’ve happened.

  1. He would’ve just been named Gorblavesky in the US version
  2. He would’ve been included in the name shuffle that Bison, Balrog and Vega went through. So Zangief might have ended up being Balrog, and Bison might have ended up being Vodka, etc.
  3. Capcom USA would think up a name that doesn’t suit him at all like say… Alexander Gorblavesky or something.

I like Vodka Gorblavesky better than Zangief tho…

Accoriding to the book called “Street Fighter II The Movie Perfect Album” which contains a lot of pertinant/Official information on that Movie, the fight between Ryu and Sagat took place in Thailand. According to “All About Street Fighter Zero 2,” the game itself and the above quote (Okay, overstating my sources but it’s always best to be extra sure) the background in the game inspired by the Movie is in Australia. Even though Capcom adopted the background, for some reason they decided to move it’s location.

Tiamat, Saiki, Sano, or whoever I gotta a few questions.

  1. In the Street Fighter Universe (SFU) what moves are canon, and what moves arent?

For instance SFEX isnt canon but some of the moves are (like Bison’s kick throw) like I was wondering are the moves Sakura gained in Rival Schools and the SFEX games canon? Are there any non canon moves for characters aside from Evil Ryu, who dosnt have the Shun Goku Satsu canon wise, but does gameplay wise (cause Evil Ryu is the only char that comes to mind with non-canon moves)

  1. In the official guides, are all of the characters moves listed, like for example, do they give names to things like grabs & throws?

  2. Ive recently decided that I wanna order one or some of the Capcom art books, but which ones are the best, cause I know some of them have alot of the same art. I was thinking about getting Capcom Design Works and Capcom Illustrations, but wasnt sure if they were the best to get or not. Also do the books list who did the art and created the characters or did the character designs?

  3. Tiamat Ive been looking over your SF Guide, and Im compiling a list of stuff you can include/change in your next update, and Im also thinking about making it into an html format that includes pics (like the ones you talk about in the guide) on it, but is this okay with you? (I know about the one on orochi but its outta date and has no pics)

Hmmm I had some more questions, but I cant remember them at the moment, oh well I’ll post them later.

What if Oro had kept training for 52 years?

  1. Capcom really hasn’t said if certain moves are cannon or not. 90% of the new moves in SFEX are not cannon unless they appear in a Capcom game later. Um, I think it would be safe to assume Sakura’s Shungokusatsu is non cannon since to my knowledge, she has never seen the Shungokusatsu.

  2. Yup. Every move is given a name. Throws, even normal moves like a weak punch is given a name.
like Ryu’s medium kick is called ‘High Kick’, Blanka’s hard kick is called “Wild Dance” etc.

…that’s a really good point about the Shun Goku Satsu. How would Sakura know to even name the move something along those lines if she’s never heard of it? I doubt Ryu told her what it was (…does Ryu even know what it’s called? Has he ever seen it, either? )

Actually, come to think of it, she’s only officially met Ryu twice, both of which were seen in-game and none of which Ryu mentioned the move or even Satsu no Hadou to her.

Ah well. More evidence about canonity of RS is always good. Thanks, Saiki!

Oh yea, thanks again, Golden Dragon. But yeesh. I have lots of crap I need to update the guide with when I’d currently rather be playing Diablo 2 version 1.10. Doh! Ah well, maybe when Hyper SF2 comes out. copies and pastes stuff to plot update notes

Sakura’s team-up in RS is called the “Shungokusatsu”:

The character fighting grabs the other fighter and holds him/her in a full nelson (kind of) and then Sakura jumps on screen, the screen goes white and you hear hitting sounds and then after 15 hits Sakura leaves.

I think this is just a version of the schoolyard “bully beat down” and Capcom called it the Shungokusatsu to be cute/funny.

TAS - The All About Street Fighter Zero 1 Book has all the moves written in English, and evey punch/kick has a name you can read, for example, Chun-Li’s Gendenansatsushu (Her roundhouse taught to her by Gen.) That All About Book is the only All About SF Book that writes the names of all the Moves in English and Japanese I think, I’ll double check but I’m fairly sure. The rest have all the moves in Japanese only.

As for Art Books, I think in order of importance it goes like this -

  1. Capcom Design Works - Not only is it the easiest Book to find (Ebay, and it’s in the Viz Catalog) it’s also the best. It has lots of Artwork from Street Fighter and lots of other Capcom Games like Resident Evil, Megaman and so on. Has the great picture of Kyo and Sakura having a Neo Geo Pocket Battle.

  2. Capcom Illustrations - This book is very hard to find, especially a First Print Run because the Company who put this book out went under. (Gamest. Now they are Arcadia but have yet to re-issue their old Mooks and SF Mangas and I’m not sure if they even could due to legalities) Some of the peices in this book are in Capcom Design Works but it has a few other pieces of Art that CDW doesn’t have. The best being a picture with a bunch of Capcom Girls grouped together (nope, no Poison!) Oh, and this book was released before SF3 and SF Zero 2 and 3 so no artwork from those games, and no Sakura or Dolls! DOH!

