Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

I’d normally wonder if Capcom would make FF:S not canon, myself, except… I find it rather doubtful that CoJ cares enough either way given that they were the ones that outsourced the thing in the first place and that there hasn’t been an actual new Final Fight game for about FIFTEEN YEARS before this. As opposed to Castlevania or Zelda, which are consistently popular series that could survive a couple bad games and were continued to be created by the parent company for the most part.

As it is, I’m feeling that we won’t see another Final Fight for a long looooong time. Possibly ‘Never’, even, if it weren’t for the whole “never say never” thing.

Wikipedia says that sources say that SF4 will be announced near the end of 2006. I’m skeptical and am wondering if people are saying this because 2006 is Street Fighter’s 20th anniversary (which is where Eternal said that there won’t be any SF games until the 20th anniversary at best. However, that is no guarantee whatsoever that there WILL be one).

Indeed, it is kinda hard for CoA to make any Street Fighter teams when they don’t even have a development team, now. Interesting that Studio 8 didn’t know what its next project would be when it got fired, as well, so they weren’t planning a new SF game.

Video Game Company corporate politics are a strange thing.

Random: Wikipedia says Jessica is seen alive and well in Final Fight 3. Anyone know what the heck it’s talking about? I didn’t notice any Jessica in the game, myself.

Yeah, I’m really ignoring the Wikipedia SF4 2006 announcement thing just because it’s Wikipedia lol!

Just got Capcom Classics Collection Remix for the PSP. According to the booklet (I’m at work as usual, can’t play yet) it does indeed have unlockable bonuses like the PS2 version. I’ll see if there’s SF1 bios I can unlock…

Tiamat:

DOn’t you mean “2007 is Street Fighter’s 20th anniversary”?

Though at this stage, it’s hard to tell when they’re counting from.

No bios in SF1 to unlock in CCC, but you can unlock the history of the game, lots of artwork including an old arcade flyer where you can see the back of a few Japanese’ people’s heads surrounding an SF1 machine and all of the music, pretty cool.

They made this an arcade port, it’s just like it. Uses 6 buttons like the 6 button machines. But like the arcade it’s hard to get the Fireball, Dragon Punch and Hurricane Kick to come out, you need precision timing. But the pay off is great! You can defeat your opponent with more or less 2 of these moves! It’s really hard so far, I could only manage to get up to Adon who kept beasting on me, but I’ll be back…

Played Captain Commando on CCC. I didn’t know that those robots that Megaman X pilots that blow up after they take to many hits are from this game! It was funny how the Ninja House stage reminded me so much of Guy’s dojo in FF Streetwise, but I’ll still chalk it up to them being similar as a freaky coincidence if anything else.

Fun game, good times!

I think that 2006 was stated to be the 20th anniversary in Street Fighter Eternal? That’s what I have written down in the plot guide, although I guess I could have been mistaken when I wrote it down. Regardless, I don’t think we’ll get an SF4 in either year, but then again, never thought we’d get a new Final Fight either so what do I know?

Sano: Far as I know, that IS Guy’s dojo in Captain Commando. Sho’s backstory is that his ninja clan was corrupted by an agent of Scumocide and Ginzu/Sho is rebelling against it, and assuming that Ginzu’s “Clan” was Guy’s Bushinryu clan (which it should be, given that Ginzu was Guy’s student") AND that Captain Commando takes place in Metro City, it probably is Guy’s dojo, then (and of course is a stage because the clan is on the bad guy’s side now).

Of course, this assumes that the whole “Ginzu is Guy’s student” thing is true, but I coulda sworn I saw confirmation for it a long time ago. Regardless, it’d be pretty interesting if Capcom of America was taking CC into account, because previously I thought CC couldn’t be canon because why on earth would a Bushinryu clan exist in Metro City? (A question that Streetwise answered).

