Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Tiamat - I really hope this one’s better than the WW crap, but did you know there was a web version of that called “Warrior: The Fight”?

It was actually a nice system, compatible with the likes of V:tM & W:tA, etc… I dunno If they saw this one, we put it together with the WW combat book, and it went into a very enjoyable RPG. I’ll look for it and post it round here.

VG news about the plotguide being used, that means there’ll be some hardwork involved.

boss coming.

I may be a little biased but I just think most Dubs are bad. They usually hire a bunch of Canadians that make the toughest characters sound like Michael J. Fox (no offense to Canadians! If you are from Canada and have a tough voice I beg you to start Voice Acting today!) and they don’t even bother to watch the Japanese Versions of the Anime for the most part and pronounce everything wrong. I just watched Rurouni Kenshin Reflection in English with a friend because that’s his preference. I kept hearing “ToKeegeewa” or whatever when they couldn’t even pronounce Tokugawa. Anyone whose watched Kenshin once can pronounce this word. Sheesh. Yah, theat DBZ Dub takes the prize as one of the worst Dubbing jobs of all time. Super Sayin’ and Ka May Ha May ya? If your gonna change all the Music, at least come up with more than 2 songs for christs sake.

What makes the SF2 Dub even worse is that they made it fit the screen instead of being letter boxed. Not only did they do some cheesey screen shifting to fit Ryu and Psycho Ken in the one shot at the end, they took Gouki right out of the movie so there are still people who think Gouki wasn’t in it! Though I hear the New DVD is letterboxed, at least.

The thing with me is that if they want to make changes with a Dub that’s well and fine, but at least release a Subtitled Version as well. I remember Manga Video a while back was talking about releasing a Subtitled version, but either it did not come out or was poorly distributed and never reached New York so I don’t have it. As far as the New DVD SF2 Movie out now, no where on the Box does it advertise that you can watch it with Subtitles in Japanese. Sometimes you can and it’s not mentioned on the Box, but I don’t know anyone who brought the new DVD, so I dunno.

I have the SF2 Movie Subtitled via Bootleg Tapes and a Bootleg DVD Rom. Stuff like this I usually toss out when I get the official Copy. I try to support the things I like so I’m really hoping that the Movie that comes with SF2 for the U.S. version lets me watch it Subtitled, or someone just releases a Sub.

The way Censorship is running now, I wonder if it will be the “kidified” version or appear at all on the Game because we all know the world will end if a little kid sees Chun-Li’s breasts.

What a long whiney rant. Must be Monday.

I’ll say sano

Which Kenshin dub are you complaining about the TV or the OVA?

And to the best of my knowledge only one group, Ocean, uses Canadian actors.

Most prefer US actors and most US VA’s have a background as stage actors.

I guess you’re talking about the dubbing that Irwin (a freaking toy company) did, cause I actually liked the dub that Pioneer did.

The only bad part about the Pioneer dub (to me) was that they only did 2 seasons, and they never (to my knowledge) released the uncut versions of the first two seasons.

What I think the Pioneer dub has got going for it

Pioneer Pros:

  • They used THX (or something like it) to digitaly remaster the episodes (and movies) they did.

  • Their voice actors vocal tones sounded ALOT closer to the original Japanese voice actors than probaly any dub Ive seen/heard.

  • Box art was made from actual DBZ pictures, or was the same box art as the Japanese releases.

  • They used the original soundtrack from the show and movies.

  • Some other stuff Im forgetting.

Irwin Cons:

  • The EXACT OPPOSITE of the above (UGH!)

OMG the IRWIN ones were SOOO AWFUL, I mean did anyone see the Trunks Special they dubbed, “darn those two” “darn it” and how about the fact all the OST had been replaced by hip hop songs? And this was the “uncut” version btw.

Oh yeah, I heard a rumor that the original dub voice actors finished dubbing the DBZ series in Canada, and the rest of the seasons were only released there, but does anyone know if this is true???

Sorry to go sooo off topic.

Kenshin second OVA Dub.

Well, Viz uses Canadian Actors but, they use Ocean Group too so… probably just venting in my rant. Sorry!

I used to prefer Dubs, but the more I saw the original Animes in Japanese with Subs the more I liked them.

The Ocean group is the Canadian group used by Pioneer for the first two years and the first three movies. Later on Kids Biz brought Ocean back to do more episodes of DBZ for a European version of the series, Me and Az have a history on this subject go to:

http://www.dbzoa.net to read more and learn more.

