Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Something I talked about a while ago and wanted to do on a rainy day, so you can guess what the weather is like outside… this is about the blood types chosen for SF characters but it goes across the board for Japanese video game, anime and manga characters. Japanese don’t randomly assign blood types to characters, it’s kind of like our Horoscope system where if we create a character we might assign them a Horoscope sign and write him or her to fit the characteristics of said sign. Using the SF plot guide to get the blood types, the rest of this “BLOODY PERSONALITIES” article comes from an old Smile issue #3.1 back in December 2000 that described the various blood types. Apparently Japan doesn’t get into the whole positive and negative blood types to further describe the personalities, just keeps it simple with the 4. I’ll put any SF Plot guide characters in parenthesis.

BLOODY PERSONALITIES

Have you ever wondered why manga artists(video game artists/creators and anime artists/creators) always mention blood types when they introduce characters? Well, you’re not alone. In Japan, some people believe that your blood type influences your personality, kind of like a person’s star signs.

Type O - Type O’s are strong, energetic and good leaders. (Birdie, Balrog(Ninja), Captain Commando, Cody, Dan, Dhalsim, Feilong, Freddie, Gen, Guile, Guy, Rainbow Mika, Rolento, Ryu, T.Hawk, Sakura is Type O only in Rival Schools, in SF she’s A)

Type A - Type A’s tend to be soft spoken, perfectionists, trustworthy, a bit brainy, and not very social. (Hoover/Baby Commando, Mike Bison(Boxer), Chun-Li, Edmond Honda, Sakura, Sodom, Won Won, Vega(cape), Zangief)

Type B - Type B personalities are curious, social, but kind of unreliable. (Adon, Blanka, Cammy, Juli, Karin, Ken, Maki, Retu, Sagat, Yun)

Type AB - Although social outcacsts, type AB’s are natural leaders and are sensitive, cautious, disciplined, and sentimental, but they often hold grudges. (Bratken, Nash, Deejay, Eagle, Sho/Ninja Commando, Juni)

Blood types listed as ‘Unknown’ for SFers - Gouki(Akuma) and Rose. Ingrid’s blood type is unknown too. Phillipe of FF2’s blood type is also listed as unknown. FF2 seems like the only FF game that used blood types. Only SF3 character that has one is Yun because he was in CVS2 and SFZ3. No SF1 blood types aside from those who graduated to other games. No Slammasters blood types. And Captain Commando used blood types too.

Jennety/Mummy Commando’s blood type is “Blend.” I guess that’s 'cuz he’s an alien, lol!

sano: Sure thing. Ingrid to Vega’s is nothing too fancy; she’s just using her tried and true figurative language saying to him he thinks she’s just gonna sit by with her hands tied amidst all the havoc he wreaks (including now with the light of Double Upper and the psycho drive I suppose).

TiamatRoar: Nothing in the bio above about Maki liking Guy, and I’m not sure that was ever the case, retcon or otherwise. Having Guy’s favor means that she can always count on him, but with the rough and competitive attitude she has, everytime they meet they squabble like siblings.
A small crude relations/interactions chart is found in the premier issue of Club Capcom for FF2, links Haggar to Cody, Guy, Carlos, and Jessica, etc. Maki’s connected only to Rena and Genryusai in this chart but not Guy, and strangely Guy and Carlos are connected for some reason, maybe because they’re the male Japanese style fighters? Dunno.

aerialgroove: It is Katoh, and the bottom of the columns gives years: to the left is Capcom 1991 aka the year of SF2 WW, to the right the manga Teito Monogatari/Doomed Megalopolis published in 1988. Katoh is older than Vega.

Thanks vasili10!

Sano, I don’t know about M.Bison and Sakura being soft spoken or more of perfectionist than Ryu. Maybe Capcom went by the chances a character from a certain country would have based on real blood types of that area.

Here’s a pic from the SFIII movie/show cast:

Name all characters if you feel like it!

Anything new about Rama and the scan?

Really doubt it since even by area/nationality a lot of those blood types vary(and I don’t think Capcom is gonna do that kind of research…) Some characters like Vega(cape) seemed to change over time, like he’s no longer like he was back in SF2 and it doesn’t seem like they will alter someone’s blood type (with Sakura being an exception, but just in RS). He’s still a perfectionist in his way and so is Sakura. Note that there probably isn’t a system that will describe every single thing about a character with 100% accuracy, even Horoscope signs are not exactly perfect.

But a lot of these Blood Types are typical anime/manga ones. The leaders/protagonists usually get O. The best friends usually get B. The more you start to look at the blood types of anime and manga characters (and video game ones too) the more you’ll see it. Look up your favorite one!

I sent you scans 60-70 of the Saiki stuff right? Did you upload them?

That picture owns!

