Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Was there actually a Street Fighter 1 tournament or did Ryu just go around beating up random Muy Thai guys until Sagat challenged him? :open_mouth:

Yes there was a SF1 tournament. What the Zero account adds is more of what happened as Ryu was in Thailand. Ryu had heard of Sagat before reaching Thailand, but Sagat had paid Ryu no attention until word reached his ears of what a laughingstock this foreign nobody was making out of Sagat’s style in his own home turf. Sagat didn’t know or care where else Ryu had gone to fight or who else he defeated before challenging him, because he was that sure no one could beat him, and that was all that mattered. SF1 the first World Fighting Championship was set up by Sagat’s over-inflated pride to all. Defeat Sagat and you’re the champion was the premise. Many others entered for various reasons, both faces seen and unseen in the game, and Ryu didn’t necessarily fight them all storywise to get to the end.

So to answer your question TiamatRoar, both.

Hmm, interesting. Did Ryu take Sagat out at the end of the SF1 tournament and give him the scar there, or did he do so after Sagat challenged him for attacking all those Muy Thai fighters? Or was it both at the same time?

Barring SFA, each series has around 12-16 characters, but since all three of the tournaments were international, could that possibly mean they were comparable to the Olympics (for lack of a better example)? Do any sources state if there were a lot more competitors in these tournaments than were shown in the games?

TiamatRoar: both. Ryu wanted Sagat to really notice him from mopping the floor with Sagat’s fellow Muay Thai practitioners, which made Sagat furiously challenge Ryu instead of the reverse as all previous contenders had done (Ryu was quite the cocky prideful jerk back then, not just Sagat), and SF1 was finished with Sagat’s scar and defeat delivered.

Kataklysmic: Fei Long’s SSF2 account reveals that the bouts he was invited to, at his Tiger Balm Park stage, were in fact preliminary fights for Shadoloo’s hosted World Fighting Championship. Miscellaneous fighters not seen in the games included a short guy in a gi and a long-haired dude in T-shirt and jeans.

Most likely for SF1 and SF2 there were plenty of extra people competing, due to the nature of the tournaments being “take out the host for his big mouth saying he’s the best” but for SF3 maybe not. That one depended on how many people Gill wished to pull their strings, to weed out who would be the so-called elite.

Ah, I see. Cool. Thanks, Vasili!

You’re very welcome James.:china:

I posted this plea on the Image Mishmash thread also, and I’ve sent sano an email, but for those with CCC 2 for PS2 and/or XBOX, is there a possibility of making a legible screenshot of the SF1 character bios + story pic(s) within SF1’s unlockable art collection? I remember sano said that it would be tough to read as it is on the PSP, so would this be more hopeful?

Looks like Akiman drew portraits of some SF2 characters recently -

Taken from his website, looks like he did a cover for a Japanese DS game too, the first picture you see -

Emulation maybe? I talked to the Scrollboss guy about it, he said it should be possible.

Well that’s always the same pics he’s drawing. The Chun-Li one was in one of the bigger art books I think, so not really new.

Scrollboss guy? Cool, how soon can he do it?

If Andy Warhol was into anime, he would’ve done something just like that.

He just said it should be possible, not that he will do it soon.

Hey Tiamat, how come you said Adon never fights against Akuma during SFA3 in your FAQ when Adon is Akuma’s mid-boss for that game?

I just found it strange that such a fact was omitted from Adon’s profile in the plot FAQ.

Eeerk, guess I shouldn’t have said possibility above, since probably only sano would’ve remembered why.
I know that it’s more than technologically possible to do it, after all it’s not a sprite rip or an edit or anything strictly requiring emulation. I just wondered if someone who has the game could provide a screenshot of that old pamphlet’s story pages, and the screenshot would be clear enough to read, clearer than at least the pic I snagged from Yahoo Auctions the last time it was up for bid.

Sent him a mail, we’ll see. Finally uploaded the Maki biker pic to my site.

