Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Dunno how it matters, but if it helps, I believe that the airplane was from Rival Schools Evolution, which took place before SFA3. Course, that would mean that Karin was quite chummy with Sakura even before SFA3 (but after SFA2), but I suppose Karin was never really portrayed as BITTER towards Sakura in any way.

I dunno whether Rose/Cammy (if there was a fight) fought all twelve Dolls at once or whether the fight with J&J could just be seen as representing a fight with any Doll/set of Dolls, although all twelve fighting Vega/Bison is pretty much a sure thing.

Since we’re a bit starved for content, I’d thought post some stuff from various old gaming mags I have lying around. I doubt very seriously if they’ll have anything new but they may give us some insight into the thinking process and storyline that was still evolving at the time.

First up are the bios for SF3 from ‘The Ultimate guide to Fighting Games - 1997 edition’. Bear in mind these apply STRICTLY to New Generation and were most likely overriden by Second Impact.

Ryu - Wanderer
The wandering warrior is still on a quest for true strength. Ryu is honorable and always cares about his opponents well being but he never holds back in battle. Ryu’s karate style is solid and intense, unlike his friend and rival Ken’s style which is flashy.

Ken - Ryu’s rival
Ken is both Ryu’s friend and rival. They trained under the same master. Now tied down to domestic life, Ken has agreed to honor his wife Eliza’s request not to enter a martial arts tournament unless Ryu also participates. Ken’s style is seemingly reckless but never to be underestimated.

Ibuki - Ninja
She’s a Japanese high school student from a small village who has studied the arts of ninja all her life. She is easy-going but very determined. She combines her ninja style with ancient Japanese martial arts. She is adept at finding her opponents weak point. This makes her one of the most dangerous opponents you will face.

Alex - Grappler
He’s a tough guy from Manhatten. Alex left home at a young age to train with Tom, a retired U.S. soldier and friend of the family. Alex now fights to avenge Tom’s defeat at the hands of a mysterious man. Alex is big, buff and nimble but deep down he’s a nice guy.

Sean - Ken’s student.
He was born and raised in Brazil. He is a great athlete and comes from an ordinary Brazilian family. Sean has always been impressed with Ken’s fighting style and wishes to study under Ken. Sean hates to lose, is very aggressive and has the ability to surprise opponents with a fatal blow.

Dudley - Boxer.
He’s a heavyweight boxer from Britain. His father was a successful athlete and a businessman, so Dudley grew up in an affluent family. He became a boxer in college but is small for a heavyweight. He compensates by being fast and very skilled.

Yun/Yang - Kung Fu Masters.
They are twin kung fu masters from Hong Kong. They were raised by their grandfather who taught them martial arts at a young age. Yun is the more responsible of the two; a born leader. He can be very impulsive though. Yang is calmer and looks at things more subjectively instead of rushing in.

Oro - Mystical Creature.
Oro is a 140 year old mystical creature who lives in a cave in the Amazon Rain forest (or what is left of it). His only companions are wild animals. He is more god-like than human and his powers are unrivaled. His style is artistic and fast, and he often looks like he is dancing. He has only one arm to fight with.

Necro - Freak
He was born in Russia in a small village by a lake. After the collaspe of the Soviet regime, Necro wandered toward Moscow where he was abducted, and strange experiments were conducted on his body. Necro now has super flexibility in his limbs but his greatest desire is freedom from his captors.

Elena - African Princess
Elena is the daughter of a great African tribal leader. She is dearly loved by her father as she is an only daughter. She fights using the Capoera style, which places special emphasis on the use of the legs. Elena has very powerful legs, which make up for a lack of upper body strength.

Yeah, but there’s nothing else that would hint about Cammy becoming self-aware. Vega was looking for her only after that was found out. His dialogue points that he wasn’t the one spying on her.