Does it really look that similar? If Capcom of America took the design of the Dojo in Streetwise straight from Captain Commando, that’d be pretty telling. (And it’d make me even more sad at Studio 8’s closure)

reads a Captain Commando FAQ Hmm… I’ll have to check my list of Final Fight Streetwise character names when I get home. All of the enemy ninja names in Captain Commando might be the same as some of the names of members of Guy’s clan in Streetwise as well. I’m almost positive I’ve listed Kojiro and Yamato among them…

I wonder if they read the plot guide or something, given that they placed Haggar’s mayorship election date at the same year the plot guide did instead of the pre-retcon date (which is of interest because to this day they state 1989 as Final Fight’s date in Final Fight 1 ports). Hey, maybe Dr. Chang was named after me. Aw, Capcom of America decided to represent me as a seemingly good person who deep down is actually a psychotic crazy female mad scientist who revels in her own sick twisted creations. I’m touched!

It is the same??? WOW! That’s so cool!

Not only does the building itself look the same (the structure, you can see it in Captain Commando’s map) the entrance looks the same, the inside looks the same and there’s even an area where you fight, like where you train with Guy and fight Cammy/Lou. Of course it’s not exactly the same given you do 2 different things in both games, in Captain Commando you run through it side scrolling and in FFS you run around the building 3D style, and I think somethings are different, like CC might use stone to show part of the building and FFS might use wood but the structure is the same, looks close enough for you to tell that Studio 8 must of used it for reference when creating that stage. If not like I said, it would be a really freaky coincidence, but now I think not.

Hey, Dr. Chang is like the only major villain who survives FFS!

i think this is like waiting for the ‘november 5th’ . capcom is so scared on that year , they might fear that a psycho terrorist who’s obsessed with streetfighter gonna blow up their company for not realising sf4 …or making sf4 a crappy game .

Wow, I didn’t even think about the CC connection, but Guy’s story in Streetwise does tie into Captain Commando perfectly. After playing CC again, yes, the designs do look similar. The interiors are not exact, but similar. But the map screen of CC’s “Ninja House” the pagoda with the surrounding garden, the outside of Guy’s dojo in Streetwise looks just like that. The interior changes could easily be explained away by the fire. Seems Studio 8 really did do their homework.

There is actually dialogue on the disc (I am not sure if it is unused or not, but I have never heard it in the game) of an NPC saying “Remember when Guy and Haggar and Cody cleaned up this neighborhood back in '89? That was awesome.”

http://www.zshare.net/audio/0938-remember-when-wav.html

Are there any other rankings in the pit fights other than Bum and Amateur? Those are the only two I ever get. And just what is the criteria for the ranking?

Hmm… I never heard that dialogue bit, either. And I’ve had lots of npcs running up to me spouting their random jibber jabber. Of course, given that it doesn’t seem to be in the game, they possibly cut it out because they either realized it’s been retconned or decided that they didn’t want to go near whether or not it was retconned with a 10 foot pole, but I suppose we’ll never know. The whole “1982” for elections thing though is only possible when you consider the retcon, given both Haggar’s official age during slammasters compared to during Final Fight (Haggar was in the middle of elections for Slammasters), and how Haggar was running for mayor “5 years before Final Fight”.

…it’d be funny if they were going by post-retcon date for the election but accidentally used 1989 for Final Fight because it’s always 1989 in Final Fight ports. I can see why things would be confusing for them.

The emulated Final Fight One in Streetwise states “Sometime in the 90’s”, but we all know that’s what the original arcade Final Fight stated for the US version anyways.

I believe Guy’s Dojo in Streetwise has stone as well on the outside (at least, one of them does. There are sorta two of them. One that goes on fire and the one where you pit fight and train with Guy. I think the two might be connected to each other and thus be one and the same building as well) so it does seem to me that it’d be like Captain Commando’s, although I haven’t taken a look, myself.

Fortunately, I’ve made a project of mine to write down all the random names in Streetwise so I can at least confirm if Hanzo, Kojiro, Yamato, and Musashi show up among Guy’s ninjas (I’m almost sure I’ve seen amd written all four, though). Again, I’m positive that Sho or Ginzu does NOT show up among them, but that’s actually a good thing because he’d be too young during Streetwise (probably 8 years old).

