Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

Found my old Post! I believe now that Shoei and Harumaru are indeed the same exact person by the way, since Capcom Early Days only credits Shoei.

It’s the same animation that’s on the DVD that comes with the manga mentioned above. It’s mentioned in Capcom Illustrations because it was released on VHS in Japan nine years ago.

Really? Thanks! I suppose it’s a regional DVD so I won’t bother ordering it.:frowning:

re: Jpn MvC2 beta.

Well, that’s not much to judge on, since none of the Vs. games have ever been popular in Japan. In fact, I don’t even remember there being a Jpn. beta for that game. Its results certainly wasn’t reported to us US folks (I did a quite search on google groups, and the only Mvc2 beta reports are from the US ones), so I don’t think any US players cared.

I can’t see why anyone would want to use JPn. Mvc2 beta (which most of us never eve knew about… wtf) to defend CFAS beta. UNlike with CFAS, Capcom at least knew they had an audience with MvC2 in the US waiting regardless of how Mvc2 tested in Japan. CFAS didn’t have that luxury.

Now if you want to compare beta tests, you’d have to go back to XSF’s beta tes, or maybe even XCOTA’s beta test to see how those tested compared to their eventual popularity. But only Capcom knows that data, assuming it still exists. And even so, Capcom probably made those games with US audiences in mind anyway, thanks to the Marvel connection. Again, CFAS had no such strong connection that would make an otherwise shitty game do well in another area.

Maybe if it had a much larger and better cast, or if it didn’t look so mediocre, or if it didn’t play like a lousy cross between equally lousy EX and RS games, then maybe it would have had a chance to do well. As it is, the game was dead in the water and was mercifully terminated.

CFJ is, unfortunately, so far just the 2D equivalent to CFAS, but hey, oldass sprites > shitty 3D models any day. By virtue of the fact that it takes gameplay from proven pedigrees, it also has a much MUCH better chance of not playing like unadulterated ass, which is important (indeed, the game’s only real saving grace at this point, barring the induction of another 50 characters into the mix).

re: SF2V

Why was SF2V unpopular in Japan? I’m not surprised, but I thought as a concept it was decent. It just had an unforgivable amount of recycled animation… >:|

I’ll agree with you on the MVC2 Beta thing.

I really don’t know why SF2V wasn’t popular in Japan. Maybe it had a bad time slot and was up against something else. Or maybe it’s just because more people in Japan had access to the official Storyline as opposed to people here. The number of things that are popular here and not popular in Japan really boggles the mind, like the Berserk Anime, the Ninja Scroll Movie, The Big O, among other things. And then, a Series like ā€œWhite Crossā€ becomes a huge success in Japan, and everyone who I know scratches their head when they hear that. Well, the Ninja Scroll Movie wasn’t that unpopular, but here in the States it’s a huge success while in Japan it’s not. So much so that the Ninja Scroll TV Show is really loose with continuity, as in, take it as continuity if you want to so people in Japan can follow it easy without having to watch the Movie. The Ninja Scroll Director even talks about the Movie’s surprise success in the US in the 10th Anniversary Edition DVD. Same Director TAS says may take over SF4. He sure drinks a lot of coffee and smokes a lot during interviews, LOL!

Off Topic - Since some of the people here Post at MMCAFE anyway, the folks at -

  • are having their second Annual get together to play games with people bringing in almost every console/every fighter, so we can attach names to faces, etc. Last year I couldn’t attend due to problems I had with my landlord but I do plan on going this year. The Party will be held in D.C., we don’t have a spot yet. Anyway, at the above link, you can click on Bulletins to check the Threads or you can go here -

It would be a good place for some of us to meet up, if you are planning to be in the East Coast soon or are in the East Coast.

Anyway if you don’t attend I’ll be sure to take Pictures so you can see me getting beat playing Street Fighter!

I think you’re getting confused. 3D models represent the graphics, and do not neccessarily represent the gameplay. Whatever you think, the truth is that polygons are cheaper, and can be more fluid, look better and play faster than sprites.

I guessed that (see my response on the previous page). Thanks for your other reply as well.

But if Okamoto is incorrectly nicknamed in some places as Akiman, then what is his actual onscreen nickname from the game endings? And how about connections between other nicknames and their real full names? For example, CBX, S.Y., Ziggy, Buppo, Yamachan, Mikiman, Nissui, Kurisan or Takechan? (see the Making thread I linked for more.) I’d love to have a complete chart of the 30 names in SF2WW and the deciphered counterparts…

Does Okamoto have a Nickname? In all games I’ve played that he’s been credited with as Executive Producer, they always put down his full name.

He must have. Otherwise, he’s missed off from WW and a few other games:

I know you’ve not been able to work out Bengus or Edayan, but do any of the books have this kind of list for the others?

Any of the other books? Perhaps in Japanese, not in English.

There’s a bunch of pictures there that may be Okamoto and look kind of like him, but your guess is as good as mine.

Did you know…

… that Capcom USA actually called Ryu & Ken’s master/ā€œAkuma’sā€ brother SHENG LONG in the arcade version of Street Fighter The Movie?
Gotta hate em.

I believe that Capcom originally intended for 2V to be the OFFICIAL animated version of the events relayed in the SF storyline.

However, I think the unpopularity of the series caused them to drop those plans. I suspect if we ever get an official version of what happened in the SF storyline it would be in the form of an actual such as the Street Fighter Action RPG that was rumored to be in development at one time.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the SF2V series. Along with the Animated Movie it’s what made me the SF Fanatic that I am and lead me to buy my first SF Game, SF Alpha 1 (before that I’ve borrowed SF2 from people and stuff) but I’m kind of glad Capcom never adopted it as canon weither they intended to or not. I like Capcom’s story a lot better, and stuff like Dhalsim helping to teach the Hadouken and Cammy’s extremely retconned story still bug me. I liked how Saint Dharma (or Bodidharma) played a big part in SF2V though. (He’s on that scroll Ryu carried around.) Many say that he was the founder of all Martial Arts in a way.

Useless but strange fact: Zangief attacks/opposes Shadaloo in order to defend his country (According to his SFA3 in-game storyline). However his bio on the official SFZ3 (Japanese) website says nothing about this. It says that he’s fighting in order to show the strength of professional wrestling to the world (At the request of Gorbachev).

1st 1 , possible … or not

2nd 1 , nope , could be a hostess in the club taking a short break …

Aerialgroove, that’s your website?

I’m working on it but it’s not done yet.

Late post I spose, but from what I can make out, the space alien might be referring to Adam and Test Type EVA from Neon Genesis Evangelion Anime. (Adam is the pure white EVA/Angel that shows up during Second Impact)

Also some of Twelve’s walking movements seems to derive from the natural movements of the Test Type EVA when it eats the core of one of the angels. As well as Twelves ā€˜howl’ finishing pose very much like the Test Type EVA as well.

Add to the fact that there were supposed to be production models built of the EVA’s and they seem to be closely related.

EDIT: Also I remember that one of the Angels in NGE threw one of the EVA’s in the exact same manner that Twelve throws.

EVA seems to inspire alot of games.

I’m more interested in how Necro came about, he seems like a Tim Burton Nightmare before christmas style of cirus performer crossed with a dark version of Pinocchio or something, perhaps effie representing the wooden female doll that dances with pinocchio in the theatre? shrug

Who are Alex and Elena based on?