Well, it just needs to be somewhere after Cammy awakens and Ryu & Co. beats him off. The battles don’t have to happens right after the other in the same day. Who knows, it might have taken days for Rose to track down Bison, for Cammy to get back, Vega to find her, etc. It’s not likely that Cammy would be back when the Rose vs. Bison takes place because the Dolls wouldn’t have been in any condition to be sent after her.

It’s not likely he’ll try to fight Rose then because that’s when he takes over (merges with) her. It would have to be after Ryu breaks free, when Bison runs out of host bodies. It doesn’t seem like he wanted her, so it would have to be a last resort thing.

From what I gather from Juli’s dialogue (Juni’s doesn’t say much), the reason he told them to self-destruct is because their lifespan was shortened by their enhanced metabolism and they’re going to die anyway. That would be why it seems he just told them to die for the heck of it. This could happen at anytime, but most likely after Cammy get back. That would explain how she manages to have convinced them to turn on Bison, when they registered his order as a threat.

I never heard about Karin lending Sakura an airplane. Sakura’s dialogue when she fight with Karin shows that she was surprised to see Karin there. That doesn’t sound like Karin had anything to do with Sakura getting to Thailand. That would likely mean that Sakura was with Dan because she would have had no other way to get there being a teenage schoolgirl and all. I’m inclined to believe that Tiamat’s right about it coming from the Evolution disc.

Sakura also needed some time to find Ryu, since E.Honda said that Ryu mentioned many places he’ll be going. The Sakura vs. Karin fight could have taken place while she was still looking for Ryu just as well as after.

Dan and Blanka could have met up more than once. Blanka had Dan as a mid-boss, then again in his ending. That could mean they met up before and after the Bison fight. Maybe when Karin discovered Blanka, Dan and Sakura finds them together.

Not likely. At least for Japanese material, unless I find any new 2I info in the SF3 Fanbook coming together with the SF3 mook hopefully soon, NG info would be all we have prior to 3S, especially for everyone except Gouki, Hugo and Urien, and I still can’t find diddly on them either.

Sure thing sano. Thought those were cryptic? I thought they were clearer than Rose’s, but anyway. Here’s my take on them:

Jedah to Ingrid:

“Ah here’s where everything’s messed up, and (sarcastically) you’re here because you have to be right?”

Ingrid to Jedah:

“You (egotistically more like Yooou) have sophisticated ways of controlling space, but you’re annoying to the max.”

(I would, as always, submit that Bison never takes over Rose’s body, and her SFA3 ending is just a more confusing version of her SFA1 ending.)

This I agree with. Maybe it’s because I’m not knowledgeable about Japanese science fiction, but Dragon Ball (Z) is the only source I know of in which fighters see the power output of other fighters, specifically by number. The others are themes which are more general, or are sort of suspect, IMO.

Capcom didn’t, so I don’t see how you could really get them to fit in a genuine way.

Good luck.

True but I think we’re going off the American dialouge at this point. I don’t remember if the Japanese version says exactly the same thing.

Actually I’m leaning towards the battles happening within the span of one day or so. At the time of Zero 3, Vega is supposedly on the same level as Gouki, Gill and the others. Hence he can take on loads of fairly powerful fighters by himself although he is eventually worn down by those fights.

Juni, I believe is the only one of the Dolls specifically stated to have a shortened lifespan because of the enhancements made to her body though.

So far we have:

-Cammy becoming self-aware following her battle with Dhalism (incidentally this explains why Dhalism is invited to the second tournament, Vega blames him for Cammy becoming useless to him).
-Rose investigating the disappearance of all these young women arriving in Thailand. I suspect, just going by in-game appearances and offical arts, that she’s following Ryu discreetly and THAT’s how she finds Vega.
-Vega dispatches Balrog to kill Cammy.
-Rose confronts Vega after he takes out Ryu and he sics the Dolls on her.
-The second part of Ryu’s story occurs, Vega forced to retreat.
-Rose confronts him again following the battle and he KO’s her.
-Cammy arrives to confront Vega and the Doll revolt occurs.

