Video Game General 7.0: Day Juan Ys: MoC June 9th & Wonderful 101 June 30th!

Finally you say something that’s true.

If I’m comparing the bosses of BotW to the series as a whole…they are a bit lacking in originality and artistic design. They’re all just a different ‘aspect’ or piece of Ganon in the game so they come off as meh. Despite Twilight Princess’ bosses being easy you still had to figure out what to do in order to beat them and they all varied. All 4 the main dungeon bosses were pretty much stun me or aim for the eye and stomp em in the nuts. Nabooris’ boss was probably the best out of them since you had to contend with its speed but personally I think the best bosses BotW had to offer were Master Kohga and the DLC boss for the DLC Dungeon. The DLC Boss was FUN. I’d even say some of the mid bosses that you encounter throughout the open world were probably a bit more fun in some aspects…especially the Fire and Ice Talus and the Lynels.

The only rhythm game that was hype was the DS one where you were cheering for people.

The japanese one though.

Elite Beat Agents?

Osu, Tatakae, Ouendan is the Japanese one. Or just Ouendan.

Shame NA only got one of those games but I guess it didn’t sell that well. Reminds me I need to buy the 3DS Rhythm Heaven game before I can’t anymore.

What Gasaraki said.

Also there was a cool one for PSP with a guitar playing kid. Not my thing but still cool.

Well, NA just got it’s own version since it had totally different songs, story, characters, etc. It’s not even a localization so much as a new game. So really there’s 3, and we got 1 and they got 2

Yeah I couldn’t remember what the Japanese name for the series was.

Gitaroo Man think it was.

That’s a PS2 game. I think the PSP was just a port.

I tried playing that game cause I do like rythym games but it broke my mind for some reason.

Patapon was a lot of fun too for a hybrid type

i play alot of turn based jrpg’s so something just being boring to look at is just the worst to me. i need some cool animations, monster and character designs. also i generally prefer solid level design over open world type games. i need the volcano place, ice place, grassland, and the place made out of candy or some shit to keep me entertained. if your whole game is in a desert or wasteland that’s more than likely a pass from me.

Bust A Groove was dope. I played way too much DDR back in the day. Parappa the Rappa and Um Jammer Lammy were fun, but the mechanics were fucked.

I played a ton of Bust a Groove as a kid. Somehow my uncle had a burned copy of the JP version that me and my cousin played. It wasn’t even out in the US yet lol.

I was very bad at it.

I loved the whole Bemani era of games. DDR, Guitar Freaks, Beat Mania, Drum Mania, shit even Para Para.

I’m mostly agreeing with you and I’m not exactly mega hype for GoT cause I don’t expect the combat to really have much depth at all, but I do think the nature landscapes look really fucking good in it, and I’m sure it’ll at least be fun to play so I’ll probably get it. I’m probably skipping TLoU2 so I can afford it.

My last favorite open world game was Gravity Rush 2 lol

Saying rhythm games are ass, can only come from someone who hasn’t shaken maracas to the After Burner and Burning Ranger themes…and gotten perfect scores while doing them.

Samba De Amigo forever GOAT.

Ouendan is fucking awesome. Still have my copy. Yakuza Karaoke and Haruka’s section in Yakuza 5 are beast as fuck. The dance battles are awesome.

Sega’s needs to make another Samba De Amigo so they can add Lonliness Loop to the mix.

…Man that’s cheating lol.

On the subject of botw bosses, I also would say they are pretty ho hum. My favorite ones are Thunderblight Ganon and Ganon. Thunderblight because he’s fast and I have to pay attention and time shit. That’s fun. Ganon because he has opportunities to use all the tablet abilties. Really does feel like a “final test” before the victory lap.

The other two are good but not very memorable or neat. They work. It’s not that hard for the bosses to be hard because everything hits super hard in botw so naturally so will the bosses. At that point they need to be super memorable and interesting and cool and they just kind of arent. Even their designs are kinda whatever with Canon’s being the best of the set.

Skyward Sword has Ghirahim(however the fuck you spell it it), the pirate skeleton boss, koloktos, moldarak, and Demise. You fight Ghirahim 3 times and he’s got that kinda Vergil/Rival vibe where he brings new tricks to each fight.

Even Majoras Masks bosses are cooler and more memorable. Ghote is an awesome boss fight.

I love BOTW to death and my only real asks for the sequel are better bosses and more Hyrule Castle like locations for dungeons. Shit was hype as hell and really felt like I was sneaking through Ganons domain and taking it back. More of that please. A more “Preseant” narrative would be good to. I’d like to care about and get to know the Hylians around me to. More side quests with meat to them like Tarry Town. Look at Witcher III for inspuration.

That’s it. I’m good otherwise. I want Zelda to stay on this open concept for a while. As much as I like those old games and can still go back to them, I’m so done with the “collect 3 things from 3 dungeons, oh plot twist!, now go collect 8 more things” formula.

Haven’t watched Ghost yet. People calling it GoT already got me reading Game of Thrones at a glance. Gonna be like the Gears/God of War situation again.

And yea I don’t care about rhythms games at all. It was the only part of FF7R I was completely meh about from a gameplay standpoint. I’d have been just peachy with a nice cutscene.