  3. SF Eternal - The Newest Book, but it was selling out so fast it may be a bit difficult to get but a whole lot easier than acquiring Capcom Illustrations. If you have the first two books, you generally have about 60% of the Art Work in this book. Best feature is the Flow Chart, but you can just read the Plot Guide for that info. This Book is only for either hard core fans like me who have to have everything, or soft core fans who just want Street Fighter Art (or only like SF and don’t care about other Capcom Games) but are not concerned with tracking down every drawing.

In the last issue of the Hong Kong SVC Comic, they showed a very good depiction of Balrog’s past. His Stepfather wasn’t really ugly, just fat. He shot Balrog’s mother dead, making Balrog crazy. This is the first time I’ve seen Balrog’s history shown anywhere, even if this comic is beyond unofficial. It doesn’t come as that big a shock seeing as how every issue has exerts from the All About Series each week focusing on a different character showing all their video game endings (For Capcom, Vs. Games are left out and so is Street Fighter Revival.) The biggest mistake the Comic has made so far is showing child Ryu with a Red Headband, but, maybe they were just being consistant with the fact that no one gets the headband deal right, not even Capcom!

Anyway, so far, greatest event of the comic was when Iori was standing outside the Neo Geo Amusement Park Arcade fighting back Monitor Cyborgs! FUSION OF THE SF2 ANIMATED MOVIE AND FATAL FURY MOVIE I TELL YOU!!! I felt like it was 1994 all over again!

The hands down wierdest event in the comic was when I don’t know how or why since I’m missing 2 issues but Gouki and Mr. Karate were riding Tyranasaurus Rex’s like horses! Reminds me of that old Diss, “Your Momma’s TV’s so old the Cowboys is riding Dinosaurs!” Really whacky fun!

So for moves purposes All About Capcom is better than the Zero 1 book, cause it lists all the SF chars moves and not just the ones form Zero 1?

Well Ive seen the book on a few sites, like when I typed in “Capcom Illustrations” on Google.

But it sounds like its missng alot of good stuff.

This sounds better than Capcom Illustrations, but Im not so sure about getting it yet.

Also I know the EX games were done by ARIKA, but do any of the art books include stuff from the EX games?

And does anyone know much about the artist Edayan? I think he’s the best artist that Capcom has had since Bengus, but I dont know too much about him. These are the only things I know for sure that he’s done art for.

Street Fighter EX Plus @
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival
Project Justice

The first two links include the only art that I know of that he did for SFEX and SFA3. He did a few pieces for SSF2TR, and did alot of stuff for PJ, but thats about all Ive seen from him and know about him (other than that he’ll be doing a cover for the new SF comic)

Oh and where is the best place to get or order import games? For instance right now Im trying to get Rival Schools Evolution 1 (import) among other things, but didnt know what would be the best place to get it from, so if anyone has any suggestions, please tell me.

Thats similar to what I thought, ie the moves looks similar to the SGS and is preformed the same (gameplay wise) so they probly thought it best to just refer to it as the SGS to avoid confusion (gameplay wise, canon wise it creates a confusion)

Like for example I felt/figured the same way about Ryu, Ken, Sakura, and Sean’s styles being known/listed as “Ansatsuken” because Ansatsuken is the style with the killing intent, so once you take the killing out of the style, it should no longer be refered to as Ansatsuken, but it still is to save trouble probaly, since many people would see that Akuma, and the other have alot of the same moves or simiar styles, but then would probaly be confused if the styles were listed diffriently.

TAS - Basically, the Big All About Book called “All About Capcom Head to Head Fighting Games 1987-2000” does not contain every fighting move for every character because it contains all endings of every Capcom Fighter they’ve made since '87 and if they start listing the names of every character’s moves the book would be too masive. But, some of the games have individual All About Books that cover all of the characters moves in that game. All About SF Zero 1 is the only one that gives us names in English. I suppose if you want the biggest listing of the character’s moves you should probably get All About Street Fighter Zero 3.

If you want SF EX Art and Rival Schools Art by Edayan, that’s easy - Capcom Design Works. The first two drawings you posted are in that book. Capcom Illustrations has no Artwork from these games and SF Eternal I think just mentions EX.

So Edayan did the art for Rival Schools Evolution 1 & 2, and also Project Justice?

Do the art books say who drew the pics that are displayed?

If so, please tell what else Im missing form Edayan’s list (above) I read somewhere else he did art for Super Puzzle Fighter II.

Right now Im trying to compile lists on Bengus & Akiman, and then smaller lesser known artist like Edayan.