Somewhere earlier in the thread, it’s mentioned about Karin lent Sakura her airplane, I don’t remember if that was an official statement or not.

Putting aside the thrilling Dan/Blanka story for a moment…

Karin’s intro in Zero 3 states that she’s been searching for Sakura for awhile because Sakura beat her. And Ryu had to meet Honda before anything else happens as well.

So…
Karin begins her search for Sakura.
Ryu meets E.Honda.
Sakura meets Dan, Karin meets Ken(conjecture off in game dialouge).
Sakura, Dan and Ken travel to Thailand as a group. Karin travels seperately.
Second part of Ryu’s story occurs.
Karin challenges Sakura and beats her but than admits Sakura is still the better fighter.

On a side note, EGM2 had a brief blurb on Alpha2 where they called Sakura ‘Sokaku’ in a few places. Just wanted to throw that out there.

okay rereading the old Alpha2 guide from Versus books, I’m sure everyone here either has a copy, has access to a copy or knows what I’m talking about it. Anyways looking for things we may have missed earlier…

-page 22, there is a very rough sketch of Rose, Chunli and Charlie together looking down at something. Chunli’s slightly behind the other and bent over.

-page 23, cartoonish drawing of Ryu, Gouki and Sagat standing on one leg, looking perturbed. ‘Woosh’ is also written in the pic, don’t know what that means…

-page 40 has a cartoon figure that’s supposed to be Eliza(I guess) jumping saying “Ken” with a big heart next to his name.

-page 41 has another cartoonish drawing of Ken but behind him to his right in the background is this little monster looking thing with the word balloon “SF II Mole”.

-page 53 has the official art of Eliza tying that ribbon on his
hair.

-page 57 has an official art of Chunli saying something and some kanji there, has that been translated yet?

-page 62 has the infamous little parody sketch of Chunli getting handed ‘bloomers’ to wear in SFA3.

-page 65 has a rough sketch of Sagat standing over a fallen Muay Thai fighter. His right eye is bleeding and blood is dripping onto his chest so I’m assuming this is supposed to be immediately after the Go Hibiki fight.

-page 67, the little cartoon drawing of Sagat as a robot.

-page 68, official art of Sagat, Balrog and M.Bison (Japanese names). Sagat’s in front, scowling it looks like.

-page 82, official art of Adon with a man with blonde hair and dressed in a blue shirt. The blonde man has a large scar on the left side of his face that runs near the hairline past his jawline. Might this be Eagle before his redsign in CvS2? The two are supposed to know each other after all.

pages 97-98, it appears that a lot of these cartoonish looking drawings come for a series called ‘cut in 3 seconds’, on page 87 had Guy hitting Cody with a backhand with the caption ‘Win Pose’ - Guy beats Cody down and exits with a back jump. The 98 page has the caption ‘TimeOver loss’ and features Andore holding Guy by the neck with the additional captions “Andore grabs Guy” and at the bottom “Stomp, Stomp”. I’m guessing these were scrapped ideas from the game creation.

-page 106, official art, Sodom and Poison, with the latter apparently surprised at Sodom’s choice of outfits.

-page 130, official art of Rose in a dress holding some cards with a card stuck in her cleavage. I don’t know what that’s supposed to represent…

-Page 131, another cartoon drawing, with one Rose standing to the left labeled ‘Real’, to the right, 3 Roses (Each individually labeled as “Illusion”) are putting the beatdown on Ryu apparently. One is shocking/stomping him (top) with the words “BEAT” and “KICK” to the left and right of her respectively, one is stomping on him with high heels (bottom left), the third is holding something in her left hand with the caption ‘Thump, thump’(bottom right). Ken is also seen sneaking with a SPIKED baseball bat. The title of the drawing is “NEW Super Combo” and then in parethesis (HugeLie). The whole thing looks like Felicia’s ‘Please Help Me’ Super from VS where she calls for help and a trio of Catgirls come out and beat the opponent down.

page 172, very anime-looking art, of Dhalism and his wife looking like keychains.

page 174, three 'toon drawings of Zangief. The first is titled “Production on Alpha 2 begins” and features Gief about to begin his spinning clothesline. The second is labeled “about 3 months into Alpha 2 production” and features Zangief recoiling like he’s been hit with the caption “Gahaa?” on it. The third drawing is “Alpha 2 complete” and has Gief laying on his back on the floor with 'Z’s coming out.

