I really really really wish they had changed the clothes of some of the returning characters ya know. Just so we’d have something exciting to look at. More new stuff.
The more I think about M. Bison’s return the more and more I wish that they just left him as some secret character and not, what looks like, a regular character. Like Shadoloo should be shit after SF2.
I hate that they have to pander to the people who only remember SF for SF2. That’s a real shame. It’s like they are shitting on the legacy of SF Alpha and SF III. I’ve gotten less excited about the game since they’ve included everyone in it from the get-go.
The characters didn’t change clothes specifically to pander to people who only remember SF for SF2 (or in Capcom’s words, to “preserve their iconicness”)
Another event that proves that SF2 happened before SF4: Blanka met his mom, as mentioned in his SF4 bio.
Man, I wish DC would stop pandering to fans when they made Superman in Superman Returns wear the same costume hes been wearing for 70 years.
BTW, it was the “legacy of SFIII” that resulted in no new SF games for NINE YEARS.

I think it makes sense that it not be a tournament, since that was what I pegged the game to be initially. But the storylines of Honda, Gief and Dhalsim make it seem like they’re competing in something.
re: Neo Shadaloo
I’m hoping, if it’s someone new and not Urien or Gill (I’d soon see Urien pulling the strings here than Gill himself), than I too would hope it would at least be someone working for Urien or Gill.
Definitely. Even if the game itself’s not a “legendary” competition like SF1, SF2, SF3; there can always be the smaller localized bouts within it that Honda, Zangief, and Dhalsim would enter, Dhalsim especially since he’ll only resort to fighting for the money he’d need for others. Blanka would fit into this category of entering smaller competitions as well, and of course Ryu on a grander scale than any of the others.
So it’s not a WW/World Fighting Championship class tournament, but something smaller in scale? Man, that’s gonna be confusing to as canon fold. Before, there were only two classifications for SF canon games: Tournament (SF1, SF2, 2I) and non-tournament (SFA2, SFA3, 3S). Now we’re going to have to add a third: Non-WFC/small scale tournament.
Anyway, if there’s a competition aspect, it means that someone is actively sponsoring it. New last boss most likely.
Shadaloo’s supposed to be operating in secret for this game, so whatever the scale is, the tournament has to be a fake if Bison’s actively participating.
now Bison old body was turn in flaming pile ashes right? now what if some one collect Bison’s flaming ashes and was able to find DNA samples, trust using the DNA samples to create a exact clone of Bison minus the Soul. then somehow empowers it with pyscho power.
edit: but how do you give a souless clone pyscho power?
Not the game itself being something smaller in scale, but within the timeframe of the game there’d be something smaller in scale. Think of Honda vs. Dhalsim in the SF2AM. Within any of the previous games, tournament or non but more comfortably non, you can have these smaller local brawls that may or may not have any connection to the grander scheme of events. The greatest example of these not-so-important set-ups is the Pan-American Fighting Championship.
In SF4, we don’t know yet if Shadaloo’s operating at all. Bison’s and Balrog’s bios indicate that it’s still rubble, and Vega’s says that his fate is presently contrary to Shadaloo’s.
Smaller brawls are one thing. But there has to be some sort of endgoal in place. Dhalsim especially, is fighting towards something that earns him prize money for his village. Then again, I suppose he could win money on a per bout basis and just keep going until he gets enough. But surely Honda and Gief would need some sort of formal competition format in order to achieve their goals - I can’t see how winning random fights would amount to much respect for their respective purposes.
Sagatryu:
Except for the reclaiming DNA samples from ashes bit (can’t be done actually), I imagine that’s essentially what happened: SFIV Bison = soulless* clone of the original Bison. At least, that’s the way I would have done it. The DNA wold be easy to get, because, besides possibly scraping a sequence from Cammy, I’m sure there would be numerous samples held by Shadaloo scientists in various places.
Now, exactly what a soulless clone means in SF mythology, I don’t know. Gameplay-wise, he would look, sound, move, and act like regular Bison (we already know they got his usual voice actor). But story-wise, even I’m not sure how he’s supposed to be represented. As a living zombie/golem? Non-sentient and under remote control by someone else? No difference at all, just a technicality?
even with his body being turn into ashes , the metal parts he wears should still be completely intact. the only way to get rid of those is to liquified them, since metal can not be turn into ashes by heat.
Shadaloo reduced to rubble might just indicate it’s not as powerful as the year prior. Their bases could’ve been destroyed along with their weapons and armaments, and their criminal activities could’ve been halted, but they could still have just enough resources to stage another tournament. Chun-Li’s and Guile’s bios say they’re entering because they suspect Shadaloo’s behind all the incidents that have been occuring. And Abel’s says he wants to track down the remaining members.
Making story for a game that occurs in between games is troublesome. One thing they had damn well better explain is why Vega’s henchmen, especially Sagat, do not appear in SF3. Maybe they’ll die in this version?
Too bad this isn’t going to be a sequel to 3S. I guess we can just take Gill’s ending as canon until Capcom overrides it?
and that means being a soulless clone means his other control?or still have a should but not the original vega soul itself but being a new entity with vega powers?
Say have you guys seen this? Crayfish saved information from SRK before the big crash of 2003. You can see the original Warrior’s Fate (Tales) thread here, where Saiki met TiamatRoar and everything started! :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:
Sure, it’s just that the formal competition doesn’t have to be SF4 itself.
Possible as well. Hopefully we’ll learn for sure.
Sagat isn’t what you’d call one of Vega’s henchmen anymore. For the rest, they didn’t appear most likely because Gill didn’t care to pull them into the fray.
Pretty much.
Crayfish made a post here about it prior to my birthday.
Man, I have no idea what Shakuentsu said up there. It’s almost Regal Sin like in its incomprehensableness. >:|
Quick query: Does anyone know if the Dark Stalker chaarcters have official fighting styles?
Vasili:
Huh. So perhaps half the characters are competing in this smaller scale tournament - let’s call it “!WFC” (Not World Fighting Championships) - and the rest are doing their thing? And the story setting that is SFIV is essentially a combination of tournament a la SF1/2/3 and non-tournament a la Alpha games? Does that sound reasonable?
I think people talking about a soulless Bison are getting ahead of themselves. I’d wait for the actual game release or some kind of confirmation that there’s someone controlling this clone before heavily speculating about that (though, considering how they actually bothered to confirm that it’s a cloned body, I’m expecting that to be the route taken, anyway).
