Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

I have no idea how the US console version went about naming the character, but CCC (which only deals with arcade versions) points out that they are the same guy.

As far as the games being unrelated, (all Super Joe games being the same guy for that matter) I think Super Joe was like Capcom’s Mario. They’d just stick him into a bunch of games, weither or not they had anything to do with each other didn’t matter, it’s kind of up to you if you want to believe it’s the same guy or not.

I’ll go completly OT soon, check the CCC games he’s in, and whatever timeline dates I can get out of CCC…

Edit: The Nes verison of bionic commando is complete different from the arcade version

I’m pretty sure Bionic Commando’s storyline was changed for the US version to be rescuing Super Joe so they could remove the Hitler reference in the Japanese intro.

I guess they figured that censors would have a problem with a mission to go explode Hitler’s head.

The funny thing is that Hitler’s exploding head is still in the American version, anyways.

An aside, I found where Dash no Chris said in this thread that the setting for Captain Commando is Metro City 2026, but I saw that on both English and Japanese flyers the story mentioned settings being the earth as a whole during A.D. 2026 was racked with crime, no Metro City in either spot. Can anyone say where Metro City came from? Is it by chance the first game stage which the faqs on Gamefaqs call simply “City”?

Super Joe’s Hair color is most likey black

No, I mean this one http://fightingstreet.com/folders/variousinfofolder/secretfilesfolder/secretfilespics/secretfile25.jpg
3rd Strike.

I’ve been trying to track down where it could be stated that it’s Metro City, myself. Although it’s kinda hard for me to believe that the thing takes place across the whole world judging by the map. The Ninja House is obviously NOT in Japan while the city is in America for the simple reason that they’re both on the same chunk of land and continent, for example.

Pretty sure “City” is the actual name of the stage, too. They’re named in the map, I believe.

Dash no Chris stated the Metro City part as separate from his translation of the Japanese web page that brought up the subject, right? It looked like that to me. Hmm.

Well, after looking through the entirety of Google “Captain Commando” “Metro City” results, the most I could find was this, from an old Final Fight FAQ last updated in 2003 (before the Plot Guide started going around saying Captain Commando took place in Metro City)

“In addition to the rewritten full audio voiceovers with lip-synching and no
scrolling text, the introduction now features several changes to the story
screens. The map of the city [Tiamat note: Metro City. He’s talking about Final Fight One’s intro right now] pulsates with an odd Martian glow (They had a
space program? That explains Captain Commando),”

Now, presumably, the guy didn’t just pull Captain Commando taking place in Metro City (an assumption needed for that paragraph above) out of his ass. After all, WHY would anyone pull such a thing out of their butt, anyways? Metro City and Captain Commando generally aren’t things that even the most deranged SF-Plotguide-less Videogamespot.com fanfic author would begin to imagine, so it’s likely that FAQ writer got Captain Commando taking place within Metro City from SOMEWHERE (yea, the paragraph is mostly jesting about the odd martian glow, but somehow someway the author got the idea that Captain Commando takes place in Metro City when making that joke).

Maybe it’s in the instruction manual or something (of which I haven’t been able to find a copy of online anywhere).

What’s that? Seems to be pretty thin.

Captain Commando’s History on Capcom Classics Collection Remixed. Yeah, I knew I read about Jenetty being an alien here:

CAPTAIN COMMANDO

YEAR: 1991
GENRE: SCROLLING FIGHTER
PLAYERS: 4 PLAYER CO-OP
HARDWARE: CPS-JAMMA
ORIGINAL SOUND: AMPLIFIED STEREO

CAPTAIN COMMANDO, RELEASED BY CAPCOM IN 1991, WAS THE LATEST-AND-GREATEST IN THEIR SERIES OF BEAT-EM UP BRAWLERS. THE STORY CHRONICLES THE ADVENTURES OF 4 INTERGALACTIC SPACE RANGERS, THE COMMANDOS, ENFORCERS OF PEACE THROUGH OUT THE GALAXY, CAPTAIN COMMANDO, THE TEAM LEADER, USES A BIONIC SUIT TO ATTACK WITH POWERED PUNCHES OF ELECTRICITY AND FIRE, GINZU THE NINJA USES HIS SWORD TO SLICE ENEMIES IN HALF. MACK THE KNIFE LOOKS LIKE A MUMMY, BUT HES ACTUALLY AN ALIEN WHOSE DEFEATED FOES TURN INTO SLELETONS BEFORE THEY DISINTEGRATE. FINALLY THERE IS BABY HEAD, A TWO-YEAR-OLD GENIUS WHO HAS BUILT HIS OWN ROBOT SUIT TO FIGHT IN. THE FOUR COMMANDOS CHASED THE ALIEN CRIMINAL SCUMOCIDE TO EARTH, AND NOW IT IS UP TO THEM TO STOP HIM AND HIS NEFARIOUS GANG.

IN CAPTAIN COMMANDO YOU USE A VARIETY OF COMBO ATTACKS, JUMPING ATTACKS, AND DASHING ATTACKS TO PUMMEL THE ENEMIES OF JUSTICE. BESIDES THE VARIOUS POINT AND HEALTH ITEMS HIDDEN IN BARRELS THROUGHOUT THE GAME, YOU CAN ALSO PICK UP SOME POWERFUL AND USEFUL WEAPONS LIKE GRENADE LAUNCHERS, LASERS, AND ROBOT SUITS THAT WILL AID YOU FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. WHEN YOU KNOCK SOMEONE OUT OF THEIR ROBOT SUIT, YOU CAN JUMP IN AND PILOT IT UNTIL IT IS DESTROYED, AUGMENTING YOUR HEALTH.

LITTLE KNOWN FACTS: THE JAPANESE NAMES FOR GINZU, MACK AND BABY ARE SHO, JENNETY, AND HOOVER RESPECTIVELY.

IN THE CONSOLE VERSION OF SECTION Z, THE HERO IS CREDITED AS BEING CAPTAIN COMMANDO.

I side it before but the Robot Suits you pick up and pilot for a short time are the same ones from Megaman X. Here’s Section Z’s History from Capcom Classics Collection Remixed -

SECTION Z

YEAR: 1985
GENRE: SCROLLING SHOOTER
GAMEPLAY: SINGLE PLAYER
HARDWARE: Z80 BASED
ORIGINAL SOUND: MONO

SECTION Z WAS RELEASED IN 1985 FOR THE ARCADE AND LATER ONTO HOME CONSOLES. AS THE SOLE ASTRONAUT, YOU MUST PENETRATE THE ALIeN BALANGOOL SPACECRAFT AND DESTROY THE EVIL “L-BRAIN.” IN ORDER TO FIND THE LAIR YOU MUST MAKE YOUR WAY THROUGH 27 ALPHABET-LABELED LEVELS IN THIS HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL SCROLLING SHOOTER. UNIQUE TO SECTION Z WAS THE CHANGE IN SCROLLING DIRECTION AFTER A SECTION BOSS WAS DEFEATED: SECTIONS A THROUGH E SCROLL RIGHT TO LEFT, SECTIONS F THROUGH J SCROLL TOP TO BOTTOM, ETC.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT: THE HOME CONSOLE VERSION OF THIS GAME WAS VERY DIFFERENT IN THAT IT WAS NOT LINEAR, RATHER, YOU HAD TO PICK A DIRECTION (AND HOPEFULLY THE RIGHT ONE!) AT THE END OF EACK LEVEL IN ORDER TO PROCEED.

THE HERO IN THE HOME VERSION IS CALLED “CAPTAIN COMMANDO.”

Both were very careful to point out that the hero was called Captain Commando only on the console versions. The guy in the arcade had no name. Both games are very different, and the main characters of each game looked different too.