Thank you very much aerialgroove.:china:

checks Far as I can tell, the plot guide says it isn’t sure, not that it definately never happened. Of note, however, is that Akuma also fights Guy and Bison in his storyline, and neither of those likely happened in SFA3 either.

Were any of these officially stated?

Although it does remind me that I should probably create a “personality” section for each character someday.

It’s funny that u mention that, 'cuz each character bio/profile at the Lives of Street Fighter Japanese fan site includes a personality section.

Finished just in time (my time anyway:bgrin: ). Ken’s accounts from SFZ. Original is mostly an old repost for those who remember, slightly refurbished with some parts I missed the first time around. It should be less of a change with Vega’s and Gouki’s.

Also Tiamat, consider the Zero 2 drama cd’s for your Kei fix if you haven’t already.

Enjoy.

Ken from SFZ

Original account from SF2 Himitsu Hyakka

“That guy, he made it first!” For Ken, to say that Ryu defeated the emperor of Muay Thai Sagat, in loud voices he heard the rumor.
“How far we go to become strong…right, Ryu?” Ken murmured as he began the trip. In order to verify Ryu’s merit, a reunion would be carried out.
Ken and Ryu’s childhood period. Gouken’s original training during his time of balding…
Gasshi! At the evening training grounds in the quiet mountain recess, the sound of a furious fist striking echoed out. “The true inheritor of ansatsuken, is only me!” A mysterious man donning a black uniform shouts out, and attacked Gouken. A vicious fighting spirit emanated from the mysterious man, and clashed with Gouken’s transparent fighting spirit. “Your ‘power of hadou’ fills with malice…it’s inevitable, because your fist has become that of a murderer’s!” Gouken like that, defeated the mysterious man. The mysterious man disappeared, Ryu and Ken were there with Gouken. “That man’s power will someday exceed mine, a great disaster will likely befall the two of you…unless before my power weakens you are taught…all that is of my fist, the power of hadou!”

Official story from Gamest SFZ and AASFZ

Muay Thai’s emperor Sagat defeated by Ryu- hearing of this rumor, Ken began a trip by airplane to meet Ryu again. Immersed in the sheets up to his waist, through streaming clouds with his eyes he’d see and, suddenly he remembered that day. He saw the younger times, the matter of a battle for Master Gouken and a mysterious man…

Within a mountain recess’ area for pursuits of knowledge which people would seldom visit, the sound of fist clashing with fist resounded throughout, the evening stillness was being disturbed.
“The true inheritor of ansatsuken, is only me! For you it finishes here!” A black uniform marked the man who called out, and still a wicked crimson fighting spirit surged. That vigor striking out words of defeat with every step, that was when a man with a seemingly altogether different transparent fighting spirit confronted him.
It was Gouken. "Your ‘power of hadou’ fills with malice…it’s inevitable, because your fist has become that of a murderer’s!"
The battle of these 2 people, nearby the boys without blinking saw. It was Ryu and Ken from their younger days. This magnificent fight, of which the not yet experienced boys had a chance and such to step into, the 2 of them wouldn’t merely trust in watching over their master’s victory.
Suddenly within the starting rain, this fight thought to continue unknowingly over, it was seen that the conclusion was merely Gouken’s surpassing fist which brought the mysterious man face down onto the ground. “Your life, surely, surely I will take and receeive!” A moaning voice immediately rose to a call, after the man’s form disappeared in an instant, the mountain was regaining its original stillness. Gouken came running up brushing down his students’ heads, looking up to the sky as he spoke.
“That man’s power will someday exceed mine, a great disaster will befall the two of you…unless before my power weakens you are taught…all that is of my fist, the power of hadou!”

“How about a drink?” The stewardess’ voice, brought Ken back to reality. He went forward to take the cup and, within his mind he murmured. “How far we go to become strong…right, Ryu?”

Next time, Chun Li. Thanks for reading and happy holidays minna-san!!!

The former was.
