Random background questions:
I was playing SFA2 today, and I happened to notifce that the stuff in Sodom’s background is written backwards…was this done on purpose? It seems more likely that they just flipped the truck with the writing on it, since they decided it looked better the other way, and didn’t bother to re-draw the stage. Anyone know?
Also, anyone have any info on the statues in Akuma’s background? Or the stuff in his A3 background…spells?
Can you be more specific as to where things are written backwards? There’s quite a bit of writing there, and I’m not seeing easily what you mean. Gouki’s backgrounds I’m not totally sure, possibly I’ll know some more after going through his stage info. Working on it.
tAkAyAmA Repro (Fanartbook)
Here are some scans from the artbook. It also has pics of other characters that I don’t know (maybe they’re all Capcom characters) and some good ones of Sakrua but anyway here we go:
This is the cover, if you look at Gouki’s face - that’s what I meant with “chuby look”.

This is the fight intro of Ryu and Ken from SFZ, originallly from the SFIIAM. It’s so good, it could be made by Bengus.

Here you see different versions of Ryu (SFII, SFIII,…)

This is one of the best drawings of Nash I’ve ever seen, I like it more than most of Capcom’s drawings of him.

This is one of the cute Super Deformed images. Very good I think.

Good stuff. Thanks very much aerialgroove!
vasili10: I’m guessing then, that it’s only backwards in some versions of the game, because in the version I was playing (SFA2 as opposed to SFZ2, whatever version is on the Aniversary Edition ultracade), Sodom’s name is clearly written backwards in katakana on his truck, and there are kanji below it which I didn’t recognize, but I’m guessing are also backwards.
Gouki art
You’re welcome, do you know where this one is from?

Ok, I see what you mean now. It’s not written backwards, just vertically. Today you’ll see Japanese written either in rows from left to right, or in columns from up to down and going from right to left. The second way is reserved today for mostly stories and poems, but both styles are used and seen. As for why the writing on Sodom’s truck is vertical instead of horizontal, storyline-wise possibly to reflect his zeal for the Japanese culture, game design wise it stands out better and is more legible with the rest of the art on Sodom’s truck.

Someone from an art site claims that the Gouki art is by an artist named Mogudan, but I’m not sure yet where it’s found, currently checking around.
Quick question and bare with me I’m a vet of this thread ,but I don’t know if this has ever been answered. Did Ryu find aout about his art being a killin art thrpugh training? I know Goekrn probably told Ken and Ryu what the original form of thier art was, but how did he learn it. Like when he hit Sagat did it come out of nowhere or did hr already know thanks. HollA!!!

You go against us and you DIE!!!..Simple as That
Ah, you misunderstand. On the version of the game I was talking about, the katakana are literally reversed, like if you were showing them in a mirror…as in, they were facing the wrong direction. I guess that answers my question…it’s only in certain versions of A2.
Gouken probably told them that their style was originally an ansatsuken, I’m sure they didn’t pick it up through training. Ryu didn’t know what took over him (SnH) that brief moment until Gouki speaks to him.
TS:
Really? Mirror-imaged even? Wow, that must be a graphics mess-up, who knows whether it was intentional or not.

Found it. The Gouki sketch is from a hentai doujinshi by Mogudan Nakayohi called Oekaki 00.
Hentai rules the world I guess. It’s a good drawing though. Thanks!
I’ll upload the FF1 and 2 bios tomorrow or on Tuesday.
It wasn’t in a SF doujin, so I ran across it by accident.
Sure thing, cool. Did you say Sakura from the artbook was nice as well?
That’s an awesome pic!
Yes, Sakura was very good, too. Shall I scan them? Do you know where I can find colored drawings of the FF1 bosses?
Sure, whatever you like is cool with me. And any miscellaneous SF universe characters are always welcome if they’re found of course.
Colored drawings of FF1 bosses…if there aren’t any in the books you already have, your best bet might be a FF1 game manual, which the Red Cyclone webmaster used to picture all the Andore family members if you recall.
CFJ Demitri quotes are ready, Guile’s account is almost finished, should be posted in the next day or so. sano, anything coming up from your end anytime soon?
I just tried to send you the latest Gamest look ups twice, 14 images and it didn’t go through. Perhaps you might have to clear out your inbox?
Hmm, I’m currently at 30% of max. capacity so I don’t think it’s a space issue. Looking at some older emails you’ve sent me, the biggest so far have been 10M and with the most 12 attached images per email. Try sending two with 7 attachments apiece.
BTW, nice package, domo arigatou gozaimasu!
Okay. I’ll send 7 at a time.
EDIT: Images sent.
Vasili10 - Jed-Chriz got back to me about the books, he has most of the All About Books we all have, but he says there are no official books on SF EX3 so his information on that comes from other sources, net, contacting Capcom, etc.