To be fair, Dubs I like… Hmm… I have a few issues with Disney that I won’t bring up here, but their Dubs of Miyazaki Films have been really good, of course they have the Money to hire Good professional Hollywood Actors. Even Kingdom Hearts has a good Dub.

Ninja Scroll Movie Dub was surprisingly good especially in it’s time.

Akira Dub the Second time around released about a year ago was really good, but they took the time and effort to get things right, pronounce things right and get the right actors. Wish everybody did.

Pokemon’s Dub is pretty good. Least they know not to change Pikachu’s voice.

Cowboy Bebop Movie Dub was pretty good.

SFZ Anime Dub wasn’t bad, they spliced it into a Movie removing one still picture of Ryu and of course no accent for anybody but it was pretty good. - See, another Street Fighter Related Post! snicker

And that’s about it, I think. Course I generally don’t watch Dubs nowadays.

Went to a japanese websit that has bios for every guy in final fight (including the bosses and thugs). It’s looks like it could be a fansite, so I’m not sure how reliable it is, but I checked some of their physical stats and hobbies and it looks reliable enough.

It says that Maki’s last name is Genryusai. Her backstory and physical stats are correct (ht: 169cm & wt: 52kg), but there are some additions. For one, it says something like she favors/likes manly men. the word guy is in there, but it doesn’t sound like she’s referring to THE Guy. Plus, it says she was involved in a motorcycle gang during her school days. It sounds like she was/is the leader. Her favorite food is Tapioca.

Nothing new to say 'bout Cody except that his favorite foods are spinach and milk, although i think milk’s already listed as one of his likes, right? (shrug).

Andore’s stats:
Height: 233cm (7’8")
Weight: 230kg (507 lbs.)

Carlos is described as nihilistic. It says that he gives off a cool impression, but he can be kind of stupid, occasionally. His favorite food is “Dust binzu” tacoes.

It says Sodom was/is(?) undefeated in underground pro wrestling (well, until he fought Guy if they’re referring to his stage in FF1). According to this website, his swords are named Muramasa, and not Masamune. Maybe my translator made a translating error, 'cuz I remember it being called “Masamune” as well. He likes Sushi and Geishas.

Belger’s bio says he was the chief of Mad Gear (duh!). It also says, “Although he was commander-in-chief of big business, the Mad Gear was being manipulated in Shadow”…Could they be referring to Retu? EDIT: Now that I think 'bout it, I think they meant Although he was a businessman, he was commanding the Mad Gear in secret.

Freddie (the Boss of stage 2 in FF2)
Height: 195cm
Weight: 185kg
Blood Type: O
His backstory is unchanged. He joined the Mad Gear after being discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. for fighting.

Philippe/Phillip (It’s spelled 2 different ways for some reason)
Height: 182cm
Weight: 67kg
Blood Type: Unknown
His backstory is unchanged

Bratken
Height: 205cm
Weight: 197kg
Blood Type: AB
His backstory is isn’t much different form the US version. He’s a big psycho lunatic who’s too big to control, so he’s kept in a prison when he isn’t needed.

Poison. Nothing new here. They mention that she’s a new half and becomes Hugo’s manager in the SF3 series.

Retu
Height: 225cm
Weight: 205kg
Blood Type: B
He’s responsible for reviving the Mad Gear…and that’s 'bout it.

Won Won (Boss of stage 1 in FF2)
Height: 225cm
Weight: 205kg
Blood type: A
His Japanese backstory is completely different from his backstory in the US version. Instead of a Chef gone bad, he’s a former sailor/mariner who closed the harbor neighborhood in Hong Kong. Apparently he’s involved with a local mafia called “108 dragon”. (shrug)

They also explain each character’s Final Fight Revenge backstory, but I didn’t bother to include them, 'cuz most of them are in the FAQ. I realize this is all pretty irrelevant, but I figured I’d post it incase Tiamat wants to add it to his FAQ.

I remember Sodom using the word ‘Hocho’ in FF1. Is that what his swords are, or is he misusing another Japanese word?