Hey, anyone remember Capcom’s original design of Captain Commando? They used to put him on the back of old Capcom Nes games since he was their mascot, before they actually made him a game character. He had black’gray wavey hair, his chest was exposed, a sword in one hand and a gun in another hand. If memory serves, it was a long time ago…

Super Joe games on Capcom Classics Collection Remixed -

The Speed Rumbler - Super Joe’s first appearance, the game was released in 1986. From the game’s history it takes place in the “…NOT-TO-FAR FUTURE IN A POST APOCALYPTIC ERA, AND THE WORLDS POPULATION NOW LIVES IN SMALL RURAL AREAS.” For little known fact it says, “THE SUPER JOE IN THE SPEED RUMBLER IS NONE OTHER THAN THE SAME SUPER JOE IN BIONIC COMMANDO AND IN COMMANDO.”

Bionic Commando - Quicky notes about it from it’s history - “THE ARCADE VERSION OF BIONIC COMMANDO WAS RELEASED IN 1987 AND SPARKED THE BEGINNING OF ONE OF CAPCOM’S BIGGEST CULT CLASSICS. BIONIC COMMANDO IS CONSIDERED BY MANY CAPCOM EMPLOYEES TO BE ONE OF THE HARDEST CAPCOM TITLES EVER RELEASED FOR THE ARCADE. THE HOME CONSOLE VERSION OF THIS TITLE IS VASTLY DIFFERENT FROM THE ARCADE BUT BOTH FOCUSED ON THE ULTIMATE MILITARY WEAPON, SUPER JOE, WHO ORIGINATED FROM COMMANDO.” So yeah, it was indeed Super Joe who was in both versions of Bionic Commando despite Capcom USA’s retconning. For a little known fact it says, “SUPER JOE ALSO MAKES AN APPEARANCE IN CAPCOM’S “THE SPEED RUMBLER” AND COMMANDO FOR THE ARCADE.” There is no storyline timeline indicated.

So he didn’t appear in Avengers, my bad… I’ll do Commando later and Mercs who had a guy named Joe in it (but he’s not called Super Joe there).

CCC storyline Timelines I can gather and other goodies -

Strider - 2048. Seen in the game’s opening intro. BTW Strider 2 takes place 100 plus years after Strider 1, I forget the exact year, I’ll look it up - the ending in Strider 2 reveals that it is the same Strider Hiryu of part 1, he doesn’t seem to age and may be immortal, so long as he’s not murdered.

Side Arms - Interesting note. You fly on a jetpack in this game called “Section Z.” This game was released in 1986, a year after Section Z. Which of course, wasn’t a jetpack in that game but an actual section. No storyline timeline given. From the little known fact: “THE PLAYER ONE SUIT APPEARS AS A BONUS ITEM IN OTHER CAPCOM GAMES SUCH AS SUPER BUSTER BROS., U.N. SQUADRON AND BLACK TIGER.”

Quiz & Dragons - It takes place in the past in the land of “CAPCONIA.” Obviously Medieval times.

Mega Twins - No storyline timeline specified, happens when the twins turn 15 years old. Obviously during Medieval times. Called Chiki Chiki Boys in Japan.

Magic Sword - Medieval times.

Legendary Wings - No timeline specified. I didn’t know Michelle Heart of MVC1 was one of the heores! I thought they got her from a dating sim game or something. Man I’m slipping…

Last Duel - The story is about twin planets Mu and Bacula far away from our corner of the Milky Way. So timeline kind of doesn’t matter(not specified anyway).

Forgotten Worlds - This game is supposed to take place in Dust World, but I have a hard time believing that Dust World is not Earth of the Future, seeing as how most of the bosses are Gods from Planet Earth. And of course Namco x Capcom pulls these guys from the future of Earth too. Just my 2 cents. No storyline timeline specified. This game featured Zenny, known as Capcom Money. Megaman Legends and Megaman Battle Network both use Zenny as currency too.

Final Fight, Street Fighter 1 - You know these already so moving along… Both FF Histories in CCC and CCC Remixed shouted out Final Fight Streetwise (course it’s the same exact history in both games anyway.) “FINAL FIGHT HAS SPAWNED NUMEROUS SPIN-OFFS FOR A VARIETY OF PLATFORMS INCLUDING THE UPCOMING FINAL FIGHT STREETWISE.”

Captain Commando - 2026. Not specified in the History but you can see it in one of the game’s arcade flyers that you unlock.

