Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

I’m guessing it’s gonna be an epilogue for Street Fighter II, were it takes place 1 year after the tournament. Similiar to how Third Strike takes place one year after the Third World Warrior Tournament or how Alpha 2 takes place after the second world warrior tournament. I just hope it does not turn into a stupid plot twist like Alpha 3 did. [E.G. Dolls and shit]. Capcom is most likely saving the plot of Street Fighter 3 for last.

Capcom may have retconned single games, but they haven’t done that to a whole series that I know of (unless you count Mega Man X, but that’s still debatable). I don’t think they’re oblivious to the fact that people who play these games keep up with their storylines, whether they insist on that lone continuity crap or not.

Initial releases tend to be broke, so assuming there’s more than one SF4 coming, it’d be wise if they used the “New Beginning” (or its rehash) to explain what the big deal is with SF3, and have the last game be the aftermath since nothing in 3S even matters. That way you get a nice mix of SF2-3 characters with some new ones.

That wasn’t really a plot twist; it was blanks filled in.

Didn’t Alpha 3 retconn somethings that were established by Street Fighter II. Namely events that took place prior to the second world warrior tournament?

It also added alot of stupid uneccessary for a good amount of the cast, IMO with Nash and Chun li being the exception. I think the plot was okay when the arcade version came out, but then they started adding alot of uneccessary people which affected the plot in a bad way.

Ah, you mean when they pulled in people like Yun & Ingrid? Yeah I admit they were unnecessary. Eagle and Maki I suppose not so much. Same goes for Fei Long and Dee Jay since they didn’t impact the plots much from the very beginning anyway. T. Hawk was a bit of a retcon but not so much from reading his original SSF2 backstory. Guile’s story was somewhat rewritten, and it ended up with him fighting for a slightly nobler cause in Revival. SnH Ryu remains a what-if, so not much there except a confirmation in his ending from points already started and made in Zero 2.

Sagat was retconned to no longer being Vega’s shi-ten-oh, however that flat out made his SF2 Dash accounts make more sense, and that started in Zero 2 as well. Blanka a little bit of rewrite with his speech, and Bison a little in terms of heightened boxing rank when Vega recruited him into Shadoloo. One final major retcon responsible by Zero 3 is the 4-year gap from SF1 to SF2 extended to 6 years.

Weren’t those particular retcons done in Alpha 2?
I enjoyed the canon revisions of Alpha 2, since it did not add crap like Alpha 3.

Sagat I already said it started in Zero 2, but by Zero 3 he flatly refuses Vega’s requests to recruit into Shadoloo, so by then it’s no longer a “not sure if I’ll return to him as he suggested” but a “hell no I’m not joining after what he did to Ryu” matter in his mind.
Blanka and Bison definitely no, since they weren’t playable in the Zero series until Zero 3.

Oh, also one more retcon Zero 3’s responsible for, Vega’s post-SF2 fate is death by Gouki’s SGS, illustrated in Adon’s ending, and I believe that should be all of them.

Not some things, almost everything. There’s not point for SFII to have happened unless it happens in a completely different way. Look at the details, Blanka is calle Jimmy but he finds out his name is Jimmy in SFII. Why would Zangief and the rest of the gang be invited to the tournament, if Vega already knows who they are and just want to fight him? He wanted to have the strongest fighters battling each other, there’s no point for that anymore unless all the people who destroyed his stupid rediculous machine also happen to be the strongest fighters in the world, which would be a big coincidence and then his reasons for having the tournament would still be completely different from the original SFII. And so on and so on, there’s probably not a single character but Dee Jay who’s story doesn’t have to be changed. Of course with Chun-Li it started in Z1 and 2 and Nash is like Kenny and dies in every game’s ending like he’s expected to. But really what is supposed to happen in SFII if they all already know each other? That screws up the whole story. Imagine a movie about SFII that respects SFZ3. Not much going on there. Everybody’s like “hey you’re the guy that destroyed that machine with me, remember?”. Wow very entertaining.

Sanon Castlevaina 3: Dracula’s Curse is a pequal and it takes place in 1476 A.D. and was release after Castlevaina , and Castlevaina 2: simon’s quest.

Yeah, I wish they stucked to the Alpha 2 formula. Since that actually added depth to the story versus Alpha 3.

Unfortunately I’ve been unable to confirm Saiki’s statement that SF2 became a private-invitation event, which Udon followed in its story. Only Fei Long received an invitation.

Udon is going to be making a Street Fighter III comic line! I’m so excited!

