Ryu doesn’t get killed in Ryu Final, and actually neither does Gouki. Gouki, before he dematerializes, chuckles at Ryu and remarks that they’re both still alive like plants because of their clumsiness. (their blows both miss their vital targets) Nakahira Masahiko san leaves them both with the closest attempt at a stalemate possible; Gouki’s still stronger because he still leaves by himself while Ryu collapses unconscious for I’m sure quite some time. Also Ken together with Oro and Sean all witness the last few moments of the battle before Gouki bids Ryu farewell and finally disappears.
It’s not certain that Ryu was buried at all. (I still need to translate what Ken says to Alex after Mel hands Alex Ryu’s headband, and getting tired, I’ll do this tomorrow.)
Donkus, TAS, vasili10 - Wow, all this time I’ve been thinking Ryu died in Ryu Final. I guess if that stick was used to mark where Ryu and Gouki fought that would explain that. Still, I find it hella hard to believe Ryu would ever in official storyline have the ability to heal a hole in his body, but at least now I know that Ryu does indeed survive in Ryu Final. Like TiamatRoar said a while back, still learning things to this very day, thanks!
As for Sakura beating Kyo, methinks Nakahira just prefers Sakura. In Sakura Ganbaru he had her putting up a better fight against Gen then Chun-Li did and I find that to be hella ludicrous. I think by the end of Sakura Ganbaru, this is Nakahira’s own personal Tier List -
Tier 1 - Sakura
Tier 2 - Everyone else:lol:
Okay, I’m joking, but that’s just how it seems to me. This is one of the main reasons why his SFZ Manga is still my favorite. The winners of the fights in that series are a heck of a lot more believable then his other works, (except for maybe the Cammy Manga, but I’ve always believed Cammy could never touch Balrog unless he lets her win) and not to mention, there’s a lot of great stuff going on between Ryu and Chun-Li. Chun sees him naked, Ryu goes back to normal from his Satsui No Hadou rage before hitting Chun-Li in the face and stuff. Sure, they never hook up (and the best part about Sakura Ganbaru is when Dan call’s Ryu Chun-Li’s boyfriend and she kicks him in the face!) but I kind of like it when relationships, or to be more specific non-relationships are played out this way.
Ok, just finished the translation. Ryu is in fact never buried, and this is approximately what Ken says to Alex after their fight and Mel hands Alex Ryu’s headband:
Ken: It seems you have a misunderstanding about him. (Ryu)
Alex: Me you say…?
Ken: He got wounded and he got tired. He thought he wants to rest… this possession of his (the headband)…go and return it. You persist in saying he is the wind. Wherever he appears, he comes and goes like the wind. Wait for him…and just once you will see the full force of the wind. Answer to him what he desires.
Thanks for the reminders about about Street Fighter Zero and Sakura Ganbaru sano! I had totally forgotten about those subtle but humorous moments. Gotta love Nakahira san!
I really dont think that its “could Ryu survive that hit?” rather than it was just Nakahira trying to do something that looked cool & violent.
And after reading the summary of what happens, it dosnt seem like Ryu is all that great in it, considering he gets the crap kicked out him in like every fight (blood everywhere)
I think the story telling is to just make it seem more intresting, ie in all those fights (excluding the ones with Oro and Akuma) Ryu should of been able to win with ease, and not have gotten all bloody, but it gives the story some suspense that way.
So Ryu wanted people to think he was dead is that the point? Or is it that Ryu just isnt very predictable?
Oh yeah, and how similar is the stick in the rocks with the headband, to that of the Death Of Superman (Superman #75) cover? In which there’s a stick in a pile of rocks, in which Superman’s cape is hanging on it.
TAS: Isn’t very predictable, and more accurately very elusive. Ryu’s always been on the move, and thus other fighters won’t easily find him unless he comes to them, hence Ken tells Alex to wait for him.
Yes, I realize the similarities between Ryu Final and the Death of Superman. The thing is, as well as commemorating the deceased with a grave, if the event is worth its merit, the very spot where they have fallen is also commemorated, and the grave does not have to be necessarily in the same designated spot.
