Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Thanks for the explanation, vasili10!

You know, some whole new scenario for the Zangief question just came to my mind: What if Zangief is not meant to be actually gay but more like gayish. Like Prince, just in the Japanese version.

Other thing:
Is Venom’s Japanese MVC1 ending as nuts as the US one? Do you think Capcom had a story for the two Shadow characters in MVC1? In Shadow Lady’s ending they resurrect Jin with “cybernation” so maybe Chun-Li and Nash had died too (nothing unusual for Nash).

You know this picture?

Dou itashimashite.

I’ll check the MvC1 endings, I’m guessing for now that they’re about as goofy in Japanese as in English. About Zangief, possibly. Some scattered evidence shows he doesn’t have an expert’s grasp on Japanese, so he can tend to say things he may not mean because he doesn’t know how to express himself any better.

Hmm… if Zangief doesn’t know how to express himself better in Japanese, maybe the whole ‘gay’ thing is a joke in how he seems gay but really isn’t.

But… don’t they already have the whole “Doesn’t know how to express himself in Japanese” joke for Sodom, already? Oi…

re: Juni

Ugh. Another big clusterfuck. Well, as it is, I say we leave in Saiki’s note about what the original plan for Noembelu was supposed to be, but state that currently, the official word is that Juni is German (or possibly ???) who is also a part of T.Hawk’s tribe. Maybe she was adopted by the tribe when she was found in some cactus bush as a baby or something. There have been a number of instances of a character being born somewhere but growing up somewhere else (e.g. Guy), so it’s not too implausible.

re: Zangief

Eh. I’m not sure at this point myself. Frankly, I was always suspicious of the supposed “evidence”. But anyway, in favour of the “percevied gayness”, don’t forget Zangief’s questionable acting in “Lilligan’s” (Morrigan in Lilith’s body) ending in Marvel vs. Capcom.

That was an accident, he just wanted to join the head butt training.

It’s difficult to find story for me since I can’t read it. Most of the 1991 book is groups of characters that have something in common for example all Ninjas of various games. The SFZ2 guide has colored drawings of each fighter’s stage. The Takayama Repro book is very good but also has some drawings where the characters look very unusual and kind of chubby. I can scan some of it, it’s really weird, but other art is just as good as the official capcom drawings, very talented artists. For the ads, I’ll scan them soon, they show some posters and old art that I didn’t know yet, it’s printed very small though. The Game gag is kind of like the 4 Koma’s and has all sorts of characters even Carlos of FF2. Nothing awesome but nice. I’ll try to find some more story info from the books. You need any of scans of the SFZ1/2/3/2Alpha “All About” books?
Do you know where the picture of Blanka with his mom in the Mystery of the Hadoken book is from? Is it from that comic the other pics are from? Do you know where I could get that comic or what the cover looks like?
Thanks.

Yes I know it can be difficult, hence I said suspect. Just do your best and let me know if perhaps a big block of text just seems to jump out at you, sometimes around a certain character, what I’ve told sano when looking through his collection.

For All Capcom, since it’s a Gamest issue I have access to the TOC for it so I’ll possibly ask you about certain pages. For the SFZ2 guide, colored drawings of the stages are also in AASFZ2, so those are probably the same. I don’t need anything more from the All About books since I already have those relevant, thanks for offering. For the pictures in HnN, the only one I can confirm through Red Cyclone’s webmaster came from a manga first is Guile & Nash, a manga inside an issue of an old magazine called Marukatsu Super Famicom. That’s all I’ve been told through the webmaster and Golden Dragon. The others, young Chun Li, Blanka & mom, Ken & Eliza married, I have no idea and have never seen them anywhere else before getting HnN.

From the artbook, scan whatever you deem worthy. For me if you could scan the artbook’s cover so I can see what it looks like, and the SFZ2 guide’s cover to see if it’s one of the books Dash no Chris has informed me about or a different one that’d be nice. More on these later. Thank you sir.

Does anyone know if there was a complete translation of all of the Japanese SF3 win quotes? (Since I heard that all of the quotes were not translated for the english version) I thought that it might help give some extra info on the characters?

BTW Remys insignia on his Jacket is ‘Omega’ the last letter in the Greek alphabet, which can signify the ending or finish.