What I know of now

Bengus Credits:

Edayan Credits:

Super Puzzle Fighter II
Street Fighter EX Plus @
Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Project Justice

  • character designer

Im not exactly sure if Edayan is a character designer or not, I’ll have to look at the credits for Rival Schools Evolution 1.

dashtaisen.com used to have the name of every normal move (jabs and that sort of thing) for the people in EX and Darkstalkers. But the site is gone and I never found the information again.

I remember this site that had all the moves for games like SFA3, but they werent just listed in type, someone had actually taken the time to make the move lists look like they came out of an official strategy guide, and I use to have the move list for Evil Ryu (SFA3) and it was freakin awsome, but I no longer have it, and I dont remember the site it was on/at, or am I thinking of dashtaisen.com?

Dashtaisen did have the lists a long time ago. I got Juni and Juli’s movelist with names from there :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmm… think there was something else I was supposed to address. Eh, tomorrow. Need sleep now.

TAS - All the Drawings in all the books have the names of the Artists that worked on them. I’ll tell you Edayan’s in the three books and I’ll compile a list of sorts. Either tomorrow or Monday I’ll Post.

Bengus changed his name to CRMK. He also worked on Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Capcom Design Works Credits all his Drawings old and new as CRMK. I think you got all of Akiman’s and Edayan’s, but I’ll post the CRMK/Bengus ones you are missing.

HOORAY! Some free time! Here’s my listing. Note that I am only dealing with what’s in the three mentioned books. When I say Main, mostly I mean they provided the overwhelming majority of the Artwork on said game or all of it. All Artwork usually means if you’ve seen character or any Art from this game, the Artist did all of it. If nothing is said next to the game, they provided artwork for it but I can’t be sure if they are the main Artist.

BENGUS AKA CRMK -

SF 1 (One of the Main Artists, provided all character Art)
SF 2 (Along with Akiman)
SF ZERO 1, 2 & 3 (Main Artist)
X-MEN VS. STREET FIGHTER (All Artwork)
MARVEL VS. STREET FIGHTER (All Artwork)
MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 1 & 2 ( Except for 1 Kinu Nishimura Pic of all the MVC1 Capcom Cast, all Artwork)
STAR GLADIATOR (Main)
POWERSTONE 1 & 2 (ALL ARTWORK)
ALIENS VS. PREDATOR
FINAL FIGHT 1
CAPTAIN COMMANDO
DARKSTALKERS SERIES (Main Artist)
CANNON SPIKE (Kinu Nishimura provided most of the character Designs and Art Work, but Bengus drew one picture of all of the Heroes.)
CVS 1 (Drawing of Dan fighting Joe, drawing of Kyo fighting Ryu, drawing of Ryu and Kyo stairing each other down)

Bengus also drew that Pic of all the Capcom Females grouped together I was talking about.

AKIMAN -

SF2 (Main Artist along with Bengus)
SF3 (Main)
X-MEN CHILDREN OF THE ATOM (Provided the Main Drawing. All Character Art for this game was taking from existing Marvel Artwork. Same deal with MARVEL SUPER HEROES but I don’t know if the Artist who did the Main Drawing was Akiman or Bengus since I only have it in AAC. MSH Main Drawing looks like Akiman imitating Bengus’ Style if that makes sense…)
1941
1943
LOST WORLDS
CAPTAIN COMMANDO
FINAL FIGHT 1
SIDE ARM
MAGIC SWORD
BLACK DRAGON

Akiman also did a drawing of a bunch of Capcom Females grouped together with some Text. HEY!! WHAT’S POISON DOING THERE???

EDAYAN -

SF ZERO 1 (2 drawings of Chun-Li. The “generation” Pic that shows her as a child, playing an instrument and a cop, another of Chun-Li putting her shoe on.)
SF ZERO 2 (Another Main Artist. Provided a lot of the character art and various drawings of the characters)
SF ZERO 3 (Drawing TAS Posted)
SF EX (Main)
SF EX 2 PLUS ALPHA (Main)
RIVAL SCHOOLS 1 & 2 (Nearly all of the Rival Schools Artwork was provided by Edayan. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t the main character designer)
SF 2 NEW CHALLENGERS - Drawing of Ryu, Chun-Li and the New Challengers.
SF 2 REVIVAL (All Artwork)
DARKSTALKERS: VAMPIRE HUNTER (Group Drawing)
VAMPIRE SAVIOR (Drawing of Lilith, and a drawing of Ibuki with Bulleta)
WARZARD

Edayan also did a Fake Tech Romancer Toy Ad Along with Shoei and a Year 2000 Capcom Drawing with various Capcom Characters. Edayan provided no Artwork for Pocket Fighter or Puzzle Fighter. Those Games were attributed to other Artists. Capcom Illustrations has no Edayan Artwork.
