Yeah, I think pretty much all of the character artwork from both games came from comics. I was aware of a lot of the X-Men artwork being an X-Men fan, wasn’t too aware of the Hulk.
Here’s another one from issue The Incredible Hulk 410 -
For those who have seen and/or have the Gouken action figure from Comicon I believe, notice the pic of him close to the printed move commands on the figure’s package. I had previously dismissed that pic as fanart, now I’m not so sure. Anyone know or can prove if the pic is official or not?
Where in Eternal did we find that Karin did actually sponsor R. Mika after Zero 3? It’s not something I ever noted here in the thread, and there’s no link between Karin and Mika in either of the character charts, both Eternal’s and Capcom Japan’s website. Did I miss reading it somewhere?
Dunno about you guys, but i think that character artwork looks pretty good. Does anyone have decent quality versions?
Also there are some really nice high quality versions of the CFJ artwork on the internet. But both of the bosses are missing (Pyron and Shin Akuma). Does anyone happen to have these?
Why is it so frustrating to search for these things? At one point there were a whole bunch of SF fansites that had good image galleries. Bandwidth gets cheaper and cheaper yet there are only like two websites that collect any official artwork anymore.
Yeah Udoneko of Studio Udon said that Bengus AKA CRMK did character designs for Onimusha 4. I think that’s why there’s SF2 costumes in the game and all.
I think I have Shin Gouki and Pyron’s CFJ artwork for there endings at my PC at work, not 100% sure though. I’ll check on Monday when I clock in.
I’m not looking for their endings, just their character art. It was done by Shinkiro i think. Kawaii Dream has the whole set with the exception of Pyron and Akuma. I know these exist because they’re in the game (and Pyron is the best one in the set cuz of the crazy coloring/shading) but i can’t find them on the internet anywhere.
It’s always been like that. Almost all sites have (always had) the same art because they have it from either guide/art books or from other websites. Almost all SFIICE and SFIIT art that can be found online, has the stupid squares and shapes behind the character art, because some people scanned them from the same book and then everyone else copied it.
The only source for the art is official websites by Capcom or official guides. The art for SFA Anthology, for example, was online for only two weeks, then got replaced by much smaller versions of the same images. I bought the CFJ guie book and it’s full of non CFJ art, which sucks. Most of the CFJ art in it is covered by screenshots or text.
You can see them in the Japanese CFJ guide book from Arcadia, pretty clearly. Shin Gouki is a little cropped though 'cuz there’s a box of Japanese text beneath him that lays out the three things you have to accomplish to face him(the book is based on the Arcade version where both he and Pyron are unplayable hidden bosses). It cuts off right underneath his elbow but they show you a game screen with his artwork in it, only he’s saying a win quote. It’s not really cropped that much though. Pyron’s is really clear and not cropped or anything like that.
There is yet another CFJ Japanese strategy guide that I don’t have yet so don’t know about that one.
Hey I’ve been talking to a relative about martial arts a lot lately, so I’m curious about Dudley. Boxers aren’t supposed to crouch down, strike at one’s feet, or grab and throw. Dudley does all of these.
We know he’s really good at what he does, and I’m assuming he’s known for his boxing prowess throughout Europe, but being the gentleman that he is, he breaks the rules. Was there ever a REASON for this besides making him a good character to play? I expect that kind of behavior from Balrog, but why Dudley? It makes no sense.
Not to mention that when he loses in SF3 his opponents criticize him for his limited fighting style.
I would think that Dudley prolly doesn’t do most of the stuff that’s illegal in Boxing matches in Boxing matches. Kind of like when Alex fought against Mike Bison in that SF3 flyer and wore gloves and everything. Most of Mike Bison’s in game moves you could get away with in boxing if you were really fast. A very young Mike Bison when he struck you could hit you with his fist, wrist, elbow, shoulder and head in one strike and it was so fast the entire thing would look like one punch. Couldn’t be as obvious as Mike Bison is though.
Limited fighting style most likely refers to Dudley only using his fists and not the rest of his body. Ryu said the same thing to Mike Bison in Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 manga. I mean, you could probably say the same thing to Elena who only uses her legs I guess, but she does have that mini regeneration move going for her.
Vasili10 - Not ignoring your questions or anything, just haven’t had a chance to check out the English SF Eternal. I remember it saying R.Mika entered a tourney but nothing about Karin sponsering her, I’ll have to look it up again. Oh and I do have Gouken’s toy from the Comic Con and lucky for you I have not gotten around to opening it or anything but this also took me a while to get around to looking at. Now that you mention it I’ve never seen that drawing of Gouken before. I’m thinking maybe it’s from Studio Udon since they help design the package. Well the credits on Packaging Design on the back of the box go to Adam Van Wickier and Udon Entertainment Corp at least, unless this is an older piece of artwork they found. I’ll try to scan it later.
