I was under the impression that was kind of a ‘joke’ ending and a bit of embellishment on SNK’s part.
The book was written in the late eighties, and their theory was that the brain is shaped early in the development by hormones in different phases. If hormones aren’t available at the right time, some things might go wrong. It’s widely known that many medicines and drugs cause hormone disruptions which might (my theory) cause all these modern mental deficiencies like DAMP and ADHD. You can’t do much about how your brain is wired.
Anyway, this is interesting, but we’d better get back to the topic.
GF2 - Lots of excellent points. I’m assuming your using McCall’s name for an example because he’s not Gay, just an outside observer who went to Jail and turned his life around to become a Reporter for the Washington Post. I suppose I’m to much of a Homophobe to continue the argument much further.
Some friends dragged me to a Gay Bar last week, since one of our friends is Gay. Suffice it to say, I was holding my Girlfriend’s hand extra hard and after one Drink I got the Hell out of there and waited outside for everybody across the Street for a half hour! My friends applauded me for at least entering but that won’t happen again!
Oh drat, sorry. I thought that book was McCall’s autobiography, or something.
A straight person being uncomfortable in a gay bar is perfectly justifiable. If you are a straight man, then you aren’t supposed to be attracted to men, nor are you supposed to want sex with them, after all. Course, one wonders if it works in vice-versa…

Subject: Street Fighter Timeline
Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2003 17:54:24 -0500
Hey there, Recently, Living Room Games has gotten the rights to do a new (better) roleplaying system for the street fighter universe (Including final fightand rival schools), and I’ve been given the job of making the timeline flow into something that’s both canon and allows players to jump in and use different parts of the timeline as a setting. I’d really like permission to use some of your conjecture to help things flow a little better, and site you as a reference in the book.
I look foward to hearing your reply,
Randy Navarro
Continuity Editor, Living Room Games.
Er… I hope no one really minds this. But Randy also told me that if I wanted to include contributors’ names in the citation, he could only have up to three. So… I figured I should at least tell him to give a special thanks to Saiki, too, but I don’t think I ever got Saiki’s name. …would “Saiki” be good enough or…? I dunno
Alas, more hints but no confirmation on if Capcom actually really does consider RS to be in the same continuity as SF. Ah well.
Udoneko (Erik Ko) could probaly find this out, since they are always talking to Capcom of Japan, about the storylines and such.
Although Capcom would of probaly said the two universes (RS & SF) would of no doubt coexisted together if UDON got the rights to both RS & SF.
It kinda sucks that one company (UDON) only got the rights to one of Capcom’s most popular titles (SF) while another company (Dreamwave) basicly got all of Capcom’s other big name titles (MegaMan, Devil May Cry, Darkstalkers, Maximo, Rival Schools)
I already asked Udoneko. He said he didn’t know, and since RS was out of his jurisdiction, he didn’t ask.
Cool. At least that should avoid the debacle of Shotokan Karate, Ler Drit, Capoeira and other stupidity of the WW game. Unless Capcom Fucking USA forces them to use the renamings just like they forced Udon.
Now, I have to ask myself if I belong in that list ^_^. Would be cool to be named in a SF RPG… so far I’ve only been able to put my review score on the sticker of Dark Chronicle…
Kinda cool that my name will be listed in a SF RPG:D
TiamatRoar - Congratulations! You deserve this!
As for the three people you should name, Saiki of course, also Clay and Siegfried. Of course, actually doing the Plot Guide I’m sure you have a better idea of which 3 to choose but that’s my take on it.
Chances are you’ll get to provide a Link for the Plot Guide in the credits seeing as how that’s probably how they found you. The rest of us are thanked there and I can only speak for myself when I say that’s an honor in itself.
I bet lots of people will look at Saiki’s name and say: “Yeah, but what’s his REAL name?”
In any case, you’d better have the nicknames there as well, like Yoshimitsu “Saiki” Suzuki, that should clear that thing up. Also, it isn’t much of a credit otherwise since you are mostly known by your nickname.
What kind of time frame are we talking about here? One year? If they only got the license now, it might take a while…
Okay, I’ll ask for Saiki, Siegfried, myself, and… er, I’m not sure if the ‘we can only allow three names’ thing includes my own name or not But… I think it does, since he said “I can’t promise more than three, total”. So… er, Clay or Siegfried?
And I don’t know Clay’s full name.
I imagine the thing’s just starting in development. They must still working on a lot of the storyline details if they only just now asked me if they could use the plot guide as a source.
…er, hey Sieg, what was your full name again? I think I have the first name but don’t think I have the last (or I don’t remember it).
Mikael Sundberg
It will be interesting to see this. I just hope the artwork is better than the SF Storytelling Game’s…
To celebrate the good news, here’s an old article from Issue #4 of the short lived “Game On! USA” Magazine that dates back to 1996 detailing the old White Wolf RPG!
