Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

No, they were to lazy to remove Ken’s headband. They did give the Zero/Alpha Ryu sprite a red one in the MVC games but they didn’t change Ken. And removing Ken’s headband is a work that any average sprite rip fan on the internet can do with all Ken sprites on one day. THAT’s lazy.

Ryu had the red headband in MVC1 but Ken wasn’t in it. Ken showed up to cheer Ryu in his intro with Sean and again in Ryu’s ending, but he had no headband, and short SF3 hair, he wasn’t a selectable character in MVC1. In MVC2 where they were both selectable Ryu had the white headband, Ken had the red one.

Anyway, I think this is more of a universal joke that no one will ever get the headband thing right.

SF2 Animated Movie - He should be wearing a white headband when he fights Sagat.

Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 Manga - See above.

Studio Udon’s
SF comic - See above.

SFZ3, MVC2 - He should have the red headband.

Hong Kong SVC Chaos comic - Why does young Ryu have a red headband when he meets Ken? Lord…

New SF Zero Anime - Um, how come in some scenes his headband was red and in some it was white? I wonder if this is something they later edited to be white all of the time, hella strange.

Fist SFZ Anime - They got it right only because they didn’t involve headband switching so only by a technicality.

And the biggest shock of all, even the great Masahiko Nakahira got the headband thing wrong of all people! In the SF Zero Manga Ryu took the red headband from Ken during a match where they tied each other. Later on he lost his white headband which Sakura took. At the end of the manga he had a rematch with Sagat wearing his red headband.

Skip ahead to Masahiko Nakahira’s Sakura Ganbaru! Manga which is a continuation of this. She is still wearing the white headband she got from Ryu. When she runs into Ken, he is wearing the same red headband as a ponytail. When she runs into Ryu, he is wearing a white headband!

Hell except for the two game instances, none of these other things have anything to do with sprites. So take note. As I said before, if someone gets the headband thing right the world will come to an end!

Do you (plural; to everyone) think Ken should’ve had short hair in SFZ3 since he gave Ryu the red headband in SFZ2? Under what circumstances and when do you think Ken lost his ponytail?

I think without the ponytail to hang it he wouldn’t let it grow as long, so about SF2 length or so.

The Udon comic did do a backstory showing Ryu losing his white headband and Ken losing his long hair whilst sparring at Gouken’s dojo so I spose that’s supposed to predate the events of the Udon comic, including Ryu’s first fight with Sagat.

Oh for the comic it’s right, for the game it’s wrong. But it looks like Studio Udon had a very different take on what happened during SF1. Geki wasn’t in it because he was dead long before(killed by Gen when Chun-Li was young) and Ryu and Adon didn’t meet during SF1, but met in the comic later. At this point I think Udon’s take on SF1 was Ryu vs. Sagat in a different location and that’s it. Oh yeah, Studio Udon said Capcom gave them the green light to change the area where the fight took place, because they wanted more people to witness it, including Vega(Cape).

Yes that’s what I’m saying.

He cut it off after he gave Ryu his red headband, otherwise he couldn’t have fought well. Maybe the next day? I forgot, what does his Zero 2 ending look like when he trains after meeting Ryu? Does he have short hair?

That’s why I brought up the question. His SFZ2 ending makes it difficult to see if he still has the ponytail.

Yeah, I make that same mistake all the time. You add something as simple as a prequel to the chronology, and my whole brains shuts down.

Im not sure I understand why. We’re given to see how Ryu gets his famous red headband later in the film, and while it differs from how it happens in the Alpha series, we all know the film came first (and even influenced Alpha’s creation), so any post-film changes to the story only serve to show that the film isnt canon. It doesnt make it a goof in the context of the film.

Again like the comic instance, it’s not wrong in the movie itself but it is wrong as to what happens in the SF1 game. In the movie Ryu had NO headband prior to Ken giving him the red one when he was supposed to have a white one. And don’t get me started on what happened to Ryu’s red slippers.

I really disliked Udon’s take on these two things. By far the worst things they’ve done in the comic.
Ryu CUTTING Ken’s hair with his Tatsumaki?!? Oh man that was lame!
And the Ryu/Sagat battle didn’t feel as epic, I understand they wanted to make it more Tounament like, but the Australian outback was MUCH better.

Australian outback didn’t happened, in SF1 anyway. Even in the SF2 Animated Movie according to one of the SF2 Animated Movie guide books the fight took place in Thailand and not Australia in the movie. The Animated Movie did get the right country at least. I wonder why the game moved the background to Australia.

I’m pretty sure it was set in the Northern Territory of Australia, because it is one of the lightning captitals of the world.

I guess. And maybe they just didn’t want another Thailand stage.

Something I noticed after buying KOF Maximum Impact for Xbox on Sunday. The KOF Maximum Intro and Guile’s song on the SF vs. SF Musician album have some of the same rap lyrics apparently sung by the same artist! Check Shadowhaxor’s post on the this page to hear both.

Shoryuken.com is in fact reporting that SF4 is coming on Atomiswave and Guile is in it in case you missed out.

SF33S: Fight for the Future

SF4: Battle for the Past

Interesting.

Yeah, I see what you’re saying. I personally don’t really mind some deviation from canon when it’s so required. There are aspects of the official storyline I simply hate, and as far as I’m concerned I’d much prefer to have a cogent plot that a wholly accurate one.

As for those less famous red slippers, I think it’d be a bloody good idea if we let Capcom clean forget about those. And his red hair. And Birdie’s skin condition.

I think his hair just “naturally” turned from red (SFI) to brown-red (SFZ) to darker brown (SFII)to black or nearly black (SFIII). And probably very black in SFIV.
Battle For The Past, wtf?
I hope there are not as many freaks as in SFIII.
