Both are a possibility. It wasn’t until HnN which pointed out that they were probably children he could not save. Then when the Fanbook came out, it was revealed that each skull represented three worldly elements: fire, water, and earth. Possibly each child perished from a wildfire or lightning, etc., a flood or just drowning, etc., and an earthquake, mudslide, etc.
Although AASFZ3 mentions nothing about his necklace in his fashion style section (kind of surprising), his Z3 art does show especially from an angle that the jaws have larger and fewer teeth than would an adult’s jaw, and the eye sockets are reasonably big. Going by the jaws, the children wouldn’t have been older than 2 or 3 years.
By that logic, Final Fight isn’t in the same universe either (far as I know). …I think I’ll have to forego going by that particular logic assumption, at least for now.
Capcom USA still has the rights to Final Fight, they are pretty adamant about that on Capcom’s site. Even with Studio 8 shutting down Capcom USA still has the IP.
I think only Slammasters is in question and so is Captain Commando, but they have obvious tie-ins besides. Well… more obvious than the Sakura/RS thing anyway with the few Sakura/RS contradictions in place… :looney: Capcom USA did get to re-release Captain Commando for the Capcom Collections games, those always hit the US before Japan. Not that they have CC rights of course, but they got to toss some CC hints happening in the future with FF Streetwise. Um, take it as you will I guess.
But yeah I’m not sure how serious you are supposed to take his RS/SF quote. If anything it seems more like Capcom USA is not gonna touch Rival Schools or have RS characters show up in a possible future SF game and so on…
I know, I’m not following it either, not after seeing what happened with Zero 3 Double Upper versus Alpha 3 Max, confirming who has the storyline precedent based on what kind of release. I’m just the messenger, passing along the word at TAS’ request (despite him clamping his mouth shut when I bring up touchy issues from the past), nothing more.
Capcom USA has the Final Fight License? Hmm, I didn’t know that. I thought they were just lent it or something.
At any rate, the fact that there won’t be any future RS SF tie-ins should be pretty obvious, I think. I mean, that became apparent enough with Project Justice not having any (and further confirmed by Kyosuke not being in SFA3, IMHO, although admittingly that’s a more arbitrary piece of evidence).
…that and for there to be any future RS or SF tie-ins, there’d have to actually be a new RS game (Street Fighter 4 would generally be too far in the future for Capcom to care about an RS SF tie-in if Capcom’s already extremely dubious about the idea). Fat chance of that happening.
Well, at any rate, Capcom USA owns the brand now, so if a Capcom USA guy says they aren’t the same universe, then it probably is what they said it is (the question might then become whether or not it was a retcon, but rumours I couldn’t confirm are that the creator of Rival Schools never wanted them to be connected in the first place). Specially if they do own the FF license, meaning there’s a decent chance someone out there in Capcom USA is a fan enough of the various actually still-remotely-living franchises in the SF world (all… two of them) to want them both.
I’ve been working on an update on and off, but I’ve also been trying to study for a certification exam lately. It’s hard for me to put up the motivation to do an 8 hour + marathon in the guide like I used to do because most of the updating appears to be just re-clarifying stuff already in the guide or saying “Hey look! Stuff the guide already said now has more evidence to prove that it’s right!”
Normally these days plot guide updates come out much faster after something new gets released (such as SFA3 Advance Upper whatever’s new storyline stuff with the exception of Cammy). Otherwise, it just always seems like there’s something more pressing in my life I’d rather be doing.
Maybe I should just hand over maintenance of the guide to someone else. But then they’d also probably be left with the task of overhauling that thing because it’s so sloppy and overly verbose right now, and that doesn’t seem like a very nice thing to slap onto a person.
EDIT: Mweh, I guess I’ll get back to work on it today. (although I still doubt it’ll be finished anytime soon since there’s a lot of stuff I have to add or change or revamp to it for this update. Most updates take me at least 8 hours straight of actual typing without distractions and such when I do them, and this update will likely take longer because it’s backlogged even more than usual)
On the plus side, EGM said in one of the latest gossip columns that Capcom is getting set to reveal Street Fighter 4. On the minus side, how often have we heard THAT before?
