Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Still wondering about Strider… there were some nice links for him at Wikipedia.

This link has lots of info, unfortunatly there was next to no information on Strider 2 regarding it’s storyline. Can’t verify much of the information here but as you may know Strider was a manga before it was a game, Capcom went to Moto Kikaku and artist/writer Tatsumi Wada to create a character for them and that’s how Strider came about. Rey of Studio Udon said he wanted to do a Strider comic being a huge fan of the series, but Erik Ko told him that the rights for Strider are one of most complex of Capcom’s properties. Seems like Moto Kikaku has final say in how Strider is used, Capcom always credits them whenever they use Strider. Anyway, I’m assuming a lot of the information on this site comes from the mangas, or game information I’m not aware of. Here it describes Ton Pooh and her sisters as clones, which would very well explain their return. And guess what, aside from the ship Balrog in both games(heh heh, you know like Balrog the ninja…) there’s also a Joe in part 1! The pirate, Captain Beard is said to have originally been called Captain Joe. Now that I think about it, with Viewtiful Joe, Super Joe, SF1 Joe, Joseph Gibson, Capcom seems to have a few Joes… Anyway, according to this site Hiryu was very young, at least during part 1.

This one’s about Strider 2, mostly stresses that it’s a sequel and not a remake… so yeah somehow Hiryu comes back after 2,000 years…

Swear I’ll talk about Street Fighter next time…

Do you know where I can get useful info about Journey To The West and if the main character is called Son Goku, too?

My Akibado stuff should be here soon!

It doesn’t look like anyone commented on this, so just to throw in my two cents…

The difference between “jutsu” forms of a martial art and “do” forms is one that comes up sometimes in the context of sword arts. The “jutsu” form is one intended for practical application; the samurai of ancient Japan learned kenjutsu, the practical art of using a sword in a fight. “Do” forms have been streamlined, stylized, and boiled down to their essentials in order to provide some of the experience of a fight without actually fighting. “Do” arts are generally intended for self-improvement, “moving meditation,” and so forth. Modern sword artists generally learn kendo, a form of swordfighting which is good for exercise and competition but which would not be practical for use in an actual battle.

I would say that both Ken and Ryu practice a “jutsu” form of their art. Although they’ve taken their style in different directions, both are developing a practical, fight-usable version. Neither sees their art as strictly a form of physical or mental exercise.

Me and Dhylec Blade AKA Capcommunist of Snk-capcom and Gamefaqs have been talking about Capcom characters and stuff with similar names. So along with all of the Joes -

Capcom had a racing game called Mad Gear. That’s where the name of the Mad Gear gang comes from.

As you prolly know they have 2 Ryus, one for SF and one for BOF.

And with Final Fight Streetwise they have 2 Kyles. The other Kyle is the main character from the game 2010. Which was released here in the US as SF 2010 and called the main character Ken.

Well, this post was a little SF related…

I remember having some images of the japanese version of 2010 and the main character was named Kevin…I’m pretty sure about it altough I have to search my PC to find the pics and confirm it, but at least take the posibility as a grain of salt until then.

Ah, I was just going by Dhylec Blade’s word but I checked it out, you’re right, his name’s Kevin, DB was thinking of a game that wasn’t a Capcom game, whoops… :china:

Thanks, Circular! Yea, it doesn’t seem to make much sense then since Ryu’s style obviously has practical use.

Mad Gear

I guess that’s why the girl to the left wears a Mad Gear shirt, not because of the gang:

Just read through ten pages worth of posts. Some comments:

“Ryu’s photo in Hayato’s ending was officially stated to be a joke on how similar Ryu looks to Hayato. Given that’s the only remotey SF-related thing in the game, that means you can probably scratch Star Gladiator off the list.”

I haven’t played Plasma Sword in ages but I remember that Eagle looks pretty damn identical to Ken when he takes off his bird gear.

“Avengers - No storyline timeline specified. Known as Hisatsu Buraiken in Japan.”

Didn’t anyone else notice that that is almost the name of one of Dan’s supers?

aerialgroove, you have the Final Fight 2 official guidebook right? Could you plz scan Haggar, Maki and Carlos’ profiles/bios and post them here when/if u get tha chance? Thanks!

Ah, totally missed that one…

It’s just that I’m almost 100% sure that one of you posted, that both Hayato and Jin officially “might” be related to Ryu in some way (being his descendants). It was stated somewhere, I already tried to search for it but this $@#! search engine doesn’t allow words like “Ryu” with only three letters and also never finds what I look for so I gave up.
I remember that we then thought about who his woman could be and how fresh it would be if it was Oujo-san or what name we gave her. And I’m sure sano wanted it to be Chun-Li, can’t remember though.

There you go.

Aerialgroove - I remember the conversation but I don’t recall anyone saying Hayato and Jin’s connection was ‘maybe official,’ just conjecture. But my memory is fuzzy as all hell…

I don’t mean “maybe official” I mean officially “maybe”, eh?

I wish SRK would make a better search function soon, most questions newcomers ask can be solved by searching but it never works well and nobody has time to read through thousands of posts.

Still don’t recall… sounds like something I would say, I’ll take blame for it if you want.

But I sort of remember going into my whole Marvel Universe / Dragon Ball Z Alternate Futures thing that may or may not happen routine…

Thanks, Siegfried!

Anyone remember where Akuma was mentioned to be around 48 during SSF2X? I have that written down in the plot guide but forget where it came from

Take your pick: AAC, Fanbook, HnN, Super X pre-mook, Super X mook, and just about any other place with strictly Super X Gouki stats.

Hey Siegfried, is your site down or something?

Ah, cool, thanks! It just seemed kinda odd that Akuma’s age was known when nothing else was, so I wanted to make sure I didn’t accidentally make that number up

Sure thing. It’s known as much as the words “around” or “approximately” allow it to be known. His DOB is listed as [Month ?? Day ?? Year 19?? (around/approximately 48?)] as opposed to say Vega’s DOB: [Month 04 Day 17 Year ???].

Hence I’ve said Gouki’s around 48 when Vega’s offed and around 28 when Goutetsu bought it.

I see also that Strider site also states that the “Strider holding a teddy bear” thing in Ken’s SFA2 stage is a homage to the programmer who tried to do the SuperGrafX version of Strider. It didn’t say he comitted suicide though.

http://strider.classicgaming.gamespy.com/history.html

Edit: It does say on the “Games” page that the SupeGrafx version didn’t get completed due to “unexpected death”.

And vasili, surely where M.Bison/Vega got killed by Gouki took place on his stage, the Shadaloo temple? Where also presumeably the final finals took place, even if the others didn’t?