I wonder if Guy’s dojo is named “Ninja House” in streetwise. If not in Story mode, maybe I’ll see if I can reach Japantown in Arcade mode and if there are any revelations there. Haggar combo-ing into piledrivers for the win!

Oh, and I’ve gotten “Contender” in a pitfight before but only once. $75 bonus money for it. I got it while trying to see all of Ghost’s taunts and just blocking and using counter attacks if he got too close. Match was more than two minutes long so apparently time isn’t a factor. I read a Streetwise review where someone said he got “Pro”, once. So it’s probably “Bum, Amateur, Contender, Pro”. I think my offense rating was 50% and my defense rating was 75%. Offense seems to be based on percentage of hits landed and defense on percentage of hits blocked but I’m not sure.

Nice. Is the flyer the same one you see in AAC p. 12 towards the bottom? I once saw that pamphlet up for bid, sold pretty well. Any pages inside it or just the cover is in the unlocked artwork?

Hey udoneko brought out the word that SFII #3 will be coming out hopefully two more Wednesdays from now. Can’t wait.

Yay SF Comic. It’s about time the Dolls come into things again, says I!

Although I still miss the grumpy surly one with all my heart :frowning:

Oh that’s why you changed your avatar? Gonna go back to the dolls when the comic resumes?

With the new SSF THE Sega Saturn emulator FINAL FIGHT REVENGE is EMULATED !!!

Just played it for an hour! One of the best capcom games ever! Love Poison and Edi E.!!!

Vasili: Grumpy surly one or Dolls. It’s a tough choice that no tiamat should have to make!

Edi. E is one of the greatest characters ever and given that Streetwise was made by the same team that made Final Fight Revenge, I really have to wonder why they didn’t bring in Edi. E and Poison who each have 1000 times the characterization that any of the new original FF:SW characters had.

Seriously, the guy has a super move where he HITS YOU WITH HIS CAR. That beats like, everything else in existance.

I just beat SF1! Man, it was hard mastering the three moves, I feel like Justin Wong right now lol! After you beat the game you unlock all of the games music that you can listen to plus 5 kick ass remixes!

Yes, the picture with the arcade is the same as the one on page 12 but it takes up the screen and next to it there’s a yellow box where they show SF1’s intro screen after the guy breaks through the wall.

Majority of images are of existing SF1 art you must of seen before, art of the characters, there’s a page with all of the characters and their bios in Japanese but it’s really hard to read even in Japanese. There’s a page like this in English that you can read which was probably placed on the arcade to teach people how to play the game. In total it’s 12 pieces, can’t say any of them are new entirely, I must of forgot about that picture in AAC on page 12…

I knew Ryu had red hair in this game but I wasn’t aware that he had blue eyes too, you can see them when his portrait is facing someone else’s before a fight. I guess the first Street Fighter Zero Anime was justified giving young white headbanded Ryu blue eyes lol!

… got to be kidding …

Okay, finally got to check my list. Doesn’t seem like there’s a Hanzo, Yamato, Musashi, or Kojiro amongst Guy’s ninjas (that I’ve seen so far) after all. Although there is a Yoshimasa and a Koji, which is probably what I mistook them for. Eh, ah well.

Ok so just to sum things up, what game series are related to SF?
-Final Fight
-Slammasters
-Rival Schools (maybe)
-Cyberbots (maybe)
-Star Gladiator (maybe)
-Captain Commando

Ryu’s photo in Hayato’s ending was officially stated to be a joke on how similar Ryu looks to Hayato. Given that’s the only remotey SF-related thing in the game, that means you can probably scratch Star Gladiator off the list.

What makes Cyberbots possibly related to SF? I don’t know much about that game besides Cyber Akuma, and I find it extremely doubtful that Cyber Akuma is anything more than “for fun”.

So… far as I know, that leaves:

Final Fight
Slammasters
Rival Schools (maybe)
Street Fighter
Captain Commando

I wonder if there’s any other franchise out there that has so many different game series within it (KOF doesn’t really count since KOF is apparently an alternate universe from AoF/FF/etc. Or at least, was. Geese is dead then alive then dead then alive then dead again wha?)
