Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Well, I do have to chime in here that the word “Hot” is likely used in many non-gay connotations in the Rival Schools series. I say likely because I know absolutely nothing about reading and understanding Japanese, but given all that ranting about the burning spirit and the insane levels of ‘passion’ that everyone is in RS and how often the snowflake of RSNetwork talks like that, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Still don’t know what the ‘squeeze’ part is about, though. In general, I’m pretty sure at the very least there’s a gay joke or pun going on there, given that Capcom has shown they enjoy that stuff (re: Eagle), that they’re still going along with it for Gief (re: Dislikes beautiful young women added in) and that although I don’t know much about gay hairy men stereotypes in Japanese culture, experience with video games and anime has taught me that they do at the very least enjoy joking about that sort of thing when it comes to big men in speedos (Re: Muuki in FF7 and how tons of muscular big men in speedos posing muscular poses flash across the screen when the main character of Fushigi Yugi discovers that one of the female characters was actually a guy early on)

Of course, Armstrong is generally NOT gay in Full Metal Alchemist yet also does all the muscular posing, but even then it’s obviously a joke and such at the very least, if not a directly gay one (but perhaps an alternative take on it).

(Taken from Capcom Classics Collection):
“Roxy grew up in the same LA orphanage as Poison.
She always looked up to Poison although she doesn’t dig the cross-dressing thing.

So I guess Roxy isn’t a dude. I’m lookin’ forward to tha FF2 art, btw.

Thanks, vasili10.

Lol i can’t help this, but I gotta say it

Everytime I see Golden Dragon’s name I see that Image of Guan Yu doing his Musou attack…

ROAR BLUE DRAGON!!!

chuckles
feels stupid

 Dynasty Warriors is tha troof.

Thank you Golden Dragon. You and Red Cyclone’s webmaster along with TAS unknowingly gave me a crucial piece to her puzzle. Stay tuned for more.

A quick question for the SF gurus here… I hope you can help out.

I remember an old post on SRK mentioning that Twelve’s design was based on an alien that appeared in an old Japanese TV show. The episode it appeared in was rather infamous for some reason (can’t recall at the moment), and it just so happened that it was the Twelfth episode of said show… hence Twelve’s name.

I don’t think this post still exists on the board (or if it does, I can’t find it). However, when doing a Google image search the other day in hopes of finding Twelve fanart, I came across a Japanese movelist page for Twelve that included this rather interesting image as a header:

http://img286.imageshack.us/img286/8733/superu0mv.jpg

Could this be said alien? It certainly resembles Twelve, and looks like it might be something out of an old cheesy-costumed Japanese TV show.

Does anyone recognize this? What was the name of the show? The page itself doesn’t seem to make any mention of the image’s origin, although the filename was “superu.jpg”, if that’s any help (although I don’t think it would be).

Thanks a lot!

much later…

I think the Japanese thing about musclemen being sort of ambigously gay doesn’t have anything to do with being hairy. I mention this because someone said about the “hairy muscular gay stereotype” or something like that. Pretty sure hairy isn’t part of it (see: Chou aniki. Random note: I have seen the Saturn version of one of these games in action…good GOD.

The Japanese on the truck in Sodom’s background is reversed in the Saturn version of SFA2, also. More randomness.

That would be good, but don’t go to any trouble over me.

Never heard about that one. Sounds interesting though.

TS, it’s no trouble at all. You want them, I’ll do them.

In other news, version 4.2 of the plot guide is up on Gamefaqs. Here’s a path to it:

Sig’d.

Yea, I figured it was about time to release it  Now only 2 more years until the next update!!!1 :stuck_out_tongue:

(note: Probably not. I’ll probably have more motivation to update the guide with new SFA3 Double Upper and Streetwise stuff at least. …don’t have a PSP though so hopefully there’ll be a dialogue FAQ done by someone else or something.)

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!

Is Ryu’s shoryuken truly invincible… ?

My speculation behind Ryu’s shoryuken is that he aligns himself with the aura of a dragon and then performs a rising dragon punch. After all, dragons are known to be invincible creatures. “Dragon” it self is a hidden aura much like how fire and ice are common auras.

When Ryu says Sheng Long I think he means the true mythical dragon of Chinese folklore. Sheng Long is the embodiment of the dragon aura in Chinese mythology and Orochi is the embodiment of ki in Japanese(another dragon, well, serpent).

