Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Whoops! That pic of Gen I mentioned is the same as his first picture in his SFA2 ending and can probably be seen at the VG museum. Sorry!

Personally I doubt that it’s Q in Ken’s SF2 background and here’s why.

First, the man is cheering! Can you picture emotionless robotlike Q cheering?

True, Q witnessed the fall of Shadowloo, but as stated before, Shadowloo actually fell in SFA3. After that incident, there was no Psycho Drive, no Dolls, no Four Lords of Shadowloo and Vega was reborn much weaker. Now, if that’s not a “fall” I don’t know what is. This is why it’s conjectured that when Urien credits Chun-Li with “the legs that destroyed Shadowloo” he’s talking about Chun-Li’s SFA3 envolvement since it’s more likely that Guile won the Tourney.

Argueably, I’m sure most would rather beleive that Q witnessed Shadowloo’s defeat (either by watching the Tourney winner defeat Vega, Gouki kill Vega or Mike Bison mismanage the company - don’t know about that last one…) during SF2 since SFA3 and SF3 Third Strike seem very unconnected. If that’s the case, I doubt it all went down on Ken’s stage!

Just my opinion.

Well SFA2 basically ret-conned the concept of Four Shadoloo Lords right out of existence. At best you have one (Vega) and his two designated henchmen.

I seriously doubt that that random background figure is Q. Not unless Capcom decided to put a Tekkaman (the inspiration for Q’s design) into one of their backgrounds on a whim.

Well, I think its pretty much a fact that its not Q - when taken out of the storyline context. Like others have said, there is no way Capcom would plan this far ahead. C’mon, SFII came out around 92 and TS came out around 97/98. Knowing what we know of Capcom, there is just no way they would be this prepared.

However, when discussing storylines, I think the dude being Q can be a possibility. It won’t surprise me at all if Capcom sees that pic and says that the trenchcoat man is in fact Q. Personally, I would like to believe that it is Q. C’mon, how many trenchcoat and hat wearing guys with gray faces can there be in the SF world ;). And its not like him being seen in Ken’s stage is going to effect any existing storylines. If anything, its just more of a link between the two SF series.

Not really storyline related, but check out madman’s cafe - www.mmcafe.com - they have pics of the new Capcom game. It’s in 3d and has 3 new characters. The confirmed known characters are Ryu, Chunli, Haggar (Yeah!!), Charlie, Strider, and Akira. Looks like it’ll be interesting.

That’s about it, please return to storyline discussions

PHAT!!! Unfortunately, it’s in 3-D. Oh well, I’ll take it since I haven’t played Ryu and Chun-Li in a new game all year! Just hope Capcom’s not abandoning 2-D, but with more and more systems not being able to handle it properly, plus the fact that Rockman X, Breath of Fire and Jojo are all going 3-D, it feels like the end is near. On a lighter note, the new characters look phat!!! Who says Capcom can’t design characters anymore!!!

O.K., I’ll be in Otaku bliss for the rest of the day…

What machines can’t handle 2D properly nowadays? Naomi is certainly capable of 2D, don’t you think?

Then we have PS2, GameCube and Xbox, all of which are getting arcade perfect Naomi conversions (GGX, MvC2 and CvS2). Problem solved. If someone wants to make 2D games on current machines, the technology certainly isn’t a problem.

Well, CVS2 still looks better on Dreamcast than it does on PS2. Have to wait and see on the Gamecube Version.

That’s Capcom’s lousy ports (emulators) for you. But Guilty Gear X is a perfect port and 2D-wise it’s even heavier to handle.

Wow. Capcom All Stars game is not a myth. Who woulda thought…

On a side note, it’s been more than four years since the last brand new storyline canon game (brand new, so Revival and FFOne don’t count). Ah well. Wow, time passes fast.

Tiamat, in your faq, you say the US martial arts championship takes place every 5 years, well I believe it’s 6 years.

SF1 tourney takes place in 1987, and Ken was at the US martial arts tourney in 1987.

the US martial arts tourney then took place in 1999, the year of when 3S took place. Now Ken won 3 championships, so the championship before 1999, was 1993, I assume before the SF2 tourney because Ken met Eliza in the SF2 tourney, and din’t train as much as he used to after that.

Now since Ken won the record of winning 3 straight times, the person before that must have won 2, and the last person to win before was Charlie. So he must have won the championship in 1975, and 1981. That might hint Charlie’s age. I thought he would be as old as Guile, but if he was, he would’ve been 14 or 15 if he won it. Is there an age restriction in the US martial arts tourney? Since Sean was probably 17 when he entered the tourney.

Ken met Eliza during, or before, Alpha. In Alpha 2 Eliza is assisting Ken as he trains, so I think he’s been with her for a while already.

Charlie is probably a few years older, since he has higher rank and even trained Guile. I could see him winning the championship at 17 or 18.

Siegfried - Regarding what you said about PS2 being able to handle 2D - Cool! That’s good to know!

Well, for now I’ll just continue to hope that the much rumored Marvel vs. DC Game if released is 2D. Just read the great DC vs. Marvel 1996 crossover battle Graphic Novel to get hyped up about it!

Actually I think it all it says is that Ken won 3 the tournament 3 times in a row, a feat no one had ever accomplished.

That doesn’t Charlie didn’t win back to back championships NOR does it mean that he did.

I don’t think Charlie COULD have won back to back tournaments because of his military service. He probably won the tournament in 1981(if that’s the correct date) and then enlisted.

I don’t think Sean’s age could be used as reference. I believe he was born in Brazil and is considered a Brazilian citzen and would have different rules for entering then a native American.

Does anybody know the name of the little girl Chun Li found in third strike?

Guys, If SFA1 & 2 are the same game, storyline-wise, then why does Ken meet Eliza for the 1st time in his A1 ending and is in a relationship with her during A2? Can someone answer that?

I doubt “Smith” is Guy’s last name, 'cuz wouldn’t his last name be Japanese? TarkanX, what site are those stats from?

I just read something at a Google message group that I found a little interesting.

The Gamest special issue called “All Capcom 1991” (published in 1992) states/mentions that Retsu’s a Japanese monk who practices the Shaolin style. Another source called “The Complete File Street Fighter II”, published by Asahi in 1992, also supports this claim.

I also found out that ‘Shorinji’ is the Japanese pronounciation of the Chinese characters for ‘Shaolin Temple’. Interesting.

Only some of the events of Alpha1 happen at all and those events take place prior to Alpha 2 but both take place within one year.
