In case anyone ever got aronud to making that win quote translation guide…a couple ones from the Genesis (MegaDrive) version of SF2 Dash…I assume the quotes are the same in all versions of the game.
I did add a few quotes from Super SF2, as there seem to be a few new ones there…Last one of Ryu’s, last 2 of Guile’s, and M.Bison (Vega, cape) seems to have all new win quotes. Last 5 of his are all SSF2.
It’s at this point that I’ll mention that if this has already been done/posted somewhere, please don’t tell me. My romanizations are poor and inconsistent, though mostly correct. Don’t mind the “>” symbols, I e-mailed this to myself at one point.
Harsh criticism of my weak translation non-skills is encouraged.
Chun Li:
fuh subete no otokotachi wa watashi no mae ni hiza madzuku no yo!!
- hah, men (in general) are unequal in the first place and fall on their knees in front of me
onna dakara toitte amakumitawa ne! Zannen dakedo watashi wa sekai ichi no kaktou ka na no yo!
- since I’m a woman you didn’t take me seriously, huh!? But unfortunately, I’m the world’s best fighter!
Similar to: “I’m the strongest woman in the world!”
fuh anata wa shosen watashi no teki de wa nai wa!! Denaoshi toi de!!
- in the end, you’re not my enemy. let’s start over (?)
taishita koto no nai otoko da wa! motto tsuyoi aite wa inai no kashira
- An unimpressive man. (I wonder if there) isn’t anyone better…
> -----------------BISON
> fufufu omae na to watashi no ashimoto ni mo oyoba nu!!> hahahahahahaha
> - huh huh huh, you too are at my feet, and no match for me!
> sono tei dono ude de watashi to tatakau to wa
> mikubirareta mono da na.
> - that way, with what abilities, you fighting me is nothing to take seriously. // pitiful
Sounds like: “You can’t compete with my powers.” …sorta.
> watashi no JAMA o suru mono wa shi arunomi da!!
> - for those things which obstruct me, there is only death!
Sounds like: “Anything in my way will be destroyed!”
> mousugu sekai ga watashi no shuchuu ni osamaru… hah> hah hah
> - the new world my (will) rest // be placed into my hands… ha ha ha
> akagono hou ga hagotae aru wa! chikara nakimono wa
> miru no moke ga rawashii!!
> - it’s a baby (chewing), strong corpse is disgusting to look at
(what the fuck?) Second part I get…this thing in front of me (the loser) is detestable to look at. Got it. The first part. It’s baby…? hagotae seems to refer to the texture of food when you chew it…?
> omae mo ORE o taosu koto ga dekinai no ka… ORE
> yori tsuyoi YATSU wa mou inai no ka…
> - you too couldn’t defeat me (could you)… I’m the stronger one, you can’t do it (can you)…
I’m thinking the tone here is sort of taunting, because of the “ka…” rhetorical question on his part.
> jibun no muryokusa o omoi shire! shosen, kakutouka
> nazo mina magai mo yo!
> - your personal weakness (I’ve) discovered. In the end, fighting riddles are all also a sham (?)
(…what?) I guess he’s saying he’s figured out the tricks you were trying to pull…? Or did I get this one wrong somewhere?
> waga buka ni hoshikurai no ude mae da na. daga, sono
> me ga kinikuwan. nido to sugata o miseru na!
> - our/my subordinates(…?) …but, I can’t stand those eyes. Show me that (your) way a second time.
Don’t get the first part. Little help? We want your skills?
> korosare nakatta dake de mo arigataku omoe. kisama to wa BERU sono mono ga chigau no da.
> - I didn’t kill (you), so it seems thanks are due. with you that beru is incorrect
(WTF again, I must have romanized this incorrectly…BERU (in katakana) doesn’t really fit…could he be talking about the bell in his SF2 backgrounds…? Why would he say soeone wasn’t good enough for the bell…? I should also point out that “kisama” is a derrogatory form of the word “you…” (…and the reason why I was inerested in Japanese. Because any language with a derrogatory version of “you” gets the thumb’s up from me. )
> yokuzo koko made watshi o oitsumeta mono yo. shikashi saigo ni wa, yahari aku ga katsu no da!!
> - (your)skill stops by me cornering you(?). Nevertheless, in your final moments, evil conquers as well
> Dou da, shin no kyoufu no aji wa? kono tsugi wa eien
> no akumo o ataeteyarou…!
> - how is it, to truely taste fear? this next step, a perpetual evil will be brought…
> -------------------RYU
> ii shiaitatta-na, mata ore-to tatakattekure!!
> - good match, fight with me again! // have another
> fight with me
> omae no chikara wa sonna mono ka! Kuyashikatta-ra
> kakatte koi!
> - (your) what strength! It was difficult…
Can someone help me with the “kakatte koi?” I’ve heard Ryu say it before, but I’m not sure what it really means.
> otagai chikara o dashikitta n da… dochiraga makete
> mo okashikuwa nakatta.
> - (our) mutual strengths did our best… which loss is also serious
Eh? I guess saying that it was a close match? Clarification?
> Shin no kakutouka e no michiwa mada toi… shugyou
> aru nomi!!
> - the fight’s path still in question… only more
> training (to do)!
> nakanaka yaru na! daga madamada. shugyou ga tarin
> you da na!!
> - quite good!(?) but, still much to go (to improve). (you’ve) more training (to do)!
> yononaka ni wa ORE yori tsuyoi YATSU mo iru. HETA na
> jishin wa suteru koto da na.
> - in the world I’m the stronger guy. Unskilled
> people (bodies) quit(?)
Dunno if he’s saying they lack fortitude, or that they physically aren’t disciplined enough.
> -----------------GUILE
> kuni e kaeru n da na. omae ni mo kazoku ga iru darou…
> - return to your country. You also have a family, I’m guessing…
Corollary- “Go home and be a family man!”
> make wa senu, kono tomo no katami ni kakete.
> - not losing, (wearing) this (friend’s) souvenier.
Refering to Charlie’s dogtags, I’d guess.
> tatakai to wa mujou na mono da. daga ORE wa makeru
> wake ni wa ikanai.
> - battle with me is a harsh // heartless thing. but I can’t lose // me (my) losing won’t do.
> omae no ugoki wa mikitta. ORE ni kanauaite de wa
> nakatta!
> - your movements were seen. I matched you // you were matched // countered!
> heh ORE ni KENKA o uru no wa, hyakunen wa yaize
> - heh, me (learning fom) brawling, 100 years (it would take you)
Came out sounding a little Yoda-like, but he’s talking about his experience. Saying it would take 100 years for the opponent to catch up, I think.
> naze make tano ka, wakaranai no ka? Omae to wa,
> seotte iru mono ga chigau no da.
> - questioning why you lost, don’t you understand? (fighting) with me (you’re) burdened if wrong // can’t afford to make mistakes.
> omae to no tatakai ga, ore no arata naru chikara to
> naru darou.
> - our (my) fighting, (with) my new skills right
This one came out bad too. Basically, if I even got this one right, he’s saying that he used new stuff during the fight, I think. This is an odd comment to come from Guile, of all characters…