HnN provides a related question for those who still have the TOC I released back when anybody could post attachments. “Sheng Long” unfortunately is a Capcom USA blunder that led to others. In Ryu’s equivalent Japanese quote he’s always said shoryuken, there’s no way around it.

Perhaps it was purposely done to inspire fans of SF to speculate more into the nature of Ryu’s Shoryuken.

…And here’s my speculation:

…Makes some sense though, does it not?

Of course, and I did read your entire post in case you thought I didn’t. Sheng Long however isn’t the embodiment of the dragon aura in Chinese myth unless you’re referring to the shoryuken only; it’s actually a tribute to the 13th century Chinese painter named Chen Rong (last name first), famous for his characteristic “rising-into-the-sky dragons” with long serpent-like bodies. These are the Asian dragons seen in Chinese art and Dragon Ball for instance. They all credit this artist who imagined the dragon as a personification of running water and of storms.

Now was Capcom USA thinking about all this when they redid the quote, who knows.

IMHO they should have made the ShoRyuKen cancel out fireballs at the first few frames. That’s what it really would be like because it’s invincible, not makesRyuinsubstantial so anything can pass through him. If anything hits him, it would consider as a hit but do no damage.

Anyway, COA directly translated Shoryu from ShoRyuKen -> Sheng Long, so the Sheng Long in that 'mis’translation isn’t Mystical Dragon but Rising Dragon.

Good thinking tho’ Susano-o

I would give them brownie points if they had to decipher from kanji, but SF2WW had none. So I vote for denial or ignorance aka “we’ll just do our own thing so we can be cool and unique.” Been done.

You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance! part 2

You know what… ? Whenever I used to think Sheng Long I used to think the invincible essence of Ryu’s Dragon Punch.

…Anyways, here you go(more speculation):

Ryu - Shoryuken - level 1 - less energy, shortest jump, least power, average recovery, shortest instant hit, shortest guard break, shortest unblockable, shortest invincibility, shortest long range, weakest critical hit, shortest accuracy level 2 - mid energy, mid jump, mid power, low recover, mid instant hit, mid guard break, mid unblockable, mid invincibility, mid long range, mid accuracy, mid critical hit level 3 - high energy, high jump, high power, worst recovery, highest instant hit, high unblockable, high guard break, goes through defense, max long range, max critical hit, max accuracy, max invincible

Psychic DP equals the strategical ability to predict phenomena through the direct observation of an opponents current fight plan. Ryu is better at it than Masters because Masters’ uppercut sometimes leaves his opponent on the ground.

You see, I’ve always speculated the Shoryuken to get a critical hit since childhood. It’s just something I’ve stuck to… …Perhaps it has to do with the slice effect that happened when it cut Sagat in the anime or the huge gash that it left on him afterwards.

…So what do ya think… ? Does SRK get a critical… ?

Now here we go with Masters’. I’d like to say that since Ryu sticks it to Sheng Long(and Ken doesn’t) I’m figuring now(farfetched speculation) that Ken’s Shoryuken(if you can even call it a dragon punch) doesn’t even have invincibility.

gut instincts = the ability to sense phenomena(basically attacks) before attacking
All-American = (difficult to explain in words what this is / basically it is a nameless nack that Masters has)
instincts = another nameless nack(only it is of a different substancebasically explains talent and knacks on post 16 of Fighting Game Storyline Speculation)
**hits ** = a combination of steady hits(combo)
**density ** = self explanatory

Ken - Shoryuken - level 1 - les energy, shortest jump, unbelievable recovery, low arch, late hit, low flames, 1 hit, low flames density, All-American, low gut instinct, low instincts level 2 - mid energy, mid jump, mid power, low recovery, mid arch, late hit, mid flames, 2 hits, average flames density, All-American, mid gut instinct, average instincts level 3 - high energy, high jump, high power, average recovery, furthest arch, late hit, high flames, 3 hits, high flames density, All-American, high gut instinct, max instincts, one touch sometimes leaves opponent of the ground

I’ve already speculated the Hadoken in my Fighting Game Storyline Thread.

Main Entry: invincible
Pronunciation: (")in-'vin(t)-s&-b&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Late Latin invincibilis, from Latin in- + vincere to conquer – more at VICTOR
: incapable of being conquered, overcome, or subdued

So basically Ryu is incable of being conquered, overcome, or subdued in the midst of his Shoryuken and Masters just goes crazy with his talent.

Actually whats even sadder for COA is that they decided to make him say ‘Sheng Long’ in the first place…Wtf it isn’t even in Japanese!!!

I still say that they were trying to get at something…
