Warriors Fate: Street Fighter story thread, revived

re: Shippu no Ken

Thanks Saiki. It was your moves list that I took from MMcafe in the first place, so thanks for confirming that. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think Haggar was playable in the beta. I just wanted to know if any might have gotten their hands on a description.

Say Saiki, since I have your attention, do you perchance have Poison’s moves list as well?

TAS:

Well, Mel not playable character - hell, not even appearing, period - would be fine by me.

As for MOTW… y’know, it’s a great game and all, but do you know who plays it? NOBODY. ST still gets more play than MOTW, even in Japan (of course, that might be because ST is a better game, but that’s another story). If Capcom had gone the route of MOTW, SF3 would have been an even bigger disaster than it already was. I hope they learned that completely dumping all your previous characters except for one or two only worked for SF2 because no one gave a shit about SF1. They’ll know better with SF4, or at least they should. Let’s see some SF1,2,3 and Alpha characters (they don’t have to be in the majority, though I wouldn’t mind) mixing it up with some new characters. A new main character is fine, but don’t neglect our old stalwarts. I don’t think their time in the sun is up yet.

Part of Sf3’s lack of story appeal is that there are so few characters who interact in any way, shape, or form with older characters. And aside from Sean’s mention of Dan, which I’m not even sure is in the Jpn. version, the entire Alpha cast might as well not exist according to SF3.

And while it would certainly be nice, to be quite honest, unless someone with actual good storytelling skills is in charge, I’d prefer Capcom went their usual route of concentrating on the gameplay elements of SF4 first, and filling in the story afterwards.

Yeesh, you know a game is way too detached when people start thinking that it and its prequels are in different continuities from each other (besides people saying Street Fighter Alpha series isn’t canon, I’ve seen many people who thought that SF3 and SF2 were in different canons from each other, for crying out loud).

Problem with most returning characters in SF4 though is that by SF4, most characters will be so… old. Depending on how Capcom sets the dates, SF2 characters will be 10 to 15 years older than they were in SF2, and SFA characters will be 13 to 18 years older (though they’d still be marginally young enough to get grown up Sakura in there, I suppose, although females over the age of 30 in fighting games are pretty rare). Most SF3 characters could return, though, especially considering that SF3 is filled with 16 year olds for some strange reason.

From what I understand, the SF3 series was a huge Arcade hit in Japan, hence SF3 Third Strike appearing in both Arcadia Tournaments. It wasn’t big enough however to get people in Japan to buy Dreamcasts. People held out for PS2 which could play DVDs, and the Japanese are not giving up their RPGs. And as you know, SF3 wasn’t that big outside of Japan. I think they know better because SF3 Third Strike is the greatest Fighting Game ever made.

I’m with TiamatRoar on the whole SF4 issue. I think what udoneko (AKA Erik Ko, editor of the US SF Comic) said needs to be restated here, for if anything this thread will probably outlive the Thread he said this on. Anyway, when he said Udon only had the SF License for 3 years, he was asked maybe Capcom was planning a sequel after that time. Here’s what he said:

“Not sure IF Capcom will be releasing another SF game anytime soon. Last time I talked with them, I know they were not too confident in 2D fighters… but I know the Hyper SF release has proven otherwise.”

Anyway, I can not confirm this 100% just yet, but over at MMCAFE I just read that in a Japanese Magazine Capcom said they will release SF3TS on the PS2. I’m looking forward to that and Sammy vs. Capcom and that is it.

The only move I remember for Poison is his finisher which was called “Handcuff & Binta”. Binta is kinda like the same thing as a bitch slap.

Saiki:

Ah. I see. That’s… rather blah for a finisher. Mike make a good Scorpion rip off move though.

sano:

3S is played in Japan, and is certainly popular, but I don’t know if I’d call it “a huge Arcade hit” necessarily. It’s no monster like a Virtua Fighter or even GGX game. I could be wrong though.

Not to get in an argument, but “3rd Strike” and “greatest fighting game” do not belong in the same sentence.

3S on PS2 sounds nice, but I’m skeptical. The best scenario is that they just translate the DC version (which isn’t identical to the arcade version, BTW), but I have a feeling Capcom will do its usual and tamper with the game further, making the game useless for anyone who wants to practice it for the arcade.

As for Capcom and 2D fighters, that’s okay. It’s not like I’m asking them to revive the genre or anything. I just want to see SF get a grand send off. We need a grand SF that mixes characters from SF1,SF2,Sf3 and Alpha going at it with new characters. No more of this ditching an entire cast save for one or two. That worked for SNK because no one gave a shit about Fatal Fury.