I realize that anything goes in a SF tournament, but even then, using methods that aren’t approved of in the boxing world could discredit Dudley as a reputable boxer, don’t you think? That’s almost as bad as a pro-wrestling match in which people bring in chairs, crowbars and other stuff to use against each other when the ref isn’t looking. If Olympic athletes tried pulling that crap in a real bout, they’d bury their careers in a coffin and nail it shut before landing in jail.
Anyway, it seems out of character but Dudley can’t be limiting himself that badly if he prefers to fight dishonestly. And you know its dishonest because he does this even in Third Strike when there’s no tournament going on.
Point is, shouldn’t Dudley be more of a “brawler” instead of a “boxer,” strange as that may be for a so-called gentleman?
But isn’t Dudley saying “Let’s fight like gentleman” left up to interpretation? He could just mean “Let’s not punch people in the nut sack or bite ears or be like Mike Tyson/Bison.”
Discredit him in the Boxing world? Well it would depend on weither or not people who watched boxing even watched the World Warrior’s Tournament and I’m not even 100% certain that this thing is televised, it might just be monitored by Sagat/Vega/Gill or whoever is running it or their employees. Either way, don’t think an annual fighting tournament is going to reach the level of popularity of all year long boxing, it would be as big as Kumite matches and the like. But let’s say the WW tourney is a big deal and he carried some of these moves over to boxing. At best he’d be like every other heavy weight champion. Do lots of illegal stuff, recieve 10 warnings on it and then have one point removed from him and still be able to pull out the win with his fans cheering him on, especially people from England with national pride and what have you.
Heck, if he was a really big star he could prolly get away with lots of stuff with people loving him and no critics saying anything bad about him, even refs looking the other way at lots of things he did. Much like Michael Jordan traveling…
Let’s say he carries none of these moves to boxing and only uses them in WW and WW is a big televised event. Discredit him in the boxing world? Maybe, maybe not. We have no idea what his fan base is really like but chances are they love him in England regardless and that’s enough.
Re: Third Strike and in general - I’m not too sure how much real life stuff we are supose to apply this. It’s ten shades of illegal for a boxer to be in any kind of street fight, their hands are considered to be illegal weapons that can kill. And him fighting in SF3 Third Strike out in the street would be exactly that.
I do agree he should of been more of a brawler though, in reality anyway.
Tottally off of the main topic, but just to clear that one up. Ryu made that “body” comment to Balrog on the Udon comic (at the fight in Ken and Eliza’s dinner), not on the Kanzaki comic/manga, in the later, Ryu just tells Balrog how good he was in his prime years but lamented on how “now” Balrog was just a mere thug trying to build up his own “Vegas” and then proceeded to beat him down with a Hadoken, I really like that comic I must say
Ah, wasn’t really confusing it with Udon, just remembering things wrong. Martial artists telling boxers in manga and anime how their moves are limited due to them only using their fists happens a lot, definitly seen this more than once. I can’t come up with any other examples off the top of my head right now. Well it’s also that boxers are usually pretty low on the chain of other people the heroes have to beat up before reaching the uber powered baddie that makes things hard to remember… even Mike Bison is the first boss you fight in SF2, not second or third.
Maybe you’re right. I was thinking it was because of cowardice originally, but everyone cheats for the win so it’s only out of fairness that Dudley do the same. Of course, it’s not out of the ordinary that almost anyone would take drastic measures in SF. If more Englishmen did that, they wouldn’t have to take any shit from Americans.
But still, Dudley’s considered limited in spite of how his fists can pop somebody up in the air by slamming into their feet, jump as high as a basketball player when juggling with uppercuts, and ALWAYS cross-counter when hit even by a knockout blow. Weird.
No problem. I can find the R. Mika tournament thing also, which I later verified to be an English only rewrite. For the Gouken pic, I first saw it three years ago in a fansite somewhere, with no mention of Udon or any other corporate body. I’ll check to see if I can find it again using Google. The pic was a gif called “True-Master-Gouken” if that means anything.
Kataklysmic - Well yeah in SF land Dan sucks, but if he existed in real life he could probably beat up about… let’s say 60% of SRK including myself.
Vasili10 - Ah it did exist elsewhere? Cool. That would explain his color scheme in the drawing not matching that of the toy. In the toy Gouken has gray eyebrows, a beard that starts out gray and turns white and his gi is gray. In the drawing his eyebrowns are dark brown, his beard is brown and and his gi is brown. The background behind him is a reddish brown too and his beads are brown. Given how flesh is a lighter shade of brown the entire drawing is monochromatic - all shades of the same color.
Yeah, been over a year since her last activity. She had made a Gouken’s daughter drawing that I tried to get her to show, and she ended up digging out the pic with Ataru’s sketch and the redone Sakura sprites together with Siegfried’s insignia.
Off topic but whatever since I always go off topic anyway. A bunch of pictures I took at the New York Digital Life Show, there’s at least some SF game screens in here.