Sure thing aerialgroove.

Who knows for Ramah? I sure as heck don’t. Dash no Chris is off on his own as well.:arazz:

Hey Tiamat, what did Hatsumomo provide concerning HnN? Also any thoughts about the Zero 3 stages I mentioned above?

sano: update your sig for 4.4.

Hugo looks a bit more Andre-ish than usual there. Very cool picture, it took me a little while to work out the guy in the Twelve outfit, though. >D Necro with his arm prop, and Gouki holding his wig… great stuff.

I’m pretty sure it was Saiki that mentioned the Guy Maki unrequited love thing there but of course my memory could always be wrong. Hrm… guess I’ll have to check into that. checks Damn, Google is friggin’ useful for this sort of thing. Anyways, apparently I took it from Golden Dragon who took it from Street Fighter World or Red Cyclone, which are both Japanese sites that are very reliable. But I suppose that does make this one a bit suspect. I’ll add some disclaimers on where I got it to the next update.

Carlos does have a connection to Guy, although I’m not sure what it is. In Final Fight 2, he specifically says to Haggar, “I owe you and Guy so much” indicating he knows Guy and more. Of course, this assumes Capcom USA didn’t add that in themselves (although I’m pretty sure Saiki mentioned they were friends as well which is why I have that written down in the guide)

Hatsumomo clarified some translations of the Secret File articles thanks to a friend of his (Ibuki’s rescue story, I believe), but I don’t remember the specific HnN stuff he gave me. Maybe it was just Secret File stuff.

I’m pretty sure I took the stages for SFA3 from here:

http://www.arcade-history.com/index.php?page=detail&id=3443

Apparently, the Japanese version of SFA3 actually states the stage locations within the game.

That’s a nice blood type summary, Sano. I think I’ll add it if at least as a curiousity since there isn’t much other reason for people to bother cooking up a blood type for a character unless they’re just feeling THAT random :stuck_out_tongue:

Looking at Red Cyclone’s Maki section, he made an erroneous assumption there, along the lines of the typo with English Eternal and grandfather Gen. Wrong “koi” led to a “what the, Maki likes Guy” statement by him, using the exact same sentence I read from the guidebook as the basis.

I see now with Carlos and Guy, thanks for reminding me. And I was wondering if anyone else shared from HnN, guess not.

The guide credits Brandon Gordon for Guile’s stage, so did he tell you about arcade-history.com’s page? I can’t say for sure but there’s now an English source and a Japanese source that say differently for the same Jap. editions of the game. So can anyone with a console version of Zero 3 besides the GBA one clear this up? Granted both sites have/had flaws of their own, but beside that point:

Is Guile’s SFZ3 stage “Name Unknown” or “Nevada Ghost Valley”?

For the time being I vouch for candidate A.

Are you sure the site meant the official name of Guile’s stage was “Name Unknown” instead of the site simply… not knowing the name and thus saying “Name Unknown”?

Brandon Gorden… hmm, I honestly forget Oo I think he’s the one that pointed me to there. I specifically remember copying and pasting from there so I guess that was what happened.

…you can tell that citations and footnotes were my weak point when doing reports in school.

That’s good to know about Maki. Was starting to wonder how something THAT big didn’t show up somewhere in SFA3 MAX where there isn’t any indication of Maki having a romantic interest in Guy whatsoever.

Yeah, been meaning to get around that.

Aerialgroove - Oh, that’s what you meant about Saiki and the scan… I haven’t talked to Saiki in a while. The last time was when I was when I had asked him if I could use his CFAS intro translation for me and vas’s CFE faq which he said I could. He told me once before that he doesn’t post here as often because he feels that people here know SF’s storyline really well now, I still asked him to come back anyway a few times, at least I miss hearing from him as a friend, but to no avail. I still don’t know what’s up with that sketch and when/if we are ever going to see it…

I haven’t seen Saiki at Gamefaqs in a while, but I just might be missing the game forums he’s at. He posts at MMCAFE too but it’s kind of rare.

This is what the page said:

Guile
Home Stage: Name Unknown [U.S.A.]

I thought about the latter, but how could the webmaster not catch it when he had everyone’s (console characters also) quotes and stages listed? I’ve been told he painstakingly got everything from playing the games over and over, and grabbing stage names wouldn’t be anywhere near as difficult as say grabbing unpublished quotes which he did, every single one. I dunno.

aerialgroove- SFZ3 Secret File stuff would be nice if you could find the time.

So, am I the only one who’s ignoring Ingrid in SFZ3? I’ve heard nobody say much about Eagle or Yun being in the game (maybe because Yun in particular doesn’t make sense), but Ingrid traveling through time and flying off into outer space is like, perfectly acceptable? As canon?

