Wouldn’t be surprised if when the sequel hits we get at least half of these guys as playable characters.
Don’t forget Q, he’s in the New York Stage standing on a building, really small.
Aulbath/Rikuo is that big fish/whale thingy that keeps jumping up and down in the Jungle Stage.
Yeah, Nash is in the New York Stage.
Lord Raptor/Zabel and Bulletta/B.B. Hood in Monster World.
Whole lot of females in Felicia’s ending. Yellow Beast of Battle Circuit and a bunch of girls from Rival Schools, DS, SF, Star Gladiator, Ton Pooh of Strider and Power Stone characters.
The Xbox version says the game will have online Downloadable Content and you can download new characters and stages, some are calling it BS P.R., sometimes games say they’ll have this option and it doesn’t happen. Some argue Xbox has done this the past with other games. We’ll have to wait and see I suppose. If they some how manage to pull off downloading more SF2, SF3, SFZ, Warzard and DS characters for online play, it wouldn’t need a sequel to me. Not holding my breath though.
Exactly. I mean, EVERY Japanese SF fansite I’ve been to mentions that Poison’s a man. I haven’t heard about Zangief’s gayness from anyone but Saiki. Not even Japanese fans support this claim. I’m not saying he made it up just for fun, but it’s hard to take it seriously when he never provided a source for this information. One win quote from SFZ3 isn’t enough evidence.
I’m very interested! I’m interested in anything Final Fight and/or (especially)Muscle Bomber-related. Go nuts. Thanks.
I know what you mean; I can’t help but feel shaky when I go from oooold official sources, to insider info, to actually have both sketches, to thinks Capcom friend said that, to older finding of actually have one sketch and the other’s only from the book we’ve both had all this time. It’s too many transitions for an event dealing with a forgotten character, yet still quite central to the story as held in the plot guide. It’s ridiculous.
Oh I so wish, but the answer’s most likely no; to make Eternal they went to their older published books. I remember seeing them in a picture go through this one old SF2T guide when fixing the character relations charts, so that book’s been on my maybe list for info. What would be the best for us is if Capcom ever planned for another book like HnN, but covering the Zero series, the SF3 series, and Revival as well as SF2. And of course a nice supplement would be a rejected characters collection. :bgrin:
In other news, SF3 books are on the way, and I just got the premier issue of Club Capcom and the Gamest mook Gals Island Sweet Memory. I’ll post the SF universe highlights summary of each a little later, hoping to hear back from Dash no Chris on some other books if he has them, and also my agent if I may have indeed already secured this old SFZ rough sketches pamphlet that may have among other gems the scowling Dan sketch found on the Italian site The First Place.
And adding to that, the theme Black Power was originally for the battle Vega v. CPU Ryu, while the theme Groan was originally for the battle Gen vs. CPU Gouki.
Premier issue of Club Capcom has minimal useful SF story info, however it does have FF2 bios, could be worthwhile since the plot guide so far has used US sources for that game, I’ll add these to my to-do-list to get them posted sometime. Sweet Memory has six pages for Sakura and four for Chun Li, might be some new stuff to check out later.
It looks like there are two Ibukis in the background of one stage, one where she’s in her ninja uniform and there’s another character that looks like her with a similar hairstyle off on the other side of the background. But the BG’s are kinda washed out so it’s hard to see…
Sakura is seen beating up Dan in hers.
Alex vs. Haggar with Patrica, Tom and Jessica looking on.
Ryu vs. J. Galleon
Shin Akuma blows up a meteor with some new ki attack but the kanji are different.
Ingrid has some connection to Pyron because her symbol sort of overlays his body on the ground.
Pyron kills off everyone in the game and creates five clones to deal with the others.
Guile gets a medal.
Chunli’s kids beat up a theif.
Guy mediates in front of a stature
Zangief fantasies about being in the tropics complete with bikini babes.
Yun gets roped into delievering an order by Yang and the sisters (Gen or a lookalike is also in his ending).
Vega battles Gill and seemingly kills him with Sagat, Balrog and Bison looking on, Gill revives himself after the battle is over.
Karin dines in seclusion on the moon.
Urien commands an army of twelves to imitate him.
Demitri and Morrigan ‘renew’ their ‘relationship’ so to speak.