The thing about Maki being in a Motorcycle gang actually clears something up for me. In Masahiko Nakahira’s Sakura Ganbaru Manga, when Sakura finds Maki she asks about a man with a white headband. Maki reflects on a time when she had a white headband and she had said headband on and is dressed like a yazuka/Japanese Gangster in a flashback scene. In the translation of the Manga I printed out that TiamatRoar provided earlier via link the writer didn’t know what the flashback was about and thought it was a reference to Maki when she was training. Now, the Manga is not official but I don’t think Nakahira would retroactivly change Maki’s backstory. I’m going to have to double check everything I just said by checking out the Manga and the translation, but it’s at least starting to look like Maki was in fact a Gangster. Thanks for that Golden Dragon.

I have to say this the one thing i don’t like about the Plotguide is the stats for Bust, waist and Hip .

Double checked everything I said earlier. There was no mention in the Sakura Translation of the clothes representing when she was training, just me remembering things wrong. Anyway, this is from Muhammad Faidzal Zainal’s translation. It explains what Gangster Maki looks like alot better than I could in Masahiko Nakahira’s Manga. The following is a conversation between Sakura and Maki in Sakura Ganbaru.

Sakura - I just want to know if you’ve met someone else besides me that wears this white headband?

Maki - Headband? I used to wear a heaadband myself, (a picture of Maki squatting wearing a long coat with Kanji/Chinese Characters on it, holding a katana and wearing a headband herself, while two others are seen waist down with the same coat, another one squatting next to her, but his face was covered by the word balloons, does anybody know where this picture came from?)

Maki looks exactly like a Yakuza/Japanese Gangster, especially the way they are always depicted in Animes and Mangas. Reminiscent of how former Yakuza Sagara Sanosuke looks like from Rurouni Kenshin. I’m fairly sure that’s not a Katana but a wooden Sword as Yakuza are often depicted as having. Since the book is in Black and White and the Blade itself is white, you can’t really tell but if you know how Yakuza are often depicted you can be pretty sure.

Hey Golden Dragon. Thanks for the info! Appreciate it ^^ And thanks, Sano, for helping to confirm that the Maki gangster thing is probably true.

Sigh. Getting gamefaqs to actually upload the latest version of this thing is starting to be a real pain. Ah well. Gives me time to add in all that various Final Fight stuff.

Tiamat:
I’m honored to have my name up for consideration. My full name is Joshua “Clay” Zimmerman. If you can squeeze me in there, that would be cool. Having my name in print on something SF related would be too good!

Anyhoo, I’m glad to see that all of your hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Cheers!

Yer welcome, Sano & Tiamat. I found another website with complete bios of all the Muscle Bomber characters. I think it’s made by the same guys who made the Final Fight website. Okay, here we go.

The Astro
Main/Favorite Attack: Death Spiral, Pyramid Crush
Commander-in-chief of the illegal professional wrestling organization, BWA. His past is a mystery. His nickname is the brown spark. I think that’s a bad translation.

Aleksey Zalazof
Favorite/Main Attack: Sunset Splash, Sonic Fist
It says he’s from Moscow. His favorite food is piroshkis. Piroshkis are small Russian pastries filled with finely chopped meat or vegetables, baked or fried. He’s the son of a high russian bureaucrat/government official. He’s been good at wrestling since he was a child and received meritocracy/special ed. He has won many titles in sambo, karate, etc. and trains rigrously. He’s a friend/rival of Lucky Colt (Gunloc) and they trained together under Mike Haggar in Haggar’s gym. He hates when people don’t take wrestling seriously and regard it as a show. They also mention Aleksey’s cameo in Hugo’s ending. His nickname is the “Red Lion”.

Victor Ortega
He’s the founder of the CWA and its first champion. It says something about how he defeated the top-ranked wrestler, and t hat he reigns supreme as the best wrestler in the world. Then, he mysteriously dissappeared at the same time he truly became the strongest in the world. A little more than one year after his dissappearance, Astro challenged/invited him to participate in the “international blowout” (muscle bomber 2), so Ortega accepted and returned to the ring. His nickname is “The master of Muscle Bomber”.

El Stinger
Favorite/Main Attack(s): Screw Diver, Atomic Dive
He’s from Acapulco. His favorite food is tacos (how stereotypical is that?). It says something like he enjoys performing aerial moves or he’s proud of his aerial fighting style. He’s a cheerful pure latin wrestler. He has an apparent rivalry with Budo, who also uses a flashy wrestling style. His nickname translates to something like “The Acapulco Killer Bee”.