About the Guile thing…I don’t have a copy of SFZ3 around anymore, and I don’t remember what it said for Guile’s stage. The stage being unknown doesn’t sound familiar…I think I remember something about a train, but I’m probably just thinking of Birdie’s stage (Train Cemetery). If he has the stage info for the other console-only characters it’d be safe to assume that Guile’s would be correct also.

…however. In the home versions of SFZ3 you will only fight the console-only characters (T.Hawk, Dee Jay, Guile, E.Ryu, Fei Long, Juli and Juni individually) if you are playing one of those characters yourself. So maybe he just never ran into Guile, or not often enough to get his stage name. I would bet that Guile’s stage does have a name, as none of the stages in SFZ3 have “???” or something like that written as their location, even Bison. So “unknown” probably just means he didn’t write it down, not that it’s at an unknown location. Or maybe, since it was in katakana, the guy at the Japanese fansite didn’t want to put it up without a translation of what it meant, and never got around to it, etc.

Anakaris talking smack in that CFJ quote… …wtf is Jedah talking about? The Ingrid quote to Bison would refer to his general evil-ness, I’d think, especially considering Ingrid wasn’t in SFZ3 at that point, and is only in the PSP version which came out a year later. I read it more as “considering making me deal with your evil TOO” or “making me deal with MORE evil,” not that Ingrid and Bison had met before. Seems to make more sense that way.

Is Ryu’s quote a reference to SnH, or just a general statement of not giving up/being tempted by Bison (the latter coming from the storyline the Alpha games adopted of Bison wanting Ryu to work for him, one way or another). If anything, Bison’s quote to Ryu would be an SnH reference, but is just as likely a statement of “untapped power,” yadda yadda.

Anyway, thanks for the translations, always interesting.

Oh snap! I forgot about those, thanks for reminding me!
If I don’t upload it within 3 days I probably forgot to, remind me then.
If you want to, you can link to the URL that I put Tiamat’s guide up. Only if you want of course, just thought since it doesn’t change with each version.
http://fightingstreet.com/folders/variousinfofolder/variousinfopages/streetfighterplotguide.txt

Almost done with the Secret File.

Regarding SFZ3 I have the Sega Dreamcast version (Jap), but I don’t have my Dreamcast here, I’ll check later.

Cool, I’ll use your link in my sig. Us non premiums can only use up to 300 characters in out sig so I had to shorten the descriptions of the links a bit. The Psychochronic one is their as a favor to him since he asked me to put it in my sig, talked to him a lot on Xbox live chat and he’s a good guy and all. And of course I gotta keep me and vas’s faq in their, heh heh! Anyway thanks!

Uploaded them, sano.

Change the “1” to 60-70 to see the new ones.

where can I get pictures of backgrounds of al the SF versions?

thanks

“Name Unknown” was in four kanji, two for each word. No katakana or ??? or just plain unknown aka the double combo used for many of Gouki’s stats or how the status of Chun Li’s father was/is printed, etc. This is why I’m led to think that what’s in the game is the four-character-chain.

Jedah’s speech I interpret as being he’s satisfied at having absorbed Guy after defeating him due to Guy having brains as well as talent. Speaks like a true Makai elitist, don’t he.

I feel Ryu’s quote to Vega is about SnH, since he mentions not surrendering to “this.”

Sure thing TS.

Nice. Thanks aerialgroove.

I forgot to add that Ingrid’s blood type is unknown too, fixed with an edit.

Aerialgroove - Thanks as usual! Only a few more Saiki pages to send on my end, then I’ll start sending you the pages I saved from the old Warrior’s Fate thread that got wiped out. Those pages I have aren’t cut off like the Saiki ones.

Vasili10 - Couldn’t get to updating the CFE faq today, will do so on the weekend or so. Along with your answers explaining Ingrid to Vega, Jedah to Guy and Ryu to Vega of course.

TS:

I’m in the “Ignore Ingrid in SFZ3” department as well.

IF she shows up in another SF game, then maybe. But as it is, her inclusion is just too silly.

re: Guile

Gah. I have the Saturn version, but my Saturn isn’t hooked up (and has trouble working). But I can’t even recall if I ever ran into Guile in arcade mode…

I find it rather odd if Capcom decided to make Guile’s stage “Name Unknown” when they made names for every other single character’s stage. “Name Unknown” is a name I’d think they’d give to Akuma or Vega (cape) or Ingrid or some other character with some aura of mysteriousness, not Guile. Why would Guile of all people get a “Name Unknown” stage when Capcom was more than happy to make names for the other console-only characters? That just doesn’t make much sense to me.

I figured that Capcom probably figured that they’re never going to revisit Psycho Power anyways so they just don’t care anymore (therefore, Ingrid is as “official” as you want her to be).
