…I was thinking about it again just now— that Baulder’s Gate 3 gameplay reveal, man… it ranks up there as one of the greatest gaming disappointments I’ve ever seen. Sometimes I wonder just how many fans they instantly lost when live on the stream that guy said “so…the combat is…turn-based…”. Really, it was a guaranteed day 1 purchase for me easily… UNTIL that exact moment where it all went to shit. It was pretty funny to watch the reactions of people that were in the live-chat at the time----e.g.-- “LOL fuck this, I’m out…” “turn based…really?! Why?” At least the situation provided me some laughs to go with that disappointment.
So yeah…for me it’s up there. Biggest disappointments of the past year or so…
Diablo 4 revealed to be online-only on all platforms.
Borderlands 3
“honorable” mention to Soul Calibur 6’s insanely annoying creation mode; the first time I’ve ever seen a customization mode that has to load EACH time you just cycle through the various items and styles for anything. (and of course…no mention of Fallout 76 since I never had any hopes for that game in the first place, therefore it wasn’t a disappointment… that game looked like pure trash from the first moment they showed it at E3. It had no chance.)
Uninstalled it immediately after completing the story. At least its size was only 18 gigs so didn’t take much time to download initially. Legit something you can beat in one evening unless you’re a perfectionist who wants to S Rank or 100% every game you buy
Still haven’t played it yet since DLing it for free and I’m kinda not that pressed to do so…
LOVE THAT MUSIC THO!
Really a shame that that game fell on its face. Been hearing rumors hear and there about what Sega was originally going to announce and the only thing I want is Mania 2. I am fiending HORD for Mania 2 right now.
It’s old news, and I’ve brought it up before, but it’s still hilarious how slow the PS4 is. I remember the Wii U hate boners were in effect everywhere on the net, and this place was no different. The posts saying the PS4 OS was faster than U’s OS was a complete farce. The shop takes forever to open if it all.
I’m waiting for the Judgment menu to open up where it goes to ‘Trending’ ‘Community’ ‘Plasystatin Store’ and it’s taken almost two minutes for it to even have those options listed. It finally did as I’m typing this sentence but it’ll most likely be another two minutes, at least, when I click on the PS Store to see what kind of DLC this game has.
I didn’t need to install the game (or buy it) to know it was a trainwreck.
The trailers told me all I needed to know. Sonic Forces is the same Mess sonic been since Sonic Blast.
Edit: Not disagreeing with Radiant or HD Man, disagreeing with Saitsu and Darksakul
Gonna disagree with the both of you. 3D Sonic can work but the problem with it is that the fandom has different ideas of how it can work and some of them through their own experiments have even gotten the 2D physics down to work properly in a 3D space with amazing results but can’t world build with goals for anything. Then there’s the different aspects of the 3D that the fandom fights over whether it’s Boost gameplay or Adventure style gameplay and each time Sonic Team gets close to something that people like with 3D they always end up either throwing a twist in with it or instead of retooling what was good and doing it better they go in a different direction. Half of Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generation prove that it can work.
Edit: One of the rumors about some of Sega’s announcements involve possible 3D collections/remasters getting released so what I’m hoping for is Sonic Colors getting remastered on Switch and/or all consoles…doesn’t matter either way to me. I’d like for more people to have access to that game.
Sonic Adventure had the right amount of mix of ‘adventuring’ and ‘going fast’ right out the gate. They just had to expand on that with bigger and better for sequels, but decided to with ‘going fast’. I enjoyed the friends as well, but Sonic’s levels were awesome.
I enjoyed the way to control Sonic in Lost Worlds. I still need to beat it, but thought the game was pretty cool from what I played.
I’ll never understand the Wisps though. Outside of selling merchandise, I don’t see why they need to be there. The additions they bring could be added to Sonic’s moveset to make Sonic more fun to play.
3D Sonic can work, but I yet to see it. 3D worked with Mario more than Sonic, as Nintendo allowed Mario to be at it’s core Mario, they didn’t try to reinvent him. Sega ether uses Classic Sonic as a Clutch or some Gimmick, without letting Sonic be it self. But keep in mind I was not a fan of Mario 64 or ether Mario Galaxy game. But at least they felt and look like Mario games.
They almost had the formula locked down with Generations, Almost.
Sega used Classic Sonic as a Crutch, and never really develop what is good about the Modern Sonic.
Sonic Heroes used that stupid auto lock feature attack too much that made game play boring.
What I hated about colors was the added Gimmicks.
After Sonic and Knuckles, the good Sonic games in my mind other than Sonic R was the Still 2D games, The Sonic Advance series was a good marriage of what worked for sonic in the past with it’s modern stylings. But Sonic Advance is just more 2D Sonic, its a reskinned Genesis Era game play.
Adventure for me was HOT FUCKING GARBAGE, yeah it was a Pretty Tech Demo for the Dreamcast but that is it. Sure it looked Pretty for it’s time, but it’s all Flash and no Substance. It what convinced me to pass on the Dreamcast and wait on the PS2. Also Adventure changed up the visual style too much, there little that was recognizable from the previous entries in the series.
Adventure 1 was fine. Adventure 2 was considerably worse. For anything they improved on (Knuckles radar), they made 5 other things worse (level design, other character mechanics, etc)
I liked Adventure 1. It’s been a long time but I played through it a few times. I had all the S Ranks for Sonic and Shadow in SA2. I liked that one kinda. Fell off after that till Unleashed/Colors/Generations.
