Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Poster Image20 of Gamefaqs said that Ishiwatari announced Sammy vs. Capcom at E3 and said it was under production. We are waiting for him to provide a link to back this up. It’s Gamefaqs so… take it with a grain of salt for now…

Speaking of Gamefaqs, Chun-Li kicked everyone’s Ass in the poll, “YA TA! GAMEFAQS SAYS I AM THE STRONGEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD!” Final results -

Chun-Li (Street Fighter) 43.84% 22300 votes

Kasumi (Dead or Alive) 16.12% 8199 votes

Ivy (Soul Calibur) 21.44% 10906 votes

Sonya (Mortal Kombat) 6858 votes

Xiaoyu (Tekken) 5.13% 2608

TOTAL VOTES - 50871

That poll is more notable for who is in it and who isn’t then who actually won.

Oh yeah! Some help on some of the rare Namco characters of NXC no one knows who the heck they are -

http://www.classicgaming.com/reviews/namcoxcapcom/namcoxcapcom2.htm

EDIT: NXC Spoiler - The next stage I played nothing major. Lucifer appeared and Jin saw his father as Devil Kazuya. After you get Devil Kazuya down about 3,000 points he bounces.

In the original Japanese arcade edition of Final Fight, the opening animation sequence indicates that the story takes place in the year 1989. In the rather poorly “translated” English-language version of the opening (found in the U.S. and World versions of the game), this was changed to “sometime in the 1990s.” Final Fight was released to Japanese game centers in November, 1989. I presume that the U.S. and World openings were changed to read “sometime in the 1990s” since most countries outside Japan probably didn’t see the game hit their arcades until very early 1990. During the game’s attract mode, a profile for each of the main characters is displayed. In the Japanese edition, these profiles included both ages and dates of birth. While the English-language versions include the dates of birth, the characters’ ages have been omitted (probably to keep the time setting of the story vague).

1989 is maintained even in Final Fight ONE (GBA), corroborated by CAPCOM’s official guidebook for FF ONE and in the opening of the Japanese edition of the game.

I’ve cobbled together (from games, game manuals, guidebooks, and magazines – all Japanese, natch) some basic bits of profile data for the main FF series character that have gone on to appear in other games:

Mike Haggar
Height: 202cm (Final Fight series & Muscle Bomber series)
Weight: 140kg (MB series); 121 kg (FF series)
Birthdate: 09/03/1943
40 years old in Muscle Bomber
41 y.o. in Super Muscle Bomber
46 y.o. in FF
50 y.o. in FF2
No age listed for FFTough

Cody
Height: 182cm (FF); 185cm (SFZ3)
Weight: 85kg (FF); 80kg (SFZ3)
Birthdate: 04/18/1967
22 y.o. in FF
No age listed for SFZ3

Guy
Height: 179cm (FF series & SFZ series)
Weight: 72kg (FF series & SFZ series)
Birthdate: 08/12/1965
24 y.o. in FF
No age listed for FFTough
No age listed for SFZ series

Maki
Height: 169cm (FF2 & CVS2)
Weight: 52kg (FF2 & CVS2)
Birthdate: 08/28 (from CVS2)
20 y.o. in FF2
No age listed for CVS2

Jessica
Height: 165cm (MB)
Weight: 50kg (MB)
18 y.o. in MB
(I have no FF profile data for Jessica, and her MB profile doesn’t give a birthdate)

Knowing that Final Fight is set in 1989, and looking at the ages and birthdates of the 3 main characters, we can see that FF’s story occurs between 09/03/1989 and 12/31/1989 (since it is during the last 3 months of 1989 that Haggar, Cody, and Guy will be 46, 22, and 24 years old, respectively).

Knowing that Haggar is 50 years old during Final Fight 2, we can conclude that FF2 takes place some time after 09/03/1993 but before 09/03/1994. However, given the fact that FF2 was released in Japan in Spring of '93, I’m inclined to suspect that CAPCOM envisioned the story taking place in that same year (rather than in 1994). If we assume that FF2 is set during the last 3 months of 1993, we can surmise that 20-year-old Maki (born on 08/28) would have been in 1973.

Unfortunately, I’ve yet to see profile data that includes ages for the characters in FFTough. Both the Japanese instruction manual and guidebook describe the game’s events as taking place “in Metro City, several years after the destruction of Mad Gear.” With Mad Gear’s destruction in occurring in 1989, and the previous installments apparently taking place during the years in which they were released, I’m comfortable guessing that FFTough takes place in 1995 (meaning Haggar is probably 51 or 52 years old during FFTough, and Guy is probably 29 or 30 years old).