Block Block - Takes place “IN THE DAYS OF OLD WHEN THE GODS COMMUNICATED WITH THE PEOPLEM LIFE WAS PEACEFUL AND JOYOUS. ONE DAY HOWEVER, THE SKIES SUDDENLY CLOSED AND THE VOICES OF THE GODS COULD NO LONGER BE HEARD.” So the people sent a champion to one of their shrines to find out what that was about, so starts the game…

Black Tiger - Medieval times. Zenny (Capcom Money) is featured in ths game too. Little known facts: “THE JAPANESE NAME FOR BLACK TIGER IS BLACK DRAGON. CAN YOU FIND ALL THE CAMEO APPEARANCES BY CHARACTERS IN OTHER CAPCOM TITLES?” Don’t look at me… I haven’t played this game yet…

Avengers - No storyline timeline specified. Known as Hisatsu Buraiken in Japan.

1941 - This game takes place in 2125. Hey man, this off topic post is long and I’m tired. Takes place in 1941 of course.

Varth - Varth is the name of a human colony on a distant planet, so this game takes place faaaar into the future. Little known fact: “RYU FROM STREET FIGHTER II MAKES AN APPEARANCE IN THE GAME AS A SECRET! HIS ICON APPEARS IN STAGE 4, IN THE SOUTHEAST CORNER. SHOOT A PATCH OF FOUR TREES JUST BELOW WHERE TWO LARGE TANKS APPEAR. IF YOU FIRE ENOUGH SHOTS, RYU COMES OUT WITH A DRAGON PUNCH. CONTINUE SHOOTING FOR BONUS ITEMS.” Ack! I did not know this! Hmmm, I wonder what game Sano is going to play next…

Three Wonders - 3 games in one. They seem to take place long ago in a silly time everyone forgot about, or on another Earth/Universe entirely, typical RPG type setting, guns + castles and gods and such. Chariot of MVC1 and Siva/Shiva of Cannon Spike are from here as you prolly know.

I’ll do the PS2 version of CCC tomorrow.

can you please state the interveiw where capcom states how the characters would fight if they won’t restrict by the gameplay in your faq.

Dunno. Debating whether to get it or not, wishing someone would know something about it before I do.

TiamatRoar: Metro City’s map’s been pulsating like that since Final Fight first came out in the arcades, two years before Captain Commando’s debut. The only instruction manuals would be Japanese since the game wasn’t released elsewhere for the Super Famicom and the PS. Let’s see if Dash no Chris speaks.

It’s not the pulsating map that’s important (That was just a joke the writer was making) so much as the fact that for some reason, the writer is assuming that Captain Commando takes place in Metro City. I’m simply wondering where he got that from, since that doesn’t seem like something someone would just make up as it’s not like a rumour was going around about it or anything.

sagatryu: I think the interview about the moves from the DVD extras of the SFAlpha anime or something.

I am have a hard them trying to find that link I sent you ( I did send you link didn’t I ?

this was part of the the interveiw

Capcom: by third strike ryu has train himself so much that now he’s fast enough to dodge bullets.

edit: the move that ken use to crack the cybrog’s jaw in the alpha anime was the Sho Ryu Reppa

Hmm, if the interview did actually mention 3S, a likely place may be Arcadia. I know none of the interviews in Manga’s DVD talk about it; did the Japanese release offer different extra features?

well it might have been a interview on third strike and not the alpha movie.

edit: Yoshiki Okamoto was part of the interveiw through.

Hey Tiamat, there’s a paragraph in the guide under Sakura’s notes that talks a little about Chun Li which could probably be moved into Chun Li’s notes, the short sentence about her shoes. Also to correct a mistake I made, instead of Akiman who made an interview statement for Sakura’s look, it was planner Murata Haruo, sorry about that. All these are for the Gal’s Island #4 findings paragraph you inserted.

I never caught any Gamest interviews with Okamoto Yoshiki from the TOC’s. It could very well be in Arcadia.

Thanks, Vasili!

I’m hoping to get the newest plotguide update done before April ends. Maybe much earlier, depending on things. Just need to add in a few more notes I written down right now.
