Viscant won Evo and new game is coming out so the question is

just goes to show the lack of quality competition in marvel at this year’s evo imo.

of course nerves and big tournament setting play a factor in how well u play, but watching 4 of noah’s matches, he wasn’t that good at all. i mean he’s great for an 8 year old, but… be real

u make it sound like he had to play that many people to get to the top 48, when in fact, he probably stomped on 7 or so scrubs in some nice brackets before having to deal with teh big boys within the top 100. he did clutch out a great win against that one modok player but lol, clearly his team is very low risk - high reward - minimal input - maximum damage.

That cannot be denied. Sure it is easy to beat, but if you refine that team and put it in the hands of a more capable player, hell who knows? we might’ve seen a hulk/sentine/wesker in the top 8…

you forgot option 4. I’m a salty 12 year old retard who has no appreciation for the fact that a character doesn’t win tournaments, a player does.

Remember the vanilla Sagat Tier days (or were you still in pre-school)??? And how many Sagats won Evo??? Oh yeah…

they were pro’s in the finals, and if they can’t handle Phoenix (which many of them did), they wouldn’t have even made it to finals.

Love the original post. Lolz @ everyone calling him salty.

I don’t play Marvel, but from what I know about the game, it seems like pretty good advice and generally great anti-scrub mentality rhetoric. Please write something similar about Yun and Fei whining. Seriously, if you think a character is S-tier in a game, PLAY that character if you care that much about winning. Or play your favorite character and accept that you might lose to the S-tier more often than you’d like.

Viscant “played his cards” perfectly, not just at EVO but from the beginning of Marvel 3. I didn’t know a ton about him until recently (mostly a couple of rather interesting anecdotes about his tournament day attire hahaha), but having seen him on WNF a couple of times and listened to the Wake Up SRK with him on it, he seems like a very smart and genuine dude. I didn’t realize that, in his own words, he hadn’t been truly competitive to win a big tournament in quite a few years. And despite getting EVO moment-ed in set one, game five, the poise he showed to come back from that hopefully made the win that much sweeter for him.

Just for the few people that didn’t understand the post was basically a nod to Viscant’s old man style play to win and how he was generally thinking about playing to win better than anybody else that was playing the game. The post was designed as respect to his style of play and general thinking about the game and his play at tournaments. He played totally out of some old man David Sirloin Play to Win shit and in a game like this you gotta play that way or be sad in the end. He played a team that made people sad but he always seemed happy. Why? Because HE WON.

The idea was of course that I disguised it in the beginning as something that would make new people get mad because if you don’t read it all it looks like I’m trying to make him out to be a bad guy. Which making him out to be a bad guy is also part of what I was trying to do because you can’t win consistently in a game like this without making somebody mad. You gotta have that stuff that keeps the fight out of the opponent because like the old games you generally can’t survive giving the opponent time to let them bring the fight to you.

What Viscant made me realize is that the reason I play fighting games is simply to have fun…not so much to WIN. Yet what I also found the most fun in any fighting game I played was grinding hard to beat the cheap shit. I I always used lower tiered or underrated characters because they generally more so fit my play style and I have to play characters where my hands are moving all the time. You can make a cheap team without making the cheapest team but in general your highest success of winning in a game like this is to make the cheapest team. It’s just looking at how he won has me thinking more about how I play the team I use and optimizing it to make it cheaper and more restricting for the opponent by coming up with new ways to limit the opponent’s options and bring the cheapest out of my characters. If that doesn’t work then I’ll move to cheaper characters but I feel putting Dante on my team with a good assist and one other character I like has me in a good spot towards being as cheap as I should be for now. We’ll see.

If you’re not going to base your team and strategies on winning as consistently as possible and covering all bases…at least do what you can to complete your point characters and not have teams that just work around one point with no good assists backing that point. That’s overall what Viscant was trying to do. Cover his points and have strategies in general that go back and forth throughout the whole team even as he loses characters.

We all know Tron level 3’ing Phoenix for the win was the actual win of Evo.

LOL

LOL

What with hulk having shitty mobility and everyone of his moves being unsafe as shit, the kid took advantage of the fact that people didn’t do any anti character work on the less used characters.

no, i assume that the other 1500 players ARENT 8 FUCKING YEARS OLD.

if noahs play were being done by someone say 15 and above id ridicule it as well… but hes 8 years old and placed higher than 90% of the people in the tournament. a his age he shows a remarkable realization of where his strengths and weknesses lie and a team that will cater to those strengths and weaknesses… kinda like viscant of all people. if you or anyone else has an 8 year old relative that can play that way with any team then yeah i implore you guys to bring there little asses out to meet the bigboys.

also if you actually watched noah you’d realize that even though many of his opponents were inferior… he was actually a really smart kid. he even showed lots of promise when getting beat up by chris g who is one of the best players in the world.

your hating on a little kid… your life must really suck to be able to come on a public forum and NOT be embarrased about that… like seriously what kind of treatment do you get in the real world??? people throwing piles of poo at you or what???
lol

good post deviljin.

lol at all the people not being able to comprehend deviljin’s post. Viscant was winning already at the character select screen. Them old school cheap team strats. he put a lot of thought into that team and if you couldn’t see his great play aside from phoenix, you’re blind.

and noah’s wins were more showing how stupid the game is than anything. in any other game, when your opponent isn’t on your thinking level (this is talking about the players who weren’t ass who he beat) they may just press buttons when a good player normally would block and the better player might’ve just made a mistake. but could learn make up for it later in that round.

but that doesn’t happen in random ass mvc3. in mvc3, your 1 mistake of overestimating your opponent leads to a dead character or 2 and pretty much game over…and you lose 1 out of 2 already (no rounds…). this game needs to be 3/5 for tourneys but it will still see some randomness.