Haggar is 40 in Muscle Bomber, and 41 in Super Muscle Bomber. This means that MB takes place some time after 09/03/1983 but before 09/03/1984, with SMB occurring some time after 09/03/1984 but before 09/03/1985. Jessica is 18 years old in MB – based on the above estimation, she would be roughly 6 years older by the time the events of FF occur (which would mean that Jessica is older than Cody – born in 1967, Cody is most likely only 16 or 17 years old during MB).

I noticed something else I noticed while comparing the opening sequences of the Japanese- and English-language editions of Final Fight. Twice, in the English opening, Mike Haggar is referred to as the “newly-elected mayor of Metro City.” In the Japanese version, he is simply “the mayor of Metro City” (there is no mention of how recently he was elected). According to his Muscle Bomber profile, Haggar is the mayor of Metro City during MB (and that his career as a street fighter occurred before MB). This would mean that Haggar was the mayor of Metro City at least as far back as 1983~84.

–Chris

Hey Dash no Chris, don’t worry. It’s obvious that Maximoff Demitri’s seiyuu is Nobuyuki Hiyama. My friend Sano sadly got a little too excited(anyone can),especially cause he just talked about the seiyuu for his best character ever.BTW,who doesn’t get excited about one favorite seiyuu and one favorite character?

From what I read he only played him in Vampire Savior, not the rest of the series. Sites have misleading info sometimes though. Yuji Ueda’s name is in Vampire Savior’s credits, comes up first if memory serves which usually means he played one of the main characters. I’ve actually been trying to figure out who he voiced in that game for a long time so if you know who pass the info along. Thanks.

And LOL, I don’t get excited and toss out random names…

Sorry about that Sano.I see you got that info from Anime News Network, and so I don’t blame you;after all, they’re definitely not perfect when it comes to seiyuu names. In fact, this kind of thing has its’ very own forum thread, and they have done lots of corrections and they surely have lots and lots more to do.I apologize for the misunderstanding compadre.Catch you later.
EDIT:Hey Dash no Chris,do you have any idea when your site,Dash Taisen,is coming back?Is there any chance your one-of-a-kind site will return?

I’m pretty sure he played him throughout the series (I’m very sure he at least played him in both Vampire Hunter and Vampire Savior) – I’ll have to double-check.

Did a little digging – Ueda Yuuji played Aulbath, Zabel, and Gallon (aka Rikuo, Lord Raptor, and Jon Talbain) in both Vampire Hunter and Vampire Savior (I’ll have to check on Vampire later).

I’m REALLY hoping to bring it back up this year (ideally, before Evo2K5), but things are really up in the air at my end.

–Chris

Dash - Okay I’ve been wondering about that for a while now. Thanks!

Shingo - No apologies needed. I found your response earlier funny if anything. “OH MY TEH GOD YUJI UEDA RUUUULEZ HE TEH SEIYOO TEH ERVYONE FRUM RYU TO CHUN-LI TO JEEZUS KRISS!”

EDIT: Hey Shingo, now we could settle any beef with Sagara Sanosuke vs. Naruro in Jump Super Stars on the DS! Check screens 2 and 8, MWAHAHAHAHAHA!

EDIT 2: NXC Spoilers - Got to the part where Chun-Li meets Morrigan in Demitri’s castle. I guess that’s where their comedic dialog mentioned earlier takes place. Later I got up to the part where Ryu and Ken fight Gouki, had to take him down with a Multiple Assault, a double Shoryuken! You don’t actually defeat him, he has 7,000 life points, more than any character I have encountered in the game! After you knock him down about 3,000, he leaves after a while. So, the Ryu/Ken/Gouki beef doesn’t end in this game but at least they did a little bit better than Ryu and Ken in Udon’s comic book where Ryu only got of one attack, his Super Hurricane Kick for just one hit and that’s it. Good stuff!

Finally ready, first up, directing your attention to Bison’s old pic shown in Eternal p.112-113 (114-115 in English). The pic captions given in older sources:

And Vega’s account from Champion Edition:

Vega from Gamest SF2D

Under Fate’s Star…

That man also, long ago genuinely aimed to continue the pursuit of knowledge of a fighting stylist as a young man. Abiding by the master’s fixed words, encouraged together with comrades, personally well trained, it is said if it could be seen where the removal of the young warrior became past. But that man was lucky to be born under fate’s star. Feared by all people, he’s the pursuer of ruin from the star of the devil. And so assuming if he oh combined with that fate, in conclusion contrary to what can be will not be mistaken. Why then, altogether not consider before his demonic fist the rest of the scattered numerous people’s deaths meaningless, human beings called exceedingly cursed perishables, yet a disgraceful existence having risen from the ranks.

