Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Revival. You’re thinking of plain Super X/Super Turbo and without Matching Service.

Was thinking of the Gameboy one, SF2 Revival. Shin Gouki’s in that?

EDIT: Nevermind. I checked Gamefaqs and saw that you could unlock him if you got 99999 points in one of the modes or something. Now I’m trying to remember if I did this before or not… guess I gotta go dust it off and see…

Got Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2 for the PS2 yesterday with SF1 and ST! The coolest thing is that they have a version of Quiz & Dragons that only asks Capcom related questions! I was suprised how many I got right! Wish there was a gameshow like that so I could put all of my useless Capcom information to some good! Plenty of SF questions, some on Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Resident Evil, you name it. There was even some Final Fight Streetwise questions in there! :lovin:

Oh and one of the questions said what year Resident Evil Outbreak took place and the answer was 1998 if that helps with the RE timeline. Well the upcoming RE game on the Wii that will have 1-4 along with bonus storyline bits to connect the games should in theory reveal all about the timeline, at least for 1-4.

Akiman’s latest drawing in Gamaga magazine -

So who is that in the drawing vasili10 or anyone else that recoginizes her? Looks like Sakura’s homicidal cousin but I know it’s not her…

No, but she might as well be. That’s Ryugu Rena from the school drama horror PC game and anime series Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.

I got CCC v.2 yesterday, and you know what I’ve realized? The CCCs are intended mostly for people that come to SRK. As sad and pathetic as that might sound, the “hardcore” still have a strong influence. v2’s got a series of tutorial vids you can watch with recorded ST footage, voiced by none other than ST-whiz Sirlin (in fact, the art for ST has to be unlocked by picking Old Sagat; unmistakably a “top-tier” recommendation of SRK). Not that I have a problem with Sirlin, of course. I admire his efforts to get in touch with Capcom to give newbs everything they need to compete; hell, anyone that does this is worthy of my respect. The problem is that people who look at these vids are gonna put his advice into practice and quickly place themselves on Justin-fucking-Wong status just by whomping a few scrubs, like so many arrogant SOBS that have come here who still don’t know half about the games they play.

But all that aside, one question asked in Quiz & Dragons that really intrigued me was this: "In which Capcom game did Sakura NOT appear?"
The choices were:

  1. Street Fighter Alpha
  2. Rival Schools
  3. Pocket Fighter
  4. Crimson Tears

This question’s tricky because if you’re eager, it’s hard to keep in mind that by asking which “game,” the enemy is not asking which “game series.” The correct answer is SFA, which now begs another question: What was Sakura doing in Crimson Tears?

Going on, the ST art consisted of character sketches and flyers. Nothing I haven’t seen before, except for one poster art image: It’s got the usual manga theme of having the entire roster crammed into one space. Cammy and Blanka, however, are not in the crowded roster. Instead, they’re shown below preparing to fight in a grass field. Maybe those two fought in the SF2 tourny?

Can’t find much info on Crimson Tears, but the game is set in Tokyo in the year 2049. There are three playable characters, one of whom is a naive female girl.

My guess is that Sakura is actually just a costume-change for her (sorta like those other SF costume changes that Capcom has been putting into various games lately like Ominusha).

That painting with Cammy and Blanka can be found in various art books. Any other rare art? I think last time there was some rather unknown FF art.

Perhaps; Blanka did meet his mother at the final Thailand stage.

Was it ever directly stated that SF3NG/2I took place within an organized competition/tournament? If so, where?

The SF3 Fighting Bible and the NG Gamest mook say that Gill collected fighting stylists to battle in order to weed out the elite.

The competition was somewhat organized from the view of Gill and his society, since Gill was pulling quite a few of the strings that drew people in, but as knowledge it was highly hidden from the rest of the world, as opposed to SF1 and SF2. Hence AAC doesn’t lump SF3’s with the other two under the title “World Fighting Championship.”

Another question I got right since I have Crimson Tears! I’m telling you, if the Capcom Edition of Quiz & Dragons was a game show I’d clean up!

You can unlock Sakura’s outfit in Crimson Tears and one of the female protagonists can wear her outfit. The questions included character outfits as character appearances. There’s another question in there with regards to Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile and Cammy - outfits you can unlock in Onimusha 4 but they regard it as character appearances. Which they aren’t really. But I knew for sure she wasn’t in SFA1 so I got it right. I have scans of some of them, be right back…

EDIT: Oh yeah thanks vasili10 for the info!

So far I have these two. I used to have more some where so I’m currently looking for them… at this point I’m praying they are at my PC at work…

Off the bat I remember that Tokio has a Ryu outfit too with a white headband.

About the game - Kadie is the third female character in Crimson Tears. Asuka is named Amber in the English version. Both of the women, well even the male protagonist are all naive but Amber/Asuka possibly more so - she’s the type who is always questions but everything like, “Why must we fight? Why do we exist?” etc. while Tokio’s the strong silent type and Kadie’s the ‘just tell me who I got a shoot up’ type. Anyway, images of costume swaps I still have -

LOL, that’s great stuff. Tokio looks just LIKE Demitri in those scans!

But those questions regarding outfits as character appearances are very unfair. Oh well. I like how the game gives you questions that only Plot Guide affiliates would know, like “Which two SF characters are brothers-in-law?” or “Who shares his birthday with Ryu?” More proof that the collection is geared mainly towards SRKers.

Hey, since you have Crimson Tears, what’s your non-biased opinion of it? I keep hearing it’s just another mediocre brawler.

To be honest I’m only about 50% done with it since I don’t play it much.

