This is strictly a fan fiction question. If Ryu actually went and trained under Oro after Third Strike what types of techniques do you think that he might gain. It might be Ki manipulation or new moves. I would just like to know what you guys think. Holla

Go against us and you DIE!!!..Simple as that.

I would guess the Ability to levatate his surroundings to a smaller degree than Oro, and a smaller version of Oro’s Fireball that he pulls out of his mind. And hopefully, Oro will be dead by SF4 so Ryu will be the succesor.

I hope Capcom doesn’t drop the ball on this one in SF4 and gives Ryu some Oro inspired moves, and if Ken’s in SF4, he should get some new moves so he can keep up!

AGREED! And I’m wishing they’d scrap Sean and keep Makoto in there too. She can have bigger interactions wtih Ryu, if not go back to the original long lost brother-and-sister idea.

There’s a lot of cool stuff Capcom could do and still explore with their characters (and I mean that in no fanboy way whatsoever. I seriously think they’ve left a lot of different dimensions that could be really something if looked into, but I’ve already ranted in depth about that in the original Warrior’s Tales thread), but maybe I’m just being cynical when I say I highly doubt they’ll ever do any of it :frowning:

I think Ryu’s ability to use ki itself would probably be greatly increased after studying with Oro but how much is anyone’s guess.

I think he could levitate some small objects or give a good push.

He probably wouldn’t be able to pull fireballs from his mind like Oro does since that’s a different method of channeling ki then the one he uses.

Training with Oro would probably elevate his concentration and allow him to pack more of a ‘punch’ into his Hadokens and other attacks.

It’s not a method of channeling ki. The Yagyou-Dama’s just an illusion. Oro states this in one of his Second Impact win-quotes after a Super Art finish.

This is sort of irrelevant to the subject at hand, but it’s still kinda’ interesting.

The Gamest special issue called “All Capcom 1991” (published in 1992) states/mentions that Retsu’s a Japanese monk who practices the Shaolin style. Another source called “The Complete File Street Fighter II”, published by Asahi in 1992, also supports this claim.

I also found out that ‘Shorinji’ is the Japanese pronounciation of the Chinese characters for ‘Shaolin Temple’. Interesting.

Didn’t we reach that conclusion about Retsu like 1000 posts ago?

Anyway, the latest rumour is that Capcom are planning a completely new Street Fighter game, while working on a sequel to one of their series. This is in the latest Dorimaga, according to a source at (sigh) IGN. If this is true, we’re in for a treat!

Can’t wait until E3. We’ll probably learn more then.

I’m betting it’s SF4 and a SF “Beta”, or something similar to it that goes inbetween 2 and 3. I can’t think of any other project that makes sense. It would explain a whole lot of what happens during that five-year time gap, and blending the casts from both series would be really interesting as it’d be more like a dream match in itself, only canon.

It’d better not be another Vs. game they’re concurrently planning with SF4, and they sure as hell better not let SF4 get booted because of the other game’s popularity.

Heh, we don’t need a magazine to figure out that Capcom is planning something for Street Fighter. Their remarks about Street Fighter in those articles about the upcoming Street Fighter comic are very indicative that they’re planning something.

Yeah! Looks like all signs are pointing towards SF4!

I have a Love/Hate thing going on with the idea of Capcom making a Game between SF2 and SF3. I would only like it if it would shed light on things, but knowing Capcom it will further mess up their continuity, and they won’t do half as good a job as SNK/Playmore did with Neo Blood, though that game would of made more sense if Kyo had the High School outfit instead of the one he wears in the Nests Storylines. I’d rather Capcom just move forward, since they went out of their way to tie in the Alpha Series concretely with SF2 Revival. While I love their other in between games, the Alpha Series, it did throw a lot of the SF continuity to the winds and caused lots of confusion.

