I actually like the S, but the black and white buttons are in a really stupid spot. Dunno who thought that was a good idea.
Enemies can feel more spongey depending on your weapon choice and stance. You can cancel most swings with dodging so itâs all about laying down DPS while carefully maneuvering around the opponent. Enemies have a stamina bar just like you, so a lot of strategies revolve around breaking their stamina so you can go in for a âbackstabâ, dealing lots of damage. Some attacks are specifically meant to do more ki damage than HP, and vice versa.
Ki Pulsing is a way to get back stamina lost, instead of waiting for it to fill all the way back up like you would with any other game. As you play more you start to find a rhythm with your weapons and stances. I should also mention that thereâs an incredibly essential skill that allows you to Ki Pulse with your dodge. Itâs in the Samurai tree.
Burst Counters are high risk, high reward. Theyâre just hard man. You gotta learn not only the specific red attacks with each enemy, but learn the different timing that comes with each of the 3 Demon Forms. Some enemies even have more than one red attack. The reward is Anima being restored, while pushing the enemy back and forcing them into a vulnerable position for at least a few seconds. As you play, you can get abilities that give you health back with Burst Counters, or temporarily increase your speed, ect.
Every fight in Nioh is a threat. There arenât really any trash mobs that go down in 1 hit every time like Dark Souls. Every encounter feels like one you could lose at any moment if you donât pay close attention, and thatâs the nail-biting intensity that people appreciate the game for. Leveling up will honestly not have too much of an effect on your overall power. Most high damage stuff is gonna be the result of set bonuses, Guardian Spirit passives, spell buffs, and equipment abilities. Ect. Youâre going to constantly be changing around equipment to optimize as well, sort of in a Diablo fashion, which is also kind of part of the appeal as the game has many systems and mechanics it asks of the player to learn.
Itâs definitely a shift from Souls games, for sure. I had a hard time getting into the first game for a little bit as well, but itâs a deeply satisfying and complex game once you get into the flow.
I mean forreal man, even where you hit a normal ass enemy matters. Different enemies will have different weak spots on their hurtbox, which can make different stances useful for hitting enemies in a specific spot.
Sorry for the triple post, but I think a useful tip is to try fighting on low stance with your preferred weapon for awhile. Dodging not only uses up less ki, but the iFrames are way more lenient. Youâll do less damage, but itâll at least allow for more room to maneuver around enemies as you learn their attacks and patterns.
One of the nice things about Nioh (in a way) is that you can see a lot of enemies in any level throughout the game, which gives you a lot of time to learn their movesets.
Once youâre a little more comfortable, I would probably start using medium stance more often and consider it the âdefaultâ.
Please dear god yes.
Wow whoever posted the Blasphemous for $14.99 for Switch earlier ⌠I just played the demo and am sold like shit. Anyone know if the progress in the demo transfers over to the game? I played it for like 45 minutes lol.
EDIT:
I guess it doesnât really matter because I just bought it anyways. The game has a very âDead Cellsâ vibe going on to it with the graphics, controls, sound, presentation, etc.
Dual Shock is a fucking 90âs Playstation controller with analogs tacked on as an after thought so we could play Ape Escape and a couple of games. The left analog stick is not even in the primary position. It is completely mind boggling to me that 4 generations later they still have the same shitty design.
No such thing as a perfect controller. To be honest, every controller (well, âdefaultâ controller at least) has something thatâs completely shit about it for no other reason than to make it âuniqueâ. We really should be at the point where all controllers are standardized because no one is choosing a console based on a fucking controller yet here we are.
My favorite controller is the SNES controller.
And a close second is the Wii U Gamepad.
*Hides
What? Primary position? The Fuck?!
What is this shit Microsoft propaganda you speak of?
Its Microsoft and Nintendo that has the left analog in the wrong place, I feel like my thumb going to break using a Microshit game pad.
Also wrong, as there a game pad before this made by Sony that had the Analogs before,
the Sony Dual Analog Controller (which had analogs but no rubble) and the Dual Analog joystick.
There a clear development of two other controllers that lead to the development Dual Shock.
Also Ape escape came out in 1999, the Sony Dual Analog came out in April 1997 and the Dual Shock came out November that same year.
I have refused to buy consoles than had shit controllers with no alternatives on the market.
Trials of Mana demo is now live

THANK YOU!!!
Finally, someone who gets it!
Those fugly asymmetrical pieces of junk can go straight to hell!!!
sigh And who said the console wars were deadâŚ
I agree.
I actually find the split layout of the Microsoft Analog sticks to be counter intuitive, and uncomfortable.
There so many games I find unplayable in that split analog layout.
I find that console games such as FPS titles use mostly the analogs as well as the shoulder buttons, with the 4 face buttons and d-pad for occasional use.
Games that focus more on the D-pad uses the 4 face buttons more, like if you were using a SNES pad.
Iâm perfectly fine with both.
I love the DualShock line of controllers. The only one Iâve ever had issues with is the DS4 and itâs 100% because of the back triggers. Theyâre way too fucking sensitive
The worst controllers Iâve personally used are
- The Duke
- N64
- Wii Mote + Wii Nunchunk (The only games I really liked playing with the Mote+Chuck were Wii Sports and the Mario Galaxy Games)
- Dreamcast (Iâll likely get a lot of flack for this but I hated how fucking bulky it was)
My favorite controllers are probably the DS2, the 360, Sega 6-Button and the Switch Pro Controller.
The Switchâs Pro Controller is probably my favorite Right now cause it has that perfect stick and button mapping width and weight to it so where my left hand (which has nerve damage in it) doesnât get uncomfortable/get cramped/hurts for a looooong time.
Itâs why my switch is my go-to console ATM. I can actually play for extended periods of time instead of a few hours before my left hand starts to go out.
Nonsense.
You sound like someone who couldnât play GGAC on the wiimote.
Edit: Real talk, I actually liked the Wiimote+Nunchuck to play shooting games. (Got tricked into getting Goldeneye Reloaded.)
Nioh 2 changes when you unlock the black Smith
This with how the cord was coming from the front and not the back is why I didnât like the dreamcast controller.