-page 203, funny pic of the women in Rolento’s background going “Ooh lala” while a Jet flies overhead.

The art of Alpha section has a lot of good drawings in it, especially knowing what we do now about everything. Ones that might of interest:

Ryu, Ken, and Sakura superimposed on Gouki’s back (no symbol visible).

Rose and Chunli back to back on what appears to be a moonlit night.

Ryu and Rose back to back though Rose is looking back over her left shoulder. Ryu seems surprised and distressed over something. Drawings of Chunli yelling and Sagat with an evil looking grin on his face are over both of them.

Adon, Sagat (with the character from his intro in Zero3) standing apart while Gouki stands behind them with his back turned.

Real quick on Alpha 2’s endings… Looking at the “Russian President” in Zangief’s ending, that’s Gorby. Capcom of Japan may not want to admit and or Capcom USA may have botched the translation but that’s him, no doubt about it.

Also Gen’s ending has him bleeding from the mouth, a sign that his fight against Gouki as harder than we thought or that perhaps his illness is starting to have an effect on him?

There’s a two more really rough sketches of Goutetsu and Gouken in the book (one of each). Gouken looks pretty similar to how he turned out complete with beads. Goutetsu has a full beard though and is dressed in robes.

Far as I recall, Sakura isn’t officially stated to have lent Karin her airplane so much as actually DOES it during the Rival Schools Evolution story disk (the ones where you build up and customize your own student. Japan only). Granted, the canonity of those things is quite questionable for a wide variety of reasons.

p.57: That’s just her taunt speech: “Gomen ne!” Literally means “Sorry ok?”

p.65: This is why I thought if the pic of young Sagat (hair & vacant eye) was ever retconned for meaning he would’ve been holding Nuah Khan there and this pic would be Gou Hibiki lying at his feet.

p.82: yes that’s Eagle.

For Zangief’s endings, it doesn’t matter how much resemblence they have. The character from Zero 2 “Great man” who later is the “President” in SF2 is not Gorbachev.

For Gen’s ending sketch, it’s his illness flaring up. Not to say that the battle with Gouki wasn’t tough either, but you don’t see Gen with blood until the last frame of animation, which is what the sketch was a predecessor of.

For the Goutetsu and Gouken sketches, these were the original rough sketch plans for Gouki’s ending in SFZ1; notice Vega’s in the corner also, just like in the game if you focus closely enough towards the right of the screen before the scrolling scene fades out.

Also the SFA2 Sakura comment in EGM2 before I forget, “sokaku” in Japanese means “separated” or “alienated,” so no idea what’s with that.

Since the topic is the US guides, for those who have the SFA2 guide and the SFA guide, pretty much all art from from the SFA guide can be found in the SFA2 guide, with the exception of a few. I know two off the top of my head, a pic of Nash and one of Rose. Anyone know more? My rambling for the day. :xeye:

The young pic of course seems more to establish that he had two eyes early in his career.

Prior to his remake as Freddie Mecury. I wonder if Eagle was supposed to be in Zero 3.

Officially no it’s not Gorbachev. Unofficially yes it is. One pic with a character that looks like him and has a birthmark is a coincidence, two pics (or endings in this case) however is not. That’s Gorby CoJ should just ahead and admit it.

Yes I noticed the sketch of him there as well, didn’t think it would be adding. Can we infer that perhaps at one point, Capcom believed Gouki and Vega had met or crossed paths and simply dropped the idea?