I’m not completely sure of the matter, but wasn’t the stick with Superman’s cape at the spot where Superman finally fell after defeating Doomsday? Yet Superman’s final resting place within his coffin was somewhere else, right? The stick in Ryu Final sort of naturally designates Ryu’s possibly final milestone battle with Gouki, the spot where he somewhat humbled Gouki and somewhat avenged his master Gouken’s death.
Okaaaay. I’m reading 3 or 4 different parts of this thread simultaneously to catch up. But at least I’m up to date on the stuff that was really bothering me the most: All this talk about “SF4”. It’s the same idle speculation that I’ve been hearing for well over a year now. I thought it was something concrete, but it’s the same old bullshit.
Which is kinda good, since I didn’t particularly like what I was hearing. I’d rather Capcom end its own story threads than just copy RYU FINAL.
Also, I have a brief moves list for CFAS that Saiki posted over on MMCafe’s BBS. It says Ryu’s finishing move is called "“Shippu no ken”, which isn’t what TAS called it. So who’s right?
After reading what happens in RYU FINAL I seriously doubt they’ll use its entire story, but rather just parts of it.
And its not like Capcom has never copied anything, they do it all the time acutually, and have almost copied every aspect of the SF2 movie, form Ken giving Ryu the headband to the charging hadouken (and about 20 other things inbetween)
I didnt find out the name until just the other day, but I didnt get it from my sources, I just got it from someone else on another forum, when we were talking about RYU FINAL.
There was a video of the move, but the site that has it went down, but if I/we could see the move we would know if it was the move from RYU FINAL, in the manga its this hard hitting punch that hits with the force of the wind (its elemental, kinda like the Dejin Hadouken, being lightning)
the description of the move from old mmcafe reports described it as a “fireball punch.” ie a punch with a fireball effect to it… comment was that it didn’t look particularly impressive.
Parts of it I can live with, I guess. But putting in an entirely new Ryu, without having the old Ryu in there somewhere at least for the sake of gameplay, = bomb.
I know this is a storyline scurb thread, but as the only “gameplay scrub” here, I’m not ready for Capcom to chuck their entire pre-Sf3 cast just yet. They tried that once, and it backfired. They ought to know better by now. Story be damned. The “SF4 as MOTW clone” was really not sitting well with me.
So is the name of the move “Shippu no Ken” or “Kaze no Ken”? I kinda need it for something.
Also, from the description, it sounds a lot like Ryo’s Tenchi Haoh Ken, but with maybe a bigger effect about the fist.
I’m still going through the thread, but did anyone have a description of some of Haggar’s moves from CFAS? Like what the hell was the Manhatten Special, the Niagara Fall, and the Combination Driver?
…or “kaze no kobushi.” (fist can be either “ken” or “kobushi”)
I checked out the kanji for “shippu”: (again, switch to Japanese (Auto-Select) encoding).
the kanji for wind can be read as “kaze” or “fu.” when it’s placed behind another character, the “fu” sound changes to “pu”
so unless Chuliper missed out a whole character (kanji) at the beginning of the move name, I’m sticking with what he listed. (besides, “kaze no kobushi” ties in better with RYU FINAL than “shippu no ken/kobushi”)
Ultima - regarding Haggar’s moves - you might have better luck asking on mmcafe? quite a congregation of ppl there who actually saw/played the beta. not sure if Haggar was playable, though.
Actually the guy who created MOTW, originaly worked for Capcom, and was part of the pre-production team for SF3, and the original idea/plot for SF3 is that Mel would be the main character, and Ryu would be the only returning character, but Capcom didnt go that direction, so he left Capcom, joined SNK, and retooled his idea with the Fatal Fury characters.
Now obviously Capcom saw the mistake they made with letting that guy go, and while it may seem SF4 is going in the same direction as MOTW, just know its not, ie if SF4 main character will be an all new character, just as SF1, SF2, and SF3’s main characters were, and even though Mel has never been playable, he’s still not a new character, and still too young to be the main char if the game comes out 2007-2008, cause the games always take place around the year they come out (the ones that involve tournaments and have a number right after them) and Mel would be only 13 or 14 around that time.
Although it seems unlikely given Capcom’s past, I think SF4 will defenitly be more story driven, while still looking beautiful, ie they’ll probaly be taking some cues from SNK and Sammy.
