Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

A new Darkstalkers game is just on the drawing board at Capcom, its not certain that it will be made.

It is true that Bengus (one of Capcom’s long time artist and character creators, and creator of the Darkstalker series) did leave Capcom (along with Akiman) a few years back, but rumor has it that they will be hiring Bengus or have him work on it in someway if they (Capcom) decides to make another Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers game, since he’s the one who knows everything about the characters, stories, etc, etc.

I believe he had permision to use any SF character he desired, but he only wanted to use the ones from SF2, and he did at first, Capcom (or fans cant remember which) asked him to add Sakura in.

You see at first there was Street Fighter EX, then SFEX Plus, and then SFEX Plus A(lpha) so Sakura wasnt added until the final instalment of the game.

Garuda’s storyline tied in to the Satsu No Hadou, which was the “murderous intent” that made Akuma the way he is, and also created Evil Ryu.

The ending with Garuda, Akuma, and Evil Ryu, was just supposed to show that the three of them were a part of whole (evil energy)

Bengus created Darkstalkers???
It was Junichi Ohno, who was sent to Arika, that created the Darkstalker series.

I heard that it was Bengus who created the characters and story for Darkstalkers, but thats what I heard and thats what I go by.

I heard it from the same person who told me Akiman created Chun-Li, who has a signed picture of a Chun Li sketch that Akiman drew right in front of him, a picture that I have seen.

Bengus & Akiman have created just about every Capcom fighting game character, up until around the time before SFA3 and SF3 were created, but not much is known about either of the two men, like what their real names are or what they look like.

So in short I just go by what people tell me (within reason)

It’s obvious what Capcom could be doing for ‘Street Fighter 4.’ The one returning character, Ryu, will have Boss-like status above the other fighters. This can be assumed because Oro, a guy powerful enough to kill people with one arm, is training him in the ways of the Jedi… err… Martial Artist, thus explaining Ryu’s look… Ryu comes to visit Ken… Sparring match happens. Ryu beat Ken with his eyes closed(literally). Ryu then asks Ken to help find a worthy fighter to fight. Ken get the bright idea of 4th Street Fighter Tournament… Thus we got the next game, and the first Street Fighter Tournament held by a former Street Fighter Tournament Champion.

Hopefully, the fighters in Street Fighter 4 will have some connection to the earlier games. I mean the only guys in the SF3 series (besides the four returning fighters) who knew someone from the earlier games before the tournament were Sean, Yun, Yang, Hugo(Final Fight does count) and Q(who is implied).

(Note: I’m just making up stuff… This is not a gurentee on what will happen in Street Fighter 4, just my best guess, considering what we know)

I was talking about Junichi Onno as well. Vampire Savior was released some time after Akiman and Bengus left Capcom, hence their names show up nowhere in the ending credits. It seems that Darkstalkers can continue succesfully without Akiman and Bengus. And for those who don’t like Capcom’s new design team, I thought they did an excellent job designing Jedah, Lilith, Queen Bee and Bulleta/B.B. Hood. Of course, that may all be thanks to Junichi Onno’s influence.

I think Bengus and Akiman were still around when the first Vampire Savior game was released, since I have pictures of the VS characters drawn by Bengus, and I think the last game Akiman worked on was MSH vs SF, his name appears in the credits, but not Bengus, then again Bengus left Capcom before Akiman, so this must of been after Bengus left, and right before Akiman left.

I think Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers can continue successfully without Bengus & Akiman, Im just saying do it right, or get some fan input, like they did with the “create a darkstalker” contest, before actually make the game.

Oh and I dont think that anyone on the current Capcom Design Team, created any of the SF characters (except R.Mika) or any of the Darkstalkers (I hate how it has two names VS/DS) characters.

Characters I know of who were created by the current Capcom Design Team.

Rainbow Mika (Street Fighter Alpha 3)
Juli & Juni (Street Fighter Alpha 3)
Momo (Project Justice)
Kurow (Project Justice)
Yurika (Project Justice)
Ruby Heart (Marvel vs Capcom 2)
The new characters in the SF3 games (sortta)
All the new characters in Capcom Fighting All Stars (ugh!)

I mean none of those characters really became popular or beloved or developed a fanbase (with the exception of maybe Ibuki and Elena from SF3)

There have been some new characters to come out of Capcom that are cool, like Dante from Devil May Cry, but you have to remember there is a design team for fighting games, surrvival/horror games, RPG’s, etc, etc, so its not like they all stem from the same creators.

Hey, you forgot MVc2’s Amingo!!!