Kimala the Bouncer
Favorite/Main Attack: Giant Swing, Pancake Poison
His nickname is “The large whale which puts on airs roughly”. That’s obviously a bad translation. His favorite food is anything that contains alcohol. He used to be a bar bouncer, but was fired after beating a customer too severely. Kimala became a wrestler’s bodyguard after that, but someone (it could’ve been Kimala. I’m not sure) KO’d the wrestler and that’s when Kimala made his first appearance in the BWA. His weakness (or vice) is “IJIME”. I’m not sure what that is. He feels intense joy when he sees blood dripping from his opponents’ wounds. He shows absolute obedience to the Astro.

The Wraith
Not much here. Plus, the translation doesn’t make any sense. He keeps countless snakes in his body, and…that’s 'bout all I could make out. I’ll post the the translation here:

“As for the appearance which extends the nail with the stoop, from the head the feather it weaves the lobe, the feeling the wrestler compared to such as the magic teacher.
Raising the countless snake in the body, it is used as a weapon during a game.”

(shrugs).

Sheep the Royal
Favorite/Main Attack(s): Shotgun Stab, Tornado Slam
His favorite food is calf meat. I hope they’re referring to a baby cow and not the part of a human leg. Anyway, he was a famous football player in america, but was kicked out after being too violent so he got into professional wrestling. Then, there’s something about how he got his nickname. It has to do with killing his opponents. He’s from Melbourne, Australia.

Jessica Haggar
Age: 18
Height: 165cm
Weight 50kg
3 sizes: B90 W58 H88
Favorite/Attacks: Eyeliner attack, Nice Body
Nope, this isn’t a typo. Jessica has her own bio. She’s listed as a sub-character. She’s described as a pure person with a gentle character. Many guys hit on her because of her good looks. Her nickname is “Pretty Doll”.

Titan the Great
Favorite/Main Attacks: Titan Breaker, Shock Wave
His nickname is “The Strongest Last Giant”. He’s from Wigan, England. His favorite food is Darjeeling. It’s a fine variety of black tea grown especially in the northern part of India. He’s the large-sized newcomer of the CWA. He weighed over 5,000 grams at birth and stood over 6’3" by the time he graduated from elementary school. He joined pro wrestling in order to fully utilize his huge body. They also mention the tag-team he formed with Birdie, his best friend and rival.

Must sleep. I’ll post the rest of the bios tommorrow. Peace out…

Hmm,… here are some interesting new arcade flyers… well, I don’t know exactly how long they’ve been around on that site, but they’re called “Secret Files” for some reason. Though, I am familiar with some of the thumbnail images. Sorry if this is old stuff; just thought they might be useful.

SF3: NG

SF3: SI

Rival Schools
http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=thumbs&id=3561

Dude, I LOVE secret files. I’ve seen the SFZ2 one before, but the rest are brand new to me. Thanks a lot, GF2. Okay, now for part 2 of the Muscle Bomber bios…

Harry Hicks
Age: 31
Height: 170cm
weight: 70kg
Birthplace: San Francisco, CA
Favorite Food: Sushi
Proud/Special Skill: Accurate unequaled refereeing
Main/Favorite Attack: Counting to 3 with lightning speed
Harry Hicks is the referee in the Muscle Bomber Series. He makes the most accurate judgements (I guess they main he always makes good calls during a match) and is very trustworthy/reliable. Because of this, the fans love him. He’s listed as a sub-character.

Black Widow
Her nickname is something like “Metal Bull Strike”. That’s a bad translation. She’s from Hannover, Germany. For those who don’t know, Hannover’s a port city in northwestern Germany. Not much elso to say here. They go on about her lean (and slightly muscular) body and how her opponents are manipulated by her flexibility. They mention her cameo in Hugo’s ending.

Freak
Nickname: Intelligent Monkey
Age: 8
Height: 60cm
Weight: 9kg
Special move: Float?
Freak is Missing IQ Gomes’ pet monkey. He’s listed as a sub-character. It says something like he lives in the jungle with his siblings/brothers and Gomes. Then it says he has an IQ of 200 or more (he’s probably smarter than Gomes) and that he almost/mostly understands human language. The last line says something about how he is Gomes’s second. Maybe they mean he’s Gomes’ partner/sidekick?