There is a SNK character named Sokaku so perhaps the makers of the guide got fed bad info. Or maybe she was initially named Sokaku and had a name change. More likely the typo demon got involved.

I think there’s a pic of either Guy or Ken missing too. I can’t remember which.

-page 22, there is a very rough sketch of Rose, Chunli and Charlie together looking down at something. Chunli’s slightly behind the other and bent over.

I think they’re just standing there, not looking at anything. Chun-Li does her usual “peace” pose to the viewer.

-page 23, cartoonish drawing of Ryu, Gouki and Sagat standing on one leg, looking perturbed. ‘Woosh’ is also written in the pic, don’t know what that means…

Woosh is the sound of the wind, in Ryu’s SFZ2 stage there’s wind and a leave that is also on the pic is flying from right to left.
This is nothing important or anything but I just thought maybe they’re hinting to the new morphing move or what it’s called (shoryuken with 3x Punch) where Gouki and “Evil” Ryu stand on one leg.

-page 40 has a cartoon figure that’s supposed to be Eliza(I guess) jumping saying “Ken” with a big heart next to his name.

Yes, you guessed right it even says Eliza next to the pic, she then Shoryuken’s him for no particular reason.

-page 67, the little cartoon drawing of Sagat as a robot.

Because he now has glowing abilities.

-page 82, official art of Adon with a man with blonde hair and dressed in a blue shirt. The blonde man has a large scar on the left side of his face that runs near the hairline past his jawline. Might this be Eagle before his redsign in CvS2? The two are supposed to know each other after all.

Defenitely Eagle.

pages 97-98, it appears that a lot of these cartoonish looking drawings come for a series called ‘cut in 3 seconds’,

Cool, what do you know about that “cut in 3 seconds” series?

-page 106, official art, Sodom and Poison, with the latter apparently surprised at Sodom’s choice of outfits.

And you can see more of his face than on any other Sodom art. No mustard by the way, that was just a joke.

-page 130, official art of Rose in a dress holding some cards with a card stuck in her cleavage. I don’t know what that’s supposed to represent…

Maybe her past life or just her working outfit (tarot cards).

-Page 131,…the third is holding something in her left hand with the caption ‘Thump, thump’(bottom right).

That’s a typical manga POS on a stick, often used in Dr. Slump.

page 174, three 'toon drawings of Zangief.

Is it a joke on the time it took to finish Z2? Otherwise I don’t get it.

Adon, Sagat (with the character from his intro in Zero3) standing apart while Gouki stands behind them with his back turned.

That character is the original Dan from the old SFII drawing, a nameless SNK parody.

Well, someone would have to translate that part.

Juli, you mean. Juni was the more slavishly loyal who got stronger from Akuma’s data. Considering that all the Dolls were more or less enhanced when you look at their high BP/SP ratings, I think we can assume that they all get shortened lifespan. They were born ordinary girls (as far as we can tell) after all. Cammy would be the exception since she was created to be strong out of the test tube.

Thought it was only Aprile? That makes sense though.

How’d you get Ken there? I know that he and Sakura met up before they find Ryu, but I don’t think they travelled to Thailand together. It’s more likely he went there alone (slight possibility with Karin) and found Sakura there. I still think that Karin vs. Sakura happened before Ryu’s second story part though.

Oh the Rose stuff was more cryptic but these were pretty strange too. Thanks again! As you know I’m compiling all of this info for a CFE Gamefaqs faq, I’ll E-Mail a copy of what I got so far when I get a free minute for your approval.

Hopefully I should get some more Namco x Capcom seiyuus in by tommorow.

Maybe, I’m not sure.

Officially is what I meant of course, and that’s what should matter here and for the plot guide.

Possibly, there are quite a few inferences thought for the Zero series that didn’t surface, it’s the messiest of the three major SF chapters. But today Vega appears there because he’s Gouki’s last fight in SFZ1. (big time rewrite for that ending when the game was brought to the US) But Vega also appears in Gouki’s SFZ2 ending, so does the reminiscing part happen or not? If Gouki first meets Vega in SF2 to kill him, then I guess not. hmmmmm…

Interesting, I didn’t realize it was a whole other character. Thanks for that info Hcparker.