Vasili10, the Sega Saturn guide has no info besides gameplay tips for each character. It starts with Ryu on the first page after the index. The Gamest Issue 193 has a page for each character. Only at the beginning there is some text that could contain a little story line info, I doubt it though. Anyway here is the page, I wonder what the Muscle Bomber pic and the one with the ape and the sumo is about.

Oh I forgot to scan the SS guide. I’ll give you a description, the cover is the SFZ2 picture with the heads of Ryu and Sakura and with a red angry Gouki (full body, frontal) in the middle, blue background.

Wow. That’s amazing.

The games translated all of them, New Generation and Second Impact, but as vasili10 just pointed out not all of them were 100% accurate. You can find all of the SF3 quotes translated in the games up over at Gamefaqs.

Just in case you haven’t seen it, you can check here to see a movie of SFZ3 Double Upper for the PSP along with a bunch of other Capcom games at the Tokyo Game Show. Ingrid’s other drawings look a bit better to me.

Haven’t played the scanning game in a while here so it’s time to keep up.

Looks like Sammy vs. Capcom has been canned for real now just in case there was any doubt since all Sammy let out before was saying that “A crossover project has been cancelled.” Scroll down to Sammy vs. Capcom here -

To sort of honor of the dead game, here’s a Sammy vs. Capcom fan art drawing that’s been making circles around the net.

Here’s three other fan art pieces from the pages of Arcadia Magazine. I-No vs. Tabasa/Tessa, I-No vs. Midnight Blissed Zabel/Raptor, and Ryu vs. Sol Bad Guy.

This drawing appeared in Arcadia’s February 2004 issue. Every year Capcom sends Arcadia a drawing for the New Year as do most of the Arcade companies. That year it was a drawing of Ryu by Shinkiro.

Since this came up in another thread, here’s Ryu vs. Gouki in Masahiko Nakahira’s Ryu Final Manga. This is right after he was struck with a Shun Goku Satsu and how he is shown having survived it later on.

Cool, thanks very much for those. That guide’s one that Dash no Chris has, and he’s told me what it’s got. It should have story info, but nothing more than what AASFZ2 would have for instance, and those are already on my list of things to do. Gamest 193 also has some Ryu and Alex stuff repeated in places like the AASF3 Fighting Bible. The monkey and the sumo are zoomed in shots of Ryu’s 2I stage background, which was also Ken’s for NG. Muscle Bomber is shown because the Gamest editors are seeing how much Alex resembles Alexey Zalazoff/Biff Slamkovich from that series.

Looking forward to that artbook.

…Christ, that comic looks epic.

EDIT : Is there a translation for it? I can’t stop looking at it.

So there is no special info about the sumo or the ape I suppose. I’ll scan the artbook soon. Thanks.

Nope, just two entities stereotypically known to enjoy a hot springs environment. Awesome, thank you!

Goutetsu:

No known translation yet for Ryu Final.

There’s something that’s just occured to me recently, dunno if anyone’s ever touched upon it before…

But anyway, in Alpha 2, we see Ken give Ryu his red headband so as to show how he got it. HOWEVER, Ryu still wears a white one once the first tournament kicks off. I spose it’s mostly just a goof by Capcom but I was wondering if they had an explanation (storywise) as to why Ryu chooses not to wear the band until the 2nd tournament when he’s obviously been carrying it around for like 3 or 4 years.

vasili: Just my luck. Why don’t I have any Japanese friends?

Spydaman: I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “the first tournament”. The widely accepted opinion held is that the Alpha series takes place after the first Street Fighter tournament (Sagat’s scarred chest is testimony to this fact), not before. I suppose the real question (and forgive me if this is what you meant) is why Ryu continues to wear his white headband in SFA3.

Sorry sir, we all were excited when we learned that a group called Mangaqwest took the torch and began scanlating Ryu Final, but it seems they’ve been MIA lately, sano probably knows the latest details with them if you’re interested.

The current word about Ryu’s white headband in SFZ3 is Capcom was too lazy to change its color to red.

Alls I know is that Mangaqwest tried to come back again, and then shut down again so who knows what’s up with them.

y’know, I don’t know why but I got the chronology totally backwards for some reason O.O lol yeah you’re absolutely right. Yeah, it’s really more why he kept the white band after Alpha 2. The obvious reason is Capcom were too lazy to make the band red (Which is pretty damn unbelievably fuckin lazy if u ask me) But I wonder if there’s a reason storywise