Mike “Macho” Haggar
Favorite/Main attacks: Screw Pile Driver, Double Lariat
His nickname is “Mayor”. He’s from Manhattan, NY. The first line mentions his past as a street fighter and that he was/is the mayor of metro city. It goes on to say that he puts a lot of effort/power into maintaining the town’s public order and keeping the peace. In that same sentence it mentions his natural sense of justic and power. Then he (whoever wrote this) mentions that he/she thinks Final Fight 1 takes place after Muscle Bomber, storyline-wise. Then they mention Haggar’s cameo in Hugo’s ending.

Mysterious Budo
Favorite/Main Attacks: Senbuukyaku, Blood Wind Blade
His nickname translates to something like “The Demon of Sobriety”. These are all official nicknames by the way. I first saw them on the SMB arcade flyers. Budo is from Kamakura, Japan. It says his flashy appearance (his costume and make-up) excites audiences. He went on a journey overseas to train/aquire greater skill and painted his face at the request of a local promoter. The next line says something like “The time he spent overseas influenced his appearance and he started talking like characters out of a historical play/drama.” Budo’s involved in a rivalry/opposition with El Stinger, who uses the same style as him. His favorite food is sweet rice paste.

“Missing IQ” Gomes
Favorite/Main Attacks: Jungle Panic, Hurricane Stomp
His nickname translates to something like “The Intelligence which is lost”. That’s obviously a bad translation. His favorite food is fried chicken. He lived peacefully with the monkeys, until he was discovered and his athletic ability was evaluated. Soon afterwards, he debuted as a wrestler. Gomes is usually calm/quiet, but when he enters the ring, his instincts take over and he goes wild. Since he knows very little human language, he studies it by watching cartoons.

Lucky Colt
Favorite/Main Attacks: Sunset Splash, Sonic Fist
His nickname is “The Florida Wild Horse”. He’s from Miami Beach, Florida. His favorite food is popcorn. He used to train with Zalazof (under Mike Haggar), his close friend and rival. Unlike Zalazof, he has a short-temper and can be a hot-head. Whenever he approaches/hits on Haggar’s daughter, she ignores him. They also mention his cameo in Hugo’s ending.

Rip Saber
His nickname translates to the “Pioneer of Hell”. He’s the wrestler who came from the battlefield. The rest of the translation doesn’t make any sense. I’ll post it here.

“Calm, no matter cowardly hand [ what ] it may ask professional wrestling for fighting [ which risked life and death ] and may use.
The core fan is gained by a weapon attack and strange action.”

Cool beans. Thanks again, Golden Dragon, for the info ^^ Some clarifications on Slammasters is always nice, given the little info I have about them and Capcom of America’s complete changing of lots of that game’s facts. Sweet!

Secret fliers are things that Capcom gave out to Capcom fanclub members or something like that, I believe. Wow, though, a lot of these ARE really interesting.

Hey! Some actual Juni Juli art! So some of it DOES exist! Still nothing of the other Dolls, though :frowning: …Juli smokes? :wtf:

http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=flyer&id=3558&image=4

Hey, they have SF1 Birdie with SFA Birdie, then SF1 Mike with SF1 Balrog/Bison. :stuck_out_tongue: Heh, that pic even has those two random people in the SF2 intro where the guy in the white shirt punches the other guy.

Though anyone know what’s up with the monitor cyborg or whoever that guy is with the metal plate over his eye in that pic? (this is an NG art and thus probably before Q). He’s different from the scarred eyes guy with all the weird different costumes that’s a member of Shadaloo in that SFEternal page with the Shadaloo base pic, but he also seems to wear a bunch of costumes so he can observe things…

Some of those rejected designs for Rival Schools and SF3 were really oogly

Wow. Judging by the “I want you to realize how I feel about you” art, Patricia apparently is in love with Alex. I didn’t think that to be the case, since she’s like… only twelve or so, but apparently…

Nude Oro is disturbing. And chibi Gill in thong hugging Urien in thong is wierd

these look pretty funny:

http://www.arcadeflyers.com/?page=flyerdb&subpage=flyer&id=3564&image=4

No problem, Tiamat. The only thing I found weird about that website was that every character had a one year age difference when compared to their ages according to your FAQ, but the ages you listed are probably correct, considering you atleast saw them printed on paper. Despite the ages, their physical stats are in sync with the ones you listed in your FAQ. I know they’re correct becuz the physical stats are shown on the SMB arcade flyers.
Btw, the monitor cyborgs in that arcade flyer are from the SF2 anime.
I just got done editing/adding all the Muscle Bomber bios, so I’ll repost them here in one piece.
