You guys sure about that? If it is, how come it’s in Eternal? It’s also in Capcom Design Works as a SF2 trading card pic, even though that book does have EX stuff in it while Eternal shouldn’t.
Yes sure. The guy next to him is probably SFEX’s Kairi:

Hmm, okay. Still don’t get how an EX pic got into Eternal, but stranger things have happened. Know of any other EX pics in the book?
If memory serves that drawing was grouped with other SF EX pics in Capcom Design Works, either that or it says SF EX on the artwork below the drawing, can’t remember exactly but I do remember it being SF EX art.
Kairi has one eye so I’m not sure that’s him. Could be before Gouki beat him up, or since it’s a comedic drawing it could still be him and the details might not really matter.
But like I said above, the caption for it in Capcom Design Works said SF2 Trading Card. Gotta check what Eternal says later today.
Huh. Than I really don’t recall how I associated the drawing with SF EX for some reason… had nothing to do with Kairi though. I’m leaning towards the artwork being more similar to SF EX character artwork than SF2 artwork for now.
Well, Eternal (both languages) says SF2 trading card illustration by Ikeno, who’s also the primary artist for 3S work. So…can you support the EX claim aerialgroove or anyone else?
When I first went through Eternal, I was surprised to not see this large pic of Chun Li leaping with a kick at Ryu which I first saw in CDW, and thought that it was a pretty awesome pic to include. But recently I went back and saw why it didn’t make it; the pic was made for EX 3.
Ryu
I changed my mind about Kairi, the guy on the pic is a wimp, defenitely not Kairi.
So it’s probably just a pic that was originally made for Trading Cards and was so good that they included it in EC.
Surprises me too!
Random timeline stuff for the Plot Guide - I finally got around to playing RE4 (finished RE3 only a few weeks ago, I’m late lol) and it tells you at the very beginning of the game exactly when RE1-3 take place - during 1998. Then it states that RE4 takes place 6 years later, putting it in 2004 when the game was released.
Thanks for posting the pic.
I found the resent polt guide to have omitted things they mentioned in the past:
-How come the tidbit about urien having a mental block and being emotional unstable is missing?
-Where’s the mention of satsu no hadou’s after effects and increased strength.
etc
Sure thing. No one else has a drawing of Ryu in plain clothes? I’ll look for it…
Which one?
Depends which one The Illuminati was asking about before I guess. So um, which one?
Sano- Thanks for the scans you sent me! You said you would hook me up on more on the monday after the holidays. Does that mean a week after Christmas?
Next Monday and after. Prolly Monday depending on how hung over I get… Can you believe I still haven’t bought a single gift yet? Oh well I got 5 games for myself - Resident Evil 4, Mega Man X 8, Mega Man X fot the PSP, Jump Ultimate Stars and Elite Beat Agents for the DS and now to give gifts to everyone else…
Thanks for that one, I didn’t see that pic before. By the way Ryu’s “plain clothes look” in that drawing is similar to the look he sported on the Tokuma comics (Masaomi Kanzaki manga) when he wasn’t wearing the Gi, and with the coloring that the American version got it ended up being very Cody-ish, (a blue levis, white T-Shirt) but with red wristbands and of course his trademark red headband.
Yeah, I think there’s another one where he’s wearing a High School letterman’s jacket…
Shin mech gouki from the SFDevotion forums pointed out that T. Hawk’s SSF2 stage is the Instituto Cultural Cabanas in Guadalajara. That’s quite a way’s from his Zero 3 stage over at Monte Alban. If that’s where he travels to do his daily vending, that’s a long way just hoofing it. Credit goes to Shin mech gouki for this info.
Anyone remember the website Gouki’s Page of Whatever ? TAS’ page on angelfire.com has some pics from there of what looks like some cleverly designed strategy book pages for all of SnH Ryu’s moves. Fooled me for a few moments.
SFZ accounts starting with Ryu. Extra note, Himitsu Hyakka is the only source I’ve seen so far that describes the Dan & Retsu sketch. Says Dan’s defeated in the midst of training, and this is also found in the Lives of Street Fighter Japanese fan site. Now for Saiki to be correct, the training would refer to Dan’s later training towards developing saikyo ryu, not the training under Gouken. Enjoy.
Ryu from SFZ
original account from SF2 Himitsu Hyakka
“Let’s compete, to see who’ll become famous first as a fighting stylist!” On the final day of the training, Ken challenged Ryu.
“Fine, I accept!” For Ryu, having taken Ken’s challenge, the struggle for the world’s strongest has commenced!
First, with the Muay Thai style kickboxing said to be the strongest of disciplines, he’ll battle Muay Thai’s strongest emperor Sagat! Ryu began a trip to Thailand.
"Okay! Twenty people from here on!"
Ryu’s screaming voice resounded through the Thai streets.
In only 1 round, Ryu would knock out Muay Thai’s formidable ones. Rumors of the invincible, anonymous Japanese fighting stylist Ryu, spread throughout the Muay Thai realm. "The outsider has a great face for defiling the name of Muay Thai…miserable guy! I’ll show him geniune Muay Thai!"
Like that, finally the emperor Sagat stood up. For the sake of “Muay Thai’s pride”, he said he would go defeat this anonymous Japanese fighting stylist. However…
“Shoryuken!” Byubyun! The heavens danced from the vigor of Ryu’s fist. The power of the shoryuken, tore Sagat’s chest! Deep red blood gushed out as Sagat collapsed onto the ground. Ryu’s victory!
From here, everything had begun!
Official Story from Gamest SFZ and AASFZ
"Why don’t we try competing, to see who will be the first to obtain a reputation as a fighting stylist?"
The 2 of them having accumulated onto the conclusion of their pursuits of knowledge, having casually spoken Ken’s very words began it all. Why then, it was from nothing but that which Ryu decided to challenge the Muay Thai champ Sagat.
Possessing extraordinary fighting ability, he dashed at once toward the so-called strongest discipline Muay Thai’s peak being the man he would cross fists with, wanting to see his own merit verified!
An embraced thought heated from previously, Ryu planned a trip to Thailand alone.
With numerous strong ones clamoring Thailand’s fighting world, himself being a nameless fighting stylist it wasn’t expected for him to be able to all of the sudden challenge the champ, Ryu himself was greatly aware of this. But he planned for it. That is, as the reigning tiger on the throne summons the bait, as the Muay Thai champ cannot ignore the seeming circumstances, his own fist would be created…
To make Muay Thai’s fighting stylist understand his reputation, with already no less than 20 men as opponents, the Oriental would KO them all in 1 round- amongst Thailand’s fighting stylists, whispering rumors.
That was for Ryu, the secret plan for that man to summon him. Thus to manipulate Muay Thai by fights with numerous fighting stylists, and also with a series of victories, his own rumor sooner or later would naturally reach also Sagat’s ears. If it must be without a doubt, with Muay Thai’s pride on the line, Sagat himself would come around to smash him. With such an intention, Ryu wanted to throw his body into a struggle every night.
“The outsider has a great face for defiling the name of Muay Thai…miserable guy!” Ryu’s expectation prevailed, the rumor-heard Sagat’s fighting spirit flared. That man uses a strange to say kenpo- 1 man as a fighting stylist with an interest which Sagat was not able to embrace.
“I shall show you genuine Muay Thai!”
At last the emperor started to move. That battle would for both of them be from then on their fate and decisive of all else, for the 2 of them a significance still unknown.
Next time, Ken. Thanks for reading minna-san. Long live the thread.