But I don’t like it much, which is why I don’t play it much. The graphics are nice and so are the cut scenes. But the stages are incredibly repetitive. Plus after about Stage 2, you have to level up massively RPG style to defeat the main bad guy in Stage 3, and you level up RPG style. For a long time Axel the Boss of Stage 3 will just kill you by looking at you.

And it’s pretty darn unforgiving. For example, if one of your characters dies in a stage another character has to go rescue them. If you fail to rescue that character within a Time Limit (stages are never the same, things always randomly move around every time you go there) they loose all of their items, and at times you may have like 30 weapons on a character, they’ll be gone. If a character dies against a boss, you have one more chance to fight the boss if you send in another character, but the second character can’t use any heal items or any items period - the characters also ‘overheat’ after a while and this makes you HP drop, you have to use a Coolant to clear that up but again, no items on second boss fights. So your HP just drops when you fight the boss without him even touching you.

Stages are comprised of levels, first you have to find the Key to exit the level and then you have to find the exit, you do this a few times a stage. There are Key Radars and Exit Radars that can help you out though.

It’s not all bad. When you fight you execute combos, those are lots of fun and you can specialize them by acquiring parts. Also the characters have different dialogs / clips with boss characters so it’s fun to visit them with different characters. A nice thing is you can view the cut scenes once you unlock them whenever, they are really good looking Cel Shaded clips. And the girls in the game… are… um… not ugly…

BUT the game is very frustrating and there is a whole lot of leveling up involved, which means visiting levels you already beat and fighting random thugs over and over again and again.

Can’t fully rate it since I’m only 50% done with it and for all I know the last have might be excellent but right now the game is frustrating beyond belief. Since it involves leveling up, it’s not so much that it is hard so long as you do level up. But leveling up in this game isn’t really as fun as your standard RPG where you can go anywhere and fight anyone, here you are designated only to the places you’ve been to before and all are unconnected since you have to use a warp zone to get there. Making things feel, really restricted.

But I wouldn’t recomend the game to anyone. I’d give it like a 5 out of 10 if I had to rate it right now. Well, 5 for the 50% of it that I accomplished…

And yeah you can’t unlock any of the SF/DS outfits unless you beat the game so don’t ask me how those look in motion…

Well the other game with the SF costumes - Onimusha 4 is really good. It has costumes of Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile and Cammy. About 30% done with that game only 'cuz I sure do rotate a lot of games… but I haven’t had it as long as I’ve had Crimson Tears either…

For some reason, I guess in terms of the elaborant character designs Crimson Tears reminds me of Seven Samurai 20XX from Sammy and Magna Carta Tears of Blood from Atlus. Tears of Blood, Crimson Tears, What a coinky dink! Both of these other games are better than Crimson Tears. Only you can beat Seven Samurai 20XX in one day though no lie if you just Hack and Slash everything that moves, still the two villains that rap are hella funny, oh nos Akira Kurosawa must be turning over in his grave! Magna Carta’s really good, a video game made in Korea! With Hung-Tae Kim busting out some excellent character designs. It’s more of a turn based RPG. But man some of those character designs of the men in the game… REALLY look like women… well it helps that the women really look like women too I guess…

There’s this other piece with the crowded ST roster in it, except each of the characters come in multiples (with different colors from the game, respectively). It’s the one where you see Cammy climbing on top of Balrog and Zangief in the foreground, and everyone else is just looking up. I’m sure this one’s in a Capcom Illustrations book, but I first saw it years ago in an old strategy guide I used to have.

The rest of them are just solo sketches and finished art for the characters as well as game ads that can be found at fightersgeneration.com.

The cut scenes are gorgeous, but very misleading. I actually thought that’s how the game would look as you were playing. What a way for trailers to disappoint, huh? Afterwards, it appeared to be a simple brain-dead button masher which I thought would be worth having just for those cut scenes alone. But now I definitely don’t want to get it. What’s the use in playing three androids if they’re just gonna malfunction on you?

I know wikipedia isn’t the most reliable fountain of knowledge in the world, but I think this piece of info on Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure is worth a look:

"The second JJBA series takes place in the 1930s, and follows the misadventures of Joseph Joestar, the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, as he fights vampires and ancient super beings with some help from a cybernetically-enhanced Nazi and an Italian man he has a lot in common with.

Joseph lives in New York with his grandmother Erina and seems to have inherited the power of hamon (the ripple), as he has a natural ability to use it. When old family friend Speedwagon is reported dead (or missing) in Mexico, Joseph takes it on himself to go check it out. His curiosity is piqued when he is attacked in New York City by an old friend turned vampire. When he goes to Mexico he discovers a secret underground Nazi facility where the Nazis are trying to revive a man who seems to have been trapped in a stone pillar for 2,000 years. Here Joseph meets the Nazi Stroheim (whose character design is said by many to have influenced Capcom when they created Guile, through Straights from Series 1 also looks similar to him)."

Wow, you’re right, he’s an inspiration for both Guile (hair) and Vega (suit, hat, stance).
I guess that makes Chun-Li the only truly original character in SFII. Guess that’s why she’s so popular. And I thought they were lazy with the SFIII roster :stuck_out_tongue:

aerialgroove, didja know your website has been added to the Red Cyclone’s links section???

Awesome! He calls aerialgroove’s site a magnificent dispatch into the SF world.

D_Alf the webmaster for the Lives of Street Fighter site has given me a big arigato gozaimashita, even put me first on a list of people to thank: http://www.geocities.co.jp/AnimeComic-Ink/8883/StreetFighter/SF_Notice.html