ROLE-PLAYIN’ IN THE STREETS
by James L. Alsup
"OK… You’ve thrilled to the adventures of Ken and Ryu in the original Street Fighter. You’ve helped topple Bison and his Shadowlaw organization in the numerous Street Fighter II incarnations. You’ve even had a few knock down drag outs with Sodom and Birdie in Street Fighter Alpha.
"But, have you ever wondered how Guile gets his hair to be so spiky? Have you ever wanted to go shopping for a new sports car with Ken? Well, the folks at White Wolf have something for you. It’s called Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game.
"They sent a copy to Game On! USA, and we decided to try it out. We didn’t want to give it any old test. I put together a knock-down, drag-out, in-your-face-anime adventure with idol singers, demons from another dimension, and cute little pets. I got a group of guys together during finals week, and we played, with the help of a little pizza and a LOT of caffiene.
"I won’t bore you with the details of character generation. Suffice it to say, I was liberal with my 3 players. I let them create characters with skill ratings high enough to face the likes of Bison, Vega, Sagat, and Balrog. They chose the names Knight, Balk, and Larson. Knight was a drifting kung-fu fighter, Balk was an intellectual who used the fighting style of Blanka, and Larson was a Muay Thai Kickboxing movie star. These three were Interpol agents charged with protecting a singer, Miss Lynn Apple and her per Ryo-Oh-P-Chan, from Bison’s goons. Bison needed her to activate his new sonic weapon. Our three heroes were her protection, along with Chun-Li and Guile.
"At the concert, Bison and his henchmen, Vega, Sagat, Balrog and Zangief, made their move. The fight started in the wings, but quickly spilled onto the stage. Balk, Knight, and Larson quickly eliminated Zangief and Balrog, but had a tougher time against Vega and Sagat. That’s when Bison showed up. Our heroes fought valiantly, but the power of the Psycho Crusher proved to be too much for them. Bison and his men took Lynn Apple just as Chun-Li and Guile arrived. However, with the help of Ryo-Oh-P-Chan, they trailed them to a remote part of the desert. Lynn Apple was chained to a large machine. She began to sing the song “Stage Fright.” A pentagram formed on the ground, and a large demon rose from it. Unfortunately, Bison was unable to control the beast, and he started attacking eveyone. All looked lost until Balk told Lynn Apple to sing her hit “Do you Remember Love?” She did, and the beast was vanquished. Our heroes destroyed the machine, and they all lived happily ever after.
"This game took us almost 5 hours to complete. We all had fun, but were tired at the end. I asked the players if they liked the RPG.
“Yeah,” Knight responded. “It was pretty cool.”
“I thought so, too,” Larson added.
"Would they prefer Street Fighter: The Storytelling Game to the video games?
“Hell no! Are you kidding,” Balk added. “I’d take the video game any day.” - End of Article.
On Second thought, reminding people of this horrible RPG that stated Ryu was Half German may not be the best way to celebrate the good news, but if this much fun could be had with that piece of junk, just imagine an RPG that followed the actual Canon!
well I based my nick off my real name.
My real name is Charles Parker though.
Hey, anyone read this yet? It’s very interesting; it’s got this historical explanation behind Ryu and Sagat’s designs.
That’s a sad story. I wonder who would have won that fight?
It would be very interesting if Capcom had the foresight to end the Ryu/Sagat rivalry that way. What if Sagat was gunned down by some common thug right before a fight with Ryu? In a way, that sucks, but then you get the permanent “Legend” aura around you for as long as you are remembered.
Tiamat: It’s about time, congratulations! Maybe this will get the real story more influence in the states…haha, what am I saying?
Saiki, why do you share the names of two ninjas?
EDIT: Sano, if you happen across anymore obscure SF EX information, don’t hesitate to PM me, thanks!
Donkus - No problem. I don’t hear a lot of SF EX News nowadays, but I’ll be sure to send you a PM whenever I do.
GF2 - That’s really interesting. Too busy to read the whole article now but I definitly will later on.
So, the new SF2 is, SF2 Chronicles (like Vampire Chronicles) more or less? Happy and Sad at the same time. Hopefully the U.S. version will give us the SF2 Animated Movie in Japanese with Subtitles at least as an option. The U.S. Dub is really bad.
I thought the US dub was fine, not exceptionally thrilled they replaced the soundtrack but it wasn’t horrible or anything. I’ve heard worse ==>Funiball Z.
I have a question, was there ever anymore written about the philosophy that Gouken taught Ryu and Ken? I know he used moves from ‘pure’ Ansatsuken’ but Saiki said that the way ki was channelled was different.
I know Ansatsuken moves were designed to instantly defeat an oppenent in one blow and I was wondering what differences are there now between it and the version, Ryu and Ken practice.
