A little quickie: Guy going missing is also Maki’s storyline when you play as her in Street Fighter Alpha 3 Advance for the GBA (and I think her win quote to Cody is demanding to know where Guy is, while her win quote to Guy is her not believing he’s the real Guy because he let her win). Granted, I don’t know if Crawfish made that up or if Capcom did. And of course, nothing actually HAPPENS in the game cause they had to cut all the endings and midboss dialogues out due to space reasons, alas
Query: I thought originally we had FF1 and SF1 taking place at roughly the same time because Guy was supposed to have participated in SF1, but couldn’t due to the events of FF1? How do we reconcile this apparent 2 year discrepency? That’s the only remaining hitch I see in the timeline.
First chapter of Namco x Capcom translated! I prolly stop yapping about it now since the translations are coming. Except for the last 3 remaining seiyuus.

And in case you don’t know, looks like Mangaqwest, the site that was translating Ryu Final expired. Darn it, if only they did more of it… Hopefully they’ll be back some how.
Is that stuff about Guy planning to participate in SF1 even official? Either way, there’s no need to reconcile the discrepency. I mean, this is exactly what I’m talking about. If Capcom hasn’t explained/made sense out of it, then it isn’t up us to do it for them. 'Cuz then, we’d be making shit up and that isn’t official.
I didn’t know about that before; I thought the reason for putting FF1 & SF1 together was because SFZ2 and FF2 were together also.
A little slice of history trivia: Sakura’s birthday is March 15, 197X, and she’s 15 in SFZ2. With our current understanding, she was born around the same time that Goutetsu died.
Sakura is reincarnated Goutetsu, that’s where she gets the natural talent.
I don’t recall Guy supposing to be in SF1. Closest thing to that is how Ken didn’t participate in the tournament because he was at the US Martial Arts tournament.
Isn’t Sakura 14 during SFZ2? I heard that mentioned in EGM once and was under the impression that she was so she could be a Freshman by the time Rival Schools happened where it obviously took place after SFZ2. Not that RS is necessarily canon to the SF world, but I imagine her age wouldn’t be fudged there when they had her in the game initially. …not that I know how much 1 year would make a difference in this case either, really.
What about the arcade version of upper? Does Maki have an ending?
Understood, but that doesn’t mean Guy is currently missing. Plus, I think that maybe he was missing only according to Maki’s understanding. I mean he IS a playable character in SFA3, after all. He was probably spotted by many other characters throughout the game. I dunno. That’s just my interpretation. Btw, notice that CvS2 mentions that Genryusai has died while SFA3 Upper doesn’t even mention him.
In the arcade version of Upper, neither Maki nor Yun or Eagle appear, so for them no endings. They’re only in Crawfish’s GBA port of the game.
Should’ve noted this above, Tiamat, but Sakura’s info above is from the Gamest mook Gal’s Island #4 Sweet Memory. It gives her birthday which is reprinted in AAC but without the year 197X for some reason. (AAC is ok with ??? but doesn’t like X’s ) The mook also gives her age as 15 and that she’s a high school freshman during SFZ2, at an unspecified metropolitan co-ed high school in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. For her RS info in AAC it says she’s a high school student at Tamagawa Minami High, no year specified. I guess if RS is canon she could still be a late freshman or early sophomore at that point.
For her winning SFA3 quote about “rival schools,” it’s definitely not in Zero 3 just as the plot guide says, being that the series’ original name is Private Justice Academy.
Also, Sakura’s blood type is A during SFZ2, and O for RS.
Didn’t know that. I’ll start scanning the Muscle Bomber bios today or tomorrow and upload em so you can translate them whenever you want to. Anyone ever played this Capcom game?