Well, I still like Capcom Artists then and now. An art team that can put out amazing art books (Or have others compile it) like Capcom Design Works can’t be all that bad. I like Shoei, Akiman, Bengus, Kinu Nishimura, Senra Kita, Harumaru - so I like old and new. But I’m a Capcom Groupie so I’m completely biased…

Oh yeah, Capcom has great artists, Im not disputting that, but the area they are lacking in is concept and character desigers.

I wish I had one of the Capcom design books, cause I love Capcom’s artwork.

Id kinda like Capcom to do what SNK does, which is let other artist or popular/famous artist in Japan create a character or characters for their games, which is one of the reasons why KOF has such a large cast of characters.

What, nobody likes the dolls? They seem to have some fans here in Shoryuken. But yeah, got to admit that most of the new characters aren’t very popular.

True. And I’ve got to say, I really like the new Megaman game with Zero as the main hero, as well as the challenge of fighting the newer and more difficult (but not impossible) bosses.

Yeah, I really like the new Zero design that Capcom came up with, he looks really cool, a bit darker too.

They (Capcom) should let the character designers who work on games like Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Breath of Fire, etc, etc design some new fighting game characters.

Yeah!

The only characters the new design team kinda created (based them on old Capcom Art) that I didn’t like was the cast of SF3, except for Elena, Alex (he kind of grew on me over time) and the twins. But I felt they did a much better job with Makoto, Remy, Q and Twelve who I like a lot.

As far as KOF Character Designs are concerned, lot of the caharacters seem to be just hangars sporting trendy clothes. I’d say the character that’s the most SFish in terms of being just “out there” is K9999, but he’s a total Tetsuo rip. Still like Capcom’s character designs more, old and new.

Guilty Gear Character Designs get lots of praise, but the more you know about Anime/Manga, the more you know how many characters were ripped off from other existing characters WAY MORE than SF or KOF. Where does inspiration end and rip off begin?

Not bashing either series as I love KOF and Guilty Gear. Just a Capcom fanboy’s point of view.

The only KOF character I like that didn’t come from some other game is Kula (mainly because she uses ice - I like ice characters). The rest hold no appeal for me. I like the characters of other SNK fighting games (Shamurai Shodown, Last Blade, Garou Densetsu series) much more.

Guilty Gear characters are all original characters, but since just about all of them give tribute to/inspired heavily from all sorts of things, they could hardly be called completely original.

And for something on-topic, what kind of 2d fighting will Capcom come out with next? All the current 2d fighting game series are apparently done.

What i like about Capcom is that their characters are very traditional and they stereotype well…

and Capcom has a reason why people wear gi or something because they fight and they use their uniform to fight…

Like watch UFC, do you see people fight in their jeans? or in their cool looking shirt and chainz?

and people could easily identify what Capcom characters are:
ex.
E. Honda - That sumo has big tits…

Hinako - What is this girl suppose to be?

Just a Capcom Fan

Nobody seems to like them because they’re just pallete swaps made from Cammy’s sprite. Cute and sexy doesn’t quite make a good design by itself, especially if you give them no personality of their own or deprive them of their right to have one in the storyline. It just shows a lack of creativity. Even Juni & Juli’s movelists don’t cut it for them as original. There’s hardly an exceptional change there.

I don’t mind the Dolls myself, though. I’d wager that if all 12 Dolls were playable and they were each completely different gameplay-wise, they’d become so popular that they’d immediately be the first charcaters people think about when they think of SFA3, with or without personality. If they didn’t make Yun and Yang play like seperate characters, they wouldn’t have developed a fanbase either. Now they’re instant classics.

Hey, you know what? If Capcom decides to end the line of 2D fighting games but keep the SF franchise alive, they could make a game that’s more oriented toward story allowing for more character development. And I think the Dolls would be a good subject for this. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s interested in knowing what happened to them after A3.

Are there any good Final Fight sites on the net? I can’t seem to find any, to think a very popular game like FF doesn’t have any fan based sites.

To all the Ultimate Video Rumble fans: the latest sections are now available together with the entire series at Fighter Mania:

Really random OT CFAS thingamabob. I generally would prefer another place to go to for news, but dunno where else to find it. And… you probably all know it, already, anyways. I haven’t been able to get online much, lately.

Someone informed me that the peice of artwork Stefan is basing this on is for upcoming Capcom Figurines. Me thinks Stefan is jumping the gun once again! Well, I hope at least Morrigan makes it into CFAS.

That is (like I’ve said everywhere else) most likely gashapon characters. I doubt Capcom would allow someone else to reveal such a huge lineup of CFAS characters all at once. It has Dante, Maximo, Gill, Hinata, Kyoko, Guy and others. Not likely.

Besides, it’s Capcom All-stars on that picture, not Capcom Fighting All-stars.