That young man…Vega himself oppressing with heaven’s aimed strength. in any case to argue with matters beginning, it would be what kind of devised means to surely be risen at the top of the world lest he not be satisfied. Recently with his especially dangerous personality able to grasp the extent of furiosity, and so becoming due to serious control being the case, he himself would take up control in spite of inevitable death.
This oppression turned into completely beyond strange. Seemingly Vega felt an irritated mood able to radiate that demanded pleasure. And so that man’s eye remained there, now studying in that which was his dojo.
Doubtless that what’s first is pleasure. However along with time, for him looking again at fighting techniques was what it was becoming. Perhaps for his nature’s straight line personality, this time was likely an agreeable etiquette existent. He being a pupil above all of conspicuous force, gradually that standing out became as the manifestation. But he it seems for human beings carries heart away, this is obvious.

Emperor of Darkness Born

As for power as a fighting stylist, although already completely exceeding the old farewell master, always will he treat himself as inferior with the master. For Vega, against the master it is obvious that there was harboring of murderous intent. However, with him pressured by that belief of inevitable death, the master wanted to work for the devotion.
For some reason…there’s a master of this sole terrestrial psycho power that was in order to freely manipulate human beings. The past, in which disciples being 2 people to skip over the perception of techniques as psycho power’s bundle becoming deceivingly independent, is not for certain.
For him, the master’s slightest efforts continued to burn in his revealing eyes. And so finally because of this psycho power’s mastery was finished.
The next day, as for his steps, with festering cruelty and even jealousy from psycho power for the master, the bug’s breath was laid to rest.
"Now no other will make use of him but, thanks to his kicking the trap he does not live up to his league…"
And so the master’s final clincher pierced in an instant, particularly his note of self control completely collapsed.

With power taken into his hand henceforth, having felt interference, he wanted to crush all obstacles underfoot. Even if encountering women and children, his hatred loaded in his fist, rains of cries for sympathetic forgiveness, afterwards bodies melted as people are left behind. Naturally during going into a rage he remembers the struggles of the challenged persons. But, for him to take it, at the extent of time losing in an instant the good feeling of killing would-be avengers as opposing persons, the fist and the whole state, the brazen defiant one swelled up with abhoring dark psycho power.
Eventually that dark power synchronized from his own mental condition, moreover he realized that the might comes forth from hatred. Hatred being his true power it’s his principal drawn out feeling. With him manipulating it at will, it increasingly repeated his belief of matters on brutal killings. But, it turned this time, his cruelty went to authorities becoming widely known, in whole countries his net of siege began to spread. However, his bad luck came to an end. Between neighboring countries war broke out, in that place there would not be a cut in between.

After that his circumstances are unknown. But unbelievably he easily didn’t to say die and such. Surely even today he continues having fun with the dark power, inverting the defiant ones awaiting without a doubt.
The strongest fighting emperor, Vega. Right now really where is he likely to be?

Whew, next time Ryu. Thanks as always for reading minna-san.

Hey i know this has not been talked recently, but i have a question. What do you guys think were the tiers in the first SF tournament. All opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Official Member of Team Death

Go against us and you DIE!!!..Simple as that.

I’m sold. I guess Final Fight really is set in the year 1989. I mean, there’s no getting around it. That would support the fact that SFA3 is set in the year 1990, 'cuz Guy’s SFA3 account(according to AASFZ3)mentions that Metro City became peaceful one year prior(referring to the events of FF1). It’s hinted that SFA3 takes place a year after SF1, ‘cuz Sagat’s SFA3 accounts(according to AASFZ3)mention that he dissappeared one year ago, referring to the events of SF1. SFA1/SFA2 is stated to have taken places ‘several months’ after SF1, according to AAC. Like vasili10 said, SF1 wasn’t officially stated to take place in 1987. All we know for certain is that it took place roughly around the same time as Final Fight 1, several months before SFA1/SFA2, and a year before SFA3. Like I previously said, FF2 and FF3/FFT weren’t officially stated to have taken place in 1988 and ‘91. Those were only guesses by Saiki. Personally, I believe it’s more likely that they’re set in the years that they were released, considering their ages. I mean, let’s be honest. What opposes this idea other than our personal opinions of the length and nature of Guy’s dissappearance after/during SFA3??? Perhaps, we are just makin’ his so-called ‘dissappearance’ out to be more significant than it really is? Even Final Fight 3 mentions that Guy has returned to Metro City after SEVERAL YEARS OF TRAINING. So according to Saiki, Guy dissappeared and Maki is currently looking for him. He hasn’t told us where he read/heard this. The only source I know of that states this is CVS2, which ISN’T canon. HOWEVER, if what Saiki says is true and Guy has/did in fact dissappear, then that doesn’t automatically mean that it’s in reference to the events of SFA3. Perhaps his dissappearance occured long after SFA3 and Final Fight 3/Tough. After all, CVS2 is set in the year 2001. This is just my opinion, but I believe that the chronology/timeline is in need of some serious revisin’ in the next Plot Guide update.
IMHO, the chronology should look something like this:

1983: Muscle Bomber/Saturday Night Slam Masters
Muscle Bomber Duo - Ultimate Team Battle
1984: Super Muscle Bomber - The International Blowout
1989: Street Fighter/Final Fight(ONE)
Street Fighter Alpha 1&2
1990: Street Fighter Alpha 3
1991: Street Fighter 2
1993: Final Fight 2
1995: Final Fight 3/Final Fight Tough
1997: Street Fighter 3 World Impact
1998: Street Fighter III - 3rd Strike

Just my speculation

Tier 1 - Sagat, (Gen if fully healthy)
Tier 2 - Ryu (Retsu)
Tier 3 - Adon
Tier 4 - Birdie, Eagle, Lee, Geki
Tier 5 - Mike, Joe

Vasili10 - Great stuff! I still have more quote requests over at Gamefaqs from Travencal and MvComedy but I’ll be updating the CFE quote Faq soon with what we have so far for now. Man, Vega sounds a bit overboard on the evil meter there, but I guess that’s normal.

No matter which year SF1 is set to occur, SF2 has to happen 6 years later, with SFZ3 in between them. Before the Zero series, Zero 2 to be more precise, SF2 was 4 years after SF1, now it’s 6 as stated in AAC. And SF3 is 3-4 years after SF2, from AASFZ3. If SF1 occured in the second half of any year, as currently held, several months later can be the following year. Since Street Fighter holds seniority over Final Fight, I would say give SF1 the date as its release in 08-1987 and adjust the FF and MB series accordingly. After all, Capcom itself has cared more for SF through the years than FF.

Thanks sano. That’s why Vega and not Gouki is seen as the villain in the SF universe. He’s that bad, he’s that evil.

Man, they actually state the amount of years that passed in between some of the games, storyline-wise? I can’t really argue with that. I always assumed SF2 was set some time in 1991-1993(basically the early '90s). The only matter is that it wouldn’t make any sense if it took place beyond '91, since Zangief’s stage is referred to as the USSR. Is his stage still named USSR in the later games(ie Super, Super Turbo)? MB can’t take place in the late 70’s 'cuz it’s been officially stated to take place in the 1980’s. I still stand by my statement that if SFZ1&2 did in fact take place a year after SF1, then they would’ve said that and not ‘several months’ after SF1. If there’s anything that doesn’t fit into the timeline/chronology properly, explain why it doesn’t fit properly, present the facts(official statements, clues that may hint at when the particular game took place but don’t add up), label the year setting as ‘unknown’ or ? and then include when u THINK it took place. I just think that we shouldn’t attempt to explain shit that Capcom didn’t bother too, 'cuz then you’d be presenting your opinion as fact. At some point, u just gotta say Capcom didn’t explain this, so I dunno.

Zangief’s SF2 stage has always been USSR. The Soviet Union falls sometime between SF2 and SF3, hinted in Necro’s info. I had said that several months after Sagat’s defeat in SF1, Ryu took up his travels again, AAC’s SFZ story. If SF1 took place late in the year, which it does according to its release date, several months after can still become the following year.

Another way to look at times in the universe is that tournament games are bound to happen within short time frames, say within a month, while games of people going around fulfilling personal agendas may not necessarily be under the same constraints. In this way, the events of SFZ2 could span from 1988 to 1989 for example, and those of SFZ3 can have the earliest occur late 1989 and the latest toward the midpoint to second half of 1990, and similar scenarios with 3S.

AASFZ3 says for Sagat’s section that it’s been 1 year since news spread in Thailand of Sagat’s disappearance. Before this news spread, several things happened: Sagat loses to Ryu, Sagat fights and loses to Adon, and maybe also Sagat lets Dan win. Most of these have to happen before Thailand loses Sagat’s whereabouts. By SFZ3 it’s been a year since Sagat secluded himself, not a year since he was defeated in SF1.