Honestly, it’s hard for me to think of Prequels and in Between Games/Stories that don’t mess up continuity. Best examples of Prequels that don’t mess things up much is Wolverine’s Origin and Kenshin’s Origin in the Manga. But even Kenshin’s Origin is off as he’s wearing those arm guards when they show his match with Saito the second time and not the first. Slight, yes. But still off.

Neo Blood’s just a dream match. It never happened. Kyo’s not even supposed to be fighting in '98 because he was captured by NESTS right after the Orochi battle.

Sheesh, how confusing. I thought I heard from a magazine that it was canon, then I heard that was proven false, then by now, I kinda don’t know what’s going on with Neoblood. Maybe SNK retroactively change the whole capture Kyo thing. Or… I dunno. Now I’m going off topic since there’s an SNK story thread :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually wasn’t sure if it was Canon myself, it would make sense if it was, seeing how South Town plays a big part in the Nests Storylines it would make sense for Geese to be a KOF Boss one more time, but I guess that’s where the Real Bout Game (2, right?) comes in where Geese dies. That and there was no KOF Tourney in '98.

Of course, Kyo in the Nests Storyline Outfit throws things off, since in the next game there are two Kyo Clones and there’s a bit of shock value with Kyo apearing in a new outfit.

Ugh, I like Ryu! See! This Post is Street Fighter related…

To get back on topic some more :D,

I’ll wait for MMCafe to confirm this. IGN and magicbox are not enough as if they were worth something anyway.

What do you know? MMCafe did say something regarding this, and more quickly than I would’ve imagined! i love that site.

Interesting! I remember when SF3 first came out, and how I was kind of surprised that the characters remained in “Anime” style. While I didn’t mind this for SFA since the game was obviously influenced by the Animated Movie, I always thought that the regular SF series would remain with the realistic style of character designs displayed in the early drawings of the SF2 characters. Though, I was won over by the fluid Animation (especially after they added Chun-Li in Third Strike!) and forgot all about it. Since this is the “rumor” portion of the statement, I’ll just say that it would be interesting if Street Fighter went back to the realistic style. Imagine if they went all out and had the characters done in the style of the Slammasters character Designs (Done by the Fist of the North Star Artist)! That would really shake things up!

It’s interesting how you can see what Capcom’s designs were like and what they’ve become in the Animes. The SF2 Anime tries to be as real as possible with realistic Character Designs and Movements while the SFA Anime has straight up Anime style Character Designs (People with Purple and Red eyes, huge hands and huge feet like in SFA) and Anime style Movements!

As for the rest of the Post that was not a Rumor and straight from Capcom - I honestly think that after a bunch of SF2s, 3 Alpha Games and 3 SF3 Games if Capcom doesn’t make SF4 it’s really gonna piss people off. Now, after they make SF4, if they want to make a game that goes in between SF2 and SF3 I don’t have a problem with it as long as it doesn’t destroy continuity, which like I said before it probably will. Hell, a Game like this would be a nice place to resolve the Ryu/Sagat score so Sagat doesn’t have to take up anymore space in future SF Games. I like Sagat, but come on, Capcom. Resolve this fight already.

If the Game is not a Fighting Game and something completly different, like say, a game like Shenmue or the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Game for PS2, anything goes, and it wouldn’t have to be SF4, but a completly different SF Game that can take place whenever, during SF2 or after, or after SF3. This won’t bother me at all.

I honestly don’t know what’s Capcom’s problem counting up to Four. They’ve done it with the Megaman Games but can’t seem to do it with Street Fighter or Resident Evil. Well, least RE4 should come out sooner or later.

When you think about it…look at the release dates.

SF1, SF2, SFA, SF3, (upcoming…supposedly) SF4, SF?

Maybe the “sequel” game will be the in-betweener of SF3 and SF4 and NOT SF2-SF3.

But if it’s the in-betweener for SF2-SF3, I have a hunch that Remi’s father will be in it if only to resolve his storyline.

Looks like there was a crash and we lost the Last Page of this Thread. DOH!!!