Recently Capcom of Japan announced that they would release their first 2D fighting game in 3 years for Japanese arcade games. Again, Capcom USA denies that it is SF4 or related to SF in anyway. The leading RUMOR NO ONE KNOWS IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT is that it will be a 2D fighter based on Capcom’s Devil Kings franchise developed by Arc Systems. Here’s the link for it, it’s in Japanese.
My understanding of SF4’s/SF’s future right now from what Rey Jimenez, Brain Dunn, Sven and others have said is it depends on how well HD ST does. The Xbox Live version of SF2 Hyper (It has made more money than an any other Xbox Live Arcade game BTW, didn’t sell the most but made the most money) and that was a test for future things which bought along HD ST, and that is a test for other things. I mean, no guarantees on anything of course… and since Hyper SF2 did so well I can’t really see HD ST doing really badly so the future looks kind of good right now. I mean, you never know what’s gonna happen but still.
As long as this thread doesn’t get deleted (…like last time. Grrr. Fortunately, that happened only shortly after the last update), I should be okay. I know exactly where the thread starts since the last plot guide update so I just need to approach in a methodical fashion. …a long long loooooong methodical fashion
That is so fucking sad if that is true. Because it means that there’s no one at Capcom with any vision left. If they’ve even thinking about SF4 being done with sprites, they might as well not bother.
Why not making very highly detailed 3D models that can be used over and over again for all sorts of things and taking screenshots of them and using them as sprites? They could use them for ultra super whatever HD because they wouldn’t be scale dependent.
We had a pretty good thread on SF EX storyline over at the SF Comics Forum, I think the forum monster ate it 'cuz I went through all 26 pages and I couldn’t find it…
Tournaments are held around the world I’m assuming.
More interesting? I dunno. Only a few characaters have their storylines advance in SF EX and it’s mostly the original characters, the SF2/SFZ characters aren’t so different - but they do recieve some extra touches like Ryu defeating Sagat, Chun-Li retiring and warning of a new organization after Shadowloo, things like that. Biggest difference is Gouki who dies by Kairi’s hand and Vega(M.Bison in the US) lives as a twist. So yeah, - more interesting? Well if it’s more interesting to you than it is, whatever floats ya boat lol! Me I like the official storyline because Gouki is still alive and Vega is dead, I prefer that to the other way around.
Yeah it’s messed up that they never translated the SFEX2 endings which is the heaviest regarding storyline, at least SFEX3 endings tell you how most of the characters finished up.
Well I just found them more interesting because of the tie in’s with the original characters were more well done unlike Alpha and their anti-climatic endings which was practically thrown all over the place. To be honest, ryu and chun li were the only characters I actually cared about until I heard Kairi KILLS Akuma (who is like god among SF characters) and with the impact (I usually call the SF3 series the impact series for some reason) having the most drek storyline of anything, EX is like a breath of fresh air sort of. I can actually think of many possibilities of how EX fits in with the official story but I dont know all the details of what really happened in EX other than Kairi killing akuma (the only thing I think was resolved was his plot)
Well, things that don’t fit in with the regular storyline -
Rolento going against America causing Doctrine Dark’s condition.
Guile last seen surrounded by Shadowloo troops.
Chun-Li warning against a new organization when she retires, which we never find out what it is (but for argument’s sake it could be The Illuminati if such a thing exists in SF EX land).
Ryu not being over SNH at this point in time (though I’m not sure if he actually gives into it during SFEX 1-3)
Sakura is still 16 years old.
Vega escapes and is alive.
Gouki is killed by Kairi.
Ryu defeated Sagat already.
Hayate weilding the blade that killed the legendary Orochi Demon, possibly. Which… I suppose wouldn’t conflict with anything but suffice it to say SE EX land is much harder to crossover with KOF - And I always suspected this is why Hayate was dropped for SFEX3 since the Orochi Legend was taken… Didn’t stop Okami though from retelling the Orochi story AGAIN and Ms. Orange can do a Shun Goku Satsu in that game which is kind of funny when you think of SF EX.