Wouldn’t make more sence if it was not a private-invitaion event. Then all the strongest fighters of an open tournament would also happen to be the ones who played an important role in SFZ3’s plot. They all would meet again, which means they would have different reasons to take part in SFII and the relations would be different.
It just doesn’t work and my guess is that while working on SFZ3 they made the “each game in ints universe” decision because no matter how you turn it, there’s just no way, all 17 characters are part of both plots, especially not the ones with less importance like Blanka, Zangief and Honda.

@Scissorman: Are you talking about Street Fighter III: Ryu Final or something new ?

Something new completely done by Udon.

Yeah they announced it at the NY anime and manga con I attended!

I’m not sure if it’s on that link and I’m way beyond tired to double check right now, but at the con Zub said that they will feature characters like Guile and Cammy in the background of the SF3 comic so to speak, so we can see what they are up to at the time. It won’t be the same Guile and Cammy, they will look older and we will be able to see what they will look like at the time. It was an idea that they spoke to Capcom about and they liked it. :lovin:

I talked to Omar Dogan at the con about him using Skullomania in the SF Legends Sakura comic, because in GN of that series Skullomania even has a bio in the back of the book claiming that it is in fact him and not some guy just wearing his mask in his cameo. He said that Capcom let it slide even though they do not have the rights to Skullomania. In the Art of Capcom there is an image of Skullomania and Shadowgeist that wound up in there kind of accidentally, Capcom was really suprised to see it. But again they let it slyde and smoothed things over with Arika.

Well at the very least for myself this clears up something someone told me before that Capcom owned the rights to Skullomania and only Skullo because either Edayan or Akiman designed him, now I know that’s not true. It’s something I heard a while back at the Capcom boards from a member but I never mentioned it since I wasn’t sure. Anyway, not true. Capcom owns no one from SF EX… Just in case someone was doubting that still… Whoa I really am useless sometimes huh… ack best I can do for some info…

I got Omar Dogan to draw Saya from Namco x Capcom and Blair from SF EX! Joe NG gave me a sketch of Mukuro from Warzard / CFE too, yeah I gotta ask for rare characters lol!

Picks of my sketches coming later.

Capcom was at the show with DMC4 and the DMC anime man, they haven’t been to a NY event since 2003! Got to play the DMC4 demo and joint was fire!

On a side note I came across three cosplayers who were dressed as Cammy, freaking Ingrid and Hermit from the anime/manga Capcom game History’s Strongest Disciple Kenichi! They were surprised I knew who Hermit was and I was the first person to call him by the name Hermit! HOT DAMN THAT WAS SOME HARDCORE CAPCOM LOVIN’ MAAANG I DIDN’T FEEL I WAS ALONE IN MY HARDCORE CAPCOM FANDOM! Ah it was beautiful moment. Tears of joy, tears of joy.

Exactly, it would make more sense that way. If the private-invitations deal was going on, I would’ve expected to see some kind of indication, if nowhere else, in the one Revival book, which does take into account Guile’s Z3 ending, probably the most significant of Z3’s outright retcons. Hence, unless something’s going to be uncovered, I’m taking that statement of Saiki’s the same way as Goutetsu teaching the SGS, null and void. Sorry.

Looking forward to all the Udon SF comic goodness forthcoming, but I hope they do fix up Sakura Ganbaru vol. 2 first. I still have my original receipt.

So lucky. Omar Dogan’s the only Udon artist I admire. He actually nailed the essence of every character he’s drawn, with maybe just a few stylized perks. He doesn’t just take so-and-so and draw them in some pre-conceived manga style like those other guys. His anatomy is astounding. I’ve yet to see full compositions from him in perspective, but even an amateur can tell what’s wrong with certain panels in the main series. It’s the only thing that bothers me besides the poorly written dialogue. Why is Omar doing the Legends comics only? When I see his art, it’s like he was trained by Capcom themselves.

If there’s an artbook with his work, you can bet I’m going to get it somehow.

Ikeno Daigo is one of the main artist for Street Fighter IV.

re: Udon

I see more series that are going to take forever to finish. :expressionless:

re: SFZ3/SF2

Who says all 17 characters are involved with both plots? I always figured it was just a certain core of characters who were involved in both plots, with the rest either not actually appearing or having such little impact that they effectively weren’t there.

re: SFIV

Anyway, since it’s been confirmed that SFIV = SF2.5, Tiamat’s gonna be hurting hard.

Though at least they cleared up Poison… somewhat. Apparently, according to Ono, in the US, Posion is a post-op transsexual, and in Japan, Poison is pre-op. I guess we’ll add that to the list of official name changes between characters (i.e. Vega -> M.Bison, Balrog -> Vega, etc.) to separate the two canons.