The funny thing about Noah winning is that his team outside of Wesker in the back is completely based on characters that you can beat by blocking. He won because people dont want to block. The same reason why Sentinel was winning in February. People didn’t want to block and they hated not being able to run mix ups left and right like a hero. Why can Chris G beat Noah but Randomguy1234 can’t? Cuz Chris G decided to BLOCK.

There’s no excuse to lose to an 8 year old who did zero mix ups with characters that already struggle for mix ups without assists. This is on top of the fact that he never called assists ever and always up tagged. Step your game up next year.

The fight starts at the character select screen.

Hulk is good, A good Hulk will Zone back with gamma waves and then Magneto says, I don’t want to trade projectiles with Hulk, imma rush that big ass mfer down, pre-emptive H, Magnus face-planted on the floor ready to get launched, H H S gamma charge qcf+1+2 gg

So did you guys pass the 1st grade?

You guys didn’t read. Go back to the first post and read EVERYTHING before you call DJ salty. He wasn’t being salty at all. He was merely telling us how Viscant won and he COMPLIMENTED his team.

You guys clearly haven’t been playing Mahvel (maybe even fighting games) for a long time. Cheap = Good. If you do some cheap shit and it works, you are good. If you mash shoryukens all day in SSF4 and it works, you are better than your opponent by far. If you keepaway until your opponent comes in and then BAM, Haggar comes to save the day and you get a free OTG into a combo (pretty much what Viscant did), then you are better than your opponent. So when somebody messages me “cheap”, I say thank you lol.

Old as in experience. Yeah he is only a year older than Wong but he has been playing since forever. He knows how to make a team in MVC. He played Doom/Storm/Sent in MVC2, which is absolutely godlike to me. Almost perfect team composition (because of DHC compatiblity. Hit him and they are probably dead).

So anyway, you assholes that I quoted, Imma need yall to read EVERYTHING he said before you call DJ salty.

Devil Jin on fucking point throughout this entire thread…all those people who lost to an 8 year old at Evo should fucking hang it up.

For 2999 people it was Evo, for Viscant, it was Tuesday.

I still say that Hulk is my favorite character to play online when I’m drunk. Hulk smashes twice as hard in latency, 'nawmean?

People getting upset about Noah need to grow a heart and then get a clue.

Deadpool blowing himself up (literally) against Mike Ross was pretty amazing too

or just stop playing this silly excuse for a fighting game. blocking was definitely a factor for the randoms he beat. but the game being random and 1 random hit = pretty much the loss of the game is more of a factor. you’ll only see that in mvc3, no other game. any other game you’ll get the rest of the round to adjust or makeup (since you don’t lose major tools [characters]) or at the least the next round and then the rest of the set.

2/3 needs to be at least 3/5 for this game.

Really.

It always seemed like they weren’t giving him enough respect and would end up eating s.:h: :s:

when he posted this thread half of he wrote which is there now wasn’t there i should have quoted it.

it was just this
p.s how bout u shut the f**k up and know what ur talking about it no longer shows when you edit your post since the new update

Here’s why Viscant won Evo…

  1. He’s cheap
  2. He’s old
  3. He’s cheap and old

(I was going to list other things but they basically revolve around being cheap or old)

Now this may seem like a bunch of trolling based on the fact that he’s old enough to be some of you guys’ father and he picks cheap concept characters like Phoenix and characters that spam a gun all day like Wesker, but not quite. The wording I use is more in context of gaming itself than how he is as a person.

Being cheap basically revolves around not caring what tier your point characters/assists are and generally not giving a shit about the cheesy things your character can do. You got some character with 1.1 million health and can spam a gun faster than most projectiles ive seen in fighting games cuz that shit is good. You got an assist that comes out even if you get hit as long as you called him first and he’s invincible for 60 frames on both sides cuz that shit is good. You got a character that basically comes back for free if you hold on to your XF and get 5 meters cuz that shit is good. You’re not limited by what you think is too good or too cheesy.

Being old generally revolves around having the mentality of playing to win. You don’t play to make other people happy, you don’t play to make random stream monsters go “oh man that shit u did with Thor was cool dude”. You play to make people throw their stick on the ground at Evo when they finally get in on Wesker and then Haggar says “NO ZERKER SLASHES IN MY CITY!!!”

Viscant built his team from the ground up to be as cheap and old as possible and deal with every possible scenario you could throw at him in some cheap way. Not to mention extra insurance if things go bad. When you think about it it’s more like “how was he not going to get the money at Evo?”

When you look at the game in an overall sense it’s just…old and cheap. Combos that either do a lot of damage to one of your characters or just flat out kill them, assists that come out even when you hit the person as long as they called it first, c.L’s that anti air, a comeback mechanic that basically doesn’t do anything but make your team really fucking cheap instead of just cheap, sword based characters with invincible normals, supers that start up 2 frames after a flash that reach the entire fucking screen across and lock your button inputs (ST style OLD MAN SUPERS), old man game style left right cross ups that you get just for being in a certain position against your opponent, block strings that last forever that are only beaten by advance guard and if you time that at the wrong time you throw out a normal and die, throws with one frame start up and a 7 frame tech window before they animate and you have to throw out a hard normal to tech them which sets up cheap mix ups, old man chip damage especially in XF, I could go on and on and on.

so because the game isnt like any other fighting game its bad is your logic? have fun with that
