I was never personally attached to FF7, so I don’t care where it goes. I stomached kingdom hearts up until 3. I can stick it out with the remake and jump ship if it goes hella left field.

There’s nothing about the story that needed to be changed. The problem has been all the games afterwards. Even Advent Children had a dumb ass story.
So instead if just sticking on script, they’re gonna add shit nobody wantes, asked for or needed.
That’d be like updating A New Hope but Han shoots first…oh.
I don’t mind them changing up the story. My problem with the game is it being a hand holding sim. Can’t go down there, don’t try to climb that ladder, oh cloud this way. Square please retcon this combat into ff15.

I’ll guess i’ll leave it here… but i’m saying it’s revealing to be a reboot. The game in itself is a remake however the ending was all about retconning.
For example, the last fight in where flashes from Advent Children, the post credit scene of FF7, etc… After that is done Red XIII says: “this is what is going to happen if we fail here today”. In other words, if they lost they will be going through all the events in those flashes will happen. This is a retcon.
It’s like the story is now similar to the final season of Supernatural, in where “it’s team free will” fighting against the book.

I mean, they definitely added much better character writing for one thing. If the remakes continue to do a much better job of that and actually draw emotions out of me then I’m all for it. Whether Aerith dies or not doesn’t change the capacity for them to have good character writing.
Edit: Like, sure, if all of the new stuff falls flat then it’s a failure. But if it doesn’t I don’t see why it would be a problem

Man, i loved the game to death but the ending is like “we are retconning this” and those whisperers are like us making sure that this game remains a remake.
In other words, we are sort of fighting ourselves. We “the whispers” are fighting them in game so that they follow the original but at the same time, we are controlling them so that they don’t lose to us. lol
The flashes of the last scene had Aerith’s death, and as Red said if they lost to this final boss then all that is going to happen. That’s bullshit

The remake isn’t just adaptating FFVII, it’s basically giving the heroes a chance to change what happened. The shadows things you see in the trailers are trying to make the original story happen, but by defeating them the story changes adding timelines or something close to that. I was more than fine with a simple remake but what they’re doing might end up good, as I said it’s way to early to throw tomatoes even if it’s tempting because FFVII didn’t need that imo.
I thought the original story was overrated, but I’m just not liking the whole idea of this all being retcon after all.

I don’t know if Jesse’s is still dead. I think the whole “bringing back to life” sucks because that was a good chapter with such powerful scenes and for it to just get cheesed on by them resurrecting is corny.