If you’ve played “Bionic Commando” for the NES, then you’ve played this game. The original Famicom title for the game was “Hitler no Fukkatsu ~TOP SECRET~” (“Hitler no fukkatsu” = “Hitler’s resurrection”). Lord knows we’ve gotta keep the U.S. versions of the games as inoffensive and squeaky clean as possible (“Get the Hitler reference outta there!” “But, the point of the game is to kick his ass…” “Doesn’t matter – it might possibly be misconstrued as glorifying the Nazis.”).

So, since Ryu is older than Sakura, Goutetsu died after Gouken adapted baby Ryu? For some reason, I always though Gouken adapting Ryu took place before Goutetsu’s murder. Mostly 'cuz in theory, Gouken would of inherited the dojo from Goutetsu, he would be considered a ‘master’ now that Goutetsu was dead which is why if someone left Ryu for Gouken to take care of and he just didn’t find the baby by 100% accident, he would be ‘THE MASTER’ to leave the baby with, but that’s how it worked out in my mind anyway. I guess in reality he was a Master anyway while Goutetsu was alive, he either got his own dojo or Goutetsu long abandoned it to travel the world or whatever, because if Goutetsu was still there and he was the rightfull owner/master of the dojo, Ryu would of been left to him and not Gouken. Thoughts? Kind of difficult for me to explain, I hope this made sense…
Regarding blood types - I’ve been meaning to make a post about SF blood types for a long time, but I’ve been waiting for a slow period or something. In case you didn’t know, in Japanese Manga/Anime/Games/Fiction/etc. they don’t just give random characters any old blood types. They believe that the blood type you have indicates something about your character, kind of like how when we create characters we think about the birth of the characters and their horoscope signs to determine their personality, sometimes. Anyway, blood type O is usually given to strong leader types. So perhaps in Rival Schools they wanted to show Sakura being a lot stronger. Oh yeah, I’m type O Negative myself. And you know what that means… it means they call my house five times a day asking me to donate blood since I’m a universal doner, I can give blood to anyone but can only take O Negative blood, LOL!
Let me see if I can post something about SF blood types soon.
This is more correct; more bits and pieces to be revealed once I get to the SFZ accounts. Hopefully we’ll learn a little more about young Ryu also in the upcoming Dash account.
Huh. The Guy wanting to be in SF1 thing is another thing I’ve read LOOOOOOOOOONG ago and just took for granted by now. I mean, what other connection would SF1 and FF1 have? And I couda sworn we had discussed this in the earlier version of this thread and this was the whole reason why everyone went “WTF? Final Fight ONE takes place in 1989 and not in 1987?”. >:|
re: RS & SF
I think Capcom would like to keep the association, but disregard Sakura’s appearance. Or maybe that’s just me.
That’s probably why I didn’t know; I never got to see the old thread, which was long before I learned about SRK.
I participated in the original thread. I remember hearing that, but I remember it being someone’s personal opinion or theory. I don’t remember anyone saying it was official. I doubt it was stated in an official source, since Final Fight is stated to have taken place in 1989. I’ve never seen it written in any official source that Final Fight takes place in '87. I could be wrong.
Random polling stuff - In IGN’s new poll Battle of the Bad Asses, Ryu beat out Heihachi, YES! But now he’s up against… GOKU! OH THE HUMANITY OH NOOOS… Anyway, if you have an IGN account or wish to sign up for free, please hook my man Ryu up, vote for him instead of… the guy he’s a lot like…
Heh, heh, with Noritaka Funamizu making the new DBZ game, he can’t loose on this one.
I love them both, but video games are Ryu’s original turf, so my vote goes to Ryu. If it was an anime or manga showdown, the pleasure would be all Son Goku’s.
Man, fuck Funamizu. You’d think since this is his first solo project he’d come up with something impressive and original, but instead he pulls some tired-ass shit and makes a DBZ-based fighting game, as if there aren’t enough. Fuckin’ coward. The game will almost certainly do well, based on the name alone. Way to take the easy way out. Plus, the shit looks EXACTLY like Budokai. Could someone tell me why this isn’t illegal?