There’s a lot of official and semi-official art floating around showing the two of them. And she directly addresses his problem re: ‘the dark hadou’ when she encounters him.

Additionally if Rose is as strong as we believe her to be, she should be able to detect Ryu’s ki fairly easily.

Based on Karin’s in game dialouge with Ken, they know each other which we all agree with.

However…

…Just as with Zangief’s presence in Zero 2, there’s usually a reason for this particular matchup to occur IN game. In the former, I think Gief actually DID meet Ken though they probably didn’t fight.

In this case, I’m leaning towards Ken and Karin meeting because it doesn’t directly contradict anything and it can also tell us A)How Ken found Ryu in Thailand B)more about his relationship with Sakura which is murky at present. We know he teams up with her against Vega but not much more.

The reason I’m placing Sakura vs. Karin AFTER the Vega battle is Karin’s statement after the match that although she wins, she still says Sakura is the better fighter. It’s somewhat remensicent of Ken’s dialouge with Ryu after their battle in Zero 2. Ryu at that point is unfocused by Gouki’s words regarding the SnH and loses his focus. Sakura, likewise has just seen her idol at his second lowest moment (the lowest being the FIRST time SnH manifested in Ryu and he scarred Sagat) and she’s fought in her first REAL fight with someone she is close friends with against a fighter who’s the definition of evil and who just swats her aside like a fly.

Every other character that appears in an art like that(Cody, Guile, Balrog, M.Bison) ends up appearing in the Zero series. So I’m going to say that he was intended to appear but something happened and he got swapped out. Maybe for R.Mika?

Didn’t Saiki at one point say that the reason Gouki offs him in the first place was because he was interfering with Ryu’s training?

Secondly IF Vega is as powerful as we believe him to be in the plot guide, it’s quite logical to assume that just like with Oro, Gouki and he are able to sense one another from a distance.

I’m going to disagree with the plot guide and say that Vega and Gouki became aware of each other at some point during the Zero series and that’s where there the mutual loathing began.

I believe that Sokaku is a MotW character, I THINK.

I have a question for you since you can read Japanese. Ryu prefaces two of his supers with ‘Shinkuu’ which has been translated to ‘vacuum’ as in ‘Shinkuu Hadoken’ or ‘Vacuum Wave- Motion Fist’.

Sakura also refers to her super fireball as the ‘Shinkuu Hadoken’. Obviously her move has very different properties from his.

Is there another way of interperting or reading the kanji that makes their moves or for those of other characters ?

Upon closer examination…

All three are standing puddles, I think. They look very cross and upset.

Maybe it’s simple toliet humor.

I don’t remember finding that anywhere. Was it in this thread or the old one or elsewhere? Interesting.

He’s definitely a character in the Fatal Fury series.

Shinkuu amazingly has only one definition in my dictionaries: “vacuum.” Both Sakura’s and Ryu’s supers have the exact same kanji combo for “shinkuu.” Any other moves/characters you’d like me to check let me know.

Also, general Bison note, Capcom became brave enough to call him Mike Bison by the time SFZ3 came out; The SFZ3 Gamest mook and AASFZ3 both spell out “Mike Bison” in kana headings.

It may have just been speculation but I think it was on the original thread. Was there ever an official reason given why Gouki offed Vega?

Sakura’s Midare Zakura which is translated to Confusing Cherry for some reason and her Haru Ichiban which becomes 1st Wind of Spring.

Gouki’s too would be good as all of his moves are translated to have grander names than the other charactes ie Murderous Magnificent Wave Motion destruction/Rising Dragon Destruction.

Oddly enough in the Zero and Vs. series his air fireball super is named Tenma Gozankuu but in 3rd strike that too becomes Messatsu…
