If the triple A market were to die and and cause another crash then the Indies would probably reset everything. There’s enough solid indie devs putting out quality content that I’m pretty confident in saying that. Its pretty much why the big 3 were fighting over them and are still catering to them now because they know they are potentially the future. Some of them (pretty sure Ninty has said this a couple of times) have even come out and said as such.
For sure. The Wii U had a surprising amount of awesome Indy titles but no one played them cause you know, it was the Wii U.
Them opening their arms to anything in everything with the Switch is kind of a double edge sword though. They have over 1,500 games on the eShop right but no real to sift through all the bullshit besides Directs, various social media platforms like Twitter, YouTube and Reddit and the Indy studio being like “our shits gunna be on switch! Plz buy!”
Their eShop search engine is garbage. Their eShop also lacks a rating system* which is also absolutely ridiculous and makes sifting through all the bullshit even harder.
For every step forward Nintendo makes they take huge leaps back.
*The Switch had an eShop rating system when it first launched but it was removed because Nintendo didn’t want “negative and disparaging remarks” in their eShop.
hahaha there’s no way the console side of the industry goes away. The average gamer, which is the majority… would rather just by the usual “Box” that plays everything labeled for it instead of the usual PC “fixing and figuring shit out” experience that PC fanboys seem to love so much for some bizarre OCD reason. As long as most gamers prefer the console experience, the demand is there so they aren’t going to stop making them.
I have another run going on in Dead Cells that is SO good right now… got colorless magic missiles AND colorless S-rank Hokuto’s Bow!! I have “Mushroom Boi” too as one of my side items; this is another one of the best items from the new DLC. Mushroom Boi is a little companion that always runs up to bump enemies for damage, interrupting their attacks and knocking them back (bonus damage if they are knocked into a wall); it makes a lot of encounters surprisingly easy…it looks like Mushroom Boi will be my new “little buddy” for a while here. M.Boi also makes for easy kills since his rushing move also bumps enemies off ledges to their doom.
Celeste and Disco Elysium out here winning game awards. Wizards of Legend is amazing too.
Indie games have overshadowed a large portion of AAA games when it comes to quality and content. If that type of budget dies off(which it won’t), the indie market has yet to displease lately.
Let’s ignore the games for a second.
Think Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo all still make consoles after the PS5, Switch and what ever the Xbox is called afterwards?
…Why would I ignore the software? That’s the entire reason to buy…
And yes Sony will most likely make a console after the PS5, and I guarantee Nintendo will make a console after the Switch. Hardware and Software is their entire toy business.
That’s not what I am talking about.
I mean just looking as the consoles as we know them, is there going to be a new console gen 5 or ten years from now?
It’s clear to me what there doing. They shifting focus from hardware to selling an ecosystem. They see how doing such things have made Apple, Samsung and Amazon massive bank.
There won’t be a gaming crash but I think there will be a gaming crisis of sorts. Like a AAA dev bubble burst
What happened to Ubisoft last year will likely happen to other major devs too like EA, Konami, Activision and others sooner than later.
Ubisofts annual earnings report of 2019 showed that people are getting tired of the annual titles like Ass Creed. CoD, FIFA, Madden and NBA2k are also getting a lot of shit for basically releasing the same game over and over with a new coat of paint.
dev’s are going to have to get more creative and make better titles and make those titles appealing. They can’t constantly rest on their laurels.
That said, I think a company like Capcom is slightly different. They for soooo much shit for not treating their IP’s how fans wanted or just flat out ignoring them.
However, from Strider 2014 to now they’ve been slowly crawling out of the grave they made themselves. DMC5 was universally praised, MM11 got rave reviews, Monster Hunter World is their best selling game of all time, for better or for worse they’re constantly supporting SFV, RE7 and The REmakes were net with universal praise too.
It’s what people want to see from them. It’s the IP’s we love but with fun, new and creative ways to play them.
You don’t get that with any of the annuals really.