Jedah gloats over his victory but up next is…
Regarding Balrog (boxer): In the All About SF Zero 3 book, in Balrog’s section it mentions bourbon (also, women) in his “likes” part of the character profile. It also mentions gambling, and I remember someone posting that after he stopped fighting, that’s where all his money went. I’m sure this isn’t new, but just in case. Also, in the little artwork section there’s a pic of him passed out on the ground with a bottle in his hand… Actually, it’s in his glove, because he’s still in his fighting outfit. I don’t have a scanner around, but it’s on page 384 if anyone else has the book. Drawn in a disturbingly cute fashion…
Are we talking about an English-language win-quote from the American game (if so, what’s the quote – I stick to the Japanese versions of the games, so I’m not terribly familiar with the English-language versions of win-quotes)? Or are we talking about Zangief’s Japanese win-quote when he defeats Ryu?
???
Hadouken wa nigate da ga, omae wa suki da! Uwa-ha-ha-ha!!
Your Hadouken is one ugly customer, but I like you! Uwa-ha-ha-ha!!
“nigate” = weak point; ugly customer
In other words, Ryu’s Hadouken makes him a difficult opponent for Zangief – projectiles such as the Hadouken have been something of a weak point (or, at least, a challenge) for Zangief since SFII. This win-quote harkens back to Zangief’s SFII series profile data, in which his listed dislike was projectile attacks (like Hadouken, Sonic Boom, Tiger Shot, and Yoga Fire). In this win-quote, Zangief is saying that Ryu’s Hadouken made the fight difficult for the big Russian, but that he doesn’t hold that against Ryu. I see nothing in this quote to indicate that Zangief has any sort of sexual leanings toward Ryu (or any other man, for that matter) – the intention seems to be much more along the lines of “Damn, you really gave me a run for my money just then! You’re quite a fighter – lemme buy you a beer, man.”
Which Fanbook are we talking about here? and, are you saying that Saiki told you he’d found evidence to support his “Zangief is gay” theory, and that the evidence was in the Fanbook, but not specifically what the evidence was or where in the Fanbook it appeared?
Going back to the AAZ3 book, in Zangief’s profile for the dislikes, it mentions something about women’s beauty, but I can’t really read the expression. I don’t think it’s as simple as saying he doesn’t like beautiful women, since I think that would be shorter. Also mentions the projectile thing, of course.
For his win quote (why I didn’t look this up sooner, I don’t know), I get the same thing as Dash no Chris. Some statement about the hadouken, and then the “but (using ‘ga’ to contrast the previous statement) I like you.” There’s nothing overtly gay about it, but I see how it could be taken that way. Would there be anything else to back up the gay-'Gief theory, because, assuming I’m right about the disliking beauty thing, I wouldn’t call this conclusive evidence at all. Surely, if it’s, correct there was some mention of it in other games…? I don’t know if the Japanese version of SFA2 (Z2/Z2A) had character-specific win quotes like the SF3 games, CFJ etc, but I’d think there’d be something there, if not going all the way back to SF2 character info on Zangief.
edit: while going through the SF2 intros to see if Zangiefs said the same thing as in the Z3 book (the 2 likes- wrestling and the cossak dance are the same, dislikes only list projectile attacks), it seems according to his old SF2 info, he turned 50 on June 1st…the randomest of info…Is also slightly bigger in Z3.
Dash no Chris: FYI, in every game except for SF3: 2nd Impact, the character-specifc win quotes are cut out of the English version of the game.
Unless otherwise stated, I always stick to the Japanese versions of the games also. The quote is from Z3 as opposed to A3, and I followed Saiki’s reasoning and conclusion because he said “…but I like you personally.” “Omae wa suki da!” can be a phrase for someone confessing feelings for someone else, and that’s what Saiki took it as, I’m sure. The confusion lies in the choice of words and their interpretations.
The Fanbook is the Eiga Street Fighter II Memorial Koushiki Fanbook from Shogakukan back in 1994, shown here: http://bookweb.kinokuniya.co.jp/guest/cgi-bin/wshoseaohb.cgi?W-NIPS=9940543700&AREA=05.
Both Tiamat in the plot guide and Saiki have said that Zangief’s been officially gay since that publication, but I haven’t been able to find anything from the book to support the claims.
I say it in the plot guide because that’s what Saiki told me, really. So not much to go by there on my end.
I forget, was there a listing of CvS2 win quotes from the Japanese version? Maybe some more hints could be found there (what with Zangief’s special intro with Eagle being a possible one, etc).
EDIT: I have all of the character to character CVS2 quotes in Japanese in a strategy guide. Maybe I can send Zangief’s CVS2 quotes over to vasili10 for translating if that’s cool?