Tiamat:

Age is pretty irrevelent in a videggame, and especially in Street Fighter. Hell, you know the rules: Unless otherwise stated, the older you are is the more powerful you are.

The only character who would need a drastic redesign is Sakura, and that’s okay, because she won’t show up anyway, since we all know Capcom wouldn’t redesign her.

Besides, who says all the characters in an SF4 (or whatever) game need to be part of the story?

Random: Y’know, when I think about it, the only females over 30 to show up in fighting games period, Nina & Anna Williams come to mind. And Namco cheated by flash freezing them.

Oh yeah, Chun Li is over 30 in 3s isn’t she? She’d have to be.

Third Strike being the greatest fighter ever made is just my opinion is all, sorry if I didn’t stress that. Recently a US Magazine listed their choices of the top 5 greatest fighting games of all time. SF3TS was number one there too. Mark of the Wolves was the only SNK game there and Guilty Gear wasn’t there either. Still, if everyone on the planet Earth thinks the Mona Lisa is the greatest painting ever, it’s still an opinion, all though sometimes in Art Books it will say it’s the greatest painting ever, a Teacher will make you memorize that and write it down on a test and it’s still an opinion. Even though the Anamoty on that painting is off even for Leonardo and the Composition is crazy simple, but this is the wrong place for this discussion.

I’m not sure I can necisarrily argue the difference between big and huge, so I may be wrong there too. A hit is a hit, as far as I’m concerned.

Chun-Li was born 3/1/68, so by SF3 Third Strike which takes place in either 1998 or '99, she would be 30 or 31.

Random/off Topic stuff you may or may not know already -

The first 5 Sota Action figures were announced. They will be Ryu, Chun-Li, M.Bison, Sagat and Sodom. Using the same scenario as this one (One male hero and one female hero, two villains and one oddball character) they are letting us fans vote for the figures in Series 2! We can’t vote for the Male Hero since Capcom already told’em to make a Ken Toy, but you can vote in the other categories. Even if you are not interested in Toys, anyone who can should vote because it may help us shed light on who are the more popular Street Fighter Characters since you can’t vote more than once like the SF Fan Poll. I chose Vega, Rose, Balrog and T.Hawk myself. Good luck to all the voters - THERE’S ONLY THREE DAYS LEFT!

It seems like this is the end result of the SF Fan Poll. Capcom actually designed a figure of Chun-Li, and since Chun-Li for SF2 won and not for SF3, this design was based on that. (This is as far as I know, I’m not %100 sure…) Think that it’s just a normal figure? It’s life-size and will run you about six thousand dollars!

I’m so getting that Chun-Li.

Well, maybe I’m not, but I would like to.

And that was all I had to say for now, fading back into obscurity. But if you somehow missed my update on Fighter Mania, check it out…

The making of SF2.

P.S.
Did anybody else see the new South Park? They did a SF parody eps.
Stan was Ryu.
Kyle was Yun.
Kenny was Ken,but with Raiden’s hat.
I think Cartman was like E.Honda.
Jimmy was sodom.
some kid was Adon.
Token was Dee Jay.
and Chef was Akuma.
You guys think because it’s the 15th anniversary, theres going to be a lot of SF parody/Easter eggs this year?

oh fuck i want that clips !!!

Cool Link! They said originally the Token Karate guy was supposed to be called “Sakurada Gashou.” Maybe that’s how they came up with the name Sakura!

It says the game was originally supposed to take place on an island. Interestingly enough, in Masaomi Kanzaki’s SF2 Manga, the Tourney took place on an island named “Shad.” It was kind of like New York, or some kind of Babylonian Island with people form all different Nations living on the Island. They mostly focused on the Asian district where Ryu hung out.

Yeah man. My friend just told me about that South Park episode. Time to set my VCR and catch the rerun!

I remember when South Park made fun of Megaman and Pokemon. Funny show!

yeah i want to watch

Best Episode of South Park ever! I only wished that Sally would of showed up as a fake Chun-Li so Stan/Ryu could smack her with a vomit Hadouken!

Whoah! Methinks the dates on the previous post is kind of wrong…

yep , some glitches … do something …

I tried posting something a few days ago in this thread, and they wouldn’t let me. Then I noticed that my and Sieg’s posts are dated 2 months in advance. I’m not even sure if this will go through. Uhm, little help…?

delete it…that helps
